She landed lightly on the ground, still shaken.
The sprite's magic was indeed swift and cunning, appearing without warning and possessing considerable power.
Her circuit vision couldn't even keep up with Kreacher's casting speed at first.
“Excellent, Kreacher, that’s it!” Vera’s voice trembled with a hint of excited excitement. “Keep it up!”
Inside the training room, lights began to flash continuously.
Sleeping spells, obstacle spells, and even some less-than-friendly minor curses recorded in the Black family books kept shooting out from Kreacher's fingertips.
At first, it was a little hesitant, but after Vera accurately blocked and dodged the attacks time and time again, and even occasionally used its enhanced body to withstand the attacks and "retaliate", the little elf gradually got into the game.
Its attacks became faster and faster, and the angles became more and more bizarre, often attacking from unexpected blind spots.
Vera was forced to use her existing abilities to the fullest extent, while her brain worked at lightning speed to anticipate and counter each attack.
Sweat soaked through her training robe, and her rapid breathing could be clearly heard in the room.
Magic was being consumed at a rapid pace, and the mind was under immense tension. Every dodge and counterattack felt like dancing on a knife's edge.
This real, intense confrontation is far more challenging than practicing with dummies. She must be constantly vigilant, calculating, and reacting, transforming theoretical abilities into instincts in real combat.
She grew increasingly excited, and even the hand holding the wand trembled slightly.
She didn't know how much time had passed, until Vera felt her magic power was about to run out and her limbs felt as heavy as lead. Then she suddenly leaped backward and raised her hand to make a stop gesture.
"That's enough, Kreacher. That's enough for today."
Kreacher immediately stopped what he was doing, appearing beside her with a snap, holding a clean, soft towel and a glass of water, his face filled with worry and lingering fear.
"Miss! Are you alright? Did Kreacher use too much force? Kreacher is a bad elf..."
“No, Kreacher, you did a great job.” Vera took the towel and water, her voice hoarse with exhaustion but filled with genuine appreciation. “You’ve helped me a lot, thank you.”
Kreacher was so excited to receive his master's affirmation and gratitude that his ears perked up, and all his unease was instantly replaced by a great sense of honor.
“It is my honor to help Miss Kreacher!” It bowed deeply, almost touching its head to the ground.
Vera sat back in her wheelchair, slowly finished her water, and felt the strength gradually returning to her body.
The unicorn's blessing is quietly taking effect, accelerating her recovery.
She looked out the window; it was completely dark, and the city lights in the distance resembled stars on the ground.
The physical exhaustion dispelled the sentimental emptiness that arose from parting, replacing it with a sense of fulfillment and a clear purpose.
The holiday was long, and she certainly had a lot to do.
Becoming stronger is the foundation for accomplishing everything.
“Same time tomorrow, Kreacher.” Vera pushed the wheelchair, which had been instantly repaired by the fairy, out of the training room. “Let’s continue.”
“Yes, Miss!” Kreacher replied respectfully from behind her, his voice unusually energetic.
Vera smiled silently in the darkness.
She could tell that over the years, Kreacher had been lonely, guarding this old house alone and searching for Regulus's orphan all by himself.
Even after it found itself again, the situation didn't change much; at most, it just had someone to look forward to coming home.
Given that in the original story, Sirius's mistreatment of Kreacher led to Kreacher's betrayal, which ultimately resulted in Sirius's own death, the story is flawed.
Vera felt she should learn from her mistakes, not only by being much nicer to Kreacher, but also by wanting the elves who were loyal to House Black this generation to regain their rightful value.
Only in this way can we prevent potential betrayal in the future.
Back in her bedroom, Vera first took a shower. Once she had recovered most of her strength, she took out a magic scroll from a hidden compartment in her wheelchair and slowly spread it out on the table.
As the soft light shifts, the scene of the habitat unfolds before your eyes.
Hermella in the scroll seemed to sense her arrival, tilting her head back and emitting a soft, sparkling whine towards the "sky".
Vera smiled and gently touched the surface of the scroll with her fingertips. As a familiar, slight suction came, and after a brief dizziness, she found herself on the soft grass of her habitat.
