Third, the Easter eggs in Yuanxia Palace
1. Special type of ray
There are two special types of rays at the fishing spot in Yuanxia Palace: one is called Formalo ray and the other is called Divda ray.
The game's description page states that the name of the Flame Ray comes from "the mouth of greed," while the name of the Deva Ray comes from "the tail of innocence."
This Easter egg is probably something few people will understand.
The names of these two rays are actually puns, representing the two brightest stars in the autumn night, "Fomalhaut" and "Diphda," which belong to the constellations of the two fish, Piscis Austrinus and Cetus, respectively.
"Foalmata" is the "mouth" of the constellation Pisces australis, and "Tusikong" is the "tail" of the constellation Cetus.
Their names symbolize that even deep underground, the people of the White Night Kingdom still yearn for the starry sky outside.
2. Triangular Triangle Land
When I was writing the story of Yuanxia Palace, I made some simplifications because the map of Yuanxia Palace is very large, and the story missions often require running all over the map. So I shrunk the map in the story without affecting the logic of the story.
In reality, besides the central Great Sun Palace and the three large floating islands, the Abyss Palace in the game also has three smaller islands. These three smaller islands are the true "Three Corners," the outermost part of the Abyss Palace, and also the location of the "Virtual Tower."
These three places are all named on the map: "Yachimatahiko", "Yachimatahime", and "Kunado".
These three names come from the Japanese mythological book "Kojiki-den," which records that Izanagi, the creator god of Japan, returned from the land of the dead and cleansed himself of the filth he brought from the land of the dead. The filth that was washed away became twelve gods.
Susanoo was born from washing his nose; he is the god of the sea. Tsukuyomi was born from washing his right eye; and Amaterasu was born from washing his left eye. As for the three gods mentioned above, Yamahiko, Yamahime, and Ki—they were gods who emerged from Izanagi washing his loincloth. I think everyone should understand the composition of these gods…
These three deities, whose names are associated with the scent of photinia flowers, are known as "Dōzu-jin" in Japan. They are the guardians of the village's borders, standing at the village entrance or important road junctions to prevent evil spirits from invading the village.
Therefore, the names of these three gods were used as "boundary markers" for the Yuanxia Palace in the game.
In addition, in real-life Japan, the deity Doso-shin, due to his special status, also plays an important role in guiding Japanese children through their coming-of-age rites—because the statue of Doso-shin is usually depicted as a very straightforward, rigid figure, or as a man and a woman engaging in a very straightforward, yet profound, conversation…
Because the censors at Hedgehog Cat can't handle such stimulating images—too stimulating and they might have to sneak out in the middle of the night to wash their loincloths—we'll just post a picture of the Taoist Ancestor dressed more neatly as a token gesture.
3. The origins of some achievement easter eggs
After illuminating the map of Yuanxia Palace, there will be an achievement called "How can one know the darkness of night?" This achievement comes from Haruki Murakami's words in "Hear the Wind Sing": "The light of day cannot know the depth of night."
Some say that this quote is Haruki Murakami's adaptation of Nietzsche's "Thus Spoke Zarathustra," specifically the line "The world is deep, more profound than the day can imagine."
After completing the exchange with the "Child of the Sun," there will also be an achievement called "All the Children of God Dance," which is also from Haruki Murakami, whose collection of short stories is titled "All the Children of God Dance."
After obtaining the Blood Branch Coral, there's an achievement called "Fire Rat Fur, Dragon Head Pearl, Buddha's Bowl, and..."
This achievement is a reference to the story of "The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter". Princess Kaguya posed a challenge to the suitors, asking each of the five suitors to find five items: "a stone bowl in front of a Buddha statue", "a jade branch from Penglai", "a fur coat made of fire rat skin", "a pearl on a dragon's head", and "a cowrie shell used by swallows for breeding". The "blood coral" that the man went to find is actually equivalent to the "jade branch from Penglai" in this story.
Unraveling the illusion of the blazing sun in the Abyss Palace will also grant you an achievement: "Wild Horse Spring, also known as Morizhi".
