Of course, by this point, it was already Ms. Shirley's personal grudge, and Gao Ren was used to it.
"Cannon does have its merits, after all..."
"No, not at all. It's just something that requires you to lie down to fire on the ground and that will cause imbalance in space due to side effects."
"I think this must be a problem with the early design, and it should have been corrected in the new design... Never mind."
Seeing Shirley suddenly cover her ears like a child, Gao Ren couldn't help but scratch the back of his head.
"In any case, if he is such an excellent commander, then the plans in my mind should be able to be optimized."
"Lieutenant Gao Ren, you will be in charge of coordinating with Lieutenant Ai Jia of the Mudrock Squad."
"Huh? Me?"
"That's right, you came up with the plan, didn't you?"
At this point, he looked back at the communication screen:
"As you can see, Lieutenant Aiga, our unit is currently on an urgent and classified mission deep behind enemy lines, and we need your assistance for this. Lieutenant Gao Ren from our squad will handle the details with you."
"Wait, so young, and that face... could it be that..."
"What it is is not important, Lieutenant Aiga. We will send you a strategic map and instructions from within Zeon that we obtained through classified channels. Please act according to the instructions on it."
He glanced briefly at Lieutenant Top, whose eyes were now completely closed, and Corporal Sofia, who looked anxious, before finally turning his gaze to the smiling diver to the side.
Without needing any further verbal instructions, after loosening her wrists and fingers, her hands flew across the keyboard on the control panel.
"pat"
"All done. I've sent it out. Considering the current communication situation, it should be received in about five minutes. At that time, please use the European Front's 6th edition codebook to decipher it."
"Understood, I have passed the instructions on to my analysts."
"I'm sorry, Lieutenant Aiga, we cannot disclose the specifics of our mission, but please believe that it is for a greater strategic goal."
"It's alright. I wish you success during this most difficult time."
'patta'
Communication was then shut down.
"So...that's it?"
"Yes, of course. This communication channel is a top-secret information to the local infiltrating forces. The most important supplies and personnel movements are all conducted through this channel."
After stretching, the diver lay down directly on the chair:
"Besides, our 'Captain Cuvatro' also appeared in the video, so the credibility is completely guaranteed."
"But what if we get caught and accused of giving false orders?"
"That's what I need to consider."
Meeting Gao Ren's astonished gaze, Kuvatro simply reached out and patted him on the shoulder:
"In short, go ahead and do whatever plans and ideas you have, and I'll take care of the rest of the pressure."
"team leader……"
"However, I should take the biggest credit, after all, getting promoted and making money is my ultimate goal."
"..."
But perhaps because this captain does indeed possess a dual nature of both the divine and the supernatural, before Gao Ren could even feel deeply moved, those gleaming white teeth almost blinded him.
How should I put it?
"That's fine then."
He reached up and scratched the inexplicably itchy back of his head, then looked at the more reliable female diver:
"Lieutenant Aigar's mudstone squad is responsible for the Bavarian region, where the hilly terrain is very suitable for his artillery units to perform their duties."
"After all, it's a steel cannon."
After glancing at Shirley, who still seemed indignant, Gao Ren could only offer an awkward yet polite expression.
"So, what kind of mission instructions does our Lieutenant Gao Ren want to give?"
…………
"Captain, the complete mission instructions have been transmitted via the encrypted channel."
"Okay, is the map deciphering complete?"
"It's already finished, but..."
"But what?"
"You may need to review the specific details yourself."
"Ok?"
At first, Lieutenant Aiga didn't realize what was happening, but when the mobile computer was placed in front of him, the excessively detailed map displayed on it made his eyes widen:
"This map—if I remember correctly, Lieutenant Gao Ren from the Fourth Squad said he got it from Zeon?"
"Yes."
“But we just moved to this place a week ago, how can we mark it so easily?”
A myriad of thoughts churned in her mind, and Aija involuntarily pursed her lips:
What do they need our cooperation in?
"Yes, according to Captain Kuvatro's instructions, they want us to be able to withdraw from our current location before dawn tomorrow, and then take advantage of the situation to attack point C—a small Zeon supply depot in Bavaria, where we will plunder its resources and then rendezvous with the 44th Mechanized Composite Battalion, which is heading to the Linz region."
At this point, Sergeant Sakaki turned to the second page:
"And then..."
"And then what?"
"Then they wanted us to make it look like we had been through a fierce battle, to disguise the scene, but of course, that was an option."
