[Perception & Aura Concealment]
He could vaguely sense the presence of the person inside, and taking advantage of the moment when the other person's attention was not on him, the boy gently turned the doorknob.
With a soft click, the door opened.
A cool, aloof girl with long, dark hair, dressed in short-sleeved pajamas, sat leaning against the headboard of the bed, holding a thick astronomy book in her hands, reading it expressionlessly.
Hearing a faint creak coming from the other side of the door, Shen Xi looked up and found that the door was still tightly closed, as if it were all just her imagination.
The girl frowned slightly, stared at the door in silence for a second, and then chose to continue reading her book.
Cheng Fei stood on the edge of the bed with his hands in his pockets, spending some time observing that cold yet beautiful little face to make sure she really couldn't notice his presence before following her blind spot to the other side of the bed.
The girl's inexplicably cute slippers were placed on the ground.
The boy aimed the detection gun at the slippers and pulled the trigger.
A dripping sound, seemingly from nowhere, echoed in the room.
Shen Xi looked up abruptly, trying to find the direction of the sound, but a gentle breeze from the air conditioner swept by, and she found nothing.
The girl's brows were furrowed.
She couldn't recall anything in her room making that sound...
The girl took a deep breath, forcing herself to focus her attention back on the book, her puzzled expression suggesting some difficult problem was written on it.
Cheng Fei, standing to the side, breathed a sigh of relief.
He can not only use [Aura Concealment] to find the opponent's blind spot, but also use Time Zero to quickly dodge when necessary. The combination of the two abilities seems to have an unexpected effect.
The boy picked up the detector gun and looked at it, confirming that the screen was blank.
In other words, there were no microorganisms in the girl's slippers.
In that case, I'm afraid...
His gaze shifted.
The girl sitting on the edge of the bed was covered with a towel, only covering the area around her stomach. Under her light-colored pajamas and shorts, her slender and long legs stretched out, her delicate skin was dazzlingly white, and her small feet were completely unguarded.
The boy looked at the girl's face, sensing her attention, took a step, confirmed that he was still in the blind spot, and moved again.
Soon, he arrived near the foot of the bed, aimed the detection gun at the soft, white, and tender object that resembled a young girl's rice cake, and beeped.
Upon hearing the noise, Shen Xi abruptly raised her head, her eyes narrowing slightly as she quickly scanned the room with wary eyes.
Still nothing.
The room looked no different from usual, but she always felt something was off, even having the illusion that... there was another breath next to her ear.
The bizarre idea made the girl's heart tighten, and the unease swirling around her grew stronger. She thought for a moment, gritted her teeth, picked up the phone next to her pillow, and dialed the contact at the top of her address book without hesitation, then put it to her ear.
A few seconds later, her cell phone rang abruptly beside her.
The girl's pupils contracted, and like a frightened animal, she jumped up and, using both hands and feet, fled to the other side of the bed with the blanket. Her extremely wary gaze turned towards the direction from which the sound came, then she froze, her expression becoming hesitant, "Cheng... Fei?"
The boy regretfully took his still-ringing phone out of his pocket, hung up, and looked at her. "Teacher Shen, why did you suddenly call me?"
"I feel something strange in the bedroom, so I wanted to call you over..." the girl murmured to herself, as if she hadn't quite come to her senses yet.
"Although I'm glad that Teacher Shen thought of me first when she was scared, I'm not a strange thing, thank you." The boy looked at her, his gaze both doting and helpless.
Shen Xi frowned, staring at him with a bewildered expression. Coming to her senses, she glared fiercely at the boy. "Trash! When did you get in here?"
"Just now? You were just too engrossed in your book to notice." Cheng Fei shrugged casually.
"Impossible! I checked just now and there was no one there. How did you get in?" the girl raised her voice.
"Okay, actually I sensed the little cutie's need and so I teleported over." The boy smiled.
"Stop talking nonsense and explain yourself!" The girl wrapped the blanket tighter around herself and stared intently at him.
"Did you scare the little cutie?" The boy observed the tense little face and honestly lowered his head. "I just wanted to tease you a little. I'm sorry."
"Ridiculous! Nobody here would be scared by something so trivial." The girl glared at him, her face still full of confusion. "So how exactly did Cheng Feiyu swim in? You're ordered to explain yourself!"
"So it was just a normal routine of opening the door, coming in, and then watching you from the side?" the boy said, shrugging.