The story of Wild Horse Spring is that when the Buddhist monk Xuanzang was traveling west to obtain Buddhist scriptures, he lost his water bottle in the desert and almost died of thirst. Then he dreamed of divine revelation and followed his horse to find the way. Finally, he found an oasis spring and named it Wild Horse Spring.
Marici is the deity Marici in Buddhism. She is an emanation of Vairocana Buddha and symbolizes light and the sun. At the same time, the name Marici means "flame" or "sunlight".
These two allusions seem unrelated, and many players couldn't understand the meaning of the sentence at the time. But in reality, this achievement demonstrates that miHoYo's top-tier writers actually do read Buddhist scriptures...
The *Samyutta Nikaya* states: "For example, in late spring or early summer, when there are no clouds or rain, and the sun is at its zenith, wild horses are running about. A person with keen eyesight observes, contemplates, and discerns them. When he observes, contemplates, and discerns them, he finds nothing, nothing firm, nothing real, and nothing solid. Why is this? Because those wild horses have no solidity."
Simply put, Buddhist scriptures use the metaphor of "mirage" to describe "wild horse," meaning that the illusory light and shadow are like the mane of a wild horse. "Wild Horse Spring" actually refers to a mirage of an oasis in the desert.
The monk Xuanzang named the spring after a wild horse, probably because he thought he had encountered a mirage, but it turned out to be a real oasis. He was so moved, thinking, "Thank Buddha!" and named it after a story from Buddhist scriptures...
Finally, after achieving all the achievements in Fuchishita Palace, the description in the name card "Inazuma Tokoyo" is—
"Ah, great sun! If you did not possess everything you shine upon, what meaning would your light and heat have?"
This quote is adapted from Nietzsche's "Thus Spoke Zarathustra": "O great celestial body, where is your happiness if you do not possess all that you illuminate!"
Yes, it's Nietzsche again...
Mihoyo really loves Nietzsche.
IV. Coral Palace and Ryukyu
Although this is not part of the Yuanxia Palace map, Haiqi Island did develop from Yuanxia Palace, so it is still necessary to mention it.
This is the Coral Palace from the game.
This is the real-life site of the ancient Ryukyu Kingdom, Shuri Castle.
No need for further explanation, it's self-evident.
As the saying goes, "We are a string of pearls presented by the East Sea, and Ryukyu is my younger brother..."
Yes, one day, Haiqi Island will be an inseparable part of Liyue!
Summary of Volume VI
After a year, the Divine Child chapter is finally finished.
The entire story is also 140 million words long, the same length as Ningguang's story... Well, after all, they are our two favorite older sisters.
As I mentioned at the beginning of the Miko arc, Inazuma's storyline would be a large ensemble piece. The Miko gacha pool is called "A Hundred Faces of Life," and I've also written about Inazuma's "A Hundred Faces of Life"—over a hundred named characters with backstories appearing throughout the arc, basically covering everyone with a name on the map, and adding many new storylines.
Looking back, the hardships of the past year are still vivid in my mind, and the number of nights I stayed up exceeded the total number of nights I spent in the first thirty years of my life... I finally finished this big job.
The following is the usual summary, and as always, it contains spoilers. Readers who haven't finished reading the story should proceed at their own discretion to avoid spoiling their reading experience.
This is a spoiler warning line.
The Divine Child Chapter is mainly divided into three parts: the Inazuma Civil War, the Legend of the Thunder Movie Quest plus the Great Exorcism of the Divine Sakura, and the Fuchishita Palace Chapter.
I. Timeline
On July 31, the "Death Star" engaged in a naval battle with pirates sent by the Kansei Magistrate to hunt down Manyo. This battle is known as the "prelude" to the "Black Ships Incident".
On August 9th, the maiden voyage ceremony of Liyue's first ironclad warship, the "Tianheng," was held in Liyue Harbor. Gan Yu gave Han Fulai two letters. One was intelligence from Zhiyi, stating that the "Rich Man" had launched the "Cannon" project in Inazuma to obtain "Crystallized Bone Marrow." The other was a letter from Yae no Kiko, requesting help to save her god.
