“Okay.” He nodded. “But we can’t let our guard down.”
"Ok!"
Chapter 180 The Resurrected Withered Leaf (Part 2)
Alice's eyes lit up instantly when she heard Lynn agree.
"Thank you, Mr. Lynn!" She nodded excitedly, and finally a bright smile appeared on her lips, the one she hadn't seen in days.
Lynn didn't say anything more. He turned around and walked straight to the back of a huge rock a dozen meters away from the lake.
“I’m right here. If there’s any noise, shout for me immediately.”
After saying that, he turned his back to the lake and stood still like a statue.
Behind me, I heard the rustling sound of clothes being undressed.
Lynn's hearing became extremely sharp after his level was increased. Even from a distance of more than ten meters, he could clearly hear the sound of clothes rubbing together and the slight sound of his underwear slipping off the grass.
Lynn took a deep breath and forced himself to focus on being alert to his surroundings.
"Splash—"
The sound of water filled the air, followed by a deeply satisfied sigh from Alice.
"It's so warm..." The girl's soft voice drifted through the mist, carrying a hint of unguarded languor.
Lynn stood behind the rock, listening to the crisp sound of the water rippling, and his Adam's apple bobbed involuntarily.
He was a normal man, and a man full of vigor.
In this desolate, snow-covered paradise, less than twenty meters behind you, a beautiful young woman is bathing in a hot spring… This stark contrast and enchanting atmosphere is truly the ultimate test of humanity.
Lynn resisted fiercely in her heart, trying to banish those uncontrollable images from her mind.
However, the worst thing about humanity is that the more you suppress something, the more it grows wildly like weeds.
"Just to take a look... to check if there's any danger approaching, definitely not to look at anything else."
Lynn came up with an extremely lame excuse for himself.
Then, he tilted his head slightly.
Without turning around completely, he merely glanced furtively at the lake from the corner of his eye, past the edge of the rocks, as if he were acting guilty.
Just one glance.
The lake was shrouded in mist, resembling a fairyland.
In the misty white fog, the girl's figure appeared and disappeared.
All he could see was a dazzling expanse of white.
It was a flawless, fair skin, as white and tender as the finest mutton fat jade.
Water droplets slid down her graceful shoulder and neck lines, past her delicate collarbone, and finally disappeared into the hazy mist.
The rest of the key parts were perfectly concealed by the dense mist and clear lake water.
It's not that you can see it completely, but it's precisely this hazy, half-hidden feeling that brings the most alluring visual impact.
At that moment, only four words popped into Lynn's mind: "A goddess reborn."
The next moment, he instantly looked away, a sense of guilt rising from the bottom of his heart.
How old is Alice? How could I have such romantic thoughts about a naive young girl?
Electricity, it must be strong.
Lynn rubbed her cheeks vigorously, trying to calm herself down.
He completely shut down those messy thoughts.
About ten minutes later, the sound of water splashing started again.
"Mr. Lynn, I'm done washing."
Alice's voice came from behind, carrying a hint of cheerfulness.
Lynn turned around and saw Alice, already dressed, emerging from behind the rock.
Her cheeks were flushed from the steam of the hot spring, like a ripe apple, radiating amazing youthful vitality.
His once somewhat dull blond hair was now wet and clung to his cheeks and neck, dripping water droplets.
“The water is so warm.” Alice walked up to Lynn, her eyes sparkling, her voice filled with barely concealed excitement. “Mr. Lynn, would you like to take a shower too? It’s so comfortable…”
"Ah!"
Before she could finish speaking, she let out a tremendous sneeze.
Immediately afterwards, her thin body trembled violently, and she instinctively hugged her shoulders with both hands.
Although the lake water is warm, the air in this valley still carries the chill of deep winter.
Having just come out of the hot water, with all my pores open, it would be a miracle if I didn't catch a cold when this icy wind, mixed with snow, blew on me.
Lynn rolled her eyes dramatically; the fleeting feelings of romance and guilt she had just felt were instantly replaced by helplessness.
"Are you tired of living if you take a bath in this freezing weather?"
Lynn gave a curt rebuke, but her hands moved without hesitation.
He quickly took out a large pile of dry firewood from his spatial ring, piled it on the ground, and flicked his finger, sending a small fireball accurately landing on the pile.
A bright campfire instantly ignited, dispelling the surrounding chill.
“Come warm up by the fire.” Lynn pointed to a spot near the fire. “You ran out without even drying your hair. If you want to die, don’t die on my escort route.”
Alice rubbed her red nose, knowing she was in the wrong, stuck out her tongue, and obediently sat down by the fire.
She took out a dry towel and awkwardly wiped her wet hair while warming herself by the fire.
Seeing her looking somewhat shy in the firelight, Lynn sighed.
He took the windproof tent out of his spatial ring and quickly set it up on a flat area not far from the campfire.
