At lunchtime, the Great Hall was bustling with activity. When Vera pushed her wheelchair to the Gryffindor table, Harry and Hermione had not yet arrived.

I guess I ate too many rock-skin cakes at Haige's place and lost my appetite for the cafeteria.

Looking at the dazzling array of food before her, and thinking of Hagrid's rock bread, which, according to the original story, could knock out teeth, Vera's mood improved somewhat, a rare occurrence.

However, this good mood vanished almost entirely when they saw the Malfoy trio walking into the Great Hall with gloomy faces in the distance.

Malfoy's face was frighteningly pale, with heavy dark circles under his eyes, clearly indicating that he had been severely punished the previous night.

As soon as he entered, he glared fiercely at the Gryffindor table. When he saw Vera, a hint of resentment flashed in his gray eyes, but more than that, a vague fear was revealed.

That's true. After all, she hit him several times last night. Even the most idiotic person who never learns from a mistake would have to consider the consequences of continuing to provoke her.

Vera calmly cut her steak without even lifting her eyelids.

As for the fact that the Malfoy trio had been secretly watching her several times, she couldn't be bothered to care.

Ron, who was sitting diagonally opposite her, noticed this and, along with a few first-year students, glared back at the Slytherins across the table.

The silent war only ended when Malfoy and his men were stared at so intently that they dared not look in their direction.

Vera was about to laugh at their protective, cub-like behavior when she heard the Weasley twins' voices beside her—

"Good afternoon!" Fred greeted her from two seats away.

George sat down as well and said, "We heard about the amazing performance last night. They were put in solitary confinement. More than one person lost 20 points and was also sentenced to a month of solitary confinement."

Vera calmly put down her knife and fork: "I see. No wonder Professor Snape didn't look too good today."

As she spoke, she turned to look at the podium and, sure enough, saw Professor Snape sitting in the teachers' seat with a gloomy face, occasionally casting sharp glances at the Gryffindor table.

George lowered his voice: "But what we're more curious about is... how did you do that?"

Vera raised an eyebrow: "What? How do you do that?"

“It’s said that Malfoy insists you were there too,” Fred winked, “but Filch only caught the three of them.”

Vera picked up her orange juice, took a sip, and smiled slightly. "Who knows? Maybe Malfoy is just making excuses for getting caught while out at night."

Fred and George exchanged a glance and simultaneously gave each other knowing smiles.

“Anyway,” Fred winked, “you guys did a great job!”

Vera remained silent, only raising her eyebrows slightly as she looked around. She noticed that several first-year students, led by Ron, were giving her friendly looks.

It's clear that this matter has spread again within small circles.

While one might question Ron's ability to keep his mouth shut, there's no doubt that the lions are easily swayed by his words.

Not only did they break the rules without getting caught, but more importantly, they also caused their rival Slytherin to suffer a setback.

This incident actually earned Vera, a freshman who was still quite questioned a week before the start of the semester, a lot of goodwill among her fellow freshmen.

It was a pleasant surprise.

Harry burst in just as lunchtime in the Great Hall was drawing to a close. She ran to the Gryffindor table, her cheeks flushed from running.

"Vera! Guess what Hagrid told me?"

Hermione followed behind, panting, and complained, "Harley! You're running too fast!"

Vera put down her knife and fork, and gently wiped her mouth. "Let me guess... could it be that little package he took away, the one you suspected before?"

Harley's eyes widened even more: "How did you know?"

She lowered her voice and leaned closer mysteriously, "I saw that Hagrid specifically cut out a news article that said—"

"Harley!" Hermione interrupted her quickly, "This isn't the place to talk about this!"

Didn't they see that there were so many people watching them?

Vera smiled and shook her head, saying softly, "You ate quite a bit at Hagrid's place, didn't you?"

For a moment, Harley and Hermione's expressions became subtle.

Harley rubbed her stomach and muttered softly, "Hagrid's rock crust almost knocked my teeth out..."

"Don't even mention it. I suspect it wasn't food at all, but some kind of building material." Hermione looked even more shaken.

Vera couldn't help but chuckle, pushing her wheelchair back a little: "So, do you still want to have a normal lunch now?"

Harley looked at the dwindling amount of food left on the long table and shook her head. "Never mind, I have to go to Quidditch training this afternoon. Eating too much is not good for me."