Han Fulai decides to travel to Inazuma aboard the "Tianheng" to thwart the Fatui's conspiracy and break Inazuma's "lockdown." Xingqiu, as the Liyue trade representative, will accompany the ship.
On the same day, the "Death Star" arrived at Narukami Island, where Ying and Paimon met the local tyrant, Thomas. Thomas gave Ying a "test" as requested by Ayaka before leaving.
That night, in order to break through the blockade of the outlying island, Ying accepted the mission of delivering a message from Hiiragi Senri, the eldest daughter of the Hiiragi family, who was in charge of the magistrate's office. As Hiiragi Senri's attendant, she went to the main island of Narukami Island and discovered that the "crystallized bone marrow" paid by the outlying island merchants as tax was being secretly transported to the direction of Umijima Island by the magistrate's office.
On August 10th, Ying and Paimon arrived at the "Wooden Casket Tea House" in Inazuma Castle and passed Thomas's test. After Thomas showed them the "Thousand-Armed Hundred-Eyed Statue," they went to the Kagemura Shrine to meet Ayaka Kamisato. After a swordsmanship exchange, Ayaka and Ying became friends, and Ayaka asked Ying to help her resist the "Eye Hunting Order."
On August 11, Ayaka and Hotaru, traveling incognito, met Tejima, a villager from Konta Village whose God Eye had been taken from him, and Kurosawa, the castle magistrate. That evening at the "Wooden Leak Tea House," Hotaru met Yoomiya, the "Hanamisaka arms dealer," and learned that the Kujo family, the castle magistrate, would be holding a festival soon.
On August 12, the "Tianheng" ship set sail for Inazuma.
Ayaka and Ying went to the "Meijō-Shisui-ryū" dojo and encountered Yae no Miko, the priest of Narukami Taisha Shrine, who was helping the dojo master Tsuchimon with "exorcising evil spirits".
That evening, Ayato Shinra, the head of the Shaman's magistrate, was invited to a banquet at the Tenryo Magistrate's Office. On his way back, he was ambushed by the Fools. Meanwhile, the "Final Chapter" ninjas were covering a resistance squad as they entered Inazuma Castle.
On August 13th, Thomas, who had helped deliver Hiiragi Senri's love letter to Kujo Kamaji, the second son of the Tenryo Magistrate, was arrested and imprisoned by the Tenryo Magistrate and became the "hundredth eye of God" to be sacrificed to the statue of the god. The Tenryo Magistrate held a grand festival to celebrate the "Hunting Eye Ceremony," and the Raiden General personally attended the ceremony.
To save Thomas, Ying bravely stormed the execution ground, fighting against General Raiden but ultimately losing. Araki Ichito intervened, disrupting the chaos. In the ensuing confusion, Thomas and Ying jumped off a cliff together. The general issued a warrant for their arrest, declaring he would "build Ying into a statue." Thomas and Ying drifted downstream to the lower city of Inazuma Castle, where they were met by Hisaki Shinobu, who arranged for her to go to Hachimonji Island to join the Coral Palace resistance.
On August 15, the "Tianheng" arrived at Haiji Island. Han Fulai and his party met with Coral Palace Xin Hai, Goro, Hokuto, Manyo and others. At the same time, they met with "Tenryo magistrate's spy" Kanoin Heizo and learned that Tenryo magistrate had spies hiding in the resistance army.
Xin Hai expressed his willingness to give up everything in exchange for Li Yue's external support, and Han Fulai signed the "Li Hai Marriage Treaty" with Xin Hai.
On August 16, Han Fulai and others met with Yinghe Paimeng at the front line of Tengdouzhai. Xinhai discussed the battle plan for the Battle of Mingzhuitan with the generals of the resistance army and proposed the "center-blooming" tactic, which was fiercely criticized by Su Ding, the chief of staff of the Qianyan Army.
Han Fulai exposed Xin Hai's "counter-espionage" scheme and the identity of the mastermind behind the resistance army—Yae no Kamiko. He obtained Xin Hai's oath of loyalty and subsequently formulated a plan for the Battle of Meizuina, which would involve the "Tianheng".
