Murphy vehemently refuted the rumors.
“Okay, okay!” Kanegon shrugged.
He'd always felt there was something off about Murphy. He was always addressing Murphy as "Your Majesty," yet he refused to join the Dark Legion no matter what. And the Alien Empera, ironically, loved that kind of thing, repeatedly expressing his desire for Murphy to come and serve him.
Kanegon even suspected that this factor might have been a factor in the evil Bogaru's rebellion after the war with the Land of Light. After all, during the post-war debriefing, Alien Emperor had said more than once at high-level meetings that if Murphy were willing to become his Uranus King, he would definitely not lose to the Land of Light or to Father of Ultra.
"In short, I heard from others that you have a lot of good stuff. That's why I came all this way."
Murphy sighed inwardly. The Yapools hadn't come, but instead, Emperor's lackeys had. Things seemed to have gotten even more complicated.
However, he did not intend to drive Kanegon away.
Since I'm selling anyway, as long as the price is right, it doesn't matter who I sell to.
As for whether this will lead to the growth of the Dark Legion and the defeat of the Land of Light? Don't be ridiculous, Murphy. Even disregarding his memories before transmigrating, based solely on Murphy's experiences after transmigrating, he doesn't think the Aliens of Empera have any chance of winning.
If judged by the standards of a powerful and ruthless ruler, the Alien Empera is indeed an undeniable overlord.
Aside from the criticism that he always wanted to plunge the entire universe into darkness, he did a good job in other aspects.
They are powerful, have great courage, and are quite protective of order.
While he was undoubtedly a hegemon to the conquered civilizations, for Murphy and his race who had followed him from the beginning, the Alien Empera was at least a wise ruler in the first half of his life.
But the Land of Light is different.
They are a true utopia, and every citizen is a true saint.
In their eyes, every life is precious and deserves respect. Even a brutal like Belial would give his life to protect the weak.
Murphy couldn't figure out how to defeat such an existence.
Their love for humanity will drive them to constantly push their limits. And the gratitude of humanity will, in turn, benefit them.
Light and darkness may be equal in strength. But for the Dark Legion to fight against all the light with its own power is nothing but a pipe dream.
Even without memories of his past life, Murphy could assert that the Aliens of Empera would never achieve final victory.
However, none of this really concerns him, a retired bar owner who just wants to have some fun.
"These are some materials I recently acquired. Take a look."
Murphy left Jamila in the lobby to take care of the guests, while he led Kanegon to the warehouse and showed him the monsters that were not suitable as ingredients.
……
"Gentleman Demon King, the shop manager has such a prestigious title!"
After Murphy left, Homura Akemi, Jamila, and the others immediately began to discuss excitedly.
"Did that emperor actually reserve the position of the First King for the shopkeeper all this time?" Gintoki was a little curious about just how strong Murphy really was.
He had only watched "Ultraman," so although he knew the Mefilas aliens were very powerful, he never had a clear understanding of it. But now it seems he might have underestimated them.
"Indeed, choosing to become the store manager's subordinate was the best decision I ever made!"
While secretly delighted, Homura Akemi decided that she and Kyoko would speed up the process of eliminating the witch and capturing Kyubey when they got back.
The store manager is too powerful; I have to cling to him tightly. No, I should say I have to weld myself to the store manager's coattails!
Chapter Forty-Four: Salvation from the Dark Legion
"Why are they all small monsters?"
Canegon took off his luxurious cloak and began to fidget with it, ignoring the dirt on it.
"They're interesting in terms of appearance and abilities. It's a pity they're too small, and they're all dead. Otherwise, they could be worth some money."
Friendships are friendships, business is business. Canegon immediately tried to lower the price.
"Have you forgotten that I used to be a war scientist?" Murphy scoffed. "Even in death, these monsters are excellent material for biological modification."
Kanegon nodded: "You're right. But the Legion follows a mechanized strategy. This is only of reference value to the Legion."
Murphy chuckled coldly. Indeed, the Legion had the peerless Iron God Impreza, so they weren't particularly interested in bio-weapons. But he could buy these things at low prices and then resell them to the Yapools at high prices.
