Crossover: A Different Inuyasha
Page 41
The water god's voice was clear and melodious, carrying an inherent air of authority that could not be taken lightly. "I am the water god who receives the incense offerings of all people and controls the wind and rain of this region. How could I possibly cry and whine like a mortal woman?"
Her gaze slid from Feng's furrowed brows to his stunned and puzzled expression, sensing the spiritual energy fluctuations emanating from beneath his thin clothing.
Although not particularly strong, she is pure and virtuous, undoubtedly a priestess who practices martial arts.
The fact that a mere human priestess dared to speak so dismissively of a god as "she's about to cry" instantly shifted the water god's sense of defeat at the hands of Inuyasha.
The water god straightened his back even more, and the white ribbons on his sleeves moved without wind, unfurling in the moonlight like outstretched cloud wings.
She scrutinized Feng, a slight smile playing on her lips, her tone carrying an air of aloofness and condescension.
"Witch, now that you have seen the revered god, how dare you not worship?"
"Pray to your big head!"
Inuyasha retaliated with a sharp rap on the head, delivering a resounding "thud" to the Water God's forehead.
The water god's newly erected divine posture had barely stabilized before it was shattered by this blow.
She let out a soft "woof," covered her head, and squatted down, like a flower branch wilted by a downpour.
The water god looked up, the tears that had been forcibly suppressed in her eyes welling up again. Her eyes darted towards Inuyasha, her voice soft and timid, "N-don't hit me...I'm sorry, okay..."
Feng, watching from the side, twitched at the corner of his mouth.
The words "Now that I have seen the revered god, how dare I not worship him?" that were just spoken still carried the awe-inspiring air of a deity, but under Inuyasha's intimidation, they instantly shattered into a pathetic mess.
She secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
So this was the nature of the water god; he was both amused and exasperated.
"Alright, alright, it's the middle of the night." Feng took a few steps forward and reached out to stop Inuyasha's iron fist that was about to fall again.
"We can talk about it tomorrow. Now that you're here, you should rest for the night."
Upon hearing this, the water god, who was squatting on the ground, looked up at Feng with a grateful, tearful gaze, as if he had grasped a lifeline.
She stood up, brushed the grass clippings off her clothes, cleared her throat, and nodded solemnly to Feng.
"Witch, you are kind and reasonable, and I admire you greatly. From this day forward—you will be my High Priestess."
After saying that, he raised his hand, as if to place a blessing mark on Feng's forehead.
"And she even has a high priestess under her command."
Inuyasha grabbed the Water Goddess by the scruff of her neck and lifted her up like a cat.
"From now on, you'll be my flute-playing servant. Work properly and stop putting on airs like a god."
"Inuyasha!"
Feng put his hands on his hips, raised his eyebrows, and said, "Don't bully her! She's a water goddess, can't you show her some respect?"
"face?"
Inuyasha tilted his head and weighed the water god he was carrying in his hand. The water god was flapping its arms and baring its teeth at him, but dared not actually resist.
"What face does she have left in my eyes? She's been chopped off long ago."
The water god waved in Inuyasha's hand, looking at Kaede with a wronged expression, his eyes clearly saying—"Shrine maiden, you should do something about him!"
Seeing this, Feng sighed, rubbed his throbbing temples, and realized that he probably wouldn't be able to sleep tonight.
"Ouch."
Inuyasha raised an eyebrow at the Water God who still dared to seek outside help, "Once you fall into my hands, you'll be left with no one to turn to. Just accept your fate!"
Upon hearing such lewd words, the Water God sensed something was wrong and suddenly shrank in size. Taking advantage of Inuyasha's carelessness, he flew in the direction of the night wind and slipped into Kaede's open collar.
She huddled between the fabric and skin of Maple's chest, only half her head and a pair of bright eyes peeking out from the edge of her collar, and shouted at Inuyasha triumphantly.
"Come and arrest me if you dare!"
She was absolutely certain—this half-demon and the priestess had an extraordinary relationship.
