Akagi struggled to her feet, making two hand gestures. A large ball of crimson foxfire rushed towards her, the scorching flames ignoring the seawater and burning directly on the surface, as if setting the ocean ablaze.
Kaga, not to be outdone, unleashed a blue foxfire that covered the sky in a few breaths. The two from the Second Carrier Division, though their swords were broken, still pressed forward, ready to charge and continue the fight.
The company was deeply moved by the spirit of the people on the other side, and then decided to increase their efforts and kill them as soon as possible.
The Yorktown-class Enterprise launched a new attack, drawing her bow taut. A gleaming arrow tore through the red flames that ignited the sea, hurtling straight towards Kaga. Through the rift, the Azure Dragon Flying Dragon emerged from the flames, swooping down on the Enterprise, who was momentarily unable to assume a defensive stance.
Robb's Enterprise quickly blocked the two ships of the Second Carrier Division. The opposing side was very wary of the Enterprise's gleaming beam saber, but unfortunately, the Freedom had a large arsenal and could not deal with it for the time being.
Taking advantage of the two dodging the sword strikes, Enterprise immediately unleashed its most powerful weapon—the plasma beam cannons mounted on its back wings. Two red beams struck, and the Second Carrier Division's ship equipment instantly melted due to the intense heat, resulting in a violent explosion that rendered it beyond repair.
Chapter Thirty-Two: The Sirens
Seeing that the Second Carrier Division's hull was exploding after being hit by Enterprise, Akagi and Kaga quickly controlled the flames and rushed towards Enterprise.
The company decided against confronting this obviously unscientific thing head-on, so it chose to simply walk through the air and cross the flames over the sea.
Meanwhile, Enterprise and Bumblebee split up, each flanking the Sakura Empire members from either side. In an instant, Enterprise, along with others in the sky, surrounded the Sakura Empire group.
"Lord Akagi, let's retreat! We've already lost this battle." Soryu, who had just been rescued by Kaga, had her ship armor plating practically severed in the middle. But she still managed to stand shakily on the sea.
The Flying Dragon beside her seemed to be in slightly better condition. Although her ship's rigging was still on fire, and the thick smoke made her squint, the main body of the ship wasn't seriously damaged. It seemed that she had successfully dodged a fatal attack at the last moment.
Akagi looked around and thought to himself, "I'd like to retreat, but they're clearly not letting me!"
Without carrier-based aircraft, the Sakura Empire crew had no means to counter Enterprise's Hornet carrier-based aircraft and could only barely cope with the situation using Akagi and Kaga's Foxfire.
"Lord Akagi, listen to me. My carrier-based aircraft spotted the Eagle Union's mass-produced fleet not far behind. I saw Yorktown guarding a mass-produced ship, and I estimate that the commander of this battle is there! I can still launch one last attack."
Akagi glanced at Hiryu and decided not to investigate why she was able to launch another air attack when no one else had carrier-based aircraft.
“Tell me your plan.”
"Disrupt the White Eagle's command and create an opportunity for retreat."
Akagi said nothing, but stepped forward and hid the dragon behind his back. He then exchanged a glance with Kaga, and the two simultaneously formed hand gestures.
The flames on the sea surface came to life at Akagi and Kaga's gesture. They churned and rolled, the red and blue flames gradually merging into one. Then, a colossal beast composed of a mixture of red and blue flames coiled above the sea.
"What is this?!" Even the company, let alone Bumblebee, was dumbfounded. This is clearly something else.
The behemoth roared to the sky, its voice deafening. It opened its fiery maw and spewed flames at the carrier-based aircraft in the sky, then leaped forward, its claws pouncing towards the Enterprise, which was preparing to attack Akagi from the air.
"What is this thing?" Upon seeing this, the company immediately changed its target and aimed at the fiery behemoth.
Two crimson lasers pierced straight through the behemoth's body, creating huge splashes on the sea surface.
Although the behemoth was blasted with two holes by the company's plasma cannon, it didn't care at all and recovered completely in just a few seconds.
"The fact that they didn't bring this out in the first place means it's definitely not something easy to use; either it has serious side effects or its effectiveness is limited." Seeing that their attacks were ineffective against the behemoth before them, the company distanced itself and began to consider countermeasures.
Meanwhile, Enterprise and Bumblebee also discovered that their attacks were having little effect on the fiery behemoth before them.
