But Panan was no pushover either. Seeing Vincent knocked down with a single punch, she immediately activated the heavy machine gun on the roof of the car, successfully quelling the situation.
“You didn’t think I came alone, did you?” Vincent was pinned to the ground, but his tone was very tough: “If you want to find the convoy, you have to cooperate with us, otherwise I won’t tell you a word.”
Meredith Stock said menacingly, "If you don't tell me, I'll just kill you all. Don't think you can scare me with a beat-up car!"
“The executives at military technology companies certainly won’t be intimidated by us, but you’ll get nothing if you kill us. Someone has to take the blame for something this big, and that person definitely won’t be your boss. You’ll be held accountable soon. Do you think your fate will be any better than ours? You know the company’s methods better than I do. Maybe you’ll even envy us for our clean and tidy deaths with a single shot to the head!”
Meredith Stock was silent for a moment, her face twitched a few times, and she finally gave in: "What do you want?"
"I need a batch of sniper rifles, five of each of the Asura, Rakshasa, and Nekomata series."
"You know the convoy is carrying Tsunami Military Industry's goods?" Meredith Stock was a little surprised, but she quickly put aside these trivial matters and asked, "The goods aren't in my hands. My promise to you is useless; you have to get the people who are trying to steal them to agree first."
"of course."
What are you planning to do?
"purchase."
“Hmm…” Meredith Stock pondered for a moment, then nodded and said, “Okay, but we’ll have to buy it with our money.”
She pulled a money chip from her pocket and handed it to Vincent: "Take this to pay, and you don't need to worry about the rest."
Vincent took the chip: "Did they add something to it?"
"nonsense."
"Oh, just asking casually. Well then, it's a pleasure to do business with you."
Vincent returned to the car with the money chip and proudly showed it to Panan, saying, "Done!"
"Tch, what's there to be so smug about? It's all thanks to me keeping things in check."
"Yes, yes, thanks to you. I'll treat you to dinner tonight, okay?"
"That's more like it. Sit up, let's go!"
After exchanging a few jokes, the two started the vehicle and drove towards the entire food factory.
Meredith Stock watched them leave and dialed a number.
“Ms. V, it’s me. Yes, I’ve done as you said. As for the mole… well, it really was that bastard Anthony. I understand. Military Technology thanks you for your help.”
Meanwhile, Vincent and Parnan had entered the Whole Foods factory and made contact with Doom Doom.
The Vortex Gang didn't steal military technology vehicles to breed; they would sell to anyone who wanted to buy them. Vincent offered a reasonable price, and Doom Doom readily delivered the goods. Unfortunately, the moment the money chip was inserted into the Vortex Gang's card reader, it destroyed their ICE and burned their hackers to death on the spot.
Royce, the leader of the Vortex Gang, was enraged and immediately sounded the alarm. Vincent and Parnan, who were prepared, charged outwards, their seamless teamwork making them unstoppable. Finally, they fought Royce, who was wearing an exoskeleton, inside the warehouse. Parnan drew fire while Vincent flanked him from the side, destroying the exoskeleton with a plasma grenade. Royce himself was then shot in the head by Parnan and killed instantly.
"Good marksmanship," Vincent complimented.
“You’re not bad either,” Panan retorted, then asked, “What brand was that grenade? It was really powerful.”
"I made them myself. I'll send you a few if you like them later."
"You can make grenades? Are amateur scientists this amazing these days?" Panan was surprised. "Okay, give me ten. It's almost the holidays, I'll take them back to Camp Adcado as gifts."
As the two packed their belongings, they walked out of the All Foods factory. Meredith Stock arrived with a large contingent of military technology personnel.
"Mr. Vincent, the company is very satisfied with you," the slicked-back-haired, mature woman said, a cigarette between her fingers. "Would you be interested in working for me?"
"We'll see," Vincent said, neither accepting nor refusing. "Let me finish this order first."
"Okay, you know my phone number."
Meredith Stock waved his hand, and the soldiers of Military Technology made way for Vincent and Parnan to leave.
"You're not really planning to join the company, are you?" Panan asked.
"Of course not, I just didn't want to make things awkward, since there are more of them."
"Phew, that's good. Let me tell you, there's not a single good person in this company."
Vincent smiled: "Of course, no wanderer doesn't hate the company."
Panan laughed too: "We really do have something in common. What's next?"
"Let's eat. It's late, so it's on me."
"Okay, then I'll choose the restaurant."