Shen Xi stared at him, her eyes flickering, as if she realized something. She spoke in an unquestionable tone, "Trash, answer me, has your perception improved?"
The boy paused for a moment, then looked on with feigned confusion, "What does this have to do with perception?"
“In the past, only fox spirits could get close to others so stealthily, and they could guess and sense things with just a hair’s breadth.” The girl’s gaze was sharp.
"That kind of thing is fine, but the more important question now is whether it's better to have the regular meeting today, rather than earlier?" The boy's tone was nonchalant.
The girl paused for a second, then relaxed, turning her face away coldly. "Whatever."
"That's good." The boy breathed a sigh of relief, patted his pillow as usual, sat down against the headboard, and sighed comfortably.
He looked at the girl who was still kneeling in the same spot, "Teacher Shen, are you planning to sleep there tonight? But it might be even more unsafe if you're too close to the wardrobe."
Shen Xi shivered involuntarily upon hearing his words. She quickly looked at the closed wardrobe door on the inside of the room, then glared at the boy, her face showing a hint of annoyance. "Cheng Feiyu, stop spouting nonsense!"
"My little darling is too easily frightened?" The boy couldn't help but chuckle at her reaction.
"Shut up, I've told you no one here will be scared by something this trivial." The girl glared at him again, took the blanket and returned to her original spot. She first put the phone and book she had just thrown away on the bedside table, then turned back to stare at the boy. Her pure, dark eyes were unblinking, and her small face had an indescribable expression.
"What's wrong? Missed me after not seeing me for a few days? I have been a bit busy lately, that's true." The young man smiled at her.
"Trash, lie down," she commanded coldly.
"Okay?" The boy did as instructed, sliding down.
Shen Xi moved above him, placing her hands on his shoulders and looking down at him, her thick hair falling on either side of his head.
The girl adjusted her position, aligning her curves, and trembled slightly. She leaned down a little, staring at him with her slightly furrowed brows, her gaze seeming to see right through him. "So you stole a new ability from that fox spirit again?"
"What do you mean by stealing, Ms. Shen? Your stereotypes about me are really too much." The boy met her gaze without any shame. "Actually, I've been practicing ninjutsu recently, and what I just saw was the result of that training. How about it? Isn't it amazing?"
Shen Xi stared at his smug expression and fell silent. Then, without a sound, she lay down, wrapped her small arms around his neck, and buried her face in the comfort of his chest, letting their body heat and heartbeats mingle intimately. She remained motionless in that position, muttering, "Utterly boring trash..."
"You weren't really scared, were you?" The young man gently stroked her smooth back as her pajamas slipped down.
"No one was scared when I said it, so what exactly is Cheng Feiyu trying to emphasize by repeating himself?" the girl said unhappily, twisting her body in protest.
The boy stiffened for a moment, then said, "Never mind what I said."
In the unspoken silence, the two seemed to be listening to each other's heartbeats and pulses, and the air in the bedroom fell into a long silence.
After a long silence, Shen Xi said softly without looking up, "Trash, so what are we going to talk about at today's meeting?"
"I recently got my hands on an interesting little toy and wanted to show it to Teacher Shen." Cheng Fei held the microbial detector gun in his hand.
The girl looked up and glanced at it, her face turning suspicious. "What is this?"
857. Shen Xi escapes reality
Cheng Fei stroked his chin as he looked at the detector gun, looking very serious. "This is a recent high-tech gadget. It's said to be able to detect microorganisms just like taking a body temperature. It's very convenient. Professor Shen, would you like to try it?"
Shen Xi's eyes flickered. She took the prop from his hand and examined it. "How do I use it?"
"Just aim at the spot you want to probe and press it?" The boy made a trigger-pulling motion.
The next second, without hesitation, the girl pointed the detection gun at his forehead, her small face expressionless, as if she wanted to shoot him dead.
The boy raised his hands in surrender.
Shen Xi pressed the trigger and heard a beep, realizing the source of the strange sound from before.
The girl picked it up to look at the screen, then suddenly handed it back to him, her expression seemingly losing interest. "As expected, Cheng Feiyu is always so boring."
"Teacher Shen, you don't believe me?" The boy was stunned.
The girl looked down at him with disdain. "First, it's impossible for someone as shameless as Cheng Feiyu not to have microorganisms on his face. Second, I can't think of any technology that can detect microorganisms so easily."
