Once on the second floor, the space became much more spacious. There were about a dozen rooms on both sides of the corridor. Levi glanced around and found that most of the rooms seemed to be locked and unused, with only a few rooms displaying nameplates.

Holding onto the traditional Chinese belief that connections make things easier, Levi casually knocked on a door and asked if Ronan Keane was there.

"Mr. Ronan's office is on the third floor, the one furthest to the left. You can just push the door open and go in; he doesn't like people knocking."

A young woman answered Reeves' question enthusiastically.

After thanking them, Reeves and Emily arrived together at Ronan's office on the third floor.

Remembering the young woman's reminder, Levi pushed open the door.

The moment the door opened a crack, Reeves regretted it: he heard heavy breathing and seductive moans.

However, it was too late for him to stop, and he still managed to push the door open halfway.

Within sight, Mr. Ronan Keane, a middle-aged gentleman drenched in sweat, was engaging in unspeakable acts with an exceptionally beautiful woman.

Mr. Ronan was so engrossed in his work that he didn't realize two uninvited guests had arrived until he had stood frozen at the door for two seconds.

He looked up in horror at Reeves and Emily, then down at the beautiful woman with a seductive expression, his eyes filled with a mixture of regret and anger.

He practically roared at the beautiful woman:

"Cynthia! You forgot to lock the door when you came back from the bathroom!"

Huh? Is this the time to talk about this?

Reeve made his usual sarcastic remark, then realized they shouldn't linger, and quickly grabbed Emily's hand to make a run for it.

"Wait! Wait!"

Ronan shouted anxiously, hurriedly put on a coat, and went out to chase after Reeves and Emily.

Reeve and Emily exchanged a glance, thinking it would be too strange for them to just run away like thieves, so they simply stopped at the door to see what Mr. Ronan had to say.

"What are you here for?"

Ronan stood outside the door, closed it, and asked warily.

Reeves was conflicted. He didn't know if it was appropriate to ask Mr. Ronan to help Emily find a tutoring job, since he had just witnessed Mr. Ronan's embarrassing moment and might make him hold a grudge.

Emily, on the other hand, spoke up directly and frankly:

"Hello Mr. Ronan, I am looking for a tutoring job. I have heard that you are, well, an upright gentleman, so I have come to ask for your help."

Ronan breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing this and readily agreed:

"Okay, okay, no problem. I'll help you find a satisfactory job. Um, you guys go to the meeting room on the second floor and wait for a while. Come back up to me in half an hour. Remember, no one is allowed to tell anyone what happened just now, understand?"

His final tone carried a hint of threat mixed with pleading, and Reeves and Emily nodded in agreement, suppressing their laughter. Mr. Ronan then returned to his office with a sigh of relief, while Reeves and Emily went downstairs to the meeting room to wait.

Emily said to Reeves with a hint of amusement:

“Middle-aged men with a certain social standing are most afraid of being involved in scandals, so I think he will do his best to help me find a job.”

Reeves nodded in approval, and thinking of the unusually enthusiastic young lady, he couldn't help but feel a little embarrassed for Mr. Ronan: his infidelity should have been known long ago.

After waiting for half an hour, Reeves and Emily went upstairs together and arrived at Ronan's office door again.

This time, Reeves knocked politely on the door before entering, while Ronan, dressed in a suit and tie, looked like a true gentleman.

The entire conversation was very pleasant and relaxed. Mr. Ronan readily agreed to all of Emily's conditions and immediately spent a good ten minutes sifting through a vast amount of employer information to find a very suitable company, which he then thoughtfully introduced:

"This is a truly upper-class family. The master of the house, Mr. Teywat, is an importer and exporter, and the mistress is the daughter of a baron. Their daughter, Elizabeth, is a lovely fourteen-year-old girl attending the prestigious Ivory School. Mr. Teywat wishes to hire a young woman who is currently a university student as a governess, and they are offering two sules per hour."

"Two soles per hour! That's already a high price. If it's eight hours a day, five days a week, that's four pounds a week. That's middle class income. Of course, a governess probably wouldn't work that many hours a week."

Reeve silently pondered, feeling that Mr. Ronan had indeed introduced Emily to a good job.

Emily nodded in satisfaction, but then asked with some concern:

"This employer is offering such a generous salary, will they have very high requirements for teachers? I don't have any relevant experience, will I be able to get the job?"

“You have relevant experience, you often tutor me, and you explain things very well.”

Reeves chuckled, trying to smooth things over for Emily, which made Emily a little embarrassed. Mr. Ronan, however, adopted an air of having already done his best, saying:

“I’ll put in a good word for you, but whether you get the job depends on the employer’s interview. If you’re willing, I can give you Mr. Tewat’s address now, and you can go and give it a try. Also, I advise you to go sooner rather than later; a company with such good benefits might be snatched up by someone else at any time.”

Emily nodded repeatedly, got up to thank Mr. Ronan, and planned to go home to prepare for her interview at Mr. Teyvat's house as soon as possible.

Before leaving the support group, Emily went to the restroom. Levi stood at the door waiting, wondering what he could do to help Emily succeed in her interview.

"If only the power of persuasion borrowed from the mirror were still there."

He thought to himself with amusement, when suddenly a strong scent of perfume wafted into his nostrils.

Reeves turned his head in surprise and saw a tall woman leaning against the window, looking at him with a seductive gaze.

It was Cynthia, who had just been having an affair with Mr. Ronan.

Chapter 36 Infidelity

Reeves had seen quite a few beautiful women recently, but when he met Miss Cynthia, his heart was still pounding like a deer, and he was instantly filled with a desire to get close to her.