"Alright, dry yourself off and go inside to rest." Lynn lifted the tent flap.
Alice paused, stopping what she was doing. "Then... what about you?"
“I’ll keep watch,” Lynn said without turning his head, casually tossing several thick animal skin blankets into the tent.
“But you’ve been on guard duty for several nights in a row…” Alice felt a little guilty and said, biting her lip, “I’ll take the night watch tonight, you go in and rest.”
"You?" Lynn turned his head, looked her up and down, and said mercilessly, "If you encounter a monster, are you planning to kill it with your sneeze, or are you planning to win it over with your sympathy?"
Alice was speechless, her face turning bright red.
"Go inside and get some sleep." Lynn's tone left no room for argument. "I'm much stronger than you. I can rest even outside. Your task now is to make sure you don't get sick and don't cause me any trouble."
Alice knew Lynn was telling the truth; she really couldn't be of much help.
She could only lower her head silently and crawl into the tent.
"Thank you, Mr. Lynn."
The moment the curtain was drawn, a girl's grateful voice came from inside the tent.
Lynn did not answer.
He walked to the fire, sat down, added a few more pieces of firewood, closed his eyes, and entered a meditative state.
However, tonight's meditation seems to be more difficult than ever before.
That glimpse of fair skin, faintly visible through the mist, would often flash through his mind, lingering there.
……
The night grew deeper and deeper.
The wind in the valley seemed to have stopped, and apart from the occasional crackling of the campfire, there was no other sound.
After the assassination attempt at the Butterfly Tavern and the attack on the refugee camp, Lynn's vigilance has been raised to the highest level.
Especially in this icy and snowy secret realm where everything seemed abnormal, he dared not slack off in the slightest.
Suddenly, Lynn's eyelashes trembled slightly.
He sensed an extremely strange fluctuation.
This fluctuation wasn't magic; it lacked the violent or icy elemental aura, nor was it murderous; it didn't have that piercing, stabbing sensation.
This is an extremely vast...life force.
It was like the first drop of sweet rain falling on parched land.
Lynn's gaze instantly locked onto a spot a dozen meters ahead.
There, out of nowhere, a deer appeared.
But those were definitely not the ordinary white deer they had seen by the lake during the day.
This deer was much larger, about the height of two people.
It radiated a soft, holy light, like moonlight.
Its most striking feature is its antlers.
It wasn't made of bone, but rather it looked like it was formed from condensed light, giving it a translucent, crystalline texture.
Countless tiny halos of light swirled around the forked antlers. These halos seemed to possess a life of their own, constantly shifting, appearing, and disappearing.
Its four hooves were clearly on the grass, yet they didn't bend a single blade of grass, as if it were stepping on thin air.
It was walking step by step toward the tent, or rather, toward Alice inside the tent.
Lynn's eyes instantly turned cold.
No matter how sacred or beautiful this thing may appear, or how pure the life force it exudes may be.
In Lynn's dictionary, the unknown equals danger.
In this perilous alien world, the more beautiful something is, the more deadly it often is.
Lynn slowly raised his left hand, and a cyan wind blade had quietly taken shape at his fingertips.
Just as he was about to make his move, a slight noise came from the tent behind him.
"Mr. Lynn..."
The zipper was unzipped, and Alice, wrapped in a thick animal skin blanket, rubbed her sleepy eyes and crawled out of the tent.
"do not move!"
Without turning his head, Lynn lowered his voice and coldly ordered, "Back in the tent!"
However, to Lynn's surprise, Alice showed no fear or wariness upon seeing the mysterious creature; instead, she displayed an expression of extreme fascination and affection.
"Don't hurt it..."
Alice's voice was dreamlike and ethereal. She shook her head, threw off the animal skin blanket covering her, and walked barefoot out from behind Lynn, ignoring the cold night wind.
“It means no harm, Mr. Lynn, I can feel it… it’s calling me.”
"Go back!" Lynn's voice was filled with anger as he grabbed Alice's wrist and tried to pull her back forcefully.
However, the moment he touched Alice, he suddenly felt an extremely powerful repulsive force.
Lynn's hand was actually flung away!
He stared in shock at Alice, this ordinary girl with no magic power, who was radiating a faint glow, just like the light emanating from the spirit deer.
The glowing spirit deer stopped less than three meters away from Alice.
It didn't look at Lynn; its eyes, which seemed to hold the stars, quietly watched the girl approaching.
It lowered its head slightly, bringing its pair of antlers, which shimmered with a dazzling halo, down to Alice.
Lynn's heart pounded at its peak. His mental energy was completely locked onto the temple guardian deep within his soul. If anything went wrong, he would instantly deplete his sanity to summon the guardian and forcefully intervene.
"It's okay...it's okay..."
Alice seemed to be comforting Lynn, but also seemed to be comforting herself.
She stretched out her fair and slender hand and reached towards the glowing forehead of the spirit deer.
