Let go of that monster girl!
Page 121
The efficiency was surprisingly high. In less than a day, the airship kept taking off and landing, and most of the cats were transported to the low hill.
Jimmy's long-held wish was fulfilled by Moran in less than a week.
"Baron, you're amazing, meow."
Flying is really scary!
The catgirls who had just disembarked from the airship all lay flat on the ground, on all fours, their tails trembling, their faces buried in their arms, too afraid to lift them.
"I'm flying, my legs are going weak, meow."
"Ground cat, it's ground cat, I'm never going up there again, cat."
"It's spinning... the ground is spinning..."
Cats were everywhere, some crouching, some lying down, and some huddled together. The open space on Dessert Hill was covered with fluffy cat ears and swaying cat tails, turning the whole place into a cat ranch.
The catgirls who had just come down were still very wary of their new environment. At the slightest sound, they would all turn to look over, carefully examining their new surroundings.
The mouse walked past a cat, and a dried radish suddenly fell from the box in its arms. The cat girl meowed and jumped up, arching its back.
Some cats lowered their bodies and hissed at the empty cans on the ground, scaring the rats carrying things around them so much that they hugged the boxes and went around them, not daring to get close.
The mischievous and timid cats were a real nuisance to the mice working on Dessert Hill. Whenever the mice were working, the cats would huddle together and follow behind, and as soon as the mice turned their heads, they would meow and run away.
To this, Morren could only shake his head with a helpless smile.
Jimmy scratched his cat ears awkwardly and said sheepishly:
"They need a little time to adjust. The cat will take care of them. Don't be angry, Baron."
"Don't worry, since I've decided to take in the cat, I've definitely made all the necessary preparations."
Molen wasn't angry at all, since this was entirely within his expectations.
There are so many kinds of monster girls in this world, but even those with similarly gentle temperaments rarely live together, and there is undoubtedly a reason for this.
People can easily bond over language barriers, but monster girls are truly different.
Cats are good, mice are good, but you can't simply expect them to get along well if you leave them alone.
Unlike mice, cats are very wild and lively, but also timid.
The most crucial point is that cats don't have the same habit of sticking together as mice; they are born without much discipline.
It's unlikely that the cats will obediently line up to get a wooden tag and then immediately start working.
Perhaps some well-behaved cats can manage, but considering that Molen doesn't want Häagen-Dazs for the time being, the remaining cats also need to be properly accommodated.
And this is exactly what Molen is good at.
Molen is not only a master horse trainer, but also a cat lover!
Before long, the mouse girls, carrying various supply boxes of different sizes, with their round ears peeking out from the sides of the boxes, were piled up shakily around the perimeter of the cat camp.
Some of the older cats came over to help the mouse girls carry the boxes. They were quick and efficient; one cat could carry two boxes for two mice.
The mouse girls cautiously stared at the remaining cat girls across the supply crates, neither making a move.
"The Baron said we shouldn't rush to find them, but let them get used to things first."
"Could you please help me divide these things, ladies? Thank you."
"No problem, it's really me who's causing you trouble, meow."
Molen had instructed the mice beforehand not to hand anything to the unfamiliar new cats rashly, as there was a chance of triggering the cats' hunting rhythm, which would trigger a triple attack with a hiss, and they would steal the things that were meant for them in the first place.
Cats are contradictory creatures, especially these easily frightened cats; it's not easy to handle their temper.
The cats huddled together, heads close together, peering into the large box, their little paws gripping the edge.
"Is it cat food, meow?"
"Catnip, meow?"
"It is said that some wicked foxes use catnip as a trap to lock cats in cages while they are purring and then sniff them."
The lid of the box was lifted, and a cat held a pale red mushroom-covered blanket high in the air. The soft fabric spread out in the air, emitting a faint mushroom fragrance.
The cat let out a high-pitched cheer.
The mice watched from a distance.
"Is it to keep them warm?"
"Why doesn't the Baron give them a large coat?"
The mice's doubts were immediately answered; the cats meowed and pulled the blanket over their heads.
Under the rats' questioning gaze, the cats quickly transformed into a large bunch of cat-ear-shaped fungal cat ghosts and cat mushrooms, wandering around the camp, bumping into each other and meowing.
The cats rolled around in the blankets with a great sense of security, and the ground of the entire camp was covered with pale red mushroom rolls, with a cat's tail sticking out and swishing back and forth underneath.
Another cat squeezed into the small box containing the blankets, shrinking inside with only its tail sticking out, moving around on the ground, bumping into the legs of other cats, and bumping into the tent, from which muffled meows could be heard.
The cats huddled together in a few tents, leaving the rest of the tents empty; not a single cat wanted to be alone.
"This is Cat Castle, meow!"
A small space and familiar companions make the cat feel at ease.
The cats, exhausted from their long journey, finally relaxed and enjoyed a moment of security. One by one, they closed their eyes, draped their tails over other cats, and purred softly as they all fell asleep, quite pathetically.
Molen didn't immediately set their schedule, because the cats would wake up on their own when the time came.
The wonderful aroma of food wafted from the edge of the campsite through the seams of the tents, and the warm breath gently brushed against the cats' noses.
The purring inside the tent stopped one by one, cat ears perked up first, and then one after another, furry heads poked out from the tent flap.
The cats had relaxed considerably, though they were still cautiously looking around.
They followed the pleasant smell towards the cafeteria.
The canteen was very simple: a wooden shed with a cook standing behind the stove, several helpers standing on small stools heating large pots and several small pots steaming. It was exactly the same as all the other camp canteens in the Dwarf Mountain Territory, even the dishes were exactly the same.
