If it weren't for the fact that lunch break was only fifty minutes long and the round trip was quite rushed, he really wanted to go home and cook lunch himself.
When only the food and drinks were left, the three girls sat at a table near him and began talking about one of the girls' new cameras.
"Jessica, your new camera is amazing! I couldn't afford it even if I saved up my allowance for half a year." One of the curly-haired girls said, looking at the DSLR camera that the black-haired girl was hanging around her neck.
Upon hearing this, Li Ai glanced over and saw a camera just like hers.
This camera costs more than the monthly salary of many white-collar workers; it's unaffordable for the average high school student.
"I bought this again with the compensation money after I was hit by a car," the girl named Jessica said earnestly. She was plain-looking, but her long black hair was a big plus.
At this moment, the girl with blue hair who was standing next to the two noticed Li Ai. The first thing she saw was his strong muscles.
“His muscles are even bigger than those guys on the school basketball team.” Her eyes gleamed, and she even boldly struck up a conversation.
"Excuse me, we've never seen you before."
“I’m a transfer student who just arrived recently, and I don’t have any friends here yet.” Li Ai smiled slightly and said politely, “Because I signed up for the photography group, I’m quite interested in that camera.”
“Jessica, he’s in the photography team just like you.” The curly-haired girl patted Jessica on the shoulder.
"A new member of the photography group?" Jessica exclaimed. "My name is Jessica Jones, a ninth-grader."
“Lee Scott, a tenth-grade transfer student.”
These two terms, when translated into Li Ai's previous life's terms, actually correspond to the third year of junior high school and the first year of senior high school. The corresponding methods of the school system in the two countries are different. Normally, the tenth grade is from the age of 15 to 16. Li Ai was legally 17 years old when he entered the tenth grade because his mother used fake documents to delay his schooling.
He vaguely recognized the name Jessica Jones; he had even watched a TV series of the same name in his previous life, where the protagonist was a private detective with superpowers.
However, the person in front of Li Ai seemed much more inexperienced and energetic, unlike the character in the TV series who was somewhat irritable and alcoholic.
Chapter 19 The Silver Ghost (Supplement)
"Don't forget your weekly photography lesson this afternoon," Jessica kindly reminded her.
Upon hearing this, Li Ai nodded and replied, "Thank you for reminding me. I have to go to class now. Let's talk again another time."
Seeing that it was almost time for the first class in the afternoon, he took his tray and left his seat to head to the classroom for the first class.
Time always seems to fly by at school, and before she knew it, Li Ai had completed all her courses, including photography lessons.
He returned to his residence and found the living room light on. Realizing who was there, he immediately called out:
"Mom, you're back?"
"And she even brought back a belated seventeenth birthday present." Ida Wong, carrying a black suitcase, came down from the second floor. She handed the suitcase to Li Ai and said:
"Open it and take a look."
"it is good."
Li Ai took the box and placed it on the coffee table in the living room. After unfastening two latches, he saw a pistol without a magazine.
The pistol's slide is silver-gray, and the ejection port is marked with "9MM×19" to indicate the type of ammunition to the shooter. It has a muzzle brake and a grip made of black polymer material with clean, sharp lines.
He picked up the pistol; the grip fit his hand perfectly. He then pulled the slide and heard a crisp click.
"That's a really good gun," Li Ai remarked, looking at the pistol in her hand, then asked:
"By the way, what is the prototype of this gun?"
Ida crossed her arms and explained:
"The prototype is the MUP pistol developed by Umbrella for special operations in the last century. It is 9mm in caliber. Yours has been fitted with a high-polymer coating that is resistant to corrosion and friction. The muzzle brake can effectively suppress muzzle rise. It also has a custom grip, a flared magazine well, and a standard Picatinny rail, which allows you to freely equip it with a tactical flashlight and laser indicator."
Umbrella's businesses are not limited to biomedicine.
At its peak, Umbrella's industries encompassed computer hardware, security, and military, and this personal defense weapon, modified from the MUP pistol, was one of them.
But this pistol is not an old model; it was a product of Stark Industries acquiring its patents after Umbrella's downfall and remanufacturing it with modern technology—it couldn't be newer.
"It seems that although the company went bankrupt, its research results have remained in this world," Li Ai said, looking at the silver gun in her hand.
“What you have is already one of their most friendly research results,” Ada said meaningfully.
Compared to biological weapons? This pistol is practically too kind... Li Ai thought to herself, but changed the subject aloud.