"Little cutie, you can be quite arrogant sometimes." The boy sighed. "First, what if I don't have any microorganisms on my body? Second, with technology developing so fast these days, it's normal for you to come up with some unexpected little tricks, right?"
Shen Xi paused for a second, took the detection gun back, sat up straight this time, pointed it at the back of her hand to detect the result, and looked at the boy, "It's useless."
"You are the Celestial Queen, so it's perfectly normal that Earth's microorganisms can't get close to you?" Cheng Fei shrugged.
The girl didn't refute it. After thinking for a moment, she pointed the detector at the wallpapered wall above the bed, beeped it, and took it back to check the results. Her expression turned to surprise. "Cladosporium, Aspergillus, Penicillium... This is impossible?"
The boy glanced at the spotless wall. "Although it looks clean, these microorganisms are widespread in the environment, which is why mold grows on the wall when it gets damp. Teacher Shen should know this common knowledge, right?"
"Where did this come from?" The girl ignored his words, raised the detection gun, and her gaze sharpened.
"Teacher Shen, I shared the interesting things with you as soon as possible. What's with this interrogation look?" the boy said, looking wronged.
Shen Xi stared at him in silence for a second, then turned to observe the detection gun in her hand, softening her tone, "Without using a microscope to identify the morphology, or extracting genetic material for sequencing, you can know the type of microorganism just by scanning it. This is not Earth technology at all."
"If it's not Earth technology, is it Protoss technology?" the boy feigned surprise.
"Trash, stop pretending in front of me. You know the truth in your heart." The girl narrowed her eyes and lightly punched his shoulder, her tone conveying a sense of knowing everything yet feeling powerless to change anything.
The boy coughed lightly. "That kind of thing is fine, the important thing is its function. It can accurately detect microorganisms. Don't you think it's very useful, Teacher Shen?"
"What's the use?" the girl asked, puzzled.
"For example, if, and I mean if, we suspect that a certain food is unsanitary, we can use this to test it and find out if it has spoiled or something," the boy patiently explained.
Shen Xi stared at him expressionlessly.
After a brief silence, the girl said "oh," put her things on the bedside table, and snuggled back into his arms in a comfortable position, burying her head and remaining still.
"Teacher Shen?" The boy smelled the faint fragrance emanating from the thick strands of hair so close to his.
"I'm sleepy. If there's nothing important, I'll go to sleep." The girl didn't even look up, her tone indifferent.
"You're not asking about perception anymore, and you're not asking about the origin of the props. Are you still Shen Xi?" The boy was stunned.
"There's nothing to ask. Cheng Feiyu won't tell me the truth anyway." The girl's tone remained unchanged.
"Then let's talk about the ingenious uses of the detection gun? I think it's a major invention that could change people's daily lives," the boy said seriously.
"There's nothing to talk about. Just avoid touching suspicious food in daily life; there's no need to test for microorganisms." The girl's tone was so indifferent that it seemed she had lost interest in everything in the world.
“Teacher Shen, I think you’re escaping reality.” The boy stared at the ceiling.
"I don't understand. I'm so sleepy. Turn off the light and hold me while I sleep. That's an order." The girl buried her face even deeper, her limbs tightly gripping the boy's arms, with an unyielding attachment.
"You're being too deliberate, Teacher Shen."
"Shut up."
"Actually, I already scanned it."
"I told you to shut up." The girl said impatiently.
“You don’t have any fungus on your feet at all.”
"..." The girl's breathing became even, as if she had really fallen asleep.
"Teacher Shen, please face reality."
"..." It seems like he's completely asleep.
"Then I won't be polite."
"Cheng Fei." The girl took a deep breath.
"what?"
"Take your hand away."
"They all say there are no fungi left."
"Take it away anyway, that's an order."
"Why?"
"Why are you asking me what right you have to touch a high school girl you have no relation to? Cheng Fei, what do you want to do to me now?" The girl's tone became more forceful.
"I was wrong, Teacher Shen, please calm down." The boy decisively stopped.
"Go to sleep," the girl uttered, her tone unreadable.
“Teacher Shen, since there are no microorganisms, your so-called hygiene problem doesn’t exist at all. It’s not your style to try to deny it,” the boy said cautiously.
The girl paused for a second, then adopted a stern tone, "That doesn't mean I'll tolerate your filthy, shameful fetishes developing. Don't forget, you fickle aquatic mammal won't just touch me."
