The empty stone coffin stood silently in the center of the laboratory, its cold light illuminating Amiya's dejected profile. She lowered her head sadly, gazing at the emptiness within the coffin, her voice trembling with a sob: "So...there's nothing there after all..."
This sadness was not entirely feigned. Amiya had been harboring grief since learning that Wang Chong had harmed Kal'tsit, and now, with the Doctor's disappearance, she finally found an outlet for her emotions.
"Don't be too sad, Amiya." Seeing this, Ace immediately stepped forward, gently patting her shoulder with his broad hand. His voice was deep but reassuring. "Doctor has been through a lot. He's a lucky person. He'll be alright."
Scout unloaded the musket from his back and lay down on the ground to examine it carefully, his sharp eyes sweeping over the ground and walls around the sarcophagus.
“I’ve checked. The signs of someone entering here are very fresh, no more than a day or two at most. That means the Doctor has been missing for a very short time. The Ursus troops were just repelled, so in such a short time they shouldn’t have had time to harm the Doctor.”
Scout stood up, paused, and continued his analysis:
"Even if the Ursus people discovered the Doctor, they would definitely find out his identity and the secrets of this place first. So there's a high chance the Doctor survived in Chernobog, but... where did he go?"
"This is really terrible..."
Misery kicked a pebble away with the tip of his boot in frustration, the clanging of metal particularly jarring in the silent space. He then turned to Logos beside him, a hint of expectation in his eyes: "Logos, do you have any magic that can track the Doctor?"
“Yes.” Logos nodded firmly, his expression serious. “But we need items that are directly related to the Doctor, such as… hair or something like that. Everyone, look carefully.”
These words were like a pebble thrown into a calm lake, instantly stirring ripples of hope in everyone's hearts. The elite agents immediately sprang into action, meticulously searching the ground, corners, and even inside the sarcophagus.
However, as time passed, the group searched almost the entire area but couldn't find a single hair that resembled the doctor's, or even any unrelated hairs.
Ace straightened up, looked at Logos, and asked with a last glimmer of hope, "Can't we just cast a spell on the place where the Doctor was? The Doctor has been lying in this sarcophagus for so long, there must be some traces that are invisible to the naked eye, right?"
“No.” Logos shook his head helplessly, his gaze fixed solemnly on the ancient stone coffin. “This stone coffin itself is problematic; it will severely interfere with my spellcasting… It’s best to be cautious with such pre-ancient relics.”
“Well…” Scout hesitated for a moment, then suggested another direction, “How about we go to that leader for help? Didn’t he say that we can go to him if we have any problems? About the Doctor’s matter.”
Upon hearing this, Fahai frowned: "The question is, should we make the Doctor's existence public? Wasn't Kal'tsit's previous reluctance to discuss this matter precisely to prevent the Doctor from being exposed?"
“I think we may all be caught in a cognitive bias.” Just then, Amiya’s clear voice interrupted the elite operators’ discussion.
"Amiya? What do you mean by that?" Fahai looked at her, puzzled.
Amiya's gaze swept over everyone, and she slowly spoke:
"What if... the Doctor has already been discovered by that leader? For example, what if the Doctor happens to appear in the sight of the residents of Chernobog after leaving the sarcophagus... or what if the Doctor was taken away by the Ursus army and then rescued by the people of Chernobog..."
Amiya paused for a moment, then continued her calm analysis: "In short, we must acknowledge one fact: Chernobog is now basically managed by the Integration faction. They may have already been aware of the Doctor's existence."
"Even if none of the above happens, and the Doctor remains undiscovered, which is more likely: the Doctor encountering us or the people of Chernobog? Given the Doctor's personality and situation, would he proactively seek help from the Reunion Movement?"
"So even if we can keep it a secret now, it's only a matter of time before the other side finds out about the Doctor's existence. And we're destined to come into contact with the Doctor later than the people of Chernobog and the Reunion Movement. Given that, exposing ourselves is no longer a concern."
Amiya's clear and logical explanation was like a ray of light, instantly dispelling the confusion in the minds of the elite operators. A look of realization dawned on everyone's faces.
"So, shall we go and question that leader now?" Ace asked, confirming.
