Clearly, she was going to meet Hadley and Ines, but although that was her decision, she certainly wouldn't say it out loud.
"Oh, by the way, boss, you'd never guess what we did before this." W said, taking out a compass-like object from his mouth strap and tossing it in his hand.
"This is..." Bai Ye sensed a strange aura from the compass. At the same time, his right arm and chest vibrated.
The last time I had this feeling was when I met Nian and Xi. Those two were fragments of the Sui Beast, which could be considered a kind of giant beast.
That is to say...
"A giant beast?" Bai Ye frowned.
“That’s right, it’s part of a giant beast.” Hedley nodded.
"In the past, the young Blood Demon Lord, with the help of his people, severely injured the sleepwalking and defenseless giant beast Ersula, peeled off its flesh and dismembered it into several pieces, sealing them in different locations. At the same time, he also transformed Ersula's skeleton into an airship called the 'Spine of Life'."
Bai Ye spoke:
“I know, those are the ‘cargo ships’ they use to transport supplies, Theresis told me.”
“Yes…and this compass is the controller for that thing.” W snapped his fingers.
“Well done. I have a feeling this thing is also part of the ritual... It’s best to keep this thing as far away from Lontinim as possible right now. I don’t want any unnecessary complications,” Bai Ye said slowly.
"A ceremony?" Hedley frowned upon hearing this.
Bai Ye pointed to the ground:
"You've been an undercover agent for Theresis for so long, and you still haven't figured out what this regent is trying to do? He's turned the entire Londinium into a giant witchcraft ritual circle, an incredibly ancient and terrifying ritual that, once activated, could bring utter destruction to the entire Terra."
“Fuck! I knew he was up to no good…” W said viciously, even reaching out to kick Therese’s corpse, but Ines stopped him with her shadow.
“I see… This is the truth they were hiding. All the pieces have connected, and now I understand.” Hedley exclaimed in realization. “The Shard Tower, his possession of that superweapon probably wasn’t just to intimidate the nations of Terra, was it?”
Bai Ye nodded:
“That’s part of the ritual. The storm isn’t just a weapon; it has other uses for the Sarkaz.”
"Fortunately, I triggered the natural disaster, which coincidentally destroyed the ritual site... Otherwise, I would have almost been fooled by the Fragment Building as well." Bai Ye admitted his mistake.
Natural disasters are absolutely crucial.
Ines, W, and Hadley exchanged bewildered glances. Ines's eyes widened.
"So, you didn't originally release the natural disaster to destroy the ritual site?"
"Uh... initially, was it to weaken the Sarkaz's defenses and, incidentally, divert their attention?" Bai Ye scratched his head.
"The calamity you summoned almost crushed us to death!" Ines said angrily. "I thought everything was part of your plan, but I never expected... it would turn out like this."
"Well, anyway, the final result was good... I guess?" Bai Ye felt a little guilty.
He couldn't help but marvel at his luck once again.
As Luna was right, the world was on his side; he was the one favored by the world. This must be the good fortune brought by the so-called "blessing of the world" and the title of "hero of humanity."
Chapter 55 Single Push Breaks Defense
“It’s a pity… Theresis is dead.” Hedley frowned as he looked at the body bag beside him.
"What's there to regret?" W couldn't resist kicking the Regent's corpse again. "He died a good death... What, have you developed feelings for this guy after living here for so long?"
"Don't tell me you're feeling sorry for this guy right now?"
W's eyes widened, her scarlet eyes gleaming with a blood-red light; clearly, she was enraged by Hadley's words.
“No, of course I won’t feel any… pity for this man.” Hedley shook his head, then continued, “But, at least for now, he can’t just die like this.”
Hedley looked at Bai Ye as he spoke:
“White Night, I think now is a very bad time, at least for the Sarkaz.”
“I don’t think so.” W stood to the side, arms crossed over his chest, glancing sideways at the corpse on the ground.
"Don't tell me you've come up with some new crazy idea, Hadley. Is it because you're missing an eye that you're hallucinating? Or perhaps the nerves in your brain have been damaged by the eye injury and are acting abnormally?"
As she spoke, she turned to look at Ines:
"You went too far, Ines. Seriously, were you really willing to hurt this guy?"
Ines turned her head away, ignoring W. W was like a bomb about to explode, and she didn't want to provoke this crazy guy.
She didn't want this guy to plant a bomb under her tent while she was sleeping in the middle of the night...
