"I respect the mighty warriors, Midgards!"
Thor let out a low growl, and silver-blue lightning spread throughout his body, producing a deep and powerful boom like a war drum, his muscles bulging in the lightning.
The two of them stomped their feet simultaneously, cracking the ground, and collided in the blink of an eye.
Rumbling--
A deafening roar echoed throughout the arena, and lightning of two colors streaked everywhere, leaving scorched earth and explosions in its wake.
This is one of the reasons why Odin didn't allow other Asgardians to watch the fight; he didn't want his people to get hurt by the aftershocks of Li Ai and Thor's duel.
Under the destruction of the strongest Avenger and the Asgardian prince, even the arena, made of the finest materials and protected by Odin's divine power, suffered minor damage. Smoke and dust filled the air, and a pungent, acrid smell permeated the entire arena, making it impossible to see the situation clearly with the naked eye.
"Who won?" Sif looked into the arena.
The smoke dissipated at that moment, revealing Li Ai, who had deactivated his transformation, and Thor, who had put down his warhammer, smiling at each other. They walked towards each other and shook hands firmly.
Chapter 187 Thor, Feeling Inferior
After a thoroughly enjoyable sparring match, Thor finally understood why Li Ai received such high praise from Odin.
In the final clash, Li Ai controlled her power with great precision, merely neutralizing Thor's attack, and then deactivated her transformation after pressing the tip of her sword against Thor's throat.
On the surface, the two ended in a draw, a result that left Saul completely convinced of his defeat.
“You are a very strong warrior, Midgard,” Thor said with a genuine smile.
“You too, Prince of Asgard.” Li Ai smiled knowingly.
The two released their hands, and Odin, who was in the audience, stood up. He clapped softly and praised them, saying:
"Young people, the future will ultimately belong to you."
After saying this, Odin took the lead and walked down from the audience, followed closely by Frigga, Sif, and the Warriors Three of Asgard.
Although Asgard is a feudal monarchy, its extremely martial spirit has diluted this aspect. Not to mention Odin and Thor, who would be fully armored and armed even when meeting in formal settings, even Sif and the Warriors Three would carry weapons when meeting Odin, which would be almost impossible in the feudal dynasties of Earth that Li Ai knew.
Perhaps Odin's confidence in his power was part of the reason? Li Ai thought, watching Odin and the others walk down from the audience.
"Sif, if possible, could you please take the guest to choose a dress?" Frigga said, looking at Li Ai's dress, which was a little dusty.
"We can't let our guests come to the banquet looking so travel-worn."
“Yes, Your Majesty Frigga,” Sif nodded in acknowledgment.
The Warriors Three, friends of Thor, also came forward. Volstagg, with his tank-like physique, let out a hearty laugh and said warmly:
"Welcome to Asgard, valiant Midgard warrior!"
"I hope to have the opportunity to spar with you," Hogan, dressed in black armor and with a composed demeanor, said.
“Besides the warriors, the women in Asgard are also exceptionally warm-hearted,” Fandral said with a smile.
“You should definitely take Fandral’s advice; he’s very popular with eligible women in Asgard,” Thor teased, punching the playboy in the chest.
“Let’s talk about the battle then.” Li Ai touched his nose and laughed. “For me, all the women of marriageable age in Asgard are too old.”
Asgardians have long lifespans; even commoners can live for thousands of years. Thor, who looks like a young man, is actually over a thousand years old.
“You’re right.” Fandall smiled and fell silent.
"By the way, do you know the son of Cole?" Thor suddenly asked, who was putting his arm around Volstagg's shoulder.
“Cole’s son?” Li Ai was taken aback. “You mean Phil Coleson from S.H.I.E.L.D.?”
“Yes, although he’s not as strong as you, he still showed great courage in the face of overwhelming power,” Thor nodded repeatedly.
“I’ve heard of his name, but I wouldn’t say I know him,” Li Ai replied.
The customs of Asgard differ from those of America. In Asgard, each person's surname comes from their father. If a son is born, 'Sen' is added to the father's name, and if a daughter is born, 'Stoyl' is added to the father's name.
Therefore, Agent Coulson's name would be misunderstood by Thor and others as 'Cole's son'.
“I see,” Thor replied.
"Ahem." Odin coughed twice, and everyone immediately fell silent, listening attentively to what the god-king had to say.
"Warriors of Midgard, after you have chosen your attire for the banquet, you may go to the first floor of the treasury to select a gift. There is nothing there for you to choose from," Odin said calmly.