“I have to earn something, right? The Legion’s military expenses have been rising lately. I’m having a hard time too!” Canegon complained to Murphy.
"Why not just disband the legion? Anyway, as long as we don't leave the Dark Space, the Kingdom of Light won't attack us."
Kanegon was startled: "You wouldn't dare say such a thing! His Majesty won't blame you if he finds out, but I'll be in big trouble!"
Murphy pursed his lips, but couldn't help saying, "If Your Majesty really wants revenge, why not put on your armor and fight Father of Ultra one-on-one? Doing things this way is completely counterproductive!"
Kanegon gave a wry smile: "I'm just a merchant, how could His Majesty possibly listen to me? Even if your brother were to offer advice, His Majesty would only listen to a fraction of it at most!"
Murphy was too lazy to say more.
He's retired anyway. Let the Dark Legion be destroyed! At worst, he can find that short guy, Ultraman, and ask him to vouch for him. Putting everything else aside, he couldn't bear to see so many tragedies in so many universes go unaddressed, could he?
Finally, after a heated debate, the two sides reached a price that satisfied both parties.
"Is that all?" Canegon asked.
"I know you run a bar, and you brought a lot of good stuff this time. If you only make this much money, you won't be able to buy much!"
Murphy hesitated for a moment.
The shop also had other things, such as the witches Homura Akemi had sent. A significant portion of these witches were transformed from familiars and didn't actually have human forms. Murphy felt no qualms about selling them.
The problem is, the Alien Empera is also a top scientist. If he saw the witches, he might guess that they come from another dimension.
At that time, the lie that Homura Akemi used to scare Kyubey might come true.
Given the nature of the Alien Empera, it's impossible for them to let go of such a completely new universe.
In the end, Murphy still didn't show the witch to Canegon. He wasn't a good person, but he couldn't bring himself to plunge an entire universe into darkness just for a little money.
Are you interested in these things?
Murphy pulled out several different currencies.
Paper money from Konoha Village, copper coins from Japan's Sengoku period, paper money and coins from the Amanto Shogunate...
"What remote planet did you go to scavenge for junk on?" Canegon asked with a strange look.
He rummaged around for a bit, then took one of each denomination and popped it into his mouth. The counter on his chest started spinning, adding a few more numbers.
"Well, the value is so-so, but it does have a unique flavor."
Kanegon did the math: "I can only exchange this for universal currency according to the ratio shown on the counter. You know, this kind of local currency has little value in the universe. Only our Kanegon race can afford to eat it as a snack."
Murphy had no objection.
"And what about these?" He waved his hand, conjuring up a bunch of specialties brought from this world by the various guests.
Although they are called local specialties, many of them are just ordinary local plants or cheap handicrafts.
"You really didn't secretly conquer a backward planet?" Kanegon asked again, still doubting.
“I have absolutely no interest in that kind of thing!” Murphy denied. “I got it from a customer who came to the store.”
After some deliberation, Kanegon offered a reasonably priced price.
"I'm not sure which of these products will sell well. I'll wait and see the market reaction before deciding whether to make a large-scale acquisition!"
For the Kanegon people, money is life, so they are very cautious when it comes to making money.
Murphy had no objection to this.
With the shipment completed, it's time to receive the goods.
Canegon came prepared.
"I brought all the basics, including drinks and ingredients."
He opened the compressed capsule, and boxes containing different ingredients were placed in front of Murphy, categorized by type.
There's not much to say about these ordinary goods. Canegon simply gave him the market price, and Murphy didn't refuse.
And what follows is the real highlight.
"Gabaton, Twin-Tailed Monster, Kemjira, and Mushroom Monster Massura!"
Kanegon said smugly, "These are top-quality goods that I finally managed to get my hands on."
Murphy was pleasantly surprised. These were all top-tier ingredients from the universe, each one not only incredibly valuable but also practically unavailable.
"I remember Kemjira was declared extinct by the Covenant, wasn't it? Where did you get it from?"
