"Teacher Shen, you really don't trust me?" The boy looked at her icy face.
“Um, Shen Xi, I can vouch for Cheng Fei’s honesty,” Nagasaki Asuna said softly.
Under their gazes, the silver-haired girl remained silent for a moment, then took a deep breath. "You don't need to buy a half-elf; I have another way."
"That's fine, but tell me the specifics of how," Cheng Fei said seriously.
"I've repaired the tailless scorpions in the backyard; their firepower is enough to suppress most enemies," Shen Xi said coldly.
Cheng Fei paused for a second, then said, "Teacher Shen, you'd rather go on a killing spree than let me find a half-elf?"
"You have a problem with that? Anyway, in your eyes I'm just a cruel and cold-blooded Protoss Queen." Shen Xi narrowed her eyes and spoke in a muffled voice.
Cheng Fei thought for a moment, "So how do you plan to repair it? We only have three days. A day in the crash site is about one-third longer than on Earth, which means it will be four Earth days later. We'll move on Sunday."
"Go to the fourth floor and find another tailless scorpion to dismantle parts and bring them over for repair," Shen Xi said coldly.
"This will work? Are you sure you can fix it?" Cheng Fei looked at her.
"So you're the one who doesn't believe me?" Shen Xi raised her chin and stared at him.
The two locked eyes, their gazes meeting only in the shimmering dust motes in the air.
The boy sighed helplessly, reached out and gently stroked the girl's silver hair, looked into her eyes and softened his tone, "Little cutie, of course I trust your intelligence, but rationally speaking, whether the repair is successful or not depends on luck, you understand that, right? And that doesn't even take into account the possibility that using the out-of-control mechanical parts might cause this tailless scorpion to go out of control as well."
Shen Xi frowned, her stubborn little mouth slightly open.
The boy pondered for a moment, "How about this, just to be on the safe side, we'll do it both ways. You repair your tailless scorpion, and I'll buy my half-elf. How about we make a bet, something we haven't done in a long time?"
"What are we betting on?" Shen Xi frowned.
"If you fix it, I'll treat you to a caramel macchiato from the back gate of the school. In return, if I keep my promise, you'll cook me a meal yourself. How about that?" the boy said earnestly.
Shen Xi's eyes flashed, and she suddenly kicked the boy hard, "Cheng Fei, you trash."
"Still not working?" the boy asked in surprise.
"Why do you only need to spend some money to buy a drink, while I have to go through the trouble of cooking myself? It's not fair at all. You never forget how to take advantage of others." Shen Xi glared at him angrily.
"So what do you want?" the boy asked, sounding somewhat helpless.
"Let's forget about those two, but..." Shen Xi suddenly shut her mouth.
"But what?" The boy looked at her cautiously.
“However, if the tailless scorpion can’t be repaired, that’s not my problem. But if you overstep your bounds with the half-elf you bought, Cheng Fei, I will never forgive you.” Shen Xi stared at him with a piercing gaze.
"That's it." The boy breathed a sigh of relief. "No problem, it's a deal."
Just then, Nagasaki Asuna's soft voice came from the side, "The two of you can really seize any opportunity to flirt. I can't learn that, I just can't learn that."
At some point, Nagasaki Asuna, like a tired student, lay on the table watching the two talk, her clear eyes blinking.
"Nana, if you get jealous like her, I'll really want to die." The boy looked at her seriously.
"Never mind talking nonsense, no one here will be jealous." Shen Xi's face turned cold, and she kicked him hard with her small feet encased in white boots.
"Yes, yes, Her Majesty the Queen wouldn't be jealous." The boy nodded perfunctorily. "So, shall we continue with our previous topic?"
"Cheng Fei, I have a question." Nagasaki Asuna raised her hand while leaning on the table.
"please say."
"So it's really just the three of us who will rescue Leia?" Nagasaki Asuna paused, tilting her head in thought. "No, will it be four, or five?"
"I only told you half of what I was going to say. My plan isn't over yet." The boy coughed. "It would be too difficult for just the two of you to rescue people. We also need people to operate the boat, so we need to find a few more helpers, preferably the kind who are willing to die for each other."
"Huh, where are the helpers..." Nagasaki Asuna paused, "Could it be Ye Shuang and Lin?"
Shen Xi remained silent and narrowed her eyes.
