"What?!" Harley and Hermione exclaimed in unison.
Harley gasped, instinctively turning to look at Hagrid, who was limping in. Her eyes immediately welled up with tears: "You just said you were only scratched by a branch!"
Hagrid froze, looking at Vera with a hint of helplessness: "Why did you just blurt that out?"
“You can’t hide it from them,” Vera said calmly. “You know their personalities.”
Besides, she still needs Harley and Hermione to persuade Hagrid to entrust the little dragon to her care.
How can we not make them realize the seriousness of the problem?
Hermione's face turned pale: "Who? Who would know Hemera is here?"
Vera didn't answer directly, but looked at Hagrid: "Did you see the attackers?"
Hagrid shook his head, his large fingers twisting nervously together: "It was too dark. I only saw a shadowy figure... He was running very fast, I couldn't catch him."
"Could it be Malfoy?" Hermione asked cautiously, thinking of what happened that day.
“No, that guy isn’t capable of hurting Hagrid.” Vera shook her head. “But whoever it is, they’ve clearly got their eyes on Hermera.”
At this moment, Harley stepped forward and helped Hagrid to a stool in the room, her eyes full of worry: "Hagrid, are you sure you're alright? Should we go to the school clinic?"
Hagrid waved his hand, forcing a smile: "No need, no need, this little injury is nothing. The centaur has already taken care of it for me."
Seeing that he was indeed in good condition, and had even managed to repair the window just now, Harley was slightly relieved.
Hagrid was her guide in the magical world and had always taken good care of her. Logically and emotionally, she didn't want to see Hagrid suffer.
“In that case,” she said as soon as she sat down, “can Hermera be sent to the place Vera mentioned, given her current condition?”
As soon as he finished speaking, Hagrid's expression, which had been so strong just moments before, changed slightly.
Vera glanced at him and nodded: "No problem, Hagrid is taking good care of it, and it has now passed the most vulnerable stage."
Harley lowered her eyes and pondered for a while, then turned to Hagrid: "Send it there, Hagrid."
"But...but I haven't..." Hagrid wanted to try again, but seeing the equally heavy expressions on the faces of the other children, he hesitated and lowered his head. "Are we sending Hemera away so soon?"
He hadn't even had a chance to see it learn to fly yet.
“Hagrid,” Vera said sternly, “last night’s events have proven that this place is no longer safe. Do you want Hermella to be stolen?”
“Of course not!” Hagrid exclaimed excitedly, then lowered his head dejectedly. “But…”
Vera pushed her wheelchair closer to him: "You can come see it anytime, I promise."
“We have to do this for Hemera’s safety,” Harley said softly. “Besides, I don’t want you to get hurt again.”
Hermione nodded: "Besides, if the school finds out you're raising a dragon, you'll be in big trouble."
Under the pressure of this series of reasons and the unavoidable reality, Hagrid sighed and finally nodded reluctantly:
“Alright…you’re right, it’s all for Hemera’s safety…”
“And yourself,” Harley added from the side.
Hagrid looked at her gratefully, then exaggeratedly wiped away a tear: "Then...then at least let me feed it one more time, okay?"
Vera, of course, had no objections and gently handed Hermella to him.
Little Dragon seemed to sense that parting was imminent, and affectionately rubbed against Hagrid's rough fingers, letting out a soft whimper.
Hagrid carefully fed it a special mixture of chicken blood and brandy with a spoon, whispering instructions as he did so:
"Be a good boy and listen to Vera... Uncle Hagrid will come to see you often..."
Hermel tilted her head, as if she understood, and gently licked Hagrid's fingers.
"My dear child..." Hagrid sobbed, on the verge of tears.
Vera took a magic scroll from the bottom of her wheelchair: "Ready?"
Hagrid nodded, his eyes welling up with tears: "Go, little one..."
Hmm... there's no need to make it sound like a life-or-death separation, is there?
Vera gently unrolled the scroll, and the ancient parchment immediately began to glow.
She carefully placed Hermella on the scroll, and the little dragon curiously poked at the paper with its claws.
“Don’t be afraid,” Vera reassured softly, “it will be over soon.”
With a soft flash of light, Hemera's figure gradually became transparent and eventually disappeared completely into the scroll.
"Where...where did it go?" Hagrid's eyes widened, his voice trembling.
Vera smiled and showed him the scroll: "Look here."
Within the scroll's miniature world, Hermella stood on the grass, curiously looking around.
It seems quite content with its new environment and has already begun exploring it.
“Inside here…” Hermione’s eyes widened.
“The space, enchanted with the Seamless Expansion Spell, is large enough and secluded enough,” Vera explained softly. “Hemera can grow up safely there, and…”
She paused, then added, "We can go see it anytime."
She laid the scroll flat on the table, and with a light touch of her finger, the miniature world inside the scroll was immediately revealed to everyone.
"Now, would you like to go inside and take a look?" Vera asked with a smile.
The three nodded hastily.
She then gestured for them to place their fingers on the scroll, just like she had. With a slight suction, the four of them were pulled into the scroll together.
The next second, they were standing on the grass of their habitat.
Hermella was happily rolling around on the grass when she saw them appear and immediately pounced on them.