“Yes.” Amiya nodded firmly. “I think honesty is the best option. Whether we’re asking them for help in finding the Doctor, or they’ve already found the Doctor and we need to negotiate with them… in either case, being open and honest will make things go much smoother later on.”
The deeper reason Amiya made this decision was that she had just received another communication from Wang Chong. Wang Chong told her that the "education" of Kal'tsit was nearing its end, the Doctor was about to awaken, and it was time to arrange the follow-up matters.
Now that everything was about to settle down, Amiya no longer needed to deliberately delay and led the elite operators away from the outer city area of Chernobog. As she led the team back to the outer city, she cautiously asked Wang Chong via telepathy, "Kal'tsit... is she alright?"
On the other end of the communication line, Wang Chong looked at Kal'tsit, whose tears were still wet, whose face held a strange satisfaction, whose expression was a "heh face," and whose body was covered in white fluid stains. He carefully considered his words:
"Well... how should I put it... she seems to be in a pretty good mood right now, and I think she must really regret why she kept going against me before."
“Ha…ha…” Amiya chuckled awkwardly on the other end of the communication, unsure how to respond to this ambiguous and unsettling description.
"Don't worry, Kal'tsit is generally fine."
Wang Chong's voice regained some of its composure:
"It's just that, like you and Theresa, she has to rely on me in some ways. As for her mental state... she'll recover with some rest."
"You'll understand once you come and confirm it yourself."
"I see..." Amiya sighed softly, unable to resist asking, "Teacher, is... is this the only way to convince Kal'tsit?"
“Amiya, I’ve said this before.” Wang Chong’s voice carried an undeniable tone, “She gave up her chance herself. If we don’t make her fully understand the despairing gap between us, she will never be content and will always try to do something underhanded.”
His tone turned serious: "Amiya, think long-term. The ultimate goal of our civilization is to deal with the cataclysm that could destroy everything."
“…I understand.” Amiya finally replied softly, her tone carrying both understanding and a hint of helplessness.
"Alright, now I'm taking this disobedient, silly cat to meet her old friend. See you later, Amiya."
After Wang Chong finished speaking, he cut off the communication and turned his attention back to Kal'tsit, who was slumped in her chair.
"Prismus, clean up the marks on her body," Wang Chong ordered calmly.
However, after waiting for a while, the expected cleaning process did not start.
"Prisus? What are you doing?" Wang Chong frowned and turned his head to look.
There, Precys was squatting on the ground, gently poking with his fingertip a crystalline cone that was soaked in white liquid and emitted a faint green light.
"Ah, sorry, Master!" Precys snapped out of his reverie and explained, "This thing just had an unusual reaction, and I was observing its condition when I got a little distracted."
"Isn't this the mon3tr that I smashed? It was just next to Kal'tsit's feet?" Wang Chong recognized the origin of the crystal at a glance.
“I see…I see…” Priss’s eyes gleamed with the light of discovery. She continued to inject Originium energy into the fragment. “Ama-10 (Kal’tsit) has actually evolved this ability. No wonder its form has evolved to be so similar to the characteristics of surface species.”
As energy was injected, the white liquid began to be absorbed by the crystal, and the green light on the crystal began to flash regularly.
"What exactly is going on?" Wang Chong asked curiously. "Is there any necessary connection between Mon3Tr and AMD-10, or rather, Kal'tsit?"
Chapter 411: The Strange Phenomenon of Mon3tr
“Master, you’ve misunderstood from the start,” Precys patiently corrected. “It’s not that this being called mon3tr has any necessary connection with ama-10. The truth is that mon3tr and Kal’tsit together constitute ama-10. Or rather, they are different manifestations of ama-10.”
Precys then further explained:
"The relationship between mon3tr and Kal'tsit is one of iteration and symbiosis... Well, how should I put it more clearly... We can assume that if Kal'tsit dies, then mon3tr can be seen as the next Kal'tsit."
"You mean...mon3tr is Kal'tsit's backup body? Or rather, a body used for resurrection?" Wang Chong frowned.
"To be more precise, it's a backup, not a so-called revival."
Precys emphasized:
"The ama-10 has evolved the ability to iterate. It can pre-cultivate a special crystal and selectively transfer a portion of its core capabilities and information to this crystal."