“Alright,” Vera said without pressuring, “Let’s go first, we’ll talk about it when we get back to the dorm.”

Chapter 46 Gringotts' Daily Life Gets Breaknecked (First Update)

The three left the auditorium and walked through the bustling corridor.

Along the way, Harley tried to speak several times, but Hermione stopped her with a stern look.

Only after returning to the quiet Gryffindor Tower and confirming that no one else was in the common room did Hermione release her hand from Harry's shoulder.

“You can speak now,” Hermione sighed, “but keep your voice down.”

Harley lowered her voice impatiently: "We just saw a news clipping from the Daily Prophet on Hagrid's desk about the Gringotts burglary, and the date is the day we first met!"

"Your birthday?" Vera asked after pretending to think for a moment.

“That’s right,” Harley nodded. “The reports say that the underground vault that was searched by the intruders was actually emptied earlier that day.”

Before that, Hagrid did take that dirty little bag with him, so... I'm almost certain that the little bag is what the intruder was looking for!

Hagrid once told me that Gringotts was the safest place in the world if I wanted to hide something—besides Hogwarts.

Harley's eyes sparkled; she was clearly very pleased with her reasoning.

“So, the thing that the three-headed dog was guarding was the small bag Hagrid brought out of Gringotts,” Hermione said, her brow furrowed as she paced back and forth in front of the fireplace. “But what could be inside?”

“I don’t know,” Harley shrugged. “When we were at Gringotts, Hagrid wouldn’t say what it was, only that it was an official task assigned by Dumbledore. We couldn’t reveal the details of last night’s outing either, so we couldn’t get any information out of him.”

If she hadn't encountered Cerberus this time, she would never have connected the Gringotts theft with the small bag Hagrid took and the contents under the trapdoor.

Seeing their troubled expressions, Vera pondered for a moment. She wasn't confident that she could completely tame the three-headed dog yet. In any case, this was a test set by Dumbledore, and she could take it anytime throughout the school year.

Since that's the case, we might as well play it safe and develop our strength for a while first.

“We don’t have enough clues right now, so we can only keep a limited eye on this matter,” she said slowly. “If we find anything unusual later, we can report it to the professors then.”

Hermione was the first to agree with her suggestion: "That's right, Hogwarts is the safest place in the world anyway, there's definitely no problem!"

Harley was still a little hesitant, but just then, the door to the common room was pushed open, and Oliver Wood, the captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch team, poked his head in: "Harley! Time to practice!"

She jolted awake and jumped to her feet: "Oh! I almost forgot!"

Harley hastily grabbed the broom that was lying to the side, hesitated, then looked back at Vera and Hermione, before turning to Wood and asking, "Can they come and watch me train?"

“This…” Wood frowned. “Harley, you’re training as our academy’s secret weapon right now. Your friends can know you’ve made the team, but if they want to watch you train…”

His hesitation was quite obvious.

Harley slumped her shoulders in disappointment, but quickly perked up: "Okay, I'll go practice then!"

She waved to Vera and Hermione, then followed Wood out of the lounge.

Hermione stared thoughtfully at the closed door: "Quidditch training... is it really that important?"

Vera gently pushed her wheelchair to the window, from where she could see the Quidditch pitch in the distance: "Gryffindor hasn't won the House Cup for several years in a row. Now Harley is their secret weapon, so we have to be careful."

Hermione walked over to her, looking worriedly at the stadium in the distance: "I hope Harley can adjust... She just rode a broom for the first time a few days ago."

“She’s very talented,” Vera said softly, her gaze following Harley, who was gradually turning into a small black dot in the distance. “She’ll be alright.”

Hermione turned her head to look at Vera's profile and gently placed her hand on hers: "Don't worry, magic is so amazing, in the future... you will definitely have the chance to fly too."

Vera paused, realizing that she seemed to have misunderstood something, but she didn't explain. She simply nodded gently, "Yes, thank you, Hermione."

"I didn't do anything." Hermione's face flushed slightly, and she quickly let go of her hand. "I...I'm going to the library to do my homework! Do you want to come with me?"

“Okay.” Vera pushed her wheelchair to catch up with Hermione, and the two headed to the library together.

The library was quiet and warm, with sunlight streaming through the tall stained-glass windows and casting dappled shadows on the old wooden tables.

