He paused, then looked at Ying.
"Do not worry,"
He patted his chest, regaining his sunny disposition.
"Now that you've come to Mondstadt, you're my friends! Leave the finding of your brother to me! For one thing, I know Mondstadt very well and I'm well-informed. If I hear any clues about any strange deities or your brother, I'll be the first to let you know!"
Although his words sounded a bit like bragging, his cheerful tone and genuine enthusiasm inexplicably made people feel good about him.
Paimon immediately perked up again: "Really? That's great! Mysterious plane crash guy, even though your appearance was strange, you seem like a pretty nice person!"
Ying smiled slightly. Although she knew that finding her brother would not be easy, it was always good to have more friends and more help.
"Thank you, Yichen."
"Small idea!"
The group chatted idly along the way and soon arrived at Windrise, a place standing on the outskirts of Mondstadt.
The colossal seven-star statue stands silently, benevolently overlooking this land sheltered by the wind.
Yi Chen quickened his pace and arrived at the base of the statue. He casually patted the cold stone base, then pointed his thumb behind him to the statue's blurry yet compassionate face, and introduced it to Ying and Paimon:
"Here, this is Lord Barbatos, the wind god of Mondstadt, the god of freedom and poetry."
According to the legends told by the nuns in the church, thousands of years ago, it was he who dispersed the wind and snow, split the mountains, and led the people of Mondstadt to freedom; he was a truly great god!
"However... this great god is said to have not shown his face for hundreds of years. I wonder where he is now sleeping soundly or drinking for free. So it's more practical to ask me to treat you to a meal than to ask him for blessings."
Ying looked up at the tall statue, and it seemed as if soft whispers were lingering in her ears on the wind.
She involuntarily stepped forward, as if drawn by some invisible force, and slowly reached out her hand to gently touch the base of the statue.
In an instant, a soft and bright turquoise light rippled out from where the statue touched her!
The surrounding wind elements became unusually active, swirling joyfully around her before finally flowing gently into her body like a tranquil stream.
Ying raised her hand in surprise, looking at the wind elemental power that belonged to her as it swirled around her fingertips, and a strange feeling flowed through her whole body.
Yi Chen, who was standing to the side, witnessed the whole process. His mouth was slightly open, and his expression changed from surprise to astonishment.
He slammed his fist down and let out an extremely loud exclamation:
"No way! Is this the legendary cheat code—exclusively for the protagonist, found while walking, given away just by touching a statue, requiring absolutely no hard cultivation, and making all the unlucky ones green with envy?!"
He circled Ying twice, his eyes burning as if he were looking at some rare animal.
"Wow, this is incredible!"
His exaggerated performance and undisguised envy amused the newly empowered and somewhat bewildered Inferno, and even Paimon flew over and put his hands on his hips.
"Hmph! See that mysterious plane crash man? That's the power of us travelers!"
Yi Chen clutched his chest, feigning a deep shock and needing comfort.
"Waaaaah, I feel the deep malice this world has towards non-protagonists... Never mind, you have to eat a lot at dinner later! Eat back all the envy I feel!"
The group chatted and laughed as they finally arrived at the gates of Mondstadt.
The tall stone city gate was open, with Knights of the West standing guard on both sides.
When the knights saw Yi Chen walking at the front, gesturing wildly and talking, their expressions instantly changed from solemn to shocked and worried.
Yi Chen's once decent robes were now tattered and covered in mud, grass clippings, and dark red bloodstains. His face was also covered in dried blood and abrasions, making him look like a deserter who had just crawled back from a brutal battlefield, or someone who had been chased and beaten by dozens of Hilichurls.
"Young Master Yi-Yichen?!"
A young knight's eyes widened, and he nearly dropped his lance.
"What...what happened?! Were you attacked by monsters? Should we go to the cathedral to find Miss Barbara immediately?!"
His voice attracted the attention of another knight beside him, and both of them looked at Yi Chen nervously, as if he was about to collapse on the spot.