Does this gun have a name?
“You can call it whatever you like,” Ada said casually. “Get familiar with your sidearm first. I’m going to order takeout.”
This pistol reminded Li Ai of the starting weapon 'Silver Ghost' from her previous life when she played Resident Evil 4, so she used that name.
He then placed the pistol on the table and searched for accessories in the gun case, eventually finding three magazines, a tactical gun light, a laser pointer, a holster, spare parts, a quickloader, and a bag of basic tools.
He used tools to attach a tactical gun light to the Silver Ghost, then loaded an empty magazine, pulled the trigger, and fired a shot to get a feel for the trigger pull.
After hearing a crisp 'snap', he nodded in satisfaction, then removed the magazine, inspected it, and put the gun back in the box, ready to go to the operations room later for live-fire practice.
"By the way, which delivery company did you order from?" Li Ai asked, turning her head.
Ada replied, "Panda Express, that Chinese chain you think is alright."
About half an hour later, the deliveryman brought the food. After settling the payment and giving a tip, the mother and son began to eat.
The atmosphere at the dining table was rather quiet, with only the occasional clinking of chopsticks.
Li Ai ate a large portion of fried rice, along with broccoli and beef stir-fry and a modified version of Kung Pao chicken, which was a way to make up for the taste buds that had been ravaged by the school cafeteria.
He casually asked a question when he was almost finished eating.
"Mom, how long are you going to stay this time?"
"Looks like the kids are getting more and more clingy as they get older," Ada said with a raised eyebrow, after a moment of teasing.
"I'll be working in New York for the next two months, and I can take you to school every day."
"Sounds like a rare, easy job," Li Ai guessed.
Ada put down her chopsticks and said casually, "Don't forget I'm also a private psychologist. This time, I've taken on a client who's a celebrity."
"A celebrity?" Li Ai asked curiously.
"Remember Tony Stark?"
“Oh, it was him! I almost thought he was dead,” Li Ai nodded.
At this point, several months had passed since Tony Stark disappeared in Afghanistan, and rumors were circulating that he was dead.
Even Li Ai wondered if she had entered a timeline where Tony Stark didn't make it out of the cave alive.
Ida continued, "After his personal assistant received the news, he contacted many people and prepared everything for the great inventor."
"They've really thought of everything," Li Ai remarked.
"That guy is the most sought-after arms dealer in the entire United States. Some people are so afraid of him melting away."
But Tony Stark is alive, which means he might make the decision to shut down the weapons department.
This was, in Li Ai's memory, an opportunity to buy Stark Industries stock, because Tony Stark was going to bring out the Arc Reactor and transform into an energy company.
That thing, which is less than the size of a palm, is actually a controlled miniature cold fusion reactor, a game-changer for traditional energy sources.
"I wonder if he'll continue researching weapons," Li Ai said meaningfully.
His mother, having grasped the gist of the sentence, speculated, "You mean he might abandon weapons development because of this kidnapping?"
Li Ai explained, "Maybe. I was just thinking that, given the high praise Stark Industries' weapons have received, even the people who kidnapped him might be using Stark Industries' weapons."
People change after experiencing certain things.
Just as the Raccoon City incident changed Ada Wong, who was once just a freelance corporate spy, she also learned after witnessing Raccoon City being destroyed by a biohazard leak that there are some things that should never be done.
“If what you said is true, then this great inventor will indeed do things that are beyond the world’s expectations,” Ada agreed.
At this moment, Li Ai had swallowed the last bite of fried rice and suggested, "If he does something that could affect Stark Industries' stock price, could we take the opportunity to buy some? Maybe he can even lead Stark Industries to a new business."
"You have so many ideas, I'll figure something out." Ida tapped her son's forehead, her eyes reflecting the obsession with grades common among East Asian parents, and added with a word of advice:
"Also, don't think that just because you're at a new school and your attendance is insufficient, your grades will drop. Your grades in the exams in late January next year must not be lower than an A."

"Okay, okay, I'll make sure my final grades are good. I'm going upstairs to rest now."
Li Ai quickly got up, picked up the gun case and left the restaurant. He went to the basement, found several boxes of 9mm bullets, and then went upstairs to his room.
After pushing open the wardrobe door and entering the operations room, he took out three magazines and loaded them with bullets using a quick-loader.