Hermione found a corner by the window and sat down, pulling a thick stack of books from her bag: "I'm going to start writing my Potions paper. What about you?"

Vera took out textbooks and parchment from the extended space of her wheelchair: "I'll preview some other material."

The two quietly began their respective tasks, with only the occasional scratching sound of quills writing on parchment.

Vera was writing her paper while her mind was distracted by last night's battle.

Although she already knows that combat is the fastest way to gain experience, her current goal is to participate in more actual combat within a safe range.

However, Hogwarts offers very limited opportunities for this. Aside from Malfoy, who is a recurring source of experience, the only real-world opportunity this year is the Philosopher's Stone Battle at the end of the year.

Lockhart's Duel Club next year would be a good opportunity, but...

“Vera?” Hermione’s voice brought her back to reality. “Your quill pen has been idle for a while.”

Vera then noticed that her ink had already smudged a small patch on the parchment: "Sorry, I was distracted."

Hermione leaned closer curiously: "Are you still thinking about that little bag Harry mentioned?"

"I guess so," Vera replied softly, snapping out of her reverie.

“Why don’t you come with us to Hagrid’s next time?” Hermione suggested in a low voice. “Harley and I can take turns pushing you there.”

As she spoke, she observed Vera's expression with some hesitation: "Or... do you have some other concerns?"

Vera shook her head gently, her silver-gray hair gleaming softly in the sunlight: "It's nothing. I'll come with you next time if I have the chance."

Although from his previous interactions with Hagrid, the gamekeeper seemed quite wary of his lineage as a Black family descendant, he knew he would have to deal with him sooner or later, given Hagrid's relationship with him.

Now that she has chosen to enter Gryffindor, there is no need for her to shrink back on such a trivial matter.

Hermione flashed a bright smile, about to say something, when Mrs. Pince suddenly appeared at their table, staring at them sternly, as if they would be kicked out if they said another word.

The two quickly lowered their heads and got back to their own work.

Chapter 47 Public Apology (Second Update)

Time slipped away quietly as the pen flowed through the paper, and by the time the afterglow of the setting sun painted the windowpanes red, most of the people in the library had already left.

“We should head back.” Hermione said, packing her books. “Harley’s training should be almost over.”

Vera nodded, rolled up the parchment, put it in the side pocket of her wheelchair, and left the library with her.

As soon as I got back to the dorm, I saw Harley dragging a broom, sweating profusely, but with an excited smile on her face.

“The training was so intense! Wood is a devil coach!” she excitedly described the training sessions to them. “We practiced all sorts of techniques for dodging the ball, and high-speed dives… and kept saying, ‘Porter, try again!’”

Vera watched as she vividly imitated Wood's tone, poured a glass of water and handed it to her: "But you still persevered."

And she looks very happy.

Harley took the water glass, then scratched her head a little shyly, "It really does feel great to fly freely on a broom."

“However, I think you should take a shower first.” Hermione wrinkled her nose as she looked at her, who was covered in sweat.

Harley then noticed the smell of sweat on her body and smiled sheepishly, "I'll go right now!"

She grabbed her change of clothes and rushed into the bathroom, leaving Vera and Hermione exchanging a knowing smile.

“Speaking of which,” Vera said slowly, watching Harry rush inside, “we still have one thing to finish.”

"Is there anything else?" Hermione looked at her, somewhat puzzled.

Vera smiled without saying a word, and only spoke up after Harley came out of the shower: "Let's go, it's time to urge someone to fulfill the bet they made earlier."

"A bet?" Harley came out of the bathroom, drying her wet hair, and looked at them blankly.

Vera pushed her wheelchair toward the door, her silver-gray hair gleaming softly in the setting sun: "Don't forget, Malfoy owes us an apology."

Hermione slammed her textbook shut, her brown eyes widening in surprise: "Wait a minute, Vera, you really intend to—"

“Of course.” Vera’s lips curled up slightly. “Since he lost the duel, he should keep his promise.”

She didn't bring it up at noon because Harley and Hermione hadn't returned yet.

This kind of thing is only interesting when everyone is there.

Harley's green eyes lit up immediately, and she eagerly asked, "Shall we go now?"

"Dry your hair first," Vera said, shaking her head and smiling as she looked at Vera's still-drip-water-laden black hair.

"Oh..." Harley scratched her wet hair a little embarrassedly and quickly dried it a few more times with a towel.