Yi Chen belatedly looked down at his "outfit," exclaimed "Oh!" in realization, and then waved his hand dismissively.
"It's nothing, it's nothing! It's a small matter, don't worry about it!"
He stepped aside, making way for Ying and Paimon, who were following behind him and seemed somewhat awkward and curious about the scene.
"By the way, let me introduce you. These two are friends I just met on the road. This is the traveler Ying, and this is Paimon. They are guests from afar and plan to stay in Mondstadt for a while."
The two knights' gazes shifted back and forth between Yi Chen's "small-scale" appearance and the two seemingly clean and harmless strangers several times, their expressions becoming even more confused.
This combination... it looks so weird!
Yi Chen looks like he's been through a fierce battle, yet he still brought back two new friends unharmed?
However, trusting Yi Chen, the two knights didn't ask any further questions, but simply nodded with concern.
"Oh, so you're Yichen's friend... Welcome to Mondstadt."
The young knight struggled to regain his composure and gave Ying and Paimon a standard knightly salute.
May the wind god protect you.
Paimon immediately flew forward and waved in a very convincing manner: "Hello! Knights of Mondstadt!"
Ying nodded slightly in acknowledgment: "I'm sorry to have troubled you."
"No trouble, no trouble!"
Yi Chen chuckled and took over the conversation, leading Ying and Paimon into the city.
"Then let's go in first! We'll talk later!"
After taking a couple of steps, he remembered something and turned back to call out to the two knights.
"Oh, by the way! Could someone please tell Commander Qin that I'm back and that things... uh, are basically resolved! Tell her not to worry! I'll report the details to her in my office later!"
After saying that, he enthusiastically began to point out the sights of Mondstadt to Ying and Paimon.
The two gatekeepers looked at each other, watching his back, which, though ragged, was still full of energy, and could only smile helplessly in the end.
"Brother Yichen... is still the same as always."
Chapter 10 Appearance
"Speaking of which, Yichen,"
After the three of them entered Mondstadt together, Ying finally couldn't help but point to the tattered rags and dried bloodstains on his body, which resembled those of a refugee.
"Are you really planning to stay like this... uh... unique look and show us around Mondstadt forever? Don't you need to go home and change your clothes or... clean up first?"
Paimon nodded frantically beside him.
"Exactly! Although Paimon is looking forward to the feast, he doesn't want to have a meal with a guy who looks like he just crawled out of a battlefield!"
Ying's words made Yi Chen pause in his steps, and the carefree smile on his face finally faded a little. He stroked his chin and revealed a very serious expression of thought.
"Hmm...you make a lot of sense..."
He pondered for a moment, then very naturally and confidently spread his hands.
"But my house was bombed yesterday, and now there's not even a tile left. Forget about a place to change clothes, I don't even have a clean set of clothes to change into."
Ying: "..." (There are too many things to complain about, I don't know where to start)
Paimon: "..." (shocked that someone could state such a tragic fact so calmly)
"...I'm sorry, I shouldn't have asked."
Ying sighed, suddenly realizing that the guy in front of her seemed rather pathetic.
"It's alright, it's alright! It's not a big problem!"
Yi Chen instantly regained his energy, as if he weren't the one who was homeless.
"Come on! I'll take you to 'The Deer Hunter' restaurant! Their honey-glazed carrot and pork stir-fry is absolutely amazing!"
However, when the three of them arrived at the entrance of the Deer Hunter Restaurant with great excitement, they saw a small wooden sign that read "Closed Today" hanging at the door.
"Huh?! How could this happen?!"
Paimon let out a desperate wail.
"Paymont's Honey-Glazed Carrot and Pork Stir-Fry!"
Yi Chen scratched his head: "Looks like the aftereffects of the Wind Demon Dragon's attack haven't worn off yet... No problem! Come with me, I'll take you to another great place!"
He snapped his fingers, leading the two into another street and stopping in front of a rather grand-looking tavern—"Angel's Gift."
