Litty skipped and hopped to open the door, and a few seconds later, Lucy and Louis walked into the living room.
“I bought some beer,” Lucy said, carrying a case of beer. “Jiang Zhengge! You lost the bet today, don’t try to renege on it!”
"I won't renege on my debt, don't worry." Jiang Zhengge's muffled voice came from the kitchen.
"What bet did they make?" Lin Chen asked Li Zhanyi.
"As for what happened in the ruins, Lucy said she could handle the physical milk tea shop," Li Zhanyi chuckled. "Jiang Zhenge insisted she couldn't, so the two of them made a bet."
"What kind of bet? The loser drinks?"
"No, the loser has to wear a maid outfit and work as a bartender in the department office for a day."
Lin Chen was petrified.
By the time he realized what information he had received, his brain could no longer forget it.
Stop thinking like that!
But Jiang Zhengge, dressed in a maid outfit, still entered his mind, gracefully lifting her skirt to bow.
Stop thinking about it!

Chapter 113 Victory Celebration Banquet (Fifth Update)
This was Lin Chen's first gathering since graduation.
Of course, the dinner with Shen Xuanyi couldn't really be considered a gathering, since there was a pitifully thick barrier between him and the rich young lady, making him extremely reserved during the meal.
Everyone here is a colleague, so there's nothing to be shy about.
Just eat!
"cheers!"
Raindrops pattered against the security windows, and the darkness of night crept up the walls of the apartment building, only to be dispelled by the warm orange light from inside the rooms.
Lin Chen picked up his Coke, and the group clinked glasses before downing it in a lively atmosphere.
The table was covered with all kinds of takeout food, both Chinese and Western, you name it.
Lin Chen hadn't felt such a harmonious atmosphere in a long time.
At the table, Jiang Zhengge and Lucy started a new round of betting: who could drink the other under the table. If Jiang Zhengge won, he wouldn't have to be a maid, and if Lucy won, Jiang Zhengge would have to be one for a week.
After finishing her drink, Li Zhanyi went to the children's table. She watched the movie with two children and acted as their narrator.
Louis seemed preoccupied, drinking and eating alone, not really joining in the atmosphere.
Professor Jürgen, on the other hand, was all smiles and looked radiant.
"Professor, what's making you so happy?" Lin Chen couldn't help but ask.
“My former boss at the foundation sent me a letter,” Professor Jürgen said with a slight smile. “He told me that research on ‘subspace insomnia’ might be restarted in a while as part of a charitable project.”
Charity projects...
Lin Chen suddenly felt that the ultimate classic had arrived.
If you do something bad, donate some money, or donate some money before doing something bad. As long as you do that, you've done something wrong and made a contribution.
Is the foundation running out of ideas?
“I know what you’re thinking. The foundation is indeed too hypocritical,” Professor Jürgen chuckled. “But this way, I can lead more projects and advance more research before I retire.”
"Are you leaving the Investigation Bureau?" Lin Chen asked.
“How could that be? We’re just collaborators,” Jürgen quickly shook his head. “To be honest, I don’t think they’re very sincere. The amount they approved isn’t large, and they can only do some supplementary research at most. But in any case, it’s a contribution to the research on insomnia.”
“They probably just want to cover up the scandal,” Louis joined the conversation. “Charitable research… Even if I take a step back, I don’t believe the foundation is that kind-hearted. It’s probably the same as before, using them and then discarding them.”
"Yes... My project was canceled because it wasn't profitable enough to provide any benefits to the foundation's puppet companies."
Jürgen shook his head slightly:
"To be honest, I'm starting to feel lost too. I've been forgetting things lately, and I get flustered when there's a lot to do. Maybe in a few years, I won't be able to stay in the lab anymore. An old guy with a fuzzy head will only hold the younger generation back..."
"Sigh...maybe I'm destined not to be able to give Litty a healthy childhood."
“You’ve done enough,” Lin Chen quickly said. “Liti won’t blame you.”
Professor Jürgen smiled gratefully at Lin Chen and held up his can of cola:
"Thank you, Kobayashi. I haven't met such a nice young person like you in a long time."
"You've helped me a lot; what I did was only what I should do." Lin Chen clinked glasses with Professor Jürgen.
At this moment, Jiang Zhengge pulled Professor Jürgen into the drinking party, and the section chief, shaking his head, shouted:
"Lucy's a total noob! She's not good enough for me! All of you come at me!"
"Lin Chen! You're here too! Aren't you good at killing demigods? Today, I'll kill you at the dinner table!"
"Boss, I don't drink." Lin Chen smiled.
"Haha! Jurgen, come on then! Let me see what you're capable of!"
"..."
"Did you know that if an ordinary person refuses to drink with their superiors at a banquet, they'll be given a hard time the next day?"
Lin Chen turned his head and saw Louis smiling and looking at him.
He chuckled softly and picked up his Coke cup:
"Generation Z is reshaping the workplace."
"Not every Gen Z can manage the workplace..."
Louis and Lin Chen clinked glasses:
"I graduated from Rain University, after all. As a non-psychic awakened individual, being able to get into the First Department means my professional skills must be quite impressive, right? But on my very first day, Section Chief Marcusco of the Second Department gave me a hard time and tricked me into drinking..."
Zhan Yi seemed to have mentioned this before... Lin Chen recalled his first encounter with Marcus.