A priestess who dedicated her life to the gods and the people—her collar is not a place where any monster can just reach and pluck.
Most importantly, you still have a purpose, and you can fight for your rights as much as possible without doing anything excessive!
"You—come out here!"
Feng's cheeks flushed red, even her ears turned a bright red, and she reached out to grab the little head peeking out from her collar.
"Witch."
The water goddess's voice came muffledly from her chest, carrying a hint of sly lightness.
"If you do anything reckless, I won't be so polite. As a priestess, you wouldn't want a half-demon to see things you shouldn't, would you?"
Feng's hand froze in mid-air, his movements as if paused, and the redness on his face deepened visibly.
She looked down at the Water God, whose face was half-revealed from her collar. Her eyes clearly showed a smug "See? I'm going to win," and a mischievous smile played on her lips.
Feng took a deep breath and slowly exhaled, his teeth itching so badly he wanted to bite someone.
“...ungrateful wretch.”
She squeezed out three words through gritted teeth, her voice a mixture of anger and amusement, as she sarcastically remarked, "You certainly know how to pick a place to hide."
"I am a god, and gods possess the wisdom to adapt to circumstances. You mortals should accept this."
The water god leisurely shook her head in front of her chest, and two tiny ribbons hung down from the edge of her collar, like two thin tassels, swaying gently with her movements.
Inuyasha crossed his arms, tilted his head, and watched the scene with great interest, commenting, "This water god certainly knows how to pick a spot."
"Shut up!" Feng shouted angrily, but only managed to kick empty air.
Inuyasha nimbly took a half step back, staring dangerously at the mini water god, "However, that is my inherent territory."
"What did you say?"
The water god didn't react for a moment.
Just as she was about to ask a few more questions, her vision suddenly blurred.
Inuyasha's hand moved as fast as a silver lightning bolt, his fingers carrying a wisp of energy that formed a fine breeze, as he slipped into Kaede's collar.
"what?!"
Before the water god could figure out what was happening, he was firmly pinched by two fingers and neatly pulled out from his collar.
She flailed twice with her limbs dangling in the air, her tiny figure swaying in mid-air. Just as she was about to shout "I surrender," she felt a tight grip on her palm.
A transparent barrier burst forth from Inuyasha's palm, enveloping her entirely in a palm-sized sphere of light.
Following the force of Inuyasha's casual throw, it flew towards the cherry blossom tree in the corner of the courtyard, which was blooming with light pink flowers, and got stuck between two intersecting branches.
The water god tapped twice through the barrier, like a firefly trapped in a glass jar, only able to stare blankly at the courtyard.
The cherry blossom tree swayed gently in the night breeze, and a few petals drifted down, landing on the surface of the barrier before being swept away by the wind.
"Inuyasha, the god you brought back is just as frivolous as you. How annoying."
Feng breathed a sigh of relief, only to see Inuyasha turn around and walk towards her with a wicked smile that she knew all too well.
That smile, tinged with three parts mischievousness, three parts self-righteousness, and four parts domineering "you can't do anything about me," was dazzling under the moonlight.
Feng straightened his collar, which had been disheveled by the Water God, and unconsciously stepped back.
"That's natural."
Inuyasha continued walking, his voice carrying a lazy laugh, "An unorthodox god paired with an unorthodox lord, plus a defiled priestess, isn't that just perfect?"
Feng took a few more steps back, his back pressed against a pillar, and only then did he realize that he had been forced under the eaves.
"It's been a few days since we last met, Feng. Your spirit dress awakening still needs a bit more magic power."
Inuyasha drew closer step by step.
"No."
Feng's voice was urgent and low, his gaze darting nervously towards the cherry blossom tree in the corner of the courtyard, "There are outsiders here..."
"What outsider?"
Inuyasha glanced in the direction of her gaze and saw the miniature water god trapped by the barrier lying on the barrier wall, clapping his little hands loudly, but the sound was completely blocked by the barrier, and not a single word could be heard.
The half-demon's smile deepened.