The warm, humid air, carrying the scent of grass and earth, was a stark contrast to the gloomy air at 12 Grimmauld Place.
"Hemora," she called softly.
The little dragon immediately ran over happily. It had grown quite a bit, and its size was now larger than a small pony. The ground trembled slightly as it ran.
It nuzzled Vera affectionately with its huge head, so hard that she almost lost her balance.
Vera smiled and hugged its rough, warm scales, feeling the joy and longing it conveyed through their spiritual connection.
"Alright, alright, here I am, aren't I?" She stroked Hemera's neck, and the little dragon purred contentedly, its breath ruffling her silver hair.
She maneuvered the wheelchair and led Hermella on a stroll through the habitat.
First, they checked its favorite lakeside hunting grounds, then looked to see if the toys Hagrid had brought were intact, and then went to the storage area to check if there was enough food.
Then they arrived at the enormous lair that had been prepared for Hermera.
Little Dragon skillfully curled up inside, letting out a satisfied sigh. His golden eyes stared unblinkingly at Vera, as if urging her to rest as well.
Vera took a book out of the side pocket of her wheelchair. It wasn't a magic book, just an ordinary Muggle novel that Hermione had recommended to her.
She nestled against Hemera's warm side, reading quietly in the soft glow of the magical light source near the lair.
With her breath accompanying her, Hermella's breathing gradually became steady and long, carrying regular warmth, like a large heater.
The surroundings were filled with the familiar fragrance of grass and trees and a reassuring silence, with only the occasional faint sound of wind coming from the distant woods.
Soon, as the words on the book gradually blurred, Vera tilted her head, her long silver-gray hair spreading out, and rested her head on Hemera's still soft belly, falling into a deep sleep.
Her breathing was shallow, and the corners of her mouth unconsciously curved slightly, revealing a truly relaxed and peaceful smile.
Outside the cave, the sky above the habitat still faithfully mimics the day and night cycle of the outside world.
As time passed, the starlight in the sky dimmed, and the first rays of dawn appeared. Soft light gradually fell upon the man and the dragon, creating a warm and tranquil atmosphere.
Vera was not awakened until much later by the warm, wet touch on her face.
She opened her eyes and saw Hermella carefully licking her cheek with her rough tongue, her dragon-like vertical pupils filled with affection.
A new day begins.
Vera snapped out of her daze, patted Hermera's head, and smiled, saying, "Good morning, little one."
Chapter 136 Fire Dragon and Cerberus
Vera spent the first morning of her holiday with Hermella inside the scroll.
After a quick breakfast, she watched as Xiaolong happily splashed around by the lake, chasing the small fish she had deliberately released into it, creating large sprays of water.
Sunlight streamed through the simulated sky of the habitat, bathing everything in a warm, golden glow.
Only when she felt it was getting late did she bid farewell to the reluctant Hermella, touch the edge of the scroll, and return to the quiet bedroom at number 12 Grimmauld Place.
My body is slightly sore from last night's intense training and this morning's relaxation, but my spirits are unusually high.
The unicorn's blessing continued to work, and the warm, sun-drenched feeling was enough to lift one's spirits.
She pushed her wheelchair to the desk, spread out the parchment, and picked up a quill pen.
It's time to write to Harley and Hermione.
Although she already knew that Harley would most likely not receive any letters during the summer vacation that year.
According to the original storyline, the Ministry of Magic is about to introduce a new "Muggle Protection Act," which will search for dark magical items that may harm Muggles.
Because of this regulation, Lucius Malfoy felt that many things in his house might be searched by the Ministry of Magic, so he planned to move them quietly.
One of the seemingly ordinary diaries is the key to the main storyline of the locked room mystery in the second year.
Lucius originally envisioned using the diary to harm Harley, or at the very least, stirring up trouble at Hogwarts and then taking the opportunity to bring Dumbledore down.
However, his plan was overheard by Dobby, the little elf in the house.
Because he admired Harley, Dobby cut off all the letters he wrote to Harley in order to protect her.
It wanted Harley to think she had been abandoned by everyone in the wizarding world, so that she would give up on going to the dangerous Hogwarts.
The idea was simple, but the result was also obvious: Harley couldn't possibly give up everything in the wizarding world.