After inserting the 15-round magazine into the grip magazine well, he pulls the slide to push a bullet into the chamber, thus giving the pistol a 16-round capacity.
Li Ai put on goggles and earmuffs, then took the Silver Ghost and spare magazines to the training area.
The area is simply divided into two zones: one is a shooting range for practice, and the other is a fitness area with exercise equipment.
He arrived at the shooting range, held the Silver Ghost rifle horizontally, aimed the muzzle at the practice target, and pulled the trigger.
The bullet flew smoothly out of the muzzle, the slide slid, and a shot was completed in the blink of an eye.
Looking at the bullet hole that landed in the bullseye, Li Ai said with satisfaction, "This is the most comfortable gun I've ever fired."
Bang bang bang————
After the magazine was emptied quickly and the target was almost destroyed, he laid his arms flat, removed his goggles and earmuffs, and cleaned the remaining dust from the chamber.
Afterward, he reloaded the empty magazine to ensure that the Silver Ghost was always ready to fire steadily.
“However, there are some occasions where it’s inconvenient to carry a gun with you…” Li Ai said, frowning.
New York City law prohibits carrying handguns into public areas such as supermarkets; those caught can face fines and imprisonment.
But this did not stump him.
"I've got it! Let's make a door-like ornament. When needed, we can use this ornament to open the door to the operations room." Li Ai had a flash of inspiration. He immediately got to work, found wood and parts in the basement, and began to make the ornament.
In no time, he had built a frame, glued several wooden strips together to form the shape of a door panel, and then made simple latches that could be opened and closed.
The door-shaped pendant wasn't very big, but it was big enough for him to put his hand inside.
Li Ai lightly tapped the door panel with his finger. Black mist flowed, confirming that it could be used as a teleportation portal. He exerted a little force, pushed open the small door panel, and reached in with his right hand, touching the silver ghost tucked in the holster.
This effectively creates a storage space, which can be surprisingly effective when sneaking into places with security checks.
After confirming that the idea was feasible, he painted the small door white and attached a chain to it, using it as a backpack charm.
After studying in his room for a while, he lay down on his bed and entered the dream world.
Countless doors still floated around him, but a white passage had appeared beneath his feet, with doors on both sides that he could now lock onto their owners. This place was essentially a transfer station.
There are two doors, and nameplates are engraved on the door panels.
The brown wooden door is labeled 'George Stacy,' indicating that she has already established a cooperative relationship with Li Ai, while the other pink and white door is labeled 'Nancy Thompson.'
“Nancy? That makes sense. She was pulled into the dream by Freddy along with me. Theoretically, I have a connection with her.”
Li Ai smiled and walked towards the pink and white wooden door with delicate patterns. He pushed the door open and entered, instantly arriving at a classical library.
The floors, walls, and bookshelves are all made of mahogany and are carved with intricate patterns. Sunlight shines through the glass onto the corridor, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.
"She really loves learning." Li Ai walked towards the center of the library.
In the center of the library stood a set of tables and chairs, where a blonde girl was writing furiously under the soft white light. Only after she stopped writing did Li Ai walk over to her and tease her:
"It seems you've been working really hard, Nancy."
"Li Ai!" Nancy exclaimed with delight. Looking at his handsome face, she asked, "How did you find me?"
“Don’t forget that I have similar abilities to that monster.” Li Ai raised his hand and a mahogany chair appeared out of thin air. He sat in the chair and talked to Nancy face to face.
“But you are much better than him.” Nancy smiled and waved her hand gently. The desk where they were studying was pulled away by a suction force, and a table with white porcelain tea set appeared in front of them.
Looking at the scene before her, a hint of joy appeared in Li Ai's eyes, and she said with satisfaction, "It seems that you have also mastered the power to control your dreams."
“When you defeated Freddy, I also absorbed a bit of purple light… but let alone you, I’m not even as good as that guy Freddy,” Nancy said as she added sugar to her teacup.
"I can only pull the people in Springwood Town into my dreams. It won't work if they're a little too far away, and I can't change much. So I'll just use this ability to study and try to get better grades."
"Double the study time? You're something else," Li Ai laughed.
“That's how you catch up with me in the big city.” Nancy started pouring tea into her cup. “By the way, could you help me brush up on my Chinese again?”
High school students in the United States also have to learn a foreign language, usually choosing one from Chinese, French, or Spanish.
Li Ai chose Chinese to save time and her grades were consistently good, while Nancy, who also chose Chinese, had a tough time.