She glanced at Akagi Kaga, who had been standing still for a long time, and an idea formed in her mind.
"Commander, I've encountered a problem here." After thinking for a moment, Rob's Enterprises decided to ask the audience for help.
After hearing the company's description, Rob didn't even hesitate and said, "Why don't you just attack Akagi directly? Anyway, that thing definitely can't keep up with your speed!"
“Okay, I understand.” Having received the instruction, the company immediately began to act. She started circling around Akagi and Kaga, searching for an opportunity to attack.
The behemoth on the sea kept a close eye on Enterprise and its carrier-based aircraft in the sky. It would pounce on anyone who tried to attack. Hornet and her crew had already lost many of their carrier-based aircraft to it. Enterprise's several attacks had also been thwarted by it, either missing their targets or being forced to abort.
"Cover me!" Enterprise said to Bumblebee and the others, then sped up, trying to break through the behemoth's defensive perimeter.
Just as the behemoth was about to pounce on the Enterprise, carrier-based aircraft launched attacks from several directions. Whichever side manages to break through, today's battle will come to an end.
Hornet launched the first attack, with carrier-based aircraft circling and attacking the Sakura Empire fleet in batches.
Under the control of Akagi and Kaga, the fiery behemoth pounced on the incoming carrier-based aircraft. Several Hornet carrier-based aircraft turned into fireworks in the sky, but a few still managed to break through the defenses.
Akagi frowned, controlled the behemoth to twist in the air, and actually changed direction in mid-air. He opened his mouth and bit down, and it looked like he was about to shoot down all of Hornet's carrier-based aircraft.
Seeing this opportunity, the company fired two plasma cannons directly at Akagi. The attack was ineffective against the behemoth, but similarly, the behemoth could not withstand the attack.
Akagi Kaga was forced to abandon control of the giant beast and narrowly dodged the attack that came from the sky.
Without Akagi's control, the behemoth stood motionless like a wooden chicken, and Enterprise's carrier-based aircraft took the opportunity to charge straight at the Sakura Empire fleet.
"Tch!" The Enterprise in the sky didn't give Akagi and Kaga a chance to stand still and regain control of the behemoth. The relentless attacks kept the Sakura Empire members busy running around.
As the carrier-based aircraft were about to reach overhead, Akagi glanced at Hiryu, who nodded slightly in understanding.
Suddenly, the fiery behemoth began to expand, and then with a deafening roar, it exploded violently, the scattered flames instantly engulfing all the carrier-based aircraft in the sky. Everyone's vision was completely filled with flames, so much so that the three people present didn't even see a group of carrier-based aircraft quietly taking off.
The flames finally subsided, leaving only a few embers still burning on the sea surface. Akagi and Kaga, clearly exhausted from their actions, were struggling to stand on the water, panting heavily. Although Hiryu's carrier-based aircraft had already taken off, it would take some time to reach their attack location, and whether they could hold out during that time would determine their fate.
Unfortunately, the Sakura Empire's forces had no means of resistance. Although Akagi, Kaga, and Hiryu fought with all their might, the outcome remained unchanged.
"It's over!" Enterprise controlled the carrier-based aircraft and dropped the final volley of bombs on Sakura Empire. A violent explosion followed, flames soared into the sky, and smoke filled the sea.
After everything settled down, all the members of Sakura Empire were badly injured, unconscious, and floating on the sea.
The three men exchanged glances, then raised their weapons, ready to deliver the final blow to the enemy.
"Hehehe, not yet! If these few leave here, I'll be in trouble."
Suddenly, a slightly cheerful female voice rang out, startling everyone. There had been nothing on the sea surface except for the few people present.
"Siren!" The group followed the sound and found a scantily clad girl riding a ship-like object that looked like a hammerhead shark, curiously observing the four fallen Sakura Empire members.
"Seriously, why do I have to be assigned this kind of task? Hey, you guys over there, let's have a match, otherwise it's super boring that I went through all this trouble to come all this way!"
Chapter Thirty-Three: The Purifier
The sudden appearance of the siren put everyone on high alert, and they all raised their weapons and aimed them at her.
"Siren, why are you here?" Enterprise drew her bow to its fullest extent, ready to attack at the slightest movement from her. She was also deeply surprised; the Sirens possessed such intelligent units, seemingly indistinguishable from human ships. It seemed the Sirens were far more complex than the records suggested.