Fortunately, a sharp pain shot through his chest in time. He steadied himself and asked calmly:

"Is there anything I can help you with, ma'am?"

Cynthia looked Reeves up and down, her eyes softening with tenderness.

"I have something I'd like to ask you."

Her voice was so soft and melodious that Levi felt an urge to agree before she even said what it was.

"What is it?"

Reeve calmed himself down and asked cautiously.

Cynthia slowly leaned closer, her watery eyes revealing a hint of sorrow, and said pitifully:

"Please, please don't tell my fiancé what I saw today. He'll be disappointed in me!"

"So you already have a fiancé..."

Levi thought to himself, then nodded in agreement:

“I won’t tell you, I don’t even know who your fiancé is.”

Reeves wasn't one to meddle in other people's business, so he naturally wouldn't say anything, but at this moment, some strange movie plots suddenly popped into his head, like—Madam, you didn't want this either…

Despite receiving Reeve's assurance, Cynthia still frowned, and said with some concern:

“My fiancé looks somewhat like you, and I think you might know him. However, I haven’t seen him for a week, and I don’t know where he is now…”

"You look somewhat like me?" Levi asked curiously. "What's your fiancé's name?"

Cynthia sighed and said slowly:

“His name is Jason Garcia, and he also works for the mutual aid society.”

Levi was stunned.

What? Jason Garcia? Isn't that my brother?

He looked at Cynthia, whose face was full of sorrow, and couldn't help but tremble.

"Could it be that my brother got engaged to someone else behind my and Emily's back?!"

Cynthia noticed Reeves's unusual reaction and asked with some confusion:

"What, do you really know my fiancé?"

Just then, Emily came out of the bathroom and was taken aback when she saw Cynthia standing with Reeves. She walked over and asked:

"Revi, what are you saying to this lady?"

Cynthia turned her sorrowful gaze to Emily, but before she could speak, Levi grabbed Emily's hand and fled like the wind.

"Revi, what's wrong? Why did you suddenly run away?"

Emily, who was getting tired from being pulled along by Rivera, asked breathlessly.

"It's nothing. Isn't it awkward to chat with a woman who's having an affair?"

Reeves gave a few perfunctory replies, and Emily nodded without asking any further questions.

Back home, Emily immediately began preparing lesson plans for general education suitable for middle school students, etiquette for interacting with upper-class families, and appropriate attire for job interviews.

Levi remained in a gloomy mood, pondering what Miss Cynthia had said.

“Cynthia came to me on her own initiative, asking me not to tell her fiancé, which seemed a little deliberate, but it's also reasonable. She didn't tell me who her fiancé was on her own initiative; rather, I asked her after my curiosity was piqued. So, there's no possibility that Cynthia was playing a prank…”

At this moment, Emily finished dressing and grooming. She wore a simple, fitted white dress, her long hair tied into a ponytail and hanging down her back. She carried a neat stack of paper documents under her arm, making her look neat and capable, with the air of a teacher.

"How is it? Does it look good?"

Emily circled around in front of Reeves, waiting expectantly for his evaluation.

"It suits me perfectly, I almost want to call him teacher."

Reeve clapped his hands in praise, which made Emily smile happily.

She glanced at the time on the mechanical clock on the wall and said:

"It's already five o'clock in the afternoon. It's too late to go to Mr. Teyvat's house now. Let's go tomorrow morning. Tomorrow is Sunday."

Reeve nodded:

"Okay, I'll go with you tomorrow morning."

Emily, however, raised her finger and shook it:

“I think I should go by myself. Bringing a male companion to the interview makes it seem like I don’t trust the employer.”

"But your safety..."

Reeve instinctively worried that Emily might be in danger.

Emily smiled nonchalantly:

"Don't worry, Mr. Teyvat's house is in a safe and wealthy area on Red Moon Street. Besides, I might have to work as a tutor every day from now on. You can't possibly take me every day, can you? There are some things I have to face on my own."

"OK then……"

Reeves hesitated for a moment, but then agreed to Emily's idea. He knew that Emily was not as weak as she seemed; she was a strong woman.

More than Emily, Reeves is now worried about Jason's 'fiancée'.

"It's still early, I'll go for a walk."

Levi made up a random excuse to go back to the mutual aid society and see if he could find Miss Cynthia to have a detailed talk with her.

"Okay, I'll prepare dinner at home and come back early."

Emily smiled gently and gave her instructions.

Reeves felt a pang of heartache and cursed inwardly:

"Jason, Emily is such a wonderful woman! If you dare to do anything to betray her, I'll tell the whole world that you're cross-dressing!"

Levi went out and returned to the small building at 32 University Street.

By this time, most of the mutual aid society's staff had already left work. Levi knocked on several doors, but no one answered.

Just as he was wondering if he would see Miss Cynthia today, the strong scent of perfume wafted into his nostrils again.

Levi looked up and saw Miss Cynthia standing by the window at the top of the stairs leading to the third floor, gazing out with a melancholy look.

Levi took a breath and walked over with steady steps.

Hearing Reeves approach, Cynthia turned to look at him, her expression somewhat weary, and asked:

"You're here again? Is there news about my husband?"

Levi said after careful consideration:

"Not at the moment, but perhaps I can keep an eye out for you. Um... when did you and your fiancé get engaged?"

Cynthia said without hesitation:

"About six months ago, my fiancé was a gentle, brave, and kind man. Although his family was not well-off, I fell hopelessly in love with him."

Cynthia was dressed in a luxurious and elegant manner, with a diamond-encrusted necklace hanging down her chest—clearly, she came from a wealthy family.

Levi's heart sank even further.

Just as Reeves was lost in thought, Cynthia spoke up again, slowly:
