“A reasonable deduction,” Hua Molan nodded. “You learn very quickly.”
She checked Hualuori's condition: she looked alright, but rather weak and didn't seem to want to talk much.
After falling into the subspace, Hua Luo Ri's condition was even better than before.
"Thank you for your help." Lin Chen looked at the newsboy not far away and then looked around the room in front of him.
What came into view was a dilapidated classroom that looked like it had been abandoned for a long time, but it seemed that someone had specially tidied it up, as the desks and chairs were arranged fairly neatly.
The newsboy sat on a table, gently swinging his legs.
She nodded noncommittally at Lin Chen's thanks, then pointed to another door at the end of the room.
Lin Chen walked towards the door, simultaneously activating his depth gauge to calculate his coordinates.
When he reached the door, he was surprised to find that the coordinates actually overlapped with the safe house provided by Jiang Zhengge!
Is the safe house behind this door?
Lin Chen reached out and grabbed the doorknob, but a cold hand grabbed his wrist.
He turned his head and saw the newsboy standing beside him, holding up a finger.
It means...helping requires payment...
"Of course." Lin Chen nodded immediately.
It's a matter of course.
He closed his eyes, entered the mirage city, and took the newsboy with him.
Once his eyes had adjusted to the city's bright light, the newsboy had reached Triton's tombstone, bent down, and gently touched the inscription.
After a brief touch, the newsboy stood up, pulled out a bouquet of flowers from somewhere, and placed it in front of the grave.
She turned around, nodded to Lin Chen, and the surrounding scenery gradually faded away, and the two returned to the old classroom.
"I feel like I got the short end of the stick," Lin Chen joked. "You helped me escape once, and in return, you gained the history of an Alpha-level demigod. I feel like I lost out big time..."
As soon as Lin Chen finished speaking, he saw the newsboy frown... Well, her eyes were covered by an eye patch, so he couldn't actually see her eyebrows, but Lin Chen just felt that she frowned.
“My problem,” Lin Chen raised his hands, “is that the debt of saving my life is more precious than intelligence.”
The newsboy nodded.
"Could you save us a few more times after that?" Lin Chen asked. "This is the history of an Alpha-level demigod. Surely you can offer more help? We're unfamiliar with Waterpool City, and we might have to stay there for a while. Could you help us out?"
The newsboy frowned again... Probably? She stared at Lin Chen for a long time, then nodded slightly.
She agreed.
"Thank you." Lin Chen smiled and nodded to the newsboy, then opened the door—
"Crash..."
A damp smell wafted over, accompanied by a slight chill.
Lin Chen led everyone out of the dilapidated classroom and found themselves in front of an old wooden building.
The building is very solemn, with some English architectural features, and stands like a classic gentleman in the rain.
"This is a safe house?" Lin Chen muttered. "Old Jiang has pretty good taste..."
"Of course he has it."
Looking at the safe house in front of her, Hua Molan chuckled softly.
"This is what the West Wing District Branch of the Investigation Bureau originally looked like. Before the renovation, we went through a period of poverty."
“The city of puddles reflects every layer of history of the rain capital. It seems that your Section Chief Jiang chose the earlier layer.”
"From this perspective...it is indeed quite safe here."
"So that's how it is..." Li Zhanyi nodded thoughtfully.
"Let's go and find out."
Lin Chen projected a shotgun and walked towards the old investigation bureau's gate first.
Upon entering the hall, Lin Chen knew everything was settled: a dimensional stability anchor was planted in the center of the hall, and the coldness of the rain stopped extending inwards from the entrance.
However, what's incongruous is that although the building appears to have several floors from the outside, it only has one floor inside.
"Warspace is a strange place," Lin Chen muttered. "Zhanyi, how deep is it here?"
"D-3.87, but the stabilizing anchor has blocked all the erosion. As long as the stabilizing anchor can keep working, just insert a sanity stabilizer every morning when you get up, and if you feel uncomfortable, just insert another one before going to bed."
Lin Chen nodded:
"We should have some sanity stabilizers in reserve. If not, I can project some, but the projected ones may have side effects, since they are subspace products."
"There's a stabilizer here," Hua Molan's voice came from the medical room in the corner of the room.
Lin Chen and Li Zhanyi entered the medical room and saw that Hua Luori was already lying on the bed with an IV drip in her hand.
"Hey," Hua Luori waved to Lin Chen, "The armor was really useful, otherwise I might have died there... I won't hold you accountable for calling me 'Auntie' anymore."
“Don’t say things like that. You’re not that easy to kill,” Hua Molan frowned, her face stern. “Besides, what’s wrong with him calling you Auntie? You won’t suffer any loss.”
"...Little Green Onion, I know I wasn't there to watch you grow up, but you can't expose my past like this. Mommy is a girl too...and she cares about her age..."
"Say less and focus on recovering."
Hua Luo Ri pursed her lips like a well-behaved daughter, making a zipping motion on her lips.
Hua Molan picked up a box and showed Lin Chen its contents:
"There are two large boxes of sanity stabilizers here, enough for four people for half a year. Jiang Zhengge is quite thoughtful... Where is he?"
“They’ve fallen into an ideal world,” Lin Chen sighed. “Senior Lucy and Oswald have both fallen into it.”
“As expected,” Hua Molan narrowed her eyes, “Since Louis entered the director’s office, he has been very enthusiastic about that thing. The weaponized ideal state actually has a model. He used his secretary’s authority to apply for a live-fire test, and it seems that it is being used today.”
"Will Lao Jiang and the others be alright?" Li Zhanyi asked with some concern.