Hedley looked at W and said seriously:
“W, listen to me. Kill him, and Kazdel will cease to exist. Theresis has cast himself as the cornerstone of the Sarkaz future. What we need is to get the Sarkaz off Victoria before everyone knows of his death.”
“Once the Sarkaz’s defeat is made public and the deterrent effect of Theresis is gone, the dukes will slaughter the Sarkaz in Victoria without restraint, and the retaliation will extend to other countries in the core. Every civilization will have a legitimate excuse to exterminate the Sarkaz.”
"Then organize a coalition army, storm into Kazdel, and divide up all the legacy left by Theresa and Theresis."
W scoffed.
"Honestly, I don't care at all about the consequences of Theresis's death. All I need is his 'death.' The Allied Forces? Kill the Sarkaz? Isn't that what they've been doing all along? Does the death of Theresis mean that the demons' desire to resist has vanished?"
After a pause, W pointed to the corpse in the body bag on the ground and said viciously:
"He sent assassins to kill Theresa, proclaimed himself king, and dragged everyone into this mess. He deserves it; he should pay the price for what he got to this point."
"If you ask me, Bai Ye... he was too merciful. He gave this guy such an easy death so readily. Did you see his face just now? It was so peaceful, he died so... calmly, without any pain!"
"That bastard Theresis! He has no idea how much Theresa suffered! How much pain all the Sarkaz grieved when Theresa died!"
W clenched her fist, her nails digging into her palms, yet she was completely unaware. Clearly, she still harbored resentment over what had happened in the past.
“Don’t think you can stay out of this, W.” Hedley looked at W. “Yes, you are safe now. You’re with White Night, and no one will dare to mess with you. As long as you hide in the core city of Chernobog, you and your men will be safe and protected.”
"But what about the others? What about the Sarkaz? And those who remain in Kazdel? If the core nations form an alliance again to raze Kazdel to the ground, don't you know what will happen to them?"
Hedley looked at W and sighed:
"Yes, Sarkaz mercenaries really don't need to care about anyone else. They've always been selfish. They're constantly killing each other. The rate at which mercenaries die is almost in line with the production capacity of identification tags. Most of the metal resources are used to kill soldiers rather than to remember them."
"However, this situation is twisted and pathological. No normal race or nation would be like this. W, you are indeed safe, but are you willing to stay in Chernobog and hide under that dragon girl's protection for the rest of your life?"
“…” W wavered.
“And there’s… Theresia. The two of them are the reason the Sarkaz are able to unite,” Hedley continued.
"!" W's eyes widened immediately upon hearing the name.
She was about to jump up and say something, but was stopped by Hadley and Ines.
“No… W, you still haven’t accepted Theresa’s death. You’re used to being the shadow of the Tower of Babel.” Hedley pointed to the corpse on the ground. “Even if you kill him a hundred times, Theresa won’t really come back to life. As for the one on the airship, you know he’s an imposter.”
"Even if she is the real thing, she is a twisted creation. What we need to do is give her another peaceful rest."
Even after five years, W still hasn't recovered from the destruction of the Tower of Babel and the death of Theresa; her timeline remains frozen on that day.
At this moment, spurred by Therese's death and Hedley's provocation, she completely unleashed her emotions.
……
“Hedley.” Bai Ye put his hand on the Sarkaz mercenary’s shoulder. “Don’t provoke her… If she loses her temper and throws a bomb that blows up the Western Hall of the Holy King Society, the Victorians will come after us.”
"Ha, the Sarkaz have occupied this city for so long, and they haven't fought back at all. The Grand Duke hasn't even uttered a sound," W sneered.
"I don't care what you think. Any conflicts will be resolved in Kazdel. If they can't be resolved there, we can go to the core city." Bai Ye frowned.
He then looked at Hadley:
"As for your concerns, there's no need to worry too much. I promised Theresis that I would help you stop Victoria's retaliation and the Grand Dukes' allied forces."
"This is a promise I made to him before he died."
Bai Ye said in a deep voice.
Hedley, Ines, and W were stunned upon hearing this, and they looked at Bai Ye in surprise.
Clearly, Bai Ye had no obligation to do so, nor did he need to make any promises to kill Theresis.
However, this guy has now made another decision that is unexpected.
Chapter Fifty-Six: The Mysterious Visitor
“White Night, I didn’t expect you to do this,” Hedley said, somewhat surprised.