"Is that so...?"
Listening to what his assistant said, Lieutenant Aigar couldn't help but rub his chin:
"If that's the case, I can guess what kind of tactics they're going to use..."
"what?"
"Alright, stop guessing."
Faced with the curious gaze of his second-in-command, Sergeant Sakaki, Aiga finally shook his head.
"Didn't we get two of those... Guntanks added to our team before?"
"Yes, what happened to that?"
"Set a timed explosive and blow up one of the planes and some spare cannon parts after we leave."
"Oh... wait?!"
After clearly hearing what his captain had said, Sergeant Sakaki's expression turned to shock:
"These are newly arrived tanks... no, are we going to blow them up?"
"Yeah, blow it up. Anyway, it's just an iron coffin mass-produced with old-fashioned turbine engines and ordinary titanium alloy armor. It can't play a basic role in this kind of mountainous terrain."
"But at least it can replace the turret with a crane and use it as a trailer."
"That's why I kept at least one of them."
After taking a deep breath, Lieutenant Aiga looked at the tall, camouflaged artillery-type mobile suits:
"Have the others get ready, and let the Type 74 hovercraft go ahead to scout the surrounding environment... We'll take this route and enter Linz from the southwest."
"What about the Zeon base at point C?"
"We can just turn around and pull it out when the time comes. Anyway, they didn't specify when we should start fighting, did they?"
As Lieutenant Aiga gazed at the strategic map, he narrowed his eyes.
"If my guess is correct, perhaps we should prioritize relocation."
Author's message
…………
Take Aiga's concept with a grain of salt. Aside from the six brothers, Zeon Front's biggest contribution is showing us how abstract Zeon's ultra-high tensile steel is. Non-composite armor with HE shells and steel needles, I can't even imagine what the even better Luna Titanium alloy looks like.
Chapter 40: Reasons for Joining the Army
July 29, UC.0079
1: 00 AM
The night was as dark as ink, pressing heavily on the water's surface, forming the silvery glow under the moonlight.
Like a sleeping giant python, its 'body', not shrouded in mist, reflects the starry sky like a clear mirror.
A night breeze swept by, creating tiny ripples that shattered the mirror of the starry sky before returning to calm in an instant.
"How beautiful! This is the Danube River."
Looking through the exposed bridge command tower at the seemingly endless, dark expanse of water and sky, the girl's eyes seemed to reflect the glittering stars:
"I read in a poem that it is said that you can meet your love on this beautiful river, and that the sky will bless you!"
"Corporal Sofia..."
"Oh, I'm so sorry!"
Upon hearing Lieutenant Top's helpless voice, and recalling their current predicament, Sophia lowered her head involuntarily.
"But I really think the Earth is beautiful."
"...I actually think so too."
Looking at Sofia's bewildered face, Lieutenant Top couldn't help but sigh:
"Has Corporal Sofia ever looked at Earth from space?"
“I’ve seen it! I saw this light blue planet when I took the shuttle from Granada to the ground. It’s really beautiful.”
Listening to that barely suppressed excitement, Top could clearly feel the anticipation within.
Sofia Anders, even in that military uniform, seems to be nothing more than a romantic girl who yearns for beauty at heart.
"So why did you choose to join the army?"
Actually, this is a rather private issue.
When he asked the question, Top had imagined many possible scenarios, such as having something difficult to say, or other rather whimsical responses.
However, Sofia seems to be a little different:
"Because if I join the army, I can have enough to eat."
"Ok?"
Under Topna's astonished gaze, Corporal Sophia scratched the back of her head sheepishly:
“I was starving and didn’t want to cause trouble for others. When the war started, the country was recruiting soldiers, and someone told me that I could get enough to eat if I joined the army, so I came.”
The simple reason made Top's eyes widen. She seemed to want to say something, but in the silence, the only question that seemed to escape her lips was:
"Which colony are you from?"
"Mahar."
She replied, her smile still devoid of any gloom:
"I finally graduated from school and was supposed to be assigned to Ms. Sima's army, but the people at school said I had talent and thought I could be useful on Earth, so they sent me to Squadron 441."
At this point, she scratched her head sheepishly.
"However, I don't think I have any talent. In fact, my grades in school were just average. I was able to become a communications officer thanks to you, Lieutenant. It would be great if I could actually make a difference."
At that moment, Top felt as if the sound was incredibly distant.
The once coherent monologues sounded fragmented and disjointed to her ears.