"A treasure vault?" Li Ai asked curiously.
"The Great King of the Gods defeated many enemies during his conquest of the Nine Realms, some of whom were recovered by Asgard and eventually formed Odin's Treasury," Thor explained.
"But you can only go to the first floor, where the things are more commemorative."
"I see," Li Ai said in realization. He had only captured a witch; Odin would not allow him to enter the depths of the vault where the most precious treasures were kept.
"Have fun." Odin looked at Li Ai, thinking that the Ancient One was really lucky, then turned to Thor and said:
"Thor, come with me. I have something to tell you. Volstagg, Fandral, Hogan, the dwarves have run into some trouble recently. Go and deal with it."
"Yes, Your Majesty," the three warriors of Asgard replied in unison, then swiftly left the arena, while Odin and Frigga also took Thor away.
Li Ai and Sif were heading in another direction. After walking for a while, the two entered a palace where many Asgardian women in long robes were busy at work.
"I am acting on the orders of the King and Queen of the Gods to find a dress for my guest." Sif, clad in armor, stood out among the throng of beautiful women.
“Yes, Lady Sif.” An Asgardian woman in a purple robe nodded in response. She waved her hand, and two Asgardian maids came to Li Ai’s side and used measuring instruments to obtain the measurements.
After obtaining the required dimensions, an Asgardian maidservant approached a loom. They waved their hands, and a golden magic circle appeared on the loom, while another maidservant fed the fabric into the loom.
Li Ai watched as the piece of fabric was cut, sewn, and shaped in just a few breaths, transforming into a black and white dress, and exclaimed:
"A magic loom?"
The formal attire wasn't a long robe, but rather a combination of a shirt, trousers, and boots, so Li Ai wouldn't feel uncomfortable, and it wouldn't even affect her punching.
"This device was originally designed to enable soldiers to quickly produce uniforms," Sif explained.
Several Asgardian maids surrounded Li Ai and said softly, "Honorable guest, please allow us to help you change your clothes."
"No need, Midgard doesn't care about that now." Li Ai waved her hand in refusal, then grabbed the entire outfit and firmly refused.
"Just provide me with a room that is private enough."
“Do as he says,” Sif added. “Send the armor to his room as well.”
"Ok."
Several maids immediately dispersed, and then Li Ai, led by them, entered a room. Several other maids pushed a human-shaped armor rack into the room, on which hung a set of light armor in black and silver, the metal surface gleaming with a cold luster under the light.
Li Ai quickly changed his clothes in the room. The fabric clung to his body curves without hindering his combat ability. His gaze then fell on the black and silver light armor. He reached out and lightly touched the armor plates, unable to help but sigh:
"As expected of Asgardians, they can even use armor as part of their formal attire."
Chapter 188 The Interrupted Banquet
Li Ai put on the black and silver light armor. There happened to be a crystal wall in the room that could be used as a mirror. After taking off his glasses, he examined his current appearance.
The understated yet luxurious black and silver light armor added to Li Ai's heroic and noble air, making him look like a spirited young knight.
"It looks pretty good, it's a pity I can't wear it on Earth." Li Ai said, looking at his reflection on the crystal wall. He raised his hand and lightly touched the arm armor, asking curiously:
"I just don't know what material this armor is made of. I'll ask Sif later."
After saying that, Li Ai turned and left the room, the small cloak that was pressed against the back of her left shoulder armor fluttering in the air.
“Yes, he looks more like a warrior now,” Sif nodded in affirmation.
"By the way, what material is this armor made of? It has a metallic feel, but I find it very light," Li Ai asked Sif, raising her arms and stretching them a few times.
“The armor material comes from minerals unique to Asgard. Your suit also contains some Uru alloy, which provides excellent defense against magical attacks. It’s a pity you don’t know Asgardian magic, so it’s not as convenient for you to wear as it is for us.” Sif said as she walked in another direction.
"So you Asgardians can summon armor directly with magic?" Li Ai recalled Thor's performance when he automatically formed a complete set of armor upon contact with Mjolnir.
“Powerful Asgardians can even form armor directly from their own power,” Sif added, a hint of pride in her voice, before quickening her pace.
Soon after, Li Ai followed Sif to the first level of Odin's Vault.
This place is like a large museum, displaying the spoils of war obtained by Odin during his conquests. Li Ai saw many products from different civilizations.
Li Ai stood beneath a wrecked disc-shaped spacecraft, looking up and asking, "Which civilization's spaceship is this?"