"Don't worry, I can't say for sure about other situations, but if they fall into the Ideal Country, they'll definitely be fine," Hua Molan said. "It's just that it will definitely take some time for them to reunite with us. After all, the gates of the Ideal Country are basically connected to the Investigation Bureau's hub, and if they leave rashly, they'll just get caught."
"We need to find a chance to go back and rescue them," Lin Chen said.
As he said this, a burning pain immediately shot through his temples—his body seemed to have reached its limit after working non-stop all night.
“You’ve been carrying too much of a burden. Get some rest,” Hua Molan sighed. “Thank you for coming to find me under these circumstances. Logically speaking, I would have been restricted or even killed after the betrayal. Escaping without me would have been the best option.”
"Speaking of which, is the knife in your chest alright?" Li Zhanyi asked cautiously.
She was terrified that if she reminded Director Hua Molan that "you are already dead," she would actually die on the spot.
"This? It's alright."
Hua Molan gripped the hilt of the knife, pulled hard, let out a soft hum, and then tossed the knife into a corner.
After she pulled out the knife, a grayish-white light immediately emanated from her chest, healing the wound.
"Are you really alright?" Lin Chen asked politely.
Hua Luo Ri couldn't help but burst out laughing.
"No, your Director Hua isn't even human. The tricks you use to deal with people won't work on her."
"Not human?" Li Zhanyi's jaw dropped in shock.
"At least half of them are not human."
Hua Luo Ri blinked and revealed a bright smile:
“Her father is Black Impermanence—the abnormal entity that I swallowed.”
"Your Director Hua is the daughter of the Black Impermanence and a human!"
......
Hua Luo Ri spent some time explaining Hua Mo Lan's background to Lin Chen.
After she devoured the Black Impermanence, she lived between dreams and reality for a long time, gradually becoming no different from that abnormal entity.
The forest where she lived became the subject of many terrifying legends, such as a girl in the deep mountains and a deadly ghost... Eastern superstitions quickly deified her.
Until the Secret Party found the Falling Sun.
"Black Impermanence did not die. He became my shadow in the subspace, constantly trying to break through the containment of my body and return to the real world."
"As I lived longer, he became stronger and stronger, and eventually almost possessed me and returned to the real world."
"My comrades from the Secret Party were a great help. The old captain and Meng Po took me to a ruin called the 'Bridge of Helplessness.' There, they separated a part of my shadow and let that part of the shadow cross the Bridge of Helplessness, erasing my past memories."
"Black Impermanence's power was taken away, and he was once again at a disadvantage, while the shadow that crossed the Bridge of Helplessness was reset into a sub-entity."
"Because that entity possessed characteristics of both me and Black Impermanence, Mayor Buendía awarded her to me to be my daughter."
Hearing this, Hua Molan frowned in displeasure:
"You don't seem too happy about it."
"Of course I wasn't happy about it at the time! That entity killed everyone in my village and became a curse on me!"
As the sun sets, its cheeks puff out:
"And then I ended up having to adopt you! I was so angry, I kicked Buendía right then and there."
"But when Meng Po handed you over to me, everything was different. You little green onion baby, so tiny and really cute, almost as cute as me. I fell in love with you instantly and couldn't put you down every day."
"Mom..." Hua Molan sighed.
“Okay, I admit it. I went to Super America when you were just over ten years old, and I didn’t spend much time with you after I came back,” Hua Luo Ri laughed. “But Little Green Onion has grown up, and Mom is actually quite at ease dying.”
"Do you really have to die...?"
"I don't care. It's a relief for me, saving your father from thinking about how to take me to the underworld every day," Hua Luori blinked. "However, if you don't allow me to die, then I won't die for now."
"You are not allowed to die."
"Yes, sir."
The way this mother and daughter interacted really impressed Lin Chen.
"So, the symbiote will eventually be devoured by the abnormal entity on its body..." Lin Chen thought of Liti, and his heart clenched.
"Not necessarily. Different entities have different fates," Hua Luori shook his head. "Anyway, they usually die a horrible death, that's a similarity..."
"Is there any way to solve this problem once and for all?" Lin Chen asked.
"As far as I'm concerned, there probably isn't any left," Hua Luori shook her head. "Killing Hei Wuchang would mean my death too. I can only keep injecting the blocking agent to limit him and then deal with his moves when he erupts again."
"Who knows, we might even be able to give Hua Molan a little sister... or a little brother? Little Green Onion, what name do you think would be good?"
"This isn't the time to talk about this. You should focus on surviving first." Hua Molan tapped Hua Luori on the head.
"Okay, let me discuss it with your father."
"..."
After leaving the ward, Hua Molan pulled Lin Chen and Li Zhanyi to the kitchen and began skillfully making coffee.
Jiang Zhengge really did stock up on a lot of things here, even a huge amount of coffee as an add-on... Well, maybe coffee is actually a necessity for office workers?
"Take a good rest for a while, go to sleep later," Hua Molan handed the coffee to Lin Chen. "The problems in Yudu have become complicated, and the situation cannot be resolved in a day or two."
Lin Chen took the coffee Hua Molan handed him and stared at the cup for a while:
Do you still drink coffee before bed?
"So you're going to bed later, we have a guest who wants to see you."
Hua Molan pointed to the window:
"She's been waiting for a while, but she's been smart enough not to come in and bother us."
Lin Chen turned to look at the rain scene outside the window, and a black extended Lincoln came into view.
Meng Po stood solemnly beside the carriage, holding a red umbrella.
The Secret Service has arrived.
Lin Chen frowned slightly.
To be honest, even if the Secret Service hadn't come looking for him, he would have gone to them anyway.
First, regardless of whether the "historical collapse plan" is true or false, Lin Chen must personally inquire with Mayor Buendía.