Panan was very generous, and Vincent was not pretentious either. The two got into the car and drove towards the shopping street in the Kabuki district.
But after driving for a short while, Panan frowned.
“Vincent, I feel something’s not right.”
Vincent noticed it too. He glanced in the rearview mirror and pulled out his pistol: "The two cars behind us have been following us. Watch out, they're coming!"
As soon as he finished speaking, two muscle cars suddenly accelerated and slammed on both sides. Panan quickly braked to slow down and barely managed to avoid them.
Several Vortex Gang members leaned out of the muscle car with weapons and opened fire on Panan's car: "Damn it, how dare you wreck our Vortex Gang's territory! Kill these two bastards!"
Faced with overwhelming firepower, Panan turned the steering wheel and fled. But the Vortex Gang was no pushover either, relentlessly pursuing him like glue.
Seeing his beloved car riddled with holes, Panan was furious and immediately activated the heavy machine gun on the roof, blasting the muscle car to smithereens.
"Haha, now you know how powerful I am, you stupid Vortex Gang!"
Panan shouted excitedly and prepared to take out the remaining vehicle, but with a click, the heavy machine gun on the roof jammed, which made their situation turn around drastically, and they were once again forced to flee in panic by the Vortex Gang.
"This can't go on, the car won't last much longer!" Vincent shouted.
"I fucking know, but the old gun on the roof has given up again! Damn it, I'm going to replace it when I get back this time!" Panan was also sweating nervously.
"Don't wait until next time, let's do it now." Vincent turned around and lay down on Panan's lap, sticking his head under the steering wheel and pulling open the circuit panel.
"What the hell are you going to do to my precious car?" Panan, a grown man lying on her lap, didn't feel anything, but when she saw Vincent pull open the door panel, she panicked.
“I’ll fix your gun.” Vincent said without looking up, “Two capacitors are burnt out, and another gear assembly is badly worn. I’ll figure out a way to bypass this circuit, temporarily build a new one, and then connect the two good capacitors in series to draw power directly from the battery. This will bypass the fuse, which might melt the circuit, but it will greatly enhance the firepower…”
Panan was busy dodging attacks from behind and didn't have time to listen to Vincent's explanation: "What the hell are you babbling about?"
"I told them I fixed the machine gun, but I only have one chance to fire!"
"What good is one time?"
"Never mind that, one shot now is worth a hundred shots in the past, shoot!"
Panan, enraged, slammed his fist on the fire button. The heavy machine gun on the roof of the car shot out a beam of light, hitting the Vortex Gang's muscle car directly. The car and the road were blown apart with a loud bang, creating a huge crater.
"Holy crap!" Panan exclaimed in surprise as he saw everything in the rearview mirror: "Live ammunition turned into laser weapons, Vincent, you're really something!"
"hey-hey!"
"Hey, how long are you going to stay glued to my lap? Why don't you just cum too!"
"Oh, is that alright?"
"Of course not!!!"
Chapter 201 Vincent's Training Plan (Part Four)
The fifteen sniper rifles bought from the Vortex Gang were disassembled into a pile of parts, which covered the entire floor of Vincent's apartment.
"Are you really planning to make a sniper rifle by hand?" Panan asked, lounging on the sofa and drinking beer.
Vincent sat on the floor, rummaging through the pile of parts: "I'm not kidding, I think I can do it."
"If you think it's useless, tell me what you plan to do?"
"Take the essence and combine it into one."
"What do you mean?"
Vincent explained, “Tsunami Military Industry has three sniper rifles: Ashura, Rakshasa, and Neko. Ashura is an intelligent sniper rifle, and I need its intelligent locking system. Rakshasa and Neko are technical sniper rifles, and I need the former’s overclocking module and the latter’s electromagnetic accelerator. Once these three are combined, the bullet’s speed and destructive power can be greatly increased. In my calculations, penetrating military vehicles will be no problem.”
Panan pursed his lips: "It sounds pretty reckless, but it fits the characteristics of amateur scientists. So you ordered five of each series of sniper rifles, just in case they accidentally explode and you have spare parts to try again?"
“No.” Vincent disassembled the same part of the fifteen guns and laid them out in a row: “In order to have enough power, I have to connect enough kinetic energy modules in series, which is why I bought five of each series of guns.”
"Holy crap!" Panan couldn't help but exclaim, "The kinetic energy modules of all fifteen guns are connected in series, are you sure this thing won't explode?"
"Probably not."
