At the same time, Hua Molan continued:
"No, we can't get in touch with the Rapid Response Division... In any case, tell Mayor Buendía that if the situation gets out of control... hopefully, it's not too late for the collapse..."
Collapse.
"What are you waiting for...?" a voice echoed in Louis's mind. "The Secret Service is about to act! The rain will be destroyed! History will be reset!"
Louis doesn't remember exactly what he did.
When he came to his senses, Hua Molan was lying on the ground, riddled with 5.56mm bullets in her back, blood gushing out.
He grabbed Hua Molan's head, dragged her behind the director's desk, and tossed her onto a chair.
"Uh..."
Hua Molan looked at Louis with a pained expression, and the moment she saw the dark blue in his eyes, she coughed up a mouthful of blood.
"It's you..." she murmured softly, "I thought...you would make the right choice..."
"What is right...is collapsing the entire history right?"
Louis stared at Hua Molan, his hands trembling slightly.
Upon hearing this, Hua Molan was slightly taken aback, then shook her head.
"You know things you shouldn't know..." Hua Molan closed her eyes, "...and that affected your judgment..."
I shouldn't know.
Louis felt a rush of blood to his head.
They always treat him like a nobody who doesn't deserve to know anything, like a dog they can order around at will!
Hua Molan, Mr. Z, they are exactly the same!
"Look who's going to die now, Hua Molan."
Louis casually picked up the antique dagger on the table and raised it high.
"None of you will be able to cause any more trouble..."
With a sudden burst of strength, he plunged the dagger into Hua Molan's heart—
"Pfft!"
......
Chapter Twenty-Eight: Returning Home
“You seem to distrust me and don’t think I would tell you about the foundation’s plans.”
Seeing the look in Louis's eyes, Mr. Z smiled.
"But the fact is, your actions did delay the Secret Party's actions for us and successfully eliminated Triton, an unstable pawn, so the Foundation will always remember your contributions."
“Don’t think I approve of you,” Louis said in a low voice. “We all know what Rain City has become. Under the Foundation’s rule, it has become a breeding ground for fear.”
"Really? Is it under the control of the foundation?"
Mr. Z stood up and paced back and forth beside Louis's bed.
"Does the foundation really have the capability to do all this?" he said. "Most of our forces have already gone into the air, and all that's left on the ground are people like me... low-level staff."
"What turned Pearl Beach into a dictatorial kingdom? Wasn't it the pitiful Iron Face? Wasn't it K, who was secretly plotting?"
"What turned Xiwang District into a purgatory beneath the tower? Wasn't it the brutality of your investigators?"
“Those investigators are just fighting against the Liberation Front,” Louis said in a low voice.
"Then why does the Liberation Front exist?" Mr. Z laughed. "To put it bluntly, when order disappears, the evil in people's hearts blossoms and freely scatters spores in the air."
"These spores took root and sprouted on the scorched earth, forming a sea of flowers, which is the world you see before your eyes."
"Don't you think this kind of world is beautiful? Primitive, authentic, free..."
“Only a madman would think such a world is beautiful,” Louis said softly.
“It’s better than history being reduced to ruins,” Mr. Z shrugged. “Don’t worry, this is actually the kind of world the Secret Party would prefer to see. What the Father seeks is absolute order, and that order will soon be achieved in the near future.”
A world of order.
Louis closed his eyes and exhaled deeply.
He suddenly felt that he had gone very, very far, speeding along a road he wasn't even sure was right, until he reached this crossroads that he couldn't let go of.
He recalled the days when he was a child, his eyes would light up as he watched documentaries about Yudu. That was his only reason for studying hard and his only spiritual support in the first half of his life.
He always felt that as long as he got into Yuda University and became a part of Yudu, he could do more for this prosperous and beautiful city.
But when Louis actually stepped into the rainy city, he discovered that it was not a prosperous modern metropolis at all.
Like Paris in Baudelaire's writings, this city, beneath its surface prosperity, harbors a breeding ground for corruption.
She was a sickly beauty, with signs of decay spreading beneath her flawless skin. All desires and sins were hidden behind the rain, appearing and disappearing in the shadows.
He wanted to do something for Yudu; that was his original intention.
Finally, it seems he has a way to do something about his original aspirations.
“Tell me what to do next,” Louis said softly.
“Rest for a few days first. You need to be able to walk, right?” Mr. Z said. “Once you regain your mobility, we’ll take all the troops and head to the Silver District.”
"The Silver District?" Louis frowned. "What are we going there for?"
"Of course... to give Yudu an ending."
Mr. Z's lips curled up slightly.
"It's time to bring this story to a close."
......
“Louis’s computer contains a large amount of data showing that the Bureau of Investigation had sent a team to cooperate with the Foundation to conduct a secret reconnaissance operation through the Liberty District to the Silver District.”
In the operations command center, everyone gathered around the computer, listening to Hua Luori's analysis.
"Through covert infiltration, they seem to have established some assets in the Silver District, paving the way for some clandestine operation."
"Baiyin District..."
Lin Chen turned his head and exchanged a glance with Jiang Zhengge.