"I'm not some kind of devil..." Bai Ye rolled her eyes.
"Yes, they wiped out the core city completely in one go, turning it into a river of blood overnight..." Ines muttered.
"Huh? What are you talking about?" Bai Ye turned to look at Ines, a kind and gentle smile on his face.
“Uh…it’s nothing.” Ines paused for a moment.
Mingye's face was beaming with a smile so bright you could see the light behind it, but the oppressive aura she exuded was no joke; at least Ines dared not mention the matter again.
“Theresis has taken all the blame and has already paid the price,” Bai Ye said softly. “Although I have no sympathy for him. However… if we choose to settle scores with the Sarkaz race after the war, then what difference will there be between us and Regent Theresis, who caused all of this?”
W fell into deep thought.
Hedley and Ines nodded.
Before the war, Bai Ye was the most enthusiastic, firmly believing that this special operation must destroy the Sarkaz's ambitions in Lentinium; however, after the battle, he became the most steadfast anti-war advocate. Once the goal was achieved, he would no longer pursue extermination relentlessly.
A cycle of mutual revenge and hatred is pointless; it will only perpetuate the flames of war on this land until they completely evaporate everyone.
This vicious cycle must be stopped at some point. Perhaps, on this land, no one understands the profound meaning of peace better than Bai Ye. On Earth, his ancestors waged a war that nearly destroyed the entire planet.
Humanity almost destroyed its own civilization. If Luna, a near-godlike being, hadn't suddenly appeared and brought peace back to the world, none of this would have happened, and Bai Ye wouldn't have appeared.
"Alright, I have to go. There are still enemies I need to deal with." Bai Ye turned around. "I'll leave the cleanup here to you."
Bai Ye still needed to deal with the Blood Demon Lord; he had already spent too much time on Theresis. Fortunately, there were many powerful figures fighting against the Lord of the Blood Court, which reassured Bai Ye considerably.
Before leaving, Bai Ye suddenly remembered something. He turned around, went to W's side, and then said in a deep voice:
"W, I only want to ask you one question: what does Theresa really mean to you? Is she just a distant symbol who once gave you a place to stay, the real, flesh-and-blood Theresa, or... the path she represents?"
Bai Ye didn't wait for W's answer, nor did he care about the girl's answer. After asking the question, Bai Ye turned and left again.
With a sonic boom, Bai Ye's figure disappeared into the underground hall. However, before disappearing, he seemed to glance towards a corner of the hall.
……
After Bai Ye finished speaking, W fell silent, kicking the pebbles at her feet, lost in thought.
Hedley and Ines, however, were clearly not as accustomed to the sudden disappearance of the White Night as W was. They removed their hands from their ears and looked at each other in bewilderment.
"This guy has changed so much since he was a kid..." Ines muttered.
Unlike W, they hadn't seen Bai Ye in a long time. And now, all they could see in Bai Ye were traces of the past, such as his unchanged wicked sense of humor.
“I think he might be becoming more and more like His Highness, but unfortunately, he is not a Sarkaz,” Hedley said softly.
“Whether I am a Sarkaz or not is not important, and I am not a Sarkaz either. What we need are people who inherit His Highness’s will. The more people who agree with this ideal, the closer we will be to the world His Highness envisioned.” Ines shook her head.
However, both of them knew very well that this was a topic that was too far off.
Now, all they can do is pray that White Night will fulfill its promise and, in turn, protect Sarkaz from Victoria's retaliation and aggression.
"By the way, did you notice Bai Ye glancing over there just now? Was there anything there?" Hedley suddenly asked.
His gaze was directed towards a shadowy spot in the corner of the hall.
Ines shook her head:
"The shadow over there is normal, there's nothing there. There are only the three of us in this hall. Oh, and there's a dead person too."
“That’s strange…” Hedley was puzzled, but he could only trust Ines’s judgment and categorize Bai Ye’s turn of the head as some kind of unconscious behavior.
……
After Hadley and the others left, a figure emerged from the shadows on the ground floor of the western hall of the Holy Kings.
She was a blue-haired girl. She wore an enormous hat and a long black dress, making her look like a mysterious witch.
"What a terrifying look! How did he spot me?"
The girl gasped.
That was the most terrifying creature she had ever seen, even surpassing Theresis, the ancient and insane Blood Demon, or even a ten-thousand-year-old dead soul.
It was a fear that touched the very core of her being; with just one glance, the girl felt an immense threat.
