“The Zeon forces suddenly concentrated their forces and created a salient on the front line closest to us. The captain and his team were ordered to intercept them, but communication is cut off, and they have no idea what's going on. If possible, I hope you can help us.” Rachel said with a look of shame, “I know this is unreasonable, but we have no one else…”

Are there any spare units?

Lin Xingyuan didn't ask any more questions, picked up his clothes and stood up.

"some!"

Rachel nodded hurriedly and led Lin Xingyuan to the parking area. There was a large camouflage netting there, and the mechs were being prepared under the netting. But at this moment, only the maintenance equipment and one mech remained on site. It was the one that Lin Xingyuan had messed up during the day. Annie, wearing a short vest and a helmet, was sitting in the cockpit, directing the others to help remove the maintenance wiring harness that connected to the mech.

"Annie! What are you doing?!"

Rachel exclaimed when she saw Anne sitting in the cockpit.

"Of course we're going to provide support, since I'm the only one who can still pilot this thing right now."

Anne answered in a matter-of-fact tone.

"You can only operate the controls, not fight!"

"As long as it can fire, it's fine, right?"

“Piloting an MS into battle is not a simple matter!” Rachel said anxiously, then looked at Lin Xingyuan: “She can only move the machine around, she can’t go to the battlefield at all.”

"I see."

Lin Xingyuan raised his hand to stop her from continuing, quickly climbed onto the crouching fuselage, and reached out his hand to Annie in the pilot's seat.

"Let me have it."

“Captain?” Anne was taken aback for a moment, but still took his hand and stood up, making room for him: “I’m sorry to have you do this.”

"I was just going to the front lines to inspect the combat situation of the test troops."

Lin Xingyuan blinked and answered with a smile. Seeing his calm and composed demeanor, completely devoid of fear and tension, Annie couldn't help but be moved. Taking advantage of the opportunity to exchange helmets, she kissed his cheek as if possessed.

"Thank you!"

She thanked him and then quickly jumped off the aircraft. She was so nervous that she almost fell when she landed, but Rachel caught her.

"..."

As expected of a Latina girl, she's so passionate and outgoing.

Although Annie's kiss came out of nowhere, Lin Xingyuan's mood instantly improved, his drowsiness vanished, and he manipulated his mech to stand up, turned to the weapon rack, and selected his weapon.

Who is the combat commander?

He asked through the loudspeaker, and Noelle's face immediately appeared on the small communication screen. Judging from the background, she should be in the communication command vehicle.

"Captain, I will be in charge of communications guidance for this battle."

The familiar voice and the familiar scene instantly ignited Lin Xingyuan's passion. At this moment, a standard response was the only appropriate thing to do.

"Understood, Lin Xingyuan, Zani, One-Strike Horse!"

Yes, that's it! That's exactly right!

This is exactly what we want to see!

[It tastes just right!]

[Look ahead, it's pitch black; that must be the thieves' lair. I'll hurry and wipe them all out!]

Amidst the clamor of the comments, Lin Xingyuan stepped on the pedal, and Zani sprang into action, striding towards the battlefield.

Ahead, shells continuously pierced the sky, leaving trails of light. Due to their excessive density, even collisions occurred. Explosions continued incessantly ahead, and flares lit up the night sky, illuminating the entire battlefield as bright as day.

The wind blew in through the still-open hatch, carrying the smell of gunpowder and blood, as well as gunshots, explosions, collisions, shouts of battle, and all sorts of other sounds, making it feel more like being on a battlefield than in space.

Uncle Ramball really understands things; that line is really good.

This wind, this smell, this is the smell of the battlefield!

Chapter 83 The Black Death Inspects the Front Lines (Part 1)

Shells were constantly falling around us, and the smoke from burning debris filled the battlefield, severely impairing visibility.

In Lin Xingyuan's field of vision, the barrage of suggestions kept coming up. Some told him to take the Steel Belli transport plane and airdrop from behind to catch Zeon off guard. Others told him to dive across the river and cut off their retreat. Still others told him to take a trailer and drive on the elevated road. But this was Lin Xingyuan's first time fighting in a gravity environment on an unfamiliar battlefield. Without prior planning or sufficient support, and out of consideration for his own life, he adopted a relatively conservative tactical maneuver strategy and decided to follow Delta Squad's previous route.

"The 113th Tank Company has Type 61 tanks deployed at the bridge ahead. Communication has been established. Be careful of accidental firing."

Noel was nervously providing tactical guidance when Lin Xingyuan quickly spotted the tanks scattered and waiting. They were guarding a bridge, behind which lay the burning city, with towering buildings standing side by side. Even an 18-meter MS would be inconspicuous inside, no wonder the tank company dared not go in.