“All I know is that they were a very stupid race. They killed a few civilians and thought they could defeat Asgard, so they directly sent out coordinates to provoke the King of the Gods. In the end, they were wiped out of the universe by the Asgardian army,” Sif explained calmly.
"The universe is full of such blindly arrogant provocateurs."
"Is that so..."
Li Ai stroked his chin and pondered for a moment. He thought the spaceship was quite intact, and maybe Tony and the others could extract some usable technology. Even if they couldn't use any technology, it would be good to broaden their knowledge.
"I want this spaceship," Li Ai said, looking at the damaged spaceship.
"Anything else?" Sif crossed her arms and said generously, "The King of the Gods allows you to choose freely here."
Taking everything would be greedy and impolite, and alien technology is something that's easy to overdo and end up with, and it could also attract Asgard's enemies. So Li Ai decided to take only what's clean and selective.
Li Ai stood in front of a small display case containing an item that resembled headphones and appeared to be in perfect condition. She asked:
What are these headphones used for?
“That’s a translator,” Sif said. “It has many languages built into it. It’s actually a relatively outdated model. The universe is more into translators with implanted prosthetics now. And we Asgardians have magic, so we don’t need translator prosthetics.”
"Can it be used directly?" Li Ai was very interested in this translator, which could help Earth solve the problem of language barriers with aliens.
“Sure, that thing is solar-powered and always ready to use,” Sif replied, then stepped forward, opened the display case, and handed the earphone-shaped translator directly to Li Ai.
Li Ai reached out and took the translator, put it around her neck, pointed to a bookshelf, and asked:
What's on that shelf of books?
“That’s a partial technological record of some interstellar civilization.” Sif’s words made Li Ai’s eyes light up.
"I'll take this one too," Li Ai said.
After that, Li Ai asked for some more items from the collection, which were very useful to him and the Avengers.
Sif looked at Li Ai, who was playing with a set of interstellar communicators, and said, "I'll have someone organize these things for you. Now, let's go to the banquet first."
“Okay.” Li Ai put down the communicator first and followed Sif to the banquet hall.
The maids had just finished setting up the venue and were preparing to serve a sumptuous feast of food and mead.
Frigga, her long dress trailing on the ground, walked slowly towards the two. Her calm gaze fell on Li Ai, and she praised her:
"Young man, you look very dashing dressed like that."
“Mrs. Frigga, you’re so kind. I really like this dress and armor.” Li Ai nodded her thanks to Frigga.
“I hope the banquet will make you even happier,” Frigga said with a light laugh.
By this time, Asgardians had begun to enter, and within an hour, the small banquet hall was teeming with people.
Seeing that the time was right, Frigga gestured for Li Ai to follow her. They stood together where everyone could see them, and Frigga introduced them to the Asgardians who had come to the feast:
"People of Asgard, not long ago, a criminal named Lorelei murdered her fellow citizens and fled to Midgard using dark magic. But she did not go astray; instead, she was captured by this brave young man. Today's feast is held in honor of his bravery."
"Yay! For the brave boy!"
"We won't leave until we're drunk!"
The enthusiastic Asgardians in the audience raised their glasses, treating Li Ai as a distinguished guest.
At this moment, Saul, having finished his heart-to-heart talk with his son, entered the small banquet hall. He pulled Li Ai to a table laden with meat and fruit, and laughed heartily:
"Just eating and drinking casually isn't enough to satisfy us. How about we have a competitive eating contest?"
"Did you learn this word when you were training on Earth?" Li Ai raised an eyebrow.
“Yes, I was watching what you call ‘television’ then,” Saul replied candidly.
"Okay, then I'll eat as much as I want."
Li Ai smiled slightly. He and Thor stood in front of a table. After Sif said "Start," the two began to stuff meat into their mouths frantically, chewing without stopping.
These meats come from native Asgardian livestock such as cattle and sheep, as well as fish caught by fishermen. They are very nutritious and have great health benefits if consumed regularly, which explains why Asgardians generally have the physique of warriors.
Li Ai ate with her mouth full of oil, and her hands slowed down. Sole next to her did the same.
Just then, a figure burst through the small banquet hall door, stumbling into the scene. Blood dripped onto the mirror-like floor tiles. Leaning against a pillar, he shouted at Thor:
"Something's wrong, Thor! The dwarves have run into the Annihilation Zerg, and Volstagg and Hogan are still fighting to the death in Nidavellir."
The newcomer was Fandral, one of the Warriors Three of Asgard. He was no longer the charming playboy he once was; he was covered in blood and looked as if he had crawled out of a pile of corpses.