"No, those two are too troublesome." The boy shook his head. "It's better to find someone without any hidden dangers. I think Miriam is pretty good. As long as you say the word, Nana, I'll go through fire and water for you."
"If Cheng Fei is willing, I wouldn't mind using her?" Nagasaki Asuna tilted her head.
"Teacher Shen, you shouldn't have any objections to this, right?" The boy turned his head.
"As long as you're not afraid of being wanted by the Royal Navy someday, that's fine." Shen Xi sneered, as if she could already see that day coming.
"Don't worry, I'll definitely cling to your leg and beg you to protect me when the time comes," the boy said earnestly.
"Cheng Fei, I advise you to wake up." The girl took a step back, her face filled with disgust.
"If possible, I'll also find some obedient girls to come over, the kind who can be both tools and keep secrets," the boy added.
"Hey, so Cheng Fei has other obedient girls outside?" Nagasaki Asuna tilted her head and looked at him casually, blinking, but pausing intentionally or unintentionally on the word "obedient".
"As expected, who are you going to fool with sweet talk this time?" Shen Xi glared at him.
"You two, calm down." The boy raised his hand. "I just wanted to trick some girls into playing games. I didn't mean anything by it. After all, I have a lot of female friends."
“I don’t mind at all?” Nagasaki Asuna looked at the boy and blinked.
"Really? Nana." The boy looked at her.
"Really, I won't be jealous?" Nagasaki Asuna continued to look at the boy, blinking.
"Then I'm relieved." The boy turned his head without showing any emotion. "Teacher Shen, you don't have any objections, right? This is a necessary measure."
Shen Xi turned her face away with a cold smile and said nothing.
"Alright, it's settled then. Everyone, work hard for the next three days and strive for five thousand gold coins." The boy finished speaking and took the lead in clapping.
The result was that no response was received.
……
346. Zhou Han felt something was strange.
The next day, noon.
The small group from Class 6 of Grade 1 still went to the cafeteria together to fill their stomachs before returning to the classroom.
"Cheng Fei, the school sports meet is just around the corner. How about I give you a chance to make amends?" Chen Hao was in high spirits, walking and miming dribbling and shooting motions, even though he didn't have a ball in his hand.
"What good deeds can make up for what bad deeds?" The boy, who was looking at the CET-6 vocabulary list, looked up.
"Join me in winning the 3x3 basketball championship for Class 6, and make up for the sins you've committed in this world."
"So even living is a sin for me?" the boy lamented with sorrow.
"In short, if you, me, and the vice class monitor join forces, we'll definitely beat those classes senseless. What do you say?" Chen Hao put his arm around the boy's shoulder.
"Let me tell you first, I'm just here to make up the numbers; we can only rely on the two of you to score points." The vice class monitor, walking beside him, smiled frankly.
"Actually, my plan was not to participate in anything at the school sports meet," Cheng Fei said, scratching his head.
"Even if you don't participate, you should still be there. Wouldn't it be more fun to get out and exercise than to sit in the audience for three days?" Chen Hao persuaded patiently.
Cheng Fei paused for a moment, then shook the CET-6 vocabulary list in his hand. "I can read the book from the audience."
The air went silent for a second.
"Can you please stop this nonsense, you brat!" Chen Hao was filled with grief and indignation.
“Cheng Fei, Cheng Fei, I think if you go play basketball, all the girls in the school will scream for you. And Ruan Jingyi and I can be your cheerleaders, what do you say?” Zhou Han, walking next to the boy, linked arms with her best friend, looking on with anticipation.
The boy thought for a moment, "It's not a bad thing to exercise occasionally, so okay, it's settled then."
"You just want to hear all the girls in the school scream, don't you? You bastard with no basketball spirit!" Chen Hao was even more indignant.
"After all, Cheng Fei can secure the championship, so don't overthink it." Du Xinhua put his hands behind his head and glanced sideways.
"That's three-on-three basketball! Do you even know what three-on-three basketball is? Although it's not as much as five-on-five, it still has tactics and rules. This kid is just physically strong. Once he encounters a team with good coordination..." Chen Hao gritted his teeth, put his arm around the former's shoulder, and started saying things that no one but him could understand.
The boys and girls returned to the classroom and began their lazy afternoon nap.
Ruan Jingyi's phone vibrated; a Shiba Inu avatar on WeChat had sent her a message.