She pointed to the mon3tr reconstructed crystal on the ground and continued:
"Just like now, Kal'tsit has backed up all the knowledge, memories, and missions she has accumulated over ten thousand years in mon3tr. She has even transferred most of her power to mon3tr."
"The only thing that Kal'tsit's human form retains is the unique human thinking ability and intelligence that she does not possess in her mon3tr form."
"Therefore, ama-10 essentially split itself into two parts: one part is a monster form, which inherited all of its power, fighting instincts, and near-mechanical execution, and backed up its personality and memories."
"The other part is in human form, with a specialized way of thinking, becoming like the Terrans in how they view and think about all the problems they face, in order to walk in the world."
Based on this conclusion, Precys then began to speculate on the reasons for this evolution:
“I think the reason why ama-10 evolved this ability may be related to the wishes of the ‘prophet’—she hoped that ama-10 could truly observe and understand the world from a human perspective.”
"On the other hand, it is also very likely to be for the purpose of more effectively passing on the mission it has identified."
Precys added:
"It generates new individuals through iteration, allowing these new individuals to back up their consciousness and memories. In this way, when its human form subject encounters misfortune, this new individual can take over the subject's will, become the new ama-10 subject, and continue to carry out the unfinished mission."
"Moreover, in today's world where Originium Arts are prevalent, a combination like Kal'tsit and mon3tr can easily mislead uninformed people into thinking that defeating Kal'tsit herself is enough to defeat the opponent, thus completely ignoring mon3tr's independence and regarding it only as a creation of Kal'tsit's Originium Arts."
"But the truth is, if we want to completely destroy ama-10, simply killing Kal'tsit is not enough. We must thoroughly physically destroy this mon3tr that has retreated into a crystalline state after her death. Only in this way can ama-10 be considered truly dead."
After listening to Precys's explanation, Wang Chong's tightly furrowed brows slowly relaxed. He nodded thoughtfully and said:
"Now I understand a little better... Kal'tsit can be seen as the previous generation of Mon3Tr in some ways, right? If she has a codename, Kal'tsit is already called Mon2Tr?"
"This explains why she could be resurrected even though she was killed by Theresis. Does she not possess true immortality, but rather continue through the inheritance of her memories and personality on the vessel mon3tr?"
This deduction reminded Wang Chong of his old acquaintance, Black Snake, who also used a similar method to infinitely prolong his existence and influence.
So, it seems the reason why those so-called 'gods' on this land are immortal might be related to this inheritance mechanism?
“That’s right, you can understand it that way.” Precys confirmed Wang Chong’s guess, but then changed the subject, a smile of interest appearing on his lips, “However, now there’s been a little unexpected situation.”
"An accident?" Wang Chong's gaze sharpened.
“Well, normally, when Kal'tsit exists as the main body, the backup mon3tr wouldn’t actively transform into a human form like Kal'tsit,” Precys explained with a light laugh. “But according to my observations, it has now… begun to evolve into a human form.”
This unexpected turn of events instantly piqued Wang Chong's intense curiosity. He immediately pressed for an answer:
"You mean...it's going to turn into a human too? But how is that possible? How could such a change happen without Kal'tsit's permission or instruction?"
Precys analyzed, "Based on my observations, there are probably two key reasons. First, the evolution of a specific human morphological appearance requires the extraction and fusion of specific biological genes as templates."
Precys then provided further examples:
"Just like Kal'tsit, the reason she exhibits the characteristics of the Felin race is naturally because she absorbed and fused with genes related to the Felin race during her initial evolution... Perhaps she directly used the remains of a Felin race member as nourishment and blueprint."
"After all, creating a physical body out of thin air always requires a corresponding material basis."
“Just now, mon3tr was in a state of reconstruction after its structure collapsed.” Precys pointed to the crystal on the ground. “At this time, its thinking activity was at a very low level, completely following some kind of instinctive program, only responding to the most direct stimuli in the external environment.”
Her tone carried a subtle hint of teasing:
"And quite coincidentally, its reconstructed location was precisely below the area of closest contact between you and Kal'tsit. As a result, it was covered with the genetic material left there by the two of you."
"Think about it, when such a being in a state of reconstruction and with a chaotic perception of the outside world is completely enveloped by such a rich genetic material, what kind of underlying logic will be triggered?"
