Chapter Fifty: Straight Down into the Abyss

The Third Prince was so annoyed that his brows furrowed into a deep frown, and he finally lost his patience.

With a flick of her right hand, she grabbed the shoulder of the nearest servant, tripped him, and sent him sprawling to the ground.

She then turned and swept her leg, kicking another servant who lunged at her three zhang away. Her movements were swift and clean, without any external spiritual energy; it was purely the explosive power of her physical body.

With a kick and a punch, the rhythm was extremely fast, and in just a few breaths, all seven or eight servants were knocked to the ground, lying scattered in disarray.

She dusted off imaginary dust from her hands, strode over to Mu Tianmiao, and stood in front of him, a triumphant smile playing on her lips.

"I originally thought this trip was just a picnic, but I didn't expect so many unexpected changes. Now, it's much more interesting."

As soon as she finished speaking, an aura of a perfected Golden Core cultivator burst forth from her body without reservation. Her spiritual power was so profound and her foundation so solid that it was comparable to Mu Tianmiao's.

The surrounding crowd, which had been whispering, immediately fell silent, and countless eyes focused on her.

Mu Tianmiao narrowed his eyes and looked her up and down.

Such momentum and foundation are comparable to those of the core disciples of major sects.

He remembered the Third Prince of the Dihao Royal Court!

After that, no one else stepped forward.

The rogue cultivators lowered their heads in silence. Disciples from several small sects avoided Mu Tianmiao's gaze, and the alluring female cultivators from the Hehuan Sect merely exchanged glances without speaking.

Mu Tianmiao withdrew her gaze and waved to the three people behind her.

"Let's go then. Four people are enough."

Before setting off, they each gave each other one last instruction.

Yuantong slammed the wooden stick on the ground, put his hands together, and made an awkward Buddhist gesture towards Nanshan Temple, grinning as he spoke.

"Fellow disciples, I'll be right back. If I don't return, remember to drink half a pot of osmanthus wine under my bed."

The monks from Nanshan Temple chanted a Buddhist prayer, both amused and exasperated.

Under the tearful gazes of the attendants of the Imperial Court, the Third Prince tossed the token from his waist, speaking as casually as if he were instructing them on what to have for dinner.

"Keep this safe. If I can't get out, tell my brother that no one is allowed to touch my things. Keep them all for me."

The servants held the token and wept bitterly.

Before Mu Tianmiao turned around, her gaze swept over the crowd and met the eyes of the junior sisters from the Immortal Shadow Sect for a moment.

One of the timid junior sisters already had tears in her eyes, and silently mouthed, "Senior Brother, be careful."

He nodded, said nothing more, and a sword light appeared beneath his feet.

Bai Lingyin stood at the front of the Qingyun Sect's group, her face still bearing that dignified and proper smile.

She looked at Yun Qingyao with a gentle tone, as if she genuinely cared about her fellow disciple.

"Then I'll have to trouble you, Senior Sister. I have to take care of my fellow disciples here, and I'm too busy to do anything else. I can only rely on you to scout ahead for us. I hope you return safely."

Yun Qingyao did not look at her.

As the sword light flashed, she followed Mu Tianmiao and flew towards the deepest part of the secret realm, never looking back.

Yuantong followed closely behind, riding on the swaying, earthy-yellow escape light, and didn't forget to wave to his fellow disciples at Nanshan Temple.

The Third Prince was the last to catch up, a long trail of golden spiritual energy trailing behind her feet.

The four of them, like four shooting stars, plunged headlong into the dark passage leading to the lowest level.

Four streaks of light swiftly traversed the dark cave, while red vines surged from both sides like a tide, only to be shattered into pieces by the sword energy and saber light swung out by Mu Tianmiao and the Third Prince from the left and right.

The dark green liquid splashed onto the cave walls, making a sizzling, corrosive sound.

After Yuantong cut off the net, he smashed the remaining vines with his bare hands, one by one.

Yun Qingyao provided support from the center, and the cold glint of the Qing Shuang Sword occasionally added a few precise sword energies.

Mu Tianmiao suddenly spoke while swinging his sword, his tone as casual as if he were chatting.

"Your junior sister's smile at you was really fake. What's her name again?"

"Bai Lingyin".

Yun Qingyao's voice was devoid of emotion.

Mu Tianmiao was stunned for a moment, and his sword almost missed its mark.

"Bai Lingyin from the list of beauties?"

He regretted it as soon as the words left his mouth, and his expression under the mask froze slightly for a moment.

Yun Qingyao did indeed turn to look at him, her peach blossom eyes filled with a hint of doubt.

"What list of beauties?"

Mu Tianmiao coughed lightly, looking straight ahead without changing his expression: "It's nothing, just saying."

The Third Prince, however, took the lead without any politeness, slicing through three attacking vines with a single stroke, his tone full of disdain.

"Ha, it's that thing that's circulating all over the world right now, right? It's about ranking all the female cultivators in the world, drawing their portraits, and commenting on them, like a list of beauties."

"To presume to comment on someone's appearance and add all sorts of frivolous remarks—what a bunch of shameless scoundrels!"

She spoke with righteous indignation, and the glint of her sword seemed even sharper than before.

Mu Tianmiao felt a little guilty after being criticized by the Third Prince with righteous indignation, and subconsciously raised her hand to touch her nose.

Fortunately, the mask covered half of his face, so the gesture of touching his nose wasn't too obvious.

Yun Qingyao, however, keenly noticed this detail.

Although the two of them only spent one night together, she remembered every little thing he did that night very clearly.