On August 18th, the Battle of Nashiina began. The Sen'iwa army's Su Ding broke through the Shogunate's spear formation, and Han Fulai used a ruse to capture Kujo Sara alive. On the battlefield, Yingmei earned the reputation of "Peerless Sea Goddess". The Shogunate army's Tasuna-suna main camp was breached by the "Shisho-sei", and the "Kamijujima Collapse Cannon" position at Kannazuka was also destroyed by the "Ten'hyō".
The shogunate army's elite forces were wiped out, and the remaining troops retreated to the "Kujo Jinya".
The Battle of Meishiina Beach is historically known as the "Black Ships Incident".
From August 19th to August 30th, Shinkai employed a "psychological warfare" strategy against the Shogunate army prisoners of war, including Sara, to promote the policy of capturing prisoners and undermine the Shogunate army's will.
Han Fulai and Xingqiu investigate the condition of the "Mikage Furnace Core" in Tatara Sand. They learn from Xavier, the factory manager and engineer from Fontaine, that the furnace core is about to explode. Han Fulai and Xingqiu enter the factory with Xavier's "Image Machine" to investigate, where they encounter the Tenryo magistrate samurai "Gon Gozaemon" who is destroying the "Mikage Furnace Core".
Xingqiu unleashed the ancient Huapai's ultimate technique, the "Method of Mutual Generation and Restraint," attacking with both spear and sword. Quan Wuzaemon was no match for him and activated the "Evil Spirit" within his body to self-destruct.
When Han Fu came to rescue Xing Qiu, he unexpectedly learned that she was the "second young lady" and the sworn brothers' relationship changed from "sex brothers" to "brothers of opposite sexes".
Later, Han returned to investigate the matter of "Gon Gozaemon" and happened to encounter Hikimura Yuuya seeking help from Sango-no-miya. He then went to Hikimura with Kano-in and others to investigate and uncovered the secret of the Kujo family and the Fools' Clan colluding to use Hikimura villagers for "evil eye" experiments. At the same time, he reached an alliance agreement with Yae no Miko.
Mr. N, a spy of the Fools hidden in the resistance, realized that he might be exposed. He activated the side effect of the "Evil Eye", causing all the resistance soldiers who possessed the "Evil Eye" to show signs of aging in order to create chaos, and at the same time, he killed Washizu, the village chief of Hiki Village.
Han Fulai investigates Washijin's death and uncovers "Mr. N," a spy from the Fools.
Ying's friend Teppei died because of the "Evil Eye". In order to avenge Teppei, Ying decided to infiltrate the Jujin Clan's "Evil Eye Factory".
Han Fulai, Xingqiu, and Ying disguise themselves as "Mr. N" and his entourage to enter the "Evil Eye Factory." Ying massacres the factory, while Han Fulai confronts the sixth seat of the Fools' Enforcers, "Scattered Soldiers," who is stationed at the factory.
The "Scattered Soldiers" used the Dharma of "All Dharmas Without Form" to lead Han Fulai into his own consciousness space, where Han Fulai learned about the "False Heaven" that the "Scattered Soldiers" knew.
The "Scattered Soldiers" plan aims to ascend to godhood and create a new world based on the "Aru" of the Red King of Sumeru.
After a fierce battle, Han Fulai, with the help of the divine child, defeated the "scattered soldiers".
After "Scatter Soldier" fell into a coma, he was taken away by the Divine Child. The Divine Child told "Scatter Soldier" the truth about four hundred years ago. "Scatter Soldier" realized that he had been deceived and decided to seek revenge on "Doctor". He also helped the Divine Child create the "Anti-Lightning General Training" mechanism.
Han Fulai asked Xingqiu to write "Chenqiu Picks Up the Sword Record" to expose the evil deeds of the Kujo family through the novel's plot. With the help of "Yaedo", it successfully stirred up a public opinion craze. At the same time, it revealed Kujo Takayuki's conspiracy to Kujo Sara, who was determined to go back to find the truth.