They watched as the rats, who had already started lining up, were scooped into bowls one spoonful at a time, and their mouths watered.
The cats then woke up from their daze, looked down at their dirty clothes, and touched their messy, tangled hair. Although they couldn't see their own faces, they could tell from the other cats with dirty faces that they must look quite pathetic.
It was just a huge pack of stray cats.
But the cats aren't really wild cats; they still have backbone.
Cats know that food costs money, but cats don't have any money.
The cook peeked out from behind the stove, her voice very gentle.
"This meal is on the Baron's treat, everyone please help yourselves."
The cats cheered and rushed over, but were quickly lined up by the militia rats who poked their butts with small sticks. Each cat obediently received a portion of porridge, a small stack of carrots, and a small spoonful of stewed meat.
There were too few tables and too many cats. The cats squatted on the ground eating with their bowls in hand. The moment they took the first bite of the porridge, tears streamed down their faces. They cried as they stuffed more food into their mouths, barely able to hold their spoons.
"So delicious, meow, so delicious, meow. What did the cats eat before, meow?"
"This is the first time someone has said that porridge is delicious."
The mouse girl next to her muttered softly.
Even just a month ago, the cat food was so rare that even the giant cargo rats wouldn't eat it. The cats have caught a lucky break.
The cats were eating the porridge when they started to have trouble eating. They chewed, their ears twitched, and their eyes darted around.
What will I do if I can't eat this delicious porridge anymore?
The mouse girl holding the spoon beside her said matter-of-factly:
"There's plenty of porridge, you can eat as much as you want. But if you want radishes or other things, you'll have to work."
Another mouse girl chimed in.
"The Baron also bought some catnip and put it in Jimmy's convenience store. It's limited, though."
Catnip!
The cats' spoons froze in mid-air, their faces showing surprise.
This is something that absolutely cannot be grown in a dark area. The cats haven't had catnip for years and have been dreaming about it!
Are we going to work?
The cats were in a dilemma.
But what kind of work can a cat do on a low hill?
Cats are weak, timid, and have little stamina; they can't farm, build, or mine.
The cats saw the mice digging a round hole, but when the cats tried to build something, all they built was a cat tree.
Cats are very skillful, but will there be anything in the hills that requires their skillful hands?
With these questions in mind, some of the cats returned to their small tents to huddle together, while others went to the large house called the Technical School that the Baron had arranged for them.
Amidst the trembling gazes of the cats, Fox Seventeen stood calmly in front of the podium, his brown fox tail swaying gently as he pasted a piece of paper with pretty little patterns onto the blackboard.
The piece of paper is decorated with delicate metal flowers, with a small, rounded fluorite fragment embedded in the center. The whole piece is only the size of a fingernail.
Fox Seventeen turned around and gave a gentle smile to the cats huddled together below the stage.
"Welcome, my lovely little kittens, to the Aishan Light Industry Training Class."
The cats huddled together in their seats, whispering amongst themselves.
"Is she that wicked fox cat?"
"It doesn't seem like a meow, let's take another look."
Fox Seventeen paid no attention, picked up a small hammer and a thin copper sheet, and began to demonstrate the basic techniques of metalworking.
The cats hesitated for a moment, then reached out their little paws, picked up the tools on the table, and began to bang on them.
In the past, this was a skill that many cats relied on for survival, so the cats mastered it very quickly.
In less than two meals, a beautiful little metallic flower bloomed on many of the cats' tables, with thin and smooth edges on the petals.
"The teacher is so kind, meow."
"It might be another fox cat."
The cats relaxed a little and whispered among themselves, but their little paws didn't stop moving.
-----------------
The cats adapted quickly, and these past few days, Jimmy has been busy taking care of all sorts of cat-related issues.
Cats understand cats' problems best.
A cat took the blanket to another cat's bed, so Jimmy, like the mice in the hills, marked the blanket.
Another cat hid the candy coupon it received in its mouth and let it dissolve. Jimmy then took it to the foreman, who exchanged the remains of the candy coupon, now a fluffy ball, for another one.
She also learned from Dwarf Mountain's method, letting the cats elect a leader for ten cats and a leader for a hundred cats, and then handing them over to a foreman rat from Dwarf Mountain to lead them.
Jimmy is in charge of the market; she'll eventually go back.
She did these things with great enthusiasm, as if a long-cherished dream was finally about to come true.
Under Jimmy's management, the cat camp gradually became more organized.
Familiar cats always make cats feel relaxed, and most of the cats in the cat kennel know or have heard of Jimmy.
"Jimmy, boss meow! Hello, Jimmy, boss meow!"
"Boss Morren, meow! Hello, Boss Morren, meow!"
After Morren gave his permission, Jimmy led the cats to build a cat tree in an open area on the east side of the camp. The cats liked the cat tree, so it wouldn't hurt for them to build one.
Of course, the cat climbing frame on the hill needs a foundation laid in advance, with the mice guiding the cats on how to dig holes and bury the pillars.
There are even candy coupons for building cat trees, and the cats are extremely enthusiastic, vying to move things.
Molen doesn't necessarily need the cats to be of any use right now; first, he just needs a reason to give the cats candy coupons.
The cat tree wasn't even finished yet, but some cats had already climbed onto the newly erected pillars, dangling their legs on the beams and meowing at the cats working below, just getting in the way.
It's so bright, so warm, and there's even a cat tree—this is the home cats dream of.
The cats looked at Jimmy with great admiration.
