Mystery: The Witch of Desire

Where will you take me?
The leader of the thugs laughed:
"Kingfisher Bar, Hot Bar, Red Boots Brothel, Spring Light Tavern, where do you want to go? A pretty girl like you will fetch a good price no matter where you go. They're desperate for women lately, and their prices have doubled!"
Chapter 57 Sorrow
Upon hearing this, Levi felt a complex mix of emotions:
"These two thugs were probably not sent by Xia Lani, but rather human traffickers who abduct women. I was unconscious in the carriage, so I was an easy target and that's why I was targeted."
However, is the Hyena Gang's recent large-scale purchase of women in preparation for the ritual of that evil god's descent? Are the recent spate of unnatural deaths in Tingen also the work of the Hyena Gang? It seems the day of the evil god's descent is truly fast approaching.
However, we still don't know what method they will use to hold the ceremony, and I've been driven to the brink of despair. My survival in the Hyena Gang is questionable, let alone obtaining intelligence..."
Reeves sighed, glanced at the dejected coachman beside him, and said to the two thugs:
“Give his wife and daughters back to him, and I’ll go with you.”
The thug raised an eyebrow upon hearing this, revealing a mocking smile:
"Although you're worth much more than those two women, we're not doing charity work, so how about this..."
The thug turned to the coachman, patted him on the shoulder, and said:
"Send us ten more beauties like her, and I'll return your wife and daughter to you. How about that? Fair enough!"
Upon hearing this, the driver trembled instantly and said in disbelief:
"How could this be? This isn't what we agreed on! You clearly promised me..."
"Hahahaha!"
The thug let out a wild laugh, laughing so hard he could barely breathe, clutching his stomach as he said:
"Haha, old man, the market has changed. Women are worth a lot of money now. Just grab a woman and send her to the Hyena Gang. Even an average-looking woman can get you tens of pounds, and a good-looking one can get you hundreds of pounds. How many years would it take you to pull a cart to earn that much money? It's more worthwhile to sell your wife and daughter!"
The coachman trembled slightly as he looked at the two thugs laughing maniacally, his eyes turning bloodshot.
He knew he had been deceived, and he might never see his wife and daughter again in his life. Even if he were to commit a crime, it wouldn't bring his wife and daughter back.
He roared like a wild beast, lunging at the leader of the thugs. His hunched body suddenly unleashed tremendous strength, slamming the burly thug to the ground.
The driver, tears streaming down his face, roared and grabbed the thug by the neck, turning to Reeves and shouting:
"Run! Run!"
However, he was still too thin and weak. The thugs quickly pinned him to the ground, pulled out a dagger from their waist, and stabbed him in the chest with a fierce look in their eyes!
Just then, a sharp glint of light flashed, and with a muffled hiss, the blade sliced straight through the flesh.
The thug was still in the posture of stabbing down with his knife when suddenly a hand holding a dagger flew past his eyes.
He was startled at first, then looked at his wrist with trembling eyes—it was empty, and blood was gushing from the cut.
Levi, standing to the side, held a knife in one hand and supported himself on the ground with the other, his whole body hunched over, his eyes filled with sorrow.
The other thug froze instantly, only reaching for his weapon in a panic when his companion's piercing scream exploded in his ears. But Levi's arched figure had already shot forward, the sharp dagger flashing upwards like a gust of wind, slicing viciously across his neck. His head rolled off, blood gushing out like a fountain.
The thug with the severed hand howled in agony, staggering backward while bracing himself on one hand, his eyes filled with terror as if he were looking at a demon when he looked at Reeves.
But the next moment, Levi leaped up nimbly, his dagger piercing precisely into the man's temple. With a twist of his wrist, the dagger churned violently inside the skull, turning the red and white contents into a paste.
The two thugs died like dead dogs, their bodies lying haphazardly on the ground.
Levi stood amidst the blood, his eyes filled with sorrow, not anger.
He looked at the coachman who was lying on the ground, his face full of shock. The coachman who had kidnapped him for his wife and daughter, yet had painted a crimson moon on his face to bless him.
He slowly walked towards the coachman.
The driver trembled and slowly took a few steps back, then seemed to give up on survival, closing his eyes in fear.
But Levi gently helped the coachman up and whispered:
"I'm sorry, I can't save your wife and daughter right now."
The coachman was stunned, staring blankly at Rivi.
Reeves helped him into the driver's seat, then got into the passenger compartment himself.
"Go to No. 32 University Street, the Tingen City Women Teachers' Mutual Aid Association..."
It took the driver a few seconds to recover from his shock, and cloudy tears streamed down his face.
He flicked the reins and drove the carriage toward University Street.
Half an hour later, the carriage arrived at the three-story building at No. 32 University Street.
Reeves slowly stepped down from the carriage, took out a one-pound note, and handed it to the coachman.
The driver trembled as he took the money, watching Rivery's departing figure with a complex expression.
He then muttered to himself and slowly began to draw the Crimson Moon.
Levi forced himself to climb to the second floor of the mutual aid society, where the oppressive feeling returned.
As he stepped onto the third floor, intending to go to Ms. B's room, the sense of oppression suddenly intensified.
That notarized document was like a barrier preventing him from getting closer to the third floor.
However, this sense of oppression was much weaker than when Levi wanted to go to the train station. He gritted his teeth and persevered, managing to reach the door of Ms. B's room.