"Get me connected to the tank company's communications."

Lin Xingyuan spoke to Noel, and the communication was quickly established. The anxious voice of the tank company commander came through – the Federation Army was an army that unified all of humanity's armed forces, a massive organization. Even if Lin Xingyuan were a colonel, let alone a captain, these local troops would likely ignore him. Moreover, their regiment had suffered heavy losses and they were extremely worried that Lin Xingyuan would bring another order to kill them.

Lin Xingyuan didn't mind their attitude, but instead carefully inquired about the intelligence they possessed—although tanks couldn't enter, sending infantry observation posts to conduct reconnaissance via wired telephones was no problem. According to their observations, Delta Squad was likely trapped in the northeastern district of the city, surrounded by a considerable number of mobile suits deployed by the Zeon forces; more than ten had been sighted!

The concentration of Minovsky particles on the battlefield was so high that normal communication was impossible.

"Thank you so much."

Marking the information provided by the scouts on the electronic map, Lin Xingyuan continued forward. After agreeing on a support agreement, Lin Xingyuan jogged his mech, but didn't cross the bridge—if the enemy were smart enough, they would have already occupied nearby high ground; to just walk in so openly would be truly foolish. He maneuvered his mech along the river, using buildings as cover, moving to the side. Sure enough, he soon spotted a Zaku perched atop a tall building—standing at the foot of the 18-meter-high mech, it seemed enormous, but from a distance, compared to the hundreds-of-meters-tall building, 18 meters was actually insignificant.

He stared at the MS on the rooftop for a few seconds, making sure it wasn't looking this way, then looked away and continued moving.

Lin Xingyuan had never fought a mobile suit battle on the ground, after all, he was born in a peaceful country. However, he had played various Gundam games and tank battle games, and had gained a wealth of combat experience in these games. Although he could not completely apply it to actual combat, he knew at least how to quickly locate the enemy and how to use the terrain to provide cover for himself.

Zani carefully made his way through the relatively low-rise buildings on the street. For a moment, Lin Xingyuan was worried that he would be unlucky and get hit by a stray bullet while piloting this unreliable machine, or be killed by a malfunction. But when his eyes swept over the bodies of several civilians who had died in the crossfire at the street corner, he no longer had these worries. All that remained was the anger of defeating and killing the enemy.

Are there any civilians left in the city?

He asked Noelle, and Noelle said sadly.

"Most of them have been evacuated, but there should still be people who didn't have time to take refuge."

"Oh."

Just as Lin Xingyuan was pondering how to avoid friendly fire, a flare suddenly lit up ahead, revealing the outline of a Zaku at the end of the street. He immediately pulled back the control stick, and Zani came to a screeching halt, taking two steps back and hiding behind what appeared to be a warehouse. He then removed the cannon, leaned out, and aimed at the mobile suit that was likely also maneuvering, but instead of firing it immediately, he had Noel call over the tank company from before, asking them to fire a couple of shots at the vicinity.

Soon, the tank behind raised its cannon high and fired two 150mm high-explosive shells in howitzer mode. The shells landed near the Zaku IIJ, overturning the road and causing a nearby fire hydrant to burst, spewing water jets several meters high. The enemy aircraft immediately stopped and adopted a defensive posture to search. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Lin Xingyuan decisively pulled the trigger. The flames from the cannon shattered the warehouse windows and silently pierced the night (not a tracer round), hitting the target.

The enemy aircraft's left side was instantly pierced, followed by an orange-red fireball rising from its back before being knocked to the ground by the force of the impact and exploding brilliantly.

"One machine."

Lin Xingyuan counted the moves and aimed at the rear of the target—the enemy shouldn't be acting alone. Sure enough, at the corner of the building behind the Zaku IIJ, a smoke grenade was thrown out by a giant steel hand. After the smoke dissipated, a Magella tank rumbled out first, using its lower altitude to search for enemy positions from the smoke-free area below. Then another Zaku IIJ jumped out of its cover, advanced at high speed, and searched for enemy positions with its machine gun raised. From this, it can be seen that the enemy is quite well-trained and should be veterans from the first wave of landings, who are very skilled in using this tactic.

Unfortunately, they were misled by the recent shelling and mistook it for a federal army tank force entering the city.

Lin Xingyuan calmly moved the gun barrel and fired again, hitting the advancing Zaku IIJ directly. The enemy aircraft was hit, crashed down, and exploded violently. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Lin Xingyuan leaped out of the cover, crossed the river, and fired the 60mm shell at the Magella tank as it frantically turned its hull—this thing's turret couldn't rotate, so it fired directly from the front. The shell swept across the top of the Magella tank, directly opening the canister of this peculiar vehicle, not even giving the crew a chance to separate the hull.