"Just should?!" Panan sighed. "Never mind, you're the one firing the shot, not me. Good luck. By the way, it's late, I'll stay here for the night."
Vincent paused, then said, "Isn't that inappropriate? A man and a woman alone in a room together..."
"It's 2077 already, you're acting like an old fogey from the Middle Ages. It's settled then, I'm going to take a shower." Panan scoffed, "What's a gay guy like me?"
"I'm not gay..."
Before Vincent could finish his sentence, Panan slammed the bathroom door shut.
Listening to the sound of running water, Vincent's mind wandered, and he could only focus on modifying the guns, which finally brought him back to calm. Then, Panan came out barefoot in his underwear after showering, startling Vincent, who quickly ducked into the bathroom.
"Holy crap, so pure."
When Vincent came out, Panan was already asleep in bed. Looking at his carefree and unguarded sleeping posture, Vincent swallowed hard. But as the Great Demon King, he possessed a firm will and lofty moral pursuits. In the end, he simply covered Panan with a blanket and then turned back to his technical work on gun modification.
Panan woke up as dawn broke. She stretched and rubbed her eyes, and saw a sniper rifle with a rugged, vagrant, bad-world style lying among the parts on the ground—can you believe some of the parts were even twisted together with wire?
"Holy crap, it actually worked?"
Panan's voice startled Vincent, who was dozing against the wall. He pulled back the blanket and shook his head, saying, "It's not completely finished yet. I still need some special components."
"What component?"
"High-capacity, high-energy batteries, 1080K high-speed sights, and the highest level of high-conductivity coolant."
"What are all these for?"
"High-capacity, high-energy batteries are used to provide power, which can enable bullets to reach speeds of Mach 16."
“Mach 16?!” Panan exclaimed in surprise. “I heard from Scorpion that the best sniper rifle in the army is only Mach 10.”
Who is Scorpion?
"I have a buddy in Adcado, a veteran, but that's not important. Can your gun really fire bullets that fast enough to reach Mach 16?"
"As long as we can get our hands on high-capacity, high-energy batteries, that will be fine, but that will also create another problem."
"What's the problem?"
"The bullets are flying too fast for Asura's built-in scope to track, which makes it impossible for the aiming system to draw the trajectory and start working."
"So you need a better scope, the 1080K high-speed scope you just mentioned?"
"That's right, 1080K isn't important, what's important is the high speed."
"What about the highest-grade, highly conductive coolant?"
"This gun generates a lot of heat during the charging phase. Without a high-grade coolant, it would self-destruct and blow me away."
Panan suddenly realized: "Won't it explode if there's coolant?"
"No, it will still explode, but I probably won't be able to fly anymore."
"..." Panan was speechless for a moment: "So this gun is disposable?"
Vincent shrugged: "I just scraped together some money, I guess I'll just have to make do."
"Alright," Panan nodded. "Where are we going to get those things you mentioned?"
"Tom's Restaurant".
"Tom's Restaurant?!" Panan exclaimed in surprise. "Why would a restaurant have these things? Is it like in Mewtwo, where the place appears to be a restaurant but is actually an underground trading market?"
"Of course not, what I mean is I've been working all night and I'm really hungry, let's go get some breakfast first."
Panan: "..."
Vincent laughed and said, "But it's quite cute that you could make so many connections in such a short time."
Panan blushed and said, "Get out of here!"
The two had breakfast at Tom's restaurant, picking their teeth and digesting their food while seated at their tables.
"Now you can tell me where to get those components you mentioned," Panan asked.
“It’s very simple.” Vincent was as confident as ever: “Get the high-energy batteries from Comtau, the high-speed scopes from the Crossroads, and the high-conductivity coolant from the Voodoo Gang.”
"The Voodoo Gang?" Panan asked curiously. "It's not surprising that Contau, an energy giant, has high-energy batteries, and it's not surprising that Kiloos, the world's largest supplier of optical products, has high-speed sights. But the Voodoo Gang is just a small gang in Night City. Why would they have the highest level of high-conductivity coolant?"
“It’s simple, because they are hackers, and very skilled hackers,” Vincent explained. “Hackers undergo highly advanced cybernetic modifications to stay in cyberspace for longer periods. These cybernetic bodies generate a lot of heat when they are working, and the human brain cannot withstand such temperatures. Therefore, learning how to cool down becomes a mandatory course for hackers. Street hackers immerse themselves in ice to cool down, while government hackers connect to hacker chairs and inject coolants into their bodies through intelligent control programs to maintain a healthy body temperature.”