"The tester said these guys still have important data to test and can't leave now, so he asked me to come and help. If you're not going to fight me, just pretend you didn't see anything, okay!" The guy in front of me was smiling adorably silly, especially those big golden eyes. He didn't look like an evil being at all. He seemed quite different from the demon who almost destroyed the world in the records.
The company representatives exchanged glances, trying to decide whether to fight or not.
"Should I ask the Commander?" Enterprise felt that this was not a decision she should make.
"Oh, right. I'll give you some more news. Just now," the Purifier pointed to the wyvern lying on the sea surface, "it launched a group of carrier-based aircraft while you weren't looking! It seems to be heading towards your commander. If you hurry, you can still catch up." As the Purifier spoke, it kicked the wyvern to see if it was really unconscious.
The company was startled by this, but it did not lower its gun. The Sirens' words were not credible, especially with Sister Yorktown by the commander's side.
"Commander, I've encountered a problem. A Siren with its own consciousness has appeared. Should we engage or not?"
"Sirens? Weren't you fighting against Sakura Empire? How did the Sirens escape?" Robo, who was still clearing out the remaining Sakura Empire escort fleet in the rear, was a little confused when he heard the communication from Enterprise. Had his own ships been clearing dungeons too quickly with their sisters and thus spawned the hidden boss?
"The four ships of the Sakura Empire have lost their combat capability. This Siren has come to take them away."
"Then let's not fight. We're here to fight the Sakura Empire. Fighting the Sirens will cost more money!" Rob said, explaining that as an employee, he would only do one job for the salary he was paid, so that his own company could be cleaned up and brought back.
Since the rear commander said to stop fighting, the Enterprises put away their weapons. After all, this Siren in front of them was clearly a high-level model, and it would be unwise to fight another high-level Siren after already having fought one. What if these Sakura Empire soldiers were just bluffing? They might suffer a great loss.
"Huh? Not fighting anymore? If not, I'm leaving!" The Purifier, seeing that the others had put down their weapons and seemed to be giving up, immediately lost interest, his face falling. Sure enough, these kinds of missions were always boring; that Tester always gave him these kinds of tasks.
Finding that the siren in front of him didn't seem very bright, the company decided to try to get some information out of her.
"Siren, in my memory, there is no type of siren like you that I can communicate with. What type of siren are you?"
"I'm a Purifier! Not one of those low-level models you've seen before." The siren in front of them answered the company's question with a grin, without even considering whether it was a matter of leaking secrets.
"Are you allies with Sakura Empire Ironblood?"
"How could that be? They're just experimental subjects, albeit slightly special ones. By the way, the most special experimental subject in the world is you! Eh? Wait, why are there two identical ones?" The Purifier said, hands on her hips, nodding at Enterprise. Suddenly, she sensed something was wrong. The two Enterprises standing there, though their ship outfits were different, were undoubtedly the same person. This confused the Purifier. Suddenly, she seemed to remember something. "No, no, why did I tell you all this? Forget everything you just said!" As she spoke, the unidentified object beneath the Purifier, which resembled both ship outfits and a living creature, pointed its cannons at the group, seemingly threatening them.
"I've forgotten," the company replied calmly to the Purifier.
"That's more like it. Since you're not going to fight, I'm leaving. Remember, we're enemies. Strive to become stronger, and next time, I'll show you what I'm capable of!"
After speaking, the Purifier led the Sakura Empire members away. Enterprise had no idea how she left, just as she had no idea how she had come to her side.
With the Sirens' departure, the battle came to an end, and without a doubt, the Sakura Empire suffered a crushing defeat. Enterprise said goodbye to the other two and left first, still somewhat concerned about Hiryu's carrier-based aircraft; if they sped up, they could still catch up.
"It feels like, even though we had a big fight, I didn't really do anything?" Bumblebee adjusted his cowboy hat, briefly recalling the battle, and suddenly realized that he didn't seem to have much of a presence.
After listening to Bumblebee's words, the company simply looked back at the direction where its other self had left, remaining silent for a long time.
On Roborov's side, Yorktown had already detected the approaching carrier-based aircraft. Although the enemy's carrier-based aircraft did not engage in direct combat with the ships but instead made a long-distance raid to their side, they still scrambled fighter jets to intercept them.