On the night of August 30th, Yoomiya created a fire at the "Thousand-Armed, Hundred-Eyed Statue" using fireworks, drawing out the Tenryo Magistrate's guards to put out the fire. An elite resistance squad, aided by the "Final Squad" ninja Hayato, stormed the Tenryo Magistrate's residence. Kujo Sara confronted Kujo Takayuki, who shifted all blame onto the Raiden General. Sara and Keira attempted to storm the castle tower but were stopped by Yae no Miko.
On August 31, Han Fulai led the "Tianheng" to attack the "Kujou Jinya" and read the "Declaration of Overthrow of the Shogunate" to the entire Inatsuma Castle, provoking General Raiden to intervene. General Raiden, from a hundred miles away, unleashed a "thoughtless strike" at the "Tianheng," and Han Fulai took the blow to the face without a scratch, a miracle that became a legend in Inatsuma Castle.
On that day, the "Kujo Campaign" was breached, and Kujo Masahiro, the eldest son of the Kujo family, was captured. The main force of the shogunate army was thus wiped out.
Xingqiu asked how to deal with General Thunder and Lightning, and Han Fulai said that he had already fired "bullets".
On September 1st, Yae no Kamiko devised the "Anti-Lightning General Special Training" for Hikari.
On the morning of that day, the "International Chamber of Commerce" protested against the oppressive rule of the government, which was met with a bloody crackdown, known in history as the "September 1st Massacre".
That same afternoon, a small resistance squad led by Midorikawa and Jiro Saimon sneaked back into Konta Village and launched the "Konta Uprising".
That evening, Kurosawa was ordered by the Tenryo Enforcer to recruit soldiers for the "Meijō-Shisui-ryū" dojo. The sect leader, Tsuchimon, told Kurosawa, "Don't let benevolence become a lie." Then, carrying the dojo's signboard, he went to the castle tower to challenge Raiden-sō. He fought against Okuzawa and his hundred-strong army alone, but was captured after exhausting his strength.
On September 2, Matsukawa, the steward of the government office, and Nagaoka, the deputy steward, met with Okazaki Rikuto, a former high-ranking official of the shogunate, and Masaoki Honjima, a member of the Okuzawa clan, at the "Uyu-tei" to secretly plot the Meiji Restoration Movement. They wrote "The Book of the Ideas for Rise" and presented it to the shogun.
Kurosawa returned to the castle town, rallied the refugees there, raised the banner of "Heavenly Punishment," and resolved to purge the court of corrupt officials and execute Kujo.
Kujo Takayuki meets with the "Lady," the executive officer of the Fools, and requests the Winter Kingdom's assistance in resolving the rebellion.
On September 3, various rebel groups gathered at Inazuma Castle. Government officials wrote to General Raiden, denouncing the Kujō family's various perverse acts. While awaiting summons, Ayato Kamisato beheaded Kujō Takayuki at the service table in the castle tower.
The civilian resistance forces and the magistrate of the castle tower were locked in a stalemate. Kujo Kamaji, the second son of the Kujo family, ordered the destruction of the bridge connecting the town and the upper city, cutting off the resistance forces' access to the castle tower.
Firefly stormed into the castle tower and challenged "Lady" to a "duel before the Emperor," successfully defeating her and avenging the arrow wound inflicted on her in front of the West Wind Cathedral. "Lady" was then killed by Raiden General according to the "rules."
Ying once again challenged General Raiden to a "duel before the emperor".
At the same time, Han Fulai "traveled by land and sailed by boat," and the "Tianheng" circled around the Kaifu defense line and appeared in Inazuma Castle.
Han Fulai attacked the "Thousand-Handed and Hundred-Eyed Statue," and General Leidian was forced to unleash the "Pure Land of One Heart" to take Han Fulai into it.
After the two confront each other, Han Fulai learns that the Heavenly Principles are in peril and that the "Calamity God" from beyond the world is invading Teyvat. Ray believes that they cannot be defeated by force, so he builds the "Thousand-Handed and Hundred-Eyed Statue" and uses the power of the Sky Island government to implement the "Wandering Rice Wife" plan.