Classic workplace bullying.
“I really hate this system,” Louis shook his head, “but I have to accept it. There’s no way around it; that’s just how the jungle works.”
“You’ve done better than most people, Louis,” Lin Chen said. “Your intelligence and technical capabilities are the foundation of our operation.”
“But there’s no way I can do better than you…” Louis shook his head. “There are very few people like you who can disregard the rules.”
Louis chuckled softly and turned to look at the sofa.
Li Zhanyi was screaming with two little girls; they seemed to be watching a horror movie.
Louis picked up the Coke bottle to pour it, but after hesitating for a moment, he opened a bottle of beer instead.
“You know what, at first I wanted to be roommates with Zhanyi,” Louis poured himself a full glass. “After all, we both get caught up in the rain, and living together would help us bond as colleagues, plus it would be much safer.”
"But you don't live here," Lin Chen said, taken aback. "Why?"
“I spoke with Section Chief Jiang, and he went to ask Zhanyi about it.”
Louis picked up his glass, took a sip, and wiped his mouth.
"Zhanyi refused."
She said she wasn't very good at socializing, didn't like living with others, and preferred to have more of her own space.
"Section Chief Jiang advised me, saying that Zhanyi is just like that. She seems cheerful on the surface, but actually prefers to be alone."
Louis looked up at Lin Chen and smiled helplessly.
"As soon as you arrived, she agreed to be your roommate."
These words left Lin Chen feeling somewhat embarrassed.
Seeing that he didn't speak, Louis quickly spoke up:
"I don't mean to nitpick, I'm just saying that you are indeed... a little different."
"Perhaps." Lin Chen nodded slightly.
"You only realize how amazing it is when you enter the workforce... There are always people more capable than you, and the sky's the limit..." Louis shook his head self-deprecatingly. "For an ordinary person like me, I still have to work harder to have a chance to climb up the social ladder."
After saying that, Louis joined Jiang Zhengge's drinking party and began to toast Jiang Zhengge.
Lin Chen sighed softly, suddenly feeling that the noise of the party was very far away from him, and even the lights seemed to be stretched out.
In the elongated light, he saw a figure get up and walk towards the door.
It was Li Zhanyi.
What is she going out to do?
Lin Chen wiped his mouth, stood up, and walked towards the door.
He planned to go outside for some fresh air.
......
Chapter 114 Pomelo Blossoms (First Update)
As soon as I stepped outside, the dampness of the rain mixed with the fragrance of flowers wafted towards me.
Also coming into view was the girl's slender back.
Wrapped in pink pajamas, Li Zhanyi looked even smaller than usual. Her long, black hair, which was usually tied in a single ponytail, was now casually draped over her shoulders, as smooth as flowing water.
Hearing the door open, Li Zhanyi turned around and gave Lin Chen a faint smile.
"I'm coming out for some fresh air," she said softly. "It's so hot inside."
Lin Chen walked to Li Zhanyi's side and looked out at the night rain in the corridor with her.
"What flower smells so good?" He took a sniff.
"It's a pomelo tree; it smells wonderful every night."
Li Zhanyi raised his head, took a deep breath, and revealed a satisfied expression.
"I'm fine, it's just that there are too many people, and I'm not used to it," Li Zhanyi glanced at Lin Chen, "I'll feel better after coming out for some fresh air."
"I'm afraid you've been invaded by consciousness," Lin Chen said with a smile.
"Come on," Li Zhanyi nudged Lin Chen lightly with her elbow, "After you took down Bai Duozhi, are you now capable of mind intrusion too?"
"How did you notice that..."
“Hey, I’m not stupid,” Li Zhanyi chuckled. “If you don’t realize it once, if you don’t realize it twice, how can you not realize it three times?”
“I haven’t tried it yet,” Lin Chen shook his head. “However, I don’t think I can do what Bai Duozhi does, like having my soul leave my body and fly around.
"Will it be a little weaker?" Li Zhanyi asked curiously.
"Yeah, more or less," Lin Chen nodded. "After all, I'm just a human, I don't have the physical strength of a demigod."
"Alright, that's already pretty impressive," Li Zhanyi said with a grin. "Without you, our investigation might not have gone so smoothly."
Then, the two remained silent for a while, simply gazing at the drizzle outside the window.
"Did Louis say something bad about me to you?" Li Zhanyi suddenly asked.
"Hmm?" Lin Chen turned his head. "You heard that?"
"Part of it, I was pouring drinks for Huihui and Liti at the time," Li Zhanyi said, a little unhappy. "What did they say about me?"
"He said you don't want to be his roommate," Lin Chen said honestly. "Really?"
"Yeah...yes."
Li Zhanyi rested his chin on his hands, leaning against the edge of the balcony.
“But it wasn’t really targeting him,” she said. “That’s just how people are. They can be crazy and eccentric outside, but when they get home, they need to be alone to recharge, otherwise they’ll feel really bad.”
“I understand,” Lin Chen nodded. “I’m pretty much the same. I was the only one in my university dorm who installed a bed curtain.”
“My situation is worse than yours; I can’t even stay in a dorm!” Li Zhanyi blinked. “So it’s really not about him; I like being roommates with everyone equally!”
"Then why are you my roommate?" Lin Chen tilted his head slightly.
Lin Chen's question was so direct that Li Zhanyi was caught off guard and her throat tightened slightly.
"Well..."