Kemjira is such a bizarre creature that even Murphy had never seen one before. This monster resembles an insect in appearance and behavior, hiding underground as an egg. Once the time is right, it hatches rapidly and grows into an adult tens of meters tall at an extremely fast pace.
In terms of sheer power, an adult Kemjira could easily destroy a weak civilization. Normally, a monster with such high reproductive rates and formidable strength even in adulthood shouldn't be extinct. But its natural enemy is the volcanic bird Barton.
Barton is a carnivorous bird-like monster. It is incredibly powerful, even aliens are wary of it. But it has a particular fondness for eating kemonag.
Due to its rampant predation, the Kemjira in the universe quickly became functionally extinct. Only a few remain in the zoos of a few aliens.
Kanegon smiled and said, "After His Majesty was defeated by the Kingdom of Light, he hunted down all the powerful monsters in the Legion's territory in order to expand his fighting strength. Among them was Barton. After Barton was gone, the remaining Kemjira in the Dark Space were able to breathe and have multiplied into a considerable population in recent years."
Murphy grinned. No wonder!
The Covenant and the Kingdom of Light generally don't interfere with the normal biological cycles of nature. Under these circumstances, Bartons in the Light faction's territory can generally thrive as long as they don't attack intelligent races. However, this naturally puts Kemjira in a very unfortunate position.
Even the Land of Light probably never imagined that the Dark Legion's militaristic atrocities would inadvertently protect an endangered species!
Chapter Forty-Five: There are always treacherous officials plotting against me!
Murphy was drooling over all these high-end ingredients. Unfortunately, he was short of money and could only pick and choose a little of each.
Fortunately, there aren't many customers at the tavern right now, and apart from Inuyasha, most of them don't have much money. These high-end ingredients should be enough to last for a while.
"Pleasant to work with."
Murphy and Canegon shook hands.
"Would you like to stay for a meal? It's on me!"
Canegon was surprised that Murphy would ask him to stay, and said in astonishment, "Murphy, you really are different from before."
"Is there?"
"You used to seem kind, but apart from your family and the planet Mefilas, you didn't really care about anything. You wouldn't have said that before. You're much more humane now!"
"After all, I'm already retired!"
Murphy was fully aware of his own changes. Rather than saying he had become more humane, it was more accurate to say that he had rediscovered himself.
"Since you're willing to treat me, of course I have to stay and try your cooking!"
Canegon followed Murphy back to the lobby.
"I'll have a glass of electronic brandy and a serving of Gabarton white wine!" Canegon ordered two expensive items without any hesitation.
Although the Kanegon people survive by eating coins, they are not incapable of eating other things. However, their only purpose is to provide a taste.
"Would you like another one of our tavern's signature dishes? The ingredients are definitely no less than those used in Gabarton!"
"Really?" Canegon asked with a hint of skepticism. "Then give me one!"
"Okay, just a moment!" Murphy turned to go cook.
Soon, Jamila brought out the electronic brandy from Canegon.
"What's your name? This is the first time I've ever seen a monster like you!" Kanegon was filled with curiosity about everything in the tavern.
Not only him, but even Murphy's brother couldn't understand why Murphy would go bankrupt to open a bar in this place.
"My name is Jamila." Jamila was used to this kind of question.
"Where is that girl? Is she a Guts alien? But I've never seen a Guts alien who looks like that before." Kanegon then pointed to Homura Akemi, who was working.
"Hama is a monster girl. The shopkeeper bestowed upon her the power of the Guts aliens."
"Huh?" Kanegon doubted his ears.
At this point in time, the Land of Light's fusion technology is still immature. Possession and the ability to merge bodies are privileges reserved for a select few. Therefore, the idea of bestowing the power of one alien upon another sounds utterly terrifying.
"You mean she merged with the Guts aliens?"
If that's the case, although it's rare, it's not incomprehensible to Kanegon.
“No. The shopkeeper turned the soul of the Guts alien into equipment and gave it to Homura.” Jamila shook her head. Murphy never intended to hide anything from the monster girl, so he answered honestly as well.
"Hiss!" Kanegon gasped.
Murphy, you still say you don't like violence? You're not planning to secretly accumulate power and then make a name for yourself, are you?