"Seriously, are they heading this way? I wonder how things are going on the Enterprise side." It was just a group of enemy planes. Although Yorktown was injured and its control of carrier-based aircraft was not as good as usual, its hangar was full, so it didn't take the enemy seriously. After all, the mass-produced ships escorting them had enough anti-aircraft firepower.
However, just as she was getting her carrier-based aircraft into a standoff with the enemy, another figure appeared in the sky, rapidly approaching. Yorktown gave a helpless smile. "Really, doesn't it give its sister even a chance to shine?"
That figure was naturally the company representative who had rushed back from the front lines.
"Enterprise? Why are you back? How's the battle going?" Yorktown looked Enterprise over to make sure she wasn't injured.
"The battle over there is over, we've won. What about you, sister?"
“It’s all over here. The Sakura Empire’s escort fleet was routed by you guys. We just did some cleanup work. It won’t take long.” Yorktown said as he tidied Enterprise’s slightly messy hair.
"I have something to discuss with the commander, so I'll head over now." Enterprise, remembering the Sirens she had just encountered, decided to report to Rob.
"Go ahead." Yorktown smiled as she watched her younger sister fly onto the mass-produced ship where her commander was. "Oh dear, my sister still cares more about her commander! I'm afraid I can't hold onto this sister."
On the mass-produced ship where Rob was stationed, the company easily found Rob, who was still in command.
"Commander, I'm back!"
"Welcome back!" Rob, who had just received a call informing him of his company's return, looked his company up and down. After confirming that it wasn't damaged, he went over and gave her a hug. The people around them immediately and tactfully moved aside, leaving the two of them alone.
"Commander, I... I have something else to say." Enterprise broke free from Rob's embrace, indicating that she had something to say. She then recounted her encounter with an unidentified type of Siren at the end of the battle.
"Sirens with self-awareness who can communicate with people? Enterprise, are you sure you're not mistaken? That's a Siren and not some unknown type of ship?" Rob believed Enterprise's story unconditionally, but he still found it hard to understand, since there was never a Siren in the records that could communicate.
"Yes, it's the Sirens, I can feel it."
"Is that so? It seems our previous assumptions about a deal or even an alliance between Sakura Empire and the Sirens were correct. We'll discuss this further when we get back. Let's not worry about that today. You should rest well; as a combat hero, you'll be busy for the next few days." Rob put aside his own thoughts and told Enterprise to rest. He then sent a telegram to the AF headquarters: Sakura Empire has been defeated; we have won.
AF Command Room.
News of the victory reached the rear, and everyone in the command center cheered and jumped for joy, the atmosphere of jubilation reaching unprecedented heights. New Jersey, the commander-in-chief, and his assistant Ticonderoga embraced each other in celebration.
"Take stock of the losses, notify logistics, prepare a banquet—we must give our triumphant heroes a proper welcome!" New Jersey shouted, a confident smile once again spreading across her face. After all, Miss Black Dragon was invincible; victory was only a matter of course, wasn't it?
Chapter Thirty-Four: Victory Celebration Banquet
Although AF had been attacked by Sakura Empire forces during the day, and the air was thick with the acrid smell of gunpowder, the joy of victory outweighed the sorrow brought by the battle's wounds. The ship girls had delivered a resounding victory. Naturally, a celebratory banquet was in order.
The island's cafeteria was temporarily converted into a banquet hall. Although many facilities were incomplete, the atmosphere was perfect, so it didn't matter. At least, that's what Miss New Jersey said.
Well, only she would do something like using a searchlight as a party light; most people wouldn't have that kind of thought process.
At the banquet, the chefs served up meticulously prepared dishes, their enticing aromas whetting everyone's appetite. The soldiers, especially those who had fought on the front lines during the day, began to feast at the tables even before the banquet officially started.
As New Jersey enthusiastically announced the start of the banquet, the atmosphere reached its climax. Military banquets are less formal; everyone eats and drinks to their heart's content, sings joyfully, sends blessings to the victorious heroes, and mourns the fallen comrades—that's enough.
Rob was squatting in a corner, holding a piece of beef leg, watching the crowd sing and dance in the center of the arena while picking out his favorite snacks to fill his stomach. He preferred a quiet atmosphere to the noisy scene. Naturally, he wouldn't do anything to spoil the fun, so he simply squatted to the side, minimizing his presence, and checking the results of the battle. Due to his company's bad habit of not finishing off opponents, the profits from the big victory weren't as high as he'd expected. But before he could take a closer look, a pair of beautiful legs in high heels and black stockings captured most of his attention. Looking up, he saw New Jersey.