"Why can't I see it?"
"Inuyasha—!"
Before Feng could finish his protest, he was lifted up by a pair of strong arms.
The fabric of the fire rat fur brushed against her single garment, carrying the scent of the night breeze and fine dust, a warmth that made her heart flutter.
Her feet left the ground, and her vision suddenly changed from looking straight ahead to seeing Inuyasha's smiling jaw and his Adam's apple so close to hers.
"Put me down!"
"Don't let it go."
Inuyasha stepped over the threshold, hooked the door shut without looking back, and the door made a soft, muffled sound as it closed.
On the cherry blossom tree in the corner of the courtyard, the Water God rested his hands on the barrier wall, staring at the tightly closed door, his mouth opening and closing repeatedly.
"This, this... this is utterly absurd!"
She leaned back, hugged her knees, and slumped down inside the barrier sphere, her skirt spreading out into a small purple-pink flower.
My gaze fell on the house illuminated by candlelight. The light and shadow swayed on the thin paper, sometimes stretching, sometimes contracting, as if something was moving, intertwining, and undulating inside.
The water god's ears turned red.
"I am the mighty water god of this lake and this land, worshipped with incense for a hundred years, wielding the power of wind and rain, and receiving the homage of all people..."
She became increasingly guilty as she spoke, until her voice was barely audible, "How could I possibly be with a... a dog demon whose mind is only filled with lust?"
"And that seemingly proper, but actually not proper at all, Silver Priestess?"
She hugged her shoulders, a look of almost tragic worry appearing on her beautiful face.
"Then my chastity, which I've guarded for hundreds of years... is going to be ruined too?"
A night breeze blew by, and the cherry trees rustled as another shower of petals fell. The barrier sphere swayed among the branches, and even the water god's heart fluttered.
The water god was quiet for a moment, then his gaze involuntarily drifted to the paper window—the candlelight was still flickering, drawing an ambiguous and warm outline on the paper.
She stared blankly for a while, then suddenly buried her face in her knees and muttered, "...This is too much! Doing things that involve silver light, they don't even know how to do it in secret."
The moonlight was cool and clear, and the cherry blossoms were silent at night.
The thin morning sunlight spread across the eaves of Zenkenkyo, turning the night dew into tiny specks of light.
After standing quietly all night, the cherry blossom tree in the corner of the courtyard had fallen petals all over the ground, their pale pink hues adorning the bluestone and soil.
The door was gently pulled open from the inside.
Kaede emerged dressed in a neat shrine maiden outfit, white robes and crimson trousers, her hair neatly combed back into a bun, her complexion rosy and radiant.
As she closed the door behind her, she glanced back into the room—Inuyasha was still wrapped in his blankets, sleeping soundly on his back, his silver hair spread across the pillow, and his snoring could be faintly heard.
"Besides being a womanizer, he's a complete lazy dog. I'm really worried about his future."
Feng shook his head, but the corners of his mouth curved into a smile. He turned and walked towards the cherry blossom tree in the corner of the courtyard.
The water god was curled up at the bottom of the barrier sphere, hugging his knees with his arms, his head tilted to one side, and breathing evenly. He had obviously fallen asleep at some point after being extremely tired.
In the morning light, her beautiful face lost all its pride and mischievousness, revealing instead a childlike tranquility and peace.
'Should we silence them?'
Dangerous thoughts swirled in Feng's mind.
Then, she stood on tiptoe, stretched out her hand, and her fingertips, which were imbued with spiritual power, touched the outer wall of the barrier sphere. The barrier then made a very soft "pop" sound, like a bubble bursting, and turned into countless tiny fragments of light that scattered.
The water god's body sank down with this change and fell into Feng's clasped hands.
Feeling the weightlessness, the tiny figure moved slightly in the warm palm.
The water god opened his eyes groggily, and the first thing he saw was the cherry blossom canopy overhead, illuminated by the sunlight, followed by the drooping profile of the maple tree.
She blinked, then blinked again, and memories of last night flooded back like a tide.