"I'd like to talk to you privately about something. Can I step outside for a bit?"
She turned around and saw Cheng Fei studying as usual, making the most of every minute, without even looking at her.
"Um"
After replying, she said to Zhou Han next to her, "I'm going to the student council."
"We're not supposed to go today, are we?" Zhou Han, who was working on a math problem, looked up a few seconds later. Seeing that her best friend had already walked away, she blinked. "Strange... never mind."
Her eyes flickered, a smile playing on her lips. As she did countless times before, she turned around, clutching her math book, and saw the boy in the seat behind her, hands in his pockets, walking nonchalantly out of the classroom.
The petite girl stared at the scene, her round eyes filled with deep confusion. "How strange..."
On the other side, Ruan Jingyi walked out of the classroom and stopped at a secluded corner on the third floor. She stood there quietly with her hands behind her back, as if she was just looking out at the playground to clear her mind. A gentle breeze ruffled her neatly trimmed shoulder-length hair, and her quiet and elegant profile blended into the scenery.
The boy, with his hands in his pockets, came up to her and said, "I have a few questions for you."
"Hmm?" Ruan Jingyi tilted her head to look at the boy's profile and blinked.
"Besides the student council, you haven't joined any other clubs, right?" The boy looked into the distance.
"Ah."
"So you're free every afternoon?"
"Ah."
"Could you do something for me these next few nights? I might have to stay up late until Sunday."
"Hmm? Hmm!" Ruan Jingyi paused for a moment, almost imperceptibly, then nodded immediately, pursing her lips as she looked at the boy, a glimmer of light appearing in her otherwise calm eyes.
"Then I'll get straight to the point: please join the Corridor Research Department." The boy turned his head seriously.
"Huh? It's a club?" The quiet girl tilted her head, blinking repeatedly, looking somewhat bewildered.
“Yes, we have an important project in the game that requires manpower, and after thinking about it, I can't find anyone else in Sakura besides you.” The boy looked into her eyes. “Don't worry, our club is very flexible. Once we're done with this for a few days, we won't bother you anymore, okay?”
Ruan Jingyi stared into his eyes, lost in thought, and nodded subconsciously.
Just then, a familiar voice rang out behind them.
"Cheng Fei, why do you only contact Ruan Jingyi and not me about this?" Zhou Han put her hands on her hips, her round eyes fixed on the boy, her delicate brows slightly furrowed. "Aren't we friends?"
The boy was taken aback, then turned to look at her. "You heard everything?"
“Yes, I had a feeling you two went out together, so I thought I’d come and see for myself. I didn’t expect it to actually be you.” Zhou Han stared at the two of them suspiciously.
The air in the corridor seemed to freeze for half a second.
Ruan Jingyi's gaze darted around, avoiding her best friend's eyes.
"So you're willing to come too?" The boy seemed completely unaffected by the atmosphere, and even a little surprised.
“Of course, if you had invited me earlier, I would have joined the Corridor Research Department long ago.” Zhou Han said with a matter-of-fact expression. “But don’t get me wrong, I didn’t join for your sake.”
"Then who are you doing this for?" the boy asked in surprise.
"So what if it's for Nagasaki Asuna?" Zhou Han snorted.
"Okay, I just thought you were busy with other clubs, that's why I didn't contact you." The boy said seriously.
“Our journaling department is very relaxed, so you’re inviting me to join now, right?” Zhou Han’s eyes lit up, eager to try.
“If you’re willing, that would be great. We’re desperately short-staffed this week.” The boy shrugged. “Then come to the sixth floor after school for a pep talk.”
"Mm." Ruan Jingyi nodded without thinking.
"That's great! I've been wanting to visit your activity room for ages." Zhou Han smiled contentedly and ran up to link arms with her best friend.
……
In the afternoon, Cheng Fei left the classroom alone, put his hands in his pockets, and walked through the long corridor entwined with wisteria. He caught a glimpse of the ginkgo trees in the courtyard sprouting tender leaves, and the gentle breeze seemed to carry the breath of spring.
The boy climbed to the third floor of the club activity building, arrived at the club activity room at the end of the corridor, and confirmed the door number: "...Games Club".
He pushed open the door, and a cacophony of noise rushed in.
"Who threw away the banana peel?!"
"The man-eating flower will pinch you, hee hee hee!"
"You beast, eat my turtle shell!"