"Robb, why are you squatting here? I've been looking for you for ages!" New Jersey was still dressed in her usual clothes. She pulled Rob up. "Where's your company?" New Jersey looked around and couldn't find the biggest contributor of the day.
“They took them away from Yorktown and the others. Look, their three eagles are still here with me.” Rob pointed to a corner where no one was paying attention, where three bald eagles were diligently pecking at their meal. When they noticed New Jersey’s gaze on them, they raised their heads to look, then tilted their heads and decided to continue eating.
Seeing the three bald eagles turning into plump chickens, New Jersey became interested and squatted down in front of them, reaching out to touch them. The eagles, engrossed in their meal, didn't resist and let New Jersey touch them to his heart's content.
"Robo, Robo, I think these eagles seem even fatter than when I last saw them." As she spoke, she picked them up and weighed them in her hands. Feeling the weight in her hands, New Jersey was certain that these three had gotten fatter, and quite a bit fatter. So she laughed and joked with Robo.
Upon hearing the word "fat," the three bald eagles suddenly raised their heads in unison, staring intently at New Jersey with a sharp glint in their eyes. They seemed to be pondering how to teach this mute ship a lesson.
“First of all, these three understand that you said they’ve gotten fat. Secondly, these three hold grudges.” Rob said from the side, indicating that some things shouldn’t be said, even to three fat chickens. Back then, Rob was chased by these three for quite a while, and in the end, he had to treat them to a meal to settle the matter.
"Huh?" New Jersey was clearly taken aback, then realized that the three in front of it were about to bite it, so it quickly looked to Rob for help. Rob had no choice but to give the three of them another meal. Seeing that there was meat on their plates, the three temporarily stopped thinking about the ship that had just offended them.
New Jersey decided not to provoke the three gluttonous and vengeful fat chickens for the time being. Seeing everyone happily dancing in the dance floor, she felt confident again. Even though she had never learned to dance, there was nothing in the world that could stump Miss New Jersey!
"Come on, Rob, let's go dance! You're the hero today, it's no fun just sitting here!" New Jersey glanced at Rob, who was still gnawing on a beef leg, and decided that Rob was the lucky audience member! Ignoring Rob's greasy hands, she pulled him to the center of the dance floor. Everyone immediately turned to look at them. After all, everyone on AF knew New Jersey; her stunning beauty and lively personality had earned her a lot of popularity. Dancing with New Jersey was a dream for many young men, and this unfamiliar Asian face instantly became the object of envy for many.
But soon, jealousy turned into sympathy. Many young people who were still fantasizing about dancing with New Jersey looked at their own physiques and felt that they probably couldn't withstand that level of "attack," and said that their lives were more important.
After all, while others get paid to dance, this girl from New Jersey is dancing to her death! Taking advantage of her ship-like physique, she dances in high heels without much trouble, but her partner, Rob, is in real trouble. Stepping on her toes is just the appetizer; Rob even wonders if he's somehow offended this thing, otherwise, why would she step on his thigh?
After the dance ended (yes, martial arts), Rob fled the dance floor as if his life depended on it; staying any longer would have meant certain death. New Jersey seemed to still be enjoying himself, but after seeing Rob say, "I really can't take it anymore," he had no choice but to leave dejectedly.
"Seriously, Rob, why won't you dance with me one more time!"
“Miss Black Dragon, I really can’t take it anymore! Why don’t you find someone else?” As he spoke, Rob pointed to the shoe print on his trouser leg, “How did you manage to step in this spot?”
The confident Miss New Jersey, seeing her masterpiece, still felt somewhat guilty, her eyes darting around as she said, "I just wanted to try a different dance! It's so boring when everyone dances the same thing."
Just then, Yorktown, who had been taking his sisters for a stroll, found Robb and saw that his eagle was still busy devouring the food in the bowl, so he scooped it up.
"Seriously, you've already eaten so much and you're still eating. Be careful you don't get to fly if you keep eating." Yorktown gently patted its bald eagle's head, then looked at Rob. "Your dance with Miss New Jersey just now, hmm, quite an eye-opener! Hehehe!" Yorktown couldn't help but laugh out loud at the end. Bumblebee next to them laughed and patted Rob's shoulder, after all, the four of them had witnessed Rob's embarrassing situation just now.