Upon entering, the tavern was dimly lit but had a tranquil atmosphere.
Behind the bartender's counter, a man with striking long, fiery red hair was meticulously wiping the wine glasses.
Diluc heard the noise, looked up, and glanced at Yi Chen's tattered and bloodstained clothes.
"Yichen, are you trying to scare away all my guests with that look?"
He gestured to a well-dressed butler beside him.
"Take him to a guest room on the second floor to rest. As a hero who stopped Stormterror from destroying Mondstadt and protected it, he should at least maintain basic decorum."
Yi Chen chuckled and didn't refuse: "Then thank you very much for your sponsorship, Mr. Diluc!"
After a while, when Yichen came down from the second floor again, Ying and Paimon were both stunned.
He changed into a dark-colored aristocratic casual suit provided by Diluc, made of exquisite fabric and with a well-tailored fit. Although the style was not the latest trend, it perfectly accentuated his tall figure and the advantages of his broad shoulders and narrow waist.
The bloodstains on his face had been washed away, revealing his originally fair and handsome features. His black hair had been simply combed, with a few unruly strands hanging down his forehead, adding a touch of casual charm. At first glance, he truly possessed the nobility and elegance of a young master from an ancient aristocratic family.
He descended the stairs step by step, the light outlining his superior profile and upright posture.
Ying instinctively held her breath.
Paimon's mouth gaped open in an "O" shape as he muttered, "It's...it's a lie, right...the mysterious plane crash man actually..."
However, this stunning tranquility lasted for less than three seconds.
Yi Chen raised his chin slightly, a smug and arrogant smile curling at the corner of his mouth.
"So? Aren't you stunned by my handsome, dashing, charming, and irresistible new look? Aren't you breathtakingly handsome? Hahaha!"
That familiar, overly vivid expression and smug tone instantly shattered the facade of a noble young master he had just maintained.
Paimon snapped out of his daze, his face fell, and he clutched his forehead in anguish.
"Oh no... Paimon actually thought he was kind of handsome for a second... It was just my imagination! If only the mysterious plane crash man were mute!"
Hey! You emergency food! What are you saying?!
Upon hearing this, Yi Chen rushed over in three steps, and with quick eyes and hands, he pulled Paimon, who was trying to hide behind Ying, into his arms. Then, without any hesitation, he gave her soft little head and face a series of unrestrained and crazy "rats"!
"Whoaaaaah! Let Paimon go! Help, Traveler! You villain! You pervert! The mysterious crashed man, the great demon king!"
Paimon struggled and thrashed in his arms, issuing a weak and ineffective protest.
Ying looked at the scene that had suddenly turned into chaos, and then at Yi Chen, who, despite wearing aristocratic clothes, behaved in a manner completely devoid of "respectability," and couldn't help but chuckle.
Just then, Diluc walked slowly to Yichen's side, his sharp eyes sweeping over Ying and Paimon.
"Are they your friends?"
Upon hearing Diluc's question, Yi Chen finally let go of Paimon, who was dizzy from being petted, and released her back into the air.
"That's right! A good friend I just met!"
Upon hearing this, Diluc simply nodded slightly and did not ask any further questions. He then walked straight to an empty table next to him and sat down.
Yichen took the opportunity to introduce Ying and Paimon.
"This is none other than Diluc, the richest, most handsome, and most generous wine tycoon in Mondstadt, the owner of 'Gift of Angels'!"
Diluc nodded slightly in greeting to Luminous and Paimon before turning his gaze back to Yichen.
"What are the Knights' plans to do after the Stormterror's attack on the city?"
When the topic turned to business, Yi Chen toned down his playful demeanor and replied.
"Don't worry, the matter has been basically resolved."
Dvalin, the Stormterror, has regained its senses.
In time, the Knights will explain to the people that the culprit behind all this is the Abyss Order, who are lurking in the shadows.
"The Abyss Cult..."