They both knew what the other was thinking.
“The only road to Black Star VI is through Xilena’s secret launch site,” Lin Chen said in a low voice. “The Foundation is obviously stationed at that site and not letting anyone in.”
"It's not that simple."
Jiang Zhengge shook his head:
“Remember what Bruce said? They planned to use sapphire as a guide to destroy Rain City with space-based weapons. But as I see it now, it’s not Rain City they’re trying to destroy.”
"You mean, they want to destroy that secret launch site?" Hua Molan frowned.
“Destroying Yudu is just a side price to pay,” Jiang Zhengge said softly. “After all, this city has become a dispensable pawn in the Foundation’s strategy. Whether to destroy it or not is just a matter of a word.”
These words sent a chill down everyone's spine.
"Time is running out," Li Zhanyi said softly, "Oh God..."
“Don’t worry, there’s still some information here,” Hua Luori said quickly. “Perhaps we have more time than we think.”
After Hua Luori finished speaking, a piece of intelligence was sent to his laptop.
Lin Chen looked at the screen and read aloud softly:
"The Foundation is acquiring large quantities of the azure substance left behind by demigods who died during the chaos in Rain City. Most of this substance has been transported to the Liberty District and used by gangs for human experimentation..."
"The most recent acquisition dates back to... yesterday?"
“The purpose of acquiring these things is obvious, isn’t it? It’s for forging the ‘sapphire’ that Bruce mentioned,” said Falling Sun. “In fact, it has a scientific name.”
A document was sent to me.
“Abyss Crystals,” said Hualu Ri.
Hua Molan opened the document and began reading the description of the Abyss Crystal.
"Abyss Crystals are a form of azure matter forged using special methods. When activated, they unfold into a small area of ruins, instantly dragging everything around them into it."
“This was found in Louis’s archives, and he seems to be investigating these things as well,” Hualu Ri said. “Of course, he probably wouldn’t guess that this thing is used to guide the firing of space-based weapons.”
“Bruce has done a great job,” Jiang Zhengge said.
“After all, the unfolding ruins themselves are a signal to guide the firing of W weapons,” Li Zhanyi said softly. “So, the Foundation’s ‘Abyss Crystal’ is still in the process of being forged?”
“We were still acquiring them yesterday, so of course they’re not finished casting yet,” Hua Luo Ri said. “However, I estimate it won’t be long.”
“If there are no surprises, the foundry should be in the Silver Zone,” Hua Molan frowned. “Have the experimental department track the frequency of Abyss crystallization and get a tracker out. Isabel, can you hear me?”
"I heard you, Director! I'm back in the lab!" Professor Isabel's energetic voice rang out; no one knew why she had so much energy.
"Okay, let's assign the tasks."
Hua Molan turned her head and looked at Lin Chen.
"Lin Chen, your task is to take Zhan Yi to rest. You've all worked hard these past few days," she said. "Haven't you been back to the Investigation Bureau's affiliated residential area in a long time, have you?"
“It has indeed been a long time.” Lin Chen nodded.
To be honest, his instincts didn't really want to rest. With one crisis after another, there was no way he could relax.
But his body was clearly unable to hold on any longer.
He can't afford to collapse at this time.
"Let's go back."
A soft little hand grasped Lin Chen's hand, leading him out of the crowd and towards the stairwell.
When he came to his senses again, Lin Chen was already standing at the entrance of the apartment building.
He had imagined countless times what his home would become, but to his surprise, the condition here wasn't too bad.
The fighting reached the neighborhood, leaving some holes in the exterior walls of the buildings, but otherwise everything was in good order.
At least it wasn't the kind of scene Lin Chen had imagined... returning home to find his house had been demolished.
"I thought Louis would hate us so much that he'd blow up our house," Lin Chen muttered.
“This place is part of his memories too,” Li Zhanyi said softly. “I always feel that there’s still a part of him inside that monster’s body.”
Lin Chen looked at Li Zhanyi and saw a moment of melancholy flicker in the girl's eyes.
"It's terrifying that desire actually turned him into a different person."
"Yes."
Lin Chen sighed softly and took Li Zhanyi's hand.
"Come on, go home."
"Ding!"
The electric lock opened, and a familiar, smoky aroma wafted out.
Lin Chen stepped into the familiar room and looked around: it was almost exactly the same as when they left, except that months of dust had accumulated on the windowsill, table, and television. The two handles they had left behind still lay in the center of the sofa, nestled together.
However, the flower on the windowsill has already withered.
"Go take a shower first, I'll clean up," Li Zhanyi said. "Hopefully there's still water and electricity..."
After saying that, she pressed the light switch—
"Snapped!"
The entire room was immediately illuminated by incandescent lights.
“There really are,” Lin Chen looked up at the light, “It seems that these apartment buildings have always been inhabited.”
Thinking of this, Lin Chen paused for a moment, then shook his head self-deprecatingly.
What is he talking about? Those rebels are investigators too.
They still live in the same neighborhood, go in and out of the same rooms, and live similar lives.
The only difference is that they became traitors.