So Vera will still write letters; it's a promise.
At worst, I can make a backup and give it back to Harley when I have time.
After she finished writing the letter, she asked the two owls in the house to deliver it, and then turned her attention back to her own affairs.
The holiday is long, and besides studying, training, and taking care of Hemera, there's also... Luwei.
Hagrid did want to keep Fluffy by his side, so after completing the Philosopher's Stone mission, he temporarily kept Fluffy in the Forbidden Forest.
But it was clear that Dumbledore would not allow a dangerous and foreign three-headed dog to be kept in the Forbidden Forest, a place with sensitive rights and responsibilities.
Even if he agreed, the centaurs, who have always considered themselves the guardians of the Forbidden Forest, would not.
So, Lu Wei will be sent back to Greece this summer.
But this was not the outcome Vera wanted.
She had promised Luwei a better home; the habitat in the scroll was vast and safe, far more suitable for it than unfamiliar Greece.
However, since the decision was made by Dumbledore, it wasn't convenient for her to directly chase after them or try to persuade them to hand over Fulwe to her.
Fortunately, she can locate Lou Williams' position at any time thanks to the mental connection she has with him.
Once she's certain that Luwei has been sent to Greece, she can go there and bring it back after the wizard who sent it away leaves.
Even if Dumbledore became aware of it afterward, he couldn't do anything about it unless he caught her in the act.
Over the next few days, Vera's life gradually settled into a busy yet regular rhythm.
During the day, she would practice sparring with Kreacher in the training room.
The little elf, initially timid, gradually became more serious after being inspired by Vera's progress and attitude.
Whenever he had free time, Kreacher would even search through the Black family’s ancient collection of obscure magic spells to test her abilities.
Although each practice session only lasts for half an hour, afterwards she spends time reviewing and practicing on her own.
However, thanks to Kreacher's help, Vera's combat awareness, physical reaction speed, magic control, and spell usage improved at a visible rate, and her ability to combine and utilize the powers of the three magical creatures became increasingly proficient.
After her lunch break, she would usually go to the Blake family's study to look at and study some of their books.
While some of the books are filled with the arrogance of purebloods and contain many dark magic tomes, they also contain genuinely profound magical knowledge.
She absorbed it voraciously, and the next day she would combine it with her own magic circuits and ancient magic to understand and experiment with it.
When night falls, it is Hermella's time.
The little dragon is growing at an astonishing rate; it has already learned to breathe fire, and the defensive power of its scales is increasing day by day.
With its help, Vera is also constantly familiarizing herself with and improving her ability to harden her scales, and she even tries to guide Hermera to use dragon flames to assist her in her practice.
But most of the time, she just plays with it, sometimes with Kreacher when he's free.
When the little elf first saw the fire dragon, it was so frightened that it dared not even walk, but with Vera's help, it gradually accepted Hermella's existence.
But he still stubbornly refused to get close to it, and every time he fed it, he would try to stand far away, often muttering things like "keep a safe distance".
The holiday was even better than she had imagined. The only thing that Vera was not entirely satisfied with was the magic potion she took every day before bed.
In addition, as summer vacation gradually came to an end, she soon received a reply to her letter to Hermione.
In her letter, Hermione shared her summer experiences, including family trips, her reading list, and her study plans for the next school year.
The letter was written in a very strong tone; Vera could almost hear her excited chatter in her ear through the letter.
But the letter sent to No. 4, Privet Road, seemed to have sunk without a trace.
A week passed, then two weeks, and Harley didn't send a single word.
It was another morning. Vera put down her quill, carefully sealed the two letters as usual, and summoned the owl.
She sighed softly as she watched them flutter their wings and disappear into the gray London sky.
Even though he knew why Harley hadn't replied, this one-sided silence still felt like a stone was pressing on his heart.
She could even picture Harley waiting day after day for the owl in that little upstairs room in the Dursleys' house, which used to be used for storing odds and ends, only to be disappointed each time.
She was all too familiar with that feeling of loneliness and panic, of being forgotten by the whole world.
Perhaps... she could find an opportunity to go to Privet Road herself and take a look?
Even just confirming Harley's safety, or finding a way to bypass Dobby's interception and send her something in, would be helpful.