When he feels guilty, he touches his nose; when he's smug, the corner of his mouth curls to the right; when he's lying, his eyes will glance to the left before looking directly at the other person.

That rascal, secretly looking at the list of beauties, seems he's not so upright after all.

Her eyes narrowed slightly, and her lips unconsciously pursed.

The four of them walked down the cave.

The passage slopes downwards, not very steep, but has many branches. Every few hundred feet you fly, you'll encounter several forks in the road.

The cave walls were covered with those dark red vines, and if you weren't careful, you would miss the details of the side paths.

Without a map or any guidance, the four of them could only rely on their intuition to find their way, and ended up in several dead ends.

Some passages end at collapsed rubble, while others are dead ends completely blocked by vines.

There was another fork in the road, and after flying for a while, they realized they had gone in circles and returned to where they started.

Finally, the four of them landed on a flat piece of land.

This is no longer a sloping ramp, but a relatively open platform with smooth bluestone slabs on the ground. It is completely different from the rough rock walls of the previous natural caves and is obviously man-made.

"This method of searching is not working."

Yun Qingyao frowned and looked around, then suddenly remembered something.

She reached into her collar and pulled out the little fox that had been dozing inside.

The little one had just peeked out from under her clothes, his two dark eyes still a little sleepy.

Its furry ears twitched, and it hummed at Yun Qingyao.

Everyone's attention was instantly drawn to the snow-white little pom-pom. Yuantong's eyes widened, and he broke his vow again by clasping his hands together and chanting a Buddhist prayer.

"Amitabha, this is too cute. I have never seen such a beautiful little fox in my life."

The Third Prince's eyes widened slightly. He wanted to reach out and touch it but was too embarrassed. He could only hide the knife behind his back and pretend that he wasn't charmed.

Chapter Fifty-One: Narrow Path Charm

Yun Qingyao held the little fox in her palm. The little creature curled up into a snow-white ball, its tail curling up to cover the tip of its nose.

Then, only two dark, round eyes were visible as they timidly surveyed their surroundings.

She gently scratched behind its ear with her fingertips, her tone unusually soft.

"I found Xiaoyu in the secret realm, but I searched through all the records and still don't know what race it is."

"Its sense of smell and spiritual perception far surpass those of ordinary spirit beasts. Let it try to guide the way."

The three surrounded them, and even the Third Prince couldn't help but move closer.

Xiaoyu felt four pairs of eyes staring at her, her ears twitched, and she shrank closer to Yun Qingyao's palm.

Yun Qingyao whispered a few words of comfort before the little guy poked his head out, his pink nose gently sniffing the air.

A moment later, it stood up from Yun Qingyao's palm and nudged its nose in one direction.

The little paws made two gentle swipes in the air.

Mu Tianmiao looked in that direction and saw an inconspicuous side path at the edge of the platform. The entrance to the cave was narrower than the other side paths and was almost completely covered by dark red vines.

If Xiaoyu hadn't pointed it out, he would never have chosen this path.

"Let's go."

Mu Tianmiao took the first step and cleaved the vines at the cave entrance with a single sword strike.

The path was extremely narrow, allowing only one person to pass sideways. The cave walls were covered in slippery moss, and the stone slabs underfoot were uneven and pitted, so one could easily step into puddles if not careful.

The four people had to squeeze together, moving forward with their chests pressed against their backs.

Yuantong volunteered to lead the way, followed closely by the Third Prince, while Mu Tianmiao and Yun Qingyao lagged behind.

Mu Tianmiao deliberately slowed down, squeezing into the narrow passage with Yun Qingyao, their shoulders touching and arms rubbing against each other.

He knew he shouldn't be thinking about these things right now...

Who knows what dangers might be lurking deep within the cave...

But he couldn't help but move closer to her.

I don't know the two people in front of me well, Yuantong is a monk I just met, and I haven't even asked the Third Prince's name yet. I can't possibly squeeze in for them.

Yun Qingyao neither spoke nor moved away.

Her breathing was exceptionally clear in the confined space, and her chest rose and fell slightly with each step.

The little fox spirit Xiaoyu in her arms poked half its head out from her collar, its dark eyes staring curiously at Mu Tianmiao, its pink nose twitching slightly.

Instead of shrinking back timidly like it would with other strangers, it leaned forward, its little nose almost touching Mu Tianmiao's chin.

Mu Tianmiao was amused by its actions and smiled slightly, then reached out a finger and gently tapped the tip of its nose.

Xiaoyu sneezed, but instead of pulling back, she tilted her head, her ears twitched, and her dark eyes were filled with confusion...

Why does this person smell so good?

In its worldview, humans are either like the master's faint fragrance, or like the sandalwood scent emanating from that round-headed monk.

But this human smelled different. It was hard to describe, but it smelled good, making it want to get closer and sniff him a few more times, and ideally, it could take a nap on his shoulder.

It even reached out its claws and gently scooped him up in mid-air.

In fact, Yun Qingyao had also noticed it.

From the moment Mu Tianmiao approached, that indescribable aura wafted into her nose.

It wasn't the scent of a sachet, nor the fragrance of medicinal pills; it was the man's own scent, a scent that reminded her of that night every time she smelled it.

Her heart pounded faster than usual, and her ears burned in the darkness.

But Xiaoyu's behavior was really embarrassing.

Its two front paws reached out and scooped in the air towards Mu Tianmiao's direction, while its tail wagged like a rattle.

Yun Qingyao quickly pressed its head back into her collar, her cheeks slightly flushed, and let out a soft hum.

Mu Tianmiao saw this and a slight smile appeared on her lips. Knowing full well what was going on, she lowered her voice and asked.

"what happened?"

"nothing."