Precys didn't get any more explicit, but instead gave a knowing, mocking smile before proceeding to explain his second reason:
"Then, there is Kal'tsit's will, or to be more precise, her current subconscious state."
"Although Kal'tsit did not issue any instructions on the surface to require mon3tr to evolve, don't forget that during this time, her own subjective consciousness has long been completely submerged and obliterated by... well, the ultimate pleasure brought by 'reproduction'."
Precys carefully chose his words and continued:
“Deep in her instincts and subconscious, all that remained was the most primal desire—the desire to be conceived and to continue life. This overwhelmingly strong subconscious desire, through the special connection of their symbiotic relationship, affected mon3tr, which was in a sensitive period of reconstruction.”
"This led mon3tr's instinctive judgment system to an absurd conclusion: at this moment, it should evolve as a child of Kal'tsit."
"Finally, I naturally gave this a little help after discovering this phenomenon. I quietly adjusted the core mindset of mon3tr during the reconstruction process."
Precys winked slyly, a hint of self-satisfaction in his eyes, and continued:
"No longer defining it as Kal'tsit's successor or backup, but rewriting its core identity as Kal'tsit's offspring..." (The rest of the text appears to be a fragmented and nonsensical collection of characters and phrases, possibly from different sources.)
"In this way, mon3tr can successfully bypass certain permission restrictions set by Kal'tsit when it is the main body, and carry out independent life evolution just like humans naturally giving birth to offspring."
She added with a slight smile, "However, this process did not happen inside Kal'tsit's body, but outside the body, through crystallization and reconstruction."
"……and many more!"
Wang Chong frowned sharply, as if he had finally fully digested and understood this complex information. He pointed to the changing crystal on the ground, then hesitated before pointing to himself, and tentatively asked:
"You mean... mon3tr absorbed and fused with my and Kal'tsit's genetic material, and then, with the self-awareness of being 'Kal'tsit's biological daughter,' is undergoing life evolution?"
"Then... what about me?" His tone was incredulous. "What am I to this soon-to-be-born mon3tr...?"
Precys couldn't help but chuckle, letting out a crisp laugh: "Master, you're just asking the obvious! Of course you're mon3tr's real dad!"
Chapter 412: Mon3tr became my daughter?
However, Wang Chong's face did not show much joy. Instead, he seemed to have encountered a huge problem, and he held his forehead in great distress.
"Sigh... Because there's an Albion in the family who's good enough to be my daughter, Irisviel and Jeanne Alter are constantly nagging about having children... And now, out of nowhere, there's another mon3tr! And that's not all, it also has a mother associated with it—Kal'tsit!"
Wang Chong could already picture the relentless faces of Irisviel and the others in his mind, and he felt even more troubled.
"I can't even imagine what would happen if I didn't get them pregnant. They might really team up and pin me down on the bed, even if it meant exhausting themselves to death on me, they just had to get the child..."
At this point, Wang Chong's gaze couldn't help but fall on Kal'tsit, who was still unconscious beside him, his eyes filled with complex suspicion:
"This old lynx... could it really be my nemesis? I just wanted to teach her a lesson and make her obedient and submissive... how come I ended up with a child out of nowhere while I was teaching her?"
He couldn't help but mutter to himself, "They said retribution, and it's already here? That's way too fast..."
"...I don't think this is retribution at all, Master. Aren't you overthinking it?"
Precy tried to comfort him, her tone light: "You're here, Lin's here, you're here, Lin's here, but not here..."
"Isn't it something to be happy about when a lovely and promising child is born? Besides, in the long run, this might become an important bond that completely binds Kal'tsit to you and allows her to establish a deeper connection with you."
"You don't understand... Never mind, it's no use explaining it to you. Since what's done is done, we can only let nature take its course."
Wang Chong knew very well that he still had some unresolved matters to attend to, and he was far from being able to settle down with his wife and children. Therefore, he essentially extinguished the seeds of his magic power every time he tried to replenish them.
Only after most things are over will he consider settling down and having children.
Now, mon3tr is actively extracting its own genetic content for evolution. Although it is well aware that with its current strength, mon3tr can probably only decipher the genome sequence of the external appearance, and cannot completely inherit its entire physique.
But it did inherit some of its own traits from the past, and like Albion, it was indeed, to some extent, its own child.