"Second unit." After landing, Lin Xingyuan knew he couldn't stay in one place, so he quickly maneuvered his machine to turn and enter the street next to it, keeping a close eye on the Zeon infantry and the Zaku on the high ground.

Fortunately—perhaps the MS team advanced too quickly, the infantry hadn't caught up yet, and the battlefield environment was noisy and communication was poor, so no one noticed his presence, and he thus broke into the city.

A roar came from the sky, as the Federation's Swordfish and Dop were locked in combat. If he were piloting a Gundam, Lin Xingyuan would definitely lend a hand, but he was piloting a Zani, so he had to keep a low profile and act as timid and cautious as a rookie.

Noel kept sending support intelligence, mostly from scouts scattered throughout the city. This allowed Lin Xingyuan to easily avoid the Zeon armored scouts riding PVN.4/3 Wappa hoverbikes. These hoverbikes are similar to motorcycles and are very fragile, but they are like the eyes of mobile suits and armored units, providing great convenience for troop movements.

Ahead, a Zaku suddenly appeared, its single eye turning as it spotted the moving Zani. It immediately turned its cannon around, but Lin Xingyuan kept the cannon pointing forward and moved even faster, giving it a good blast with his 100mm cannon without a word.

"Two machines!"

The Zaku, wounded and engulfed in flames, collapsed. The pilot, however, managed to jump out of the machine at the last second, only to be caught by a nearby Federation scout and shot dead on the spot. Meanwhile, Lin Xingyuan's Zani leaped backward into another street devoid of Zakus, crushing parked vehicles.

"Sorry, remember to seek compensation from the federal government later."

Lin Xingyuan awkwardly apologized to the driver, who had disappeared, and continued driving northeast into the city.

Isn't this kind of fight scene a bit too bland?

However, I'd like to aim for a level of realism similar to 08MS in the ground station aspect. I hope you'll understand.

If you have different opinions, you can also raise them.

Chapter 84 The Black Death Inspects the Front Lines (Part 2) - Bonus Chapter for the New Year!

Is PL playing Assassin's Creed?

This isn't Assassin's Creed, it's more like an Allied suicide squad!

[This is a bit boring; I want to see a thrilling battle.]

[Were you serious? A space warfare expert who just landed on Earth and is still operating a test machine with a bunch of problems? Even the most experienced veteran would be wary.]

[Zani, whose driving is unreliable, prioritizes his heart]

As the comments scrolled by, Lin Xingyuan could clearly feel that people were starting to like him, which made him feel very gratified.

With the audience showing such respect, he couldn't afford to lose face.

Smoke grenades were billowing smoke at the intersection ahead. He quickly turned his attention to another street corner and peered out. Sure enough, he spotted six Zeon tanks and over a hundred infantrymen on the march. They were probably combat scouts. He immediately contacted Noel and requested artillery fire support from the tank convoy, but soon received a reply that the firing angle was blocked.

"The tank crew said a building is blocking their firing angle and they can't provide support, but I've called in other firepower. Please retreat a little further and be careful."

"Ok?"

Lin Xingyuan was puzzled, but he still obediently retreated. A few seconds later, a roar like a train whistling came from the sky. He had heard this sound during the day. He quickly manipulated his machine to crouch down, and then three shells fell, completely covering the group of Zeon soldiers.

"Goodness, it really is the Patton's main gun!"

Seeing the Magella tank actually fly into the air, and the street that had just been filled with Zeon soldiers turn into a huge crater, Lin Xingyuan couldn't help but gasp—he had just felt guilty for damaging the property of the local residents, but now…

This is war, there's nothing we can do about it.

He sighed inwardly, deciding to use his victory to salvage his reputation. After a moment's thought, he turned on his communicator and called out to those nearby.

"Any Federation Army brothers nearby? Let me know."

On the other side—

In the Zaku cockpit atop the building, Major Schmidt, commander of the Zeon assault team, noticed the smoke and dust from the ship's gun explosion and couldn't help but sneer.

"They completely disregard the property of residents and the safety of refugees. The Federal Army is even more shameless than we imagined."

The voice of the MS squad leader came through the headset: "That's why we must destroy the Federation's tyranny and return freedom to the people."

"That's true."

"Hahahaha!"

Several cheerful laughs rang out in the channel, all from MS pilots of the assault team. Schmidt frowned unhappily.

"Stop spouting nonsense that has nothing to do with the battle,"

"terribly sorry……"

Several of his subordinates apologized, and Schmidt then asked, "What happened with the shelling? Why was it fired at that spot?"

He did not believe that the federal army would make baseless accusations.