With the blessing of the people of Inazuma, Han Fulai defeated Lei Yingdian with the "Spear of the God of War" and made a contract with Lei Yingdian to help him achieve true "eternity".
On that day, General Raiden read the "Imperial Rescript on the Termination of the War" to all of Inazuma, lifting the "Eye-hunting Edict" and the "Isolation Edict," thus ending the Inazuma Civil War.
From September 4th to September 6th, Han Fulai was appointed by the Emperor as the Minister of the Interior and concurrently the Private Secretary of the Shogunate of Inatsuma, leading the Meiji Restoration in Inatsuma.
The puppet general and the shadow have a conflict of ideas, which makes it impossible for the shadow to govern.
The divine child secretly performed a "great purification" in the "Pure Land of One Heart" to absorb the "evil star" within the Pure Land, preparing to sacrifice himself to suppress the "evil star". Afterwards, he disappeared under the pretext of "seclusion and recuperation".
The "Sanbing" left Inazuma for Sumeru, and before leaving, he gave the "Isshinden" sword manual to Manyo.
On September 7th, the Legend of the Thunder General quest begins. Han Fulai, Ying, and Paimon accompany Ying to Inazuma Castle to witness the changes in Inazuma, taste dango milk, read light novels, and finally take a group photo under the cherry blossom tree. As a result, Ying decides to revise the Puppet General's definition of "eternity".
From September 8th to September 14th, Han Fulai presided over bilateral talks between the Kaiji and the Shogunate on Hachiyeon Island to resolve issues left over from the war. At the same time, he brought out the remnants of the Fools who were plotting to undermine the peace of Inazuma and wiped out the radicals on both sides.
The "Southern Cross" fleet dispatched some personnel back to Liyue to report on the situation. At the same time, they brought back Liyue infrastructure workers to assist in the land reclamation project on Haiqi Island and began to establish a base on Haiqi Island in preparation for the Liyue Navy's "rotational training" against the monsters of the "Dark Sea".
On September 15th, Han Fulai returned to Narukami Island and heard that Ying had gone to Yingxiang Mountain to suppress demons. Han Fulai followed him to Yingxiang Mountain and met Ying and Yingmei, who were slaying the "Bleeding Dog." Ying told Han Fulai that Yae no Miko had gone missing. "The True Lord Who is Skilled at Finding People" began searching for the missing fox spirit.
After seeing numerous ley lines along the way, Han Fulai and his companions obtained clues in the Desolate Sea Palace and eventually found the consciousness space left behind by Lei Dianzhen in the cave under the Divine Cherry Tree.
From September 16th to September 22nd, after entering the consciousness space, the group was intercepted by the Puppet General, who demanded that Shadow duel with him to prove that she had not been "worn out." Shadow bestowed the "Wish-Granting Seal," the contract between herself and the Divine Child, upon Han Fulai, asking him to go and rescue the Divine Child, while she herself dueled with the Puppet General.
Ying helps Ying fight the Puppet General, but is no match for him and is sent out of the consciousness space by Ying. Ying finds Ayato and Ayaka to train in Inazuma swordsmanship, and eventually masters the sword intent of "Musou". She returns to the consciousness space to challenge the Puppet General again.
In his consciousness space, Han Fulai met Yae no Miko, who was performing the "Divine Cherry Blossom Purification." Miko asked Han Fulai to kill her in order to eliminate the "Evil Radiance" filth within her.
Han Fulai made a "familiarity contract" with the Divine Child, and together they traveled to the consciousness space of five hundred years ago. They found Lei Ying from five hundred years ago and together with Ying, they completed the "Divine Cherry Blossom Great Purification", completely eliminating the "evil radiance" remaining in the Divine Cherry Blossom Tree.
The duel between the puppet general and the shadow, which had lasted for five hundred years, has also come to a conclusion.
The remnant consciousness of Raiden Shin emerged from "Dream One Heart" and gave Han Fulai a hairpin containing the "Seed of Time" as a "meeting gift," while also entrusting his younger sister to Han Fulai.