He knocked gently on the door.
No one responded.
"Ms. B isn't here? Is she at the Flamingo Bar, busy with tonight's party?"
Levi felt a pang of disappointment; he had a premonition that if he went to the Flamingo Bar, he would be subjected to even harsher punishment from the Notary Book.
Just as he was about to leave, he heard a rustling sound from the window behind him, and a pleasant fragrance wafted into his nostrils.
Reeve turned around in surprise and saw a tall woman wearing a hooded black robe sitting there.
"Miss Cynthia!"
"I can't believe it!" Reeves exclaimed with joy, his eyes almost brimming with tears. Now, Ms. B was the only person he could rely on.
Ms. B smiled and spoke in a pleasant voice:
"What do you want from me?"
Her words exuded a captivating charm, which eased Levi's mind and gradually eased the pressure in his heart.
"Miss Cynthia..."
Reeves discovered that speaking to Ms. B did not trigger the punishment of the Notary Book, which gradually gave him confidence, and he tentatively began to speak:
"disaster……"
Ms. B watched him silently, adopting a posture of quiet listening.
"Descending..."
Levi tried uttering an even more sensitive word, and to his surprise, he was still not punished by the Notarial Book.
However, if we were to put it even more clearly, we would most likely be punished.
Just as Reeves was getting worried, Ms. B gently stroked a mirror that gleamed with a cold light and said with a smile:
"You look strange. Let me guess... Hmm... You weren't controlled by the Hyena Gang and made to swear an oath not to reveal anything detrimental to them?"
Chapter 58 The Awareness of Death
Ms. B's fair fingers caressed the mirror, and her red lips, not hidden by the hood, revealed a charming smile.
Reeves was stunned upon hearing this, followed by unexpected elation:
"Ms. B actually guessed my situation! Hmm, she's holding a mirror; did she find out through divination using a magic mirror?"
Reeve tried to nod slightly, then nervously waited for the terrible pain in his heart.
But a few seconds later, he was still unharmed.
His confidence soared, his eyes shone brightly, and he excitedly said to Ms. B:
"Miss Cynthia, what should we do?"
Ms. B smiled slightly, her tone gentle:
"You don't need to do anything."
Reeves was stunned for a moment, and after a few seconds asked in confusion:
"Nothing needs to be done? But they're about to..."
Ms. B continued to smile gently:
"You mean they're about to hold a ceremony? Then let them hold it."
Levi asked, puzzled:
"why?"
Ms. B's smile became even more alluring:
"Because we also want the ceremony to be a success, which would benefit us as well."
Reeves was completely stunned, his eyes filled with shock. After a long while, he asked incredulously:
"Then why did you let me..."
"Why did we send you to infiltrate the Hyena Gang? It was simply to have you gather intelligence so that we could gain more benefits after that great master arrives. You've done a great job."
Ms. B guessed the meaning behind every word Levi said and answered calmly, as if everything was under her control.
Reeve's body trembled slightly, and his voice even trembled a little:
"But many people will..."
"Many people will..."
He wasn't sure what kind of punishment he would receive if he said those words, but in this situation, he felt he had to speak out for the innocent victims.
A resolute glint flashed in Reeves' eyes as he said in a deep voice:
"Many people will become sacrifices, many people will die! Is that alright?"
After speaking, Levi closed his eyes tightly and silently awaited the pain of separation.
But nothing happened.
Ms. B was silent for a moment, a playful expression flashing across her lips:
"This is a necessary sacrifice."
Upon hearing this, Levi felt as if he had been struck by lightning. His heart was not punished by the Book of Notarial Justice, but his conscience squeezed it hard, leaving him still trembling.
Ms. B continued:
"Only by sacrificing a small number of people can we allow that great master to descend, and only then can we save more people. This principle is not complicated; you should understand it. The Hyena Gang is not the only one involved in human trafficking and running brothels. In Backlund, the capital of all cities, one-sixth of the women have worked as prostitutes, countless children have died of hunger in the slums, and countless workers have died of exhaustion in factories. Compared to the hundreds of millions of people who have died unjustly in this era, our sacrifices are utterly insignificant!"
Her tone grew increasingly fervent, and she raised her hands high, like an actor reciting a tragic epic.
Levi's eyes gradually became numb, and the turbulent conscience within him gradually fell silent.
"Yes, Ms. B is right."
"What kind of Dark Ages are these? What kind of Church? What kind of Seven Gods? Where were they when the common people were suffering? Let this world be destroyed, let the Great Master descend..."
Ms. B, seeing Reeves's blank expression, nodded in satisfaction and said:
"Go back and complete your mission well. Don't come looking for me again until that great master arrives."
"Ok."
Levi nodded slowly, turned around, and walked out of the three-story building step by step like a walking corpse.
He wandered aimlessly through the streets, and after an unknown amount of time, a sharp pain suddenly shot through his chest, and the black pattern on his chest burned intensely.
The burning sensation jolted Reeves awake. He paused for a few seconds, then realized something was wrong:
"I was persuaded by Ms. B's inflammatory words! I agreed with her!"
"No, this is the power of the instigator. Ms. B used her power of instigation to make me agree with her point of view!"
"If it weren't for the stinging pain from the tattoo on my chest, I would have stayed at the Kingfisher Bar as she instructed, until that evil god descended..."