Hagrid quickly picked up the little dragon, looking around in astonishment: "Incredible... absolutely incredible!"
"This is amazing..." Hermione looked around in amazement, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "So the Unseen Extension Charm can have such ingenious applications!"
Harley ran around excitedly, touching the grass and the leaves: "Vera, this is amazing! How did you find this place?"
“It was a chance discovery,” Vera said vaguely. “It’s safe here. Nobody can find it.”
Hagrid nodded excitedly: "This is perfect for Hemera! Look how much she loves it here!"
The little dragon did seem very happy. Hagrid had put it down, and it was flapping its wings and running on the grass, occasionally spitting out a few sparks.
“Let’s go,” Vera said, picking it up and placing it on her lap, then pushing the wheelchair forward. “I’ve prepared a nest for it.”
She led them down the mountain, where they could see a semi-circular stone cave from a distance, its interior lined with soft hay and feathers.
“This place is big enough to accommodate its adult size,” Vera explained. “I’ve cast fireproof and reinforcement spells around it, and…”
She pointed to a grove of trees not far away, “There’s plenty of food there. I’ve let some small animals roam freely, enough for it to practice hunting.”
Hagrid's eyes lit up: "It's perfect! Much better than I imagined!"
Hemera couldn't wait to jump off her lap and stumble around exploring her new home.
It nudged the haystack with its nose and then lay down on it contentedly.
“It seems quite satisfied,” Harley said with a smile.
Hagrid finally smiled with relief: "Yes, this place is indeed more suitable for it than my cottage."
He crouched down and gently stroked the little dragon's back: "You'll be fine here, little guy."
Hermera turned her head, affectionately rubbed Hagrid's fingers, and then suddenly lunged at Vera, nearly knocking her over.
"Hey!" Vera laughed as she caught it. "Don't get so excited."
The little dragon wriggled in her arms, making joyful noises, and Vera could feel its joy and gratitude transmitted through the mental link.
“It knows this is what you prepared for it,” Hagrid said softly, tears welling in his eyes. “Thank you, Vera.”
Vera shook her head: "You're welcome. It's my responsibility too."
It was at this moment that a string of words finally floated up in front of her retina again.
Vera paused for a moment, then quickly came to her senses, and her gaze toward the little dragon became even warmer.
Only at this point did Hermella truly acknowledge her.
They lingered a while longer by the dragon's nest, watching Hemera gradually adapt to her new environment.
When Xiaolong finally curled up and fell asleep on the haystack, the four of them quietly left.
With another slight wave of dizziness, they returned to Hagrid's cabin.
Vera carefully rolled up the scroll and placed it in a hidden compartment at the bottom of the wheelchair.
“Remember,” she looked at the three of them seriously, “this secret is known only to the four of us.”
Hagrid nodded vigorously: "I swear!"
Harley and Hermione nodded solemnly in agreement.
“Well then,” Vera smiled slightly, “Hagrid, if you want to come see it in the future, just send a message in advance.”
Hagrid wiped his eyes gratefully: "Thank you, Vera... thank you so much."
Harley suddenly remembered something: "By the way, Hagrid, that attacker from last night... do you think he'll come back?"
Hagrid's expression turned serious: "I don't know... but since Hemera is no longer here, his coming here would be pointless."
“That’s right,” Vera gently placed her hand on hers. “Hemera is safe now, he won’t be able to find her.”
“We should go back,” she said, glancing out the window. “It’s almost time for class.”
The three then bid farewell to Hagrid and returned to the castle along the path.
Throughout the journey, Hermione kept asking about the scroll, and Vera answered her in as much detail as possible.
"So, that senior didn't leave any clues about his identity?" Hermione asked curiously.
Vera shook her head: "No. But I guess he must be a very remarkable wizard."
"Is he even more powerful than Dumbledore?" Harley interrupted.
Vera chuckled softly: "In some ways, perhaps."
Although Dumbledore is strong, he is not yet a complete master of all spells.
Hermione nodded thoughtfully: "The Unseen Extension Charm can achieve this level... it's unheard of."
“Oh, right,” Harley suddenly remembered something, “Vera, you said we can go see Hermella anytime…how exactly does that work?”
Vera took the scroll out of her pocket: "It's very simple. Just touch the surface of the scroll to enter, and it's the same when you come out."
"That's so convenient!" Harley exclaimed excitedly. "Then we can go see it after class today?"
Vera nodded: "Of course, but it has its life, and we have ours, Harley, don't get carried away."
She worried that Harley would become as obsessed with seeing Hermella as she was with the Mirror of Erised.
Harley pouted: "I wouldn't! I just...want to make sure it adapts to the new environment."
Hermione chuckled to herself, "That sounds like an excuse."
The three of them chatted and laughed as they entered the castle, and Vera's mood lightened considerably.
At least for now, Hemera is safe.
As for Voldemort…
A hint of mockery flashed in Vera's eyes.
Given Voldemort's current physical condition, he certainly won't give up so easily and will continue to try to obtain dragon blood.
But at the very least, he could no longer find Hermella.
Let him do his futile work in peace.
For her, this is actually more important—
Vera squinted as a string of words flashed across her retina.
Hemera
