Hell Game: Starting from Metropolis

Beethoven watched his retreating figure with a complex expression, then took the Moonsword from his back and held the blade to his ear.
"Sacred moonlight, my true mentor, please guide me on the path I should take."
Beethoven knelt on one knee, bowed his head, and murmured to himself.
The other hunters watched this scene silently, their faces solemn.
-
“Hello, stranger. I am Andrina the hunter, a guide sent by High Priest Amelia.”
As soon as I left the workshop, a woman dressed in a black church hunter suit approached me.
Her hunter's outfit was basically the same as the church hunters patrolling the central square, except that there was a drop of red blood on the holy cloth on her back.
"Just call me Liu Zheng or the deliveryman, it sounds awkward to me if I'm from out of town."
Liu Zheng picked at his ear and said.
I always felt that this title made him seem despicable.
"Okay, deliveryman."
Andrina readily agreed.
Seriously, can't you guys just call me by my name properly?
Liu Zheng cursed inwardly.
"So, delivery driver, where are we going now?"
"Andrina asked."
"Shouldn't I be asking you that? Aren't you the guide?"
He squinted and said.
“I have reviewed your item list. I need to confirm the priority of the items to be collected, or do you need to take care of other things first?”
Andrina's answer was very formal and methodical.
"I see. Then let's go collect those monster materials first, prioritizing those that are closest to us."
Liu Zheng thought for a moment and then said.
"The nearest monster material is the Madman's Eye. If you're ready, I'll take you there now."
Andrina replied immediately.
"Row."
"This way."
Andrina led the way, and the three of them headed towards New Atlantis.
Chapter 289 Is this for the guys in pajamas?
After the old Atlantis was burned down, the Atlanteans built the new Atlantis next to it.
Under the church's auspices, New Athens' urban area became larger and its urban development more complete.
The most typical example is the more complex urban transportation system, with an exaggerated number of ladders and small passageways placed in various communities or corners of the city.
People believed that wild animals could not climb over these ladders and passages, thus protecting themselves.
Objectively, these measures have indeed been effective in preventing wild animals from entering the area, but they have also caused a considerable number of accidents every year.
As for which number is greater or less, the Church of Blood Healing has not conducted any relevant statistics.
Another typical example is the sewer system of New Asia.
Compared to the near-medieval standard of living here, New Athens' sewer system was already at a modern level, so large that it could almost be used as an underground refuge.
Of course, that was indeed the purpose of the initial design.
After so many years of use, the sewers have completely turned into a garbage dump.
Perhaps some corners have been cleared out to create safe hiding places, but many more places have become gathering places for patients with the beast disease and mutated animals.
Even hunters dare not enter the sewers during such extraordinary times as the "Pale Night".
On the one hand, it was unnecessary, and on the other hand, they didn't know what kind of strange things would grow in the sewers over the years.
But at this moment, three people with different styles were standing at the entrance to the sewer.
One was dressed in a church hunter's outfit, another in a pullover and sweatpants, and the third in a vest and a dragon robe.
The woman in the hunter's outfit had a stiff expression, the man in the pullover looked sleazy, and only the man in the dragon robe was handsome and dashing with extraordinary bearing.
These three people were naturally Liu Zheng and his two henchmen, Xia Kai and Andrina.
"What kind of ingredient is this?"
he asked.
"A set of offal from a man-eating wild boar. You even specifically noted that it should not be washed."
Andrina replied.
Her memory was astonishing; she memorized the list provided by Liu Zheng in a very short time.
"Is this happening?"
Liu Zheng took out the purchase list and checked it.
"It really is. Could this have been specially prepared for that guy in pajamas?"
His eye twitched.
Just thinking about his previous experience of having his intestines sucked out made his stomach ache a little.
I wonder if the intestines of this man-eating wild boar are flavorful enough to satisfy that perverted taster.
"By the way, you all know there's a man-eating wild boar here, why don't you send someone to get rid of it?"
Liu Zheng asked.
“The church is always short-staffed, so mutated animals like man-eating boars, which are not a big threat, are a low priority for elimination.”
Andrina explained.
"They've already eaten people, so they're not a big threat?"
"Delivery driver, what wild animal roaming the streets doesn't eat people?"
Andrina countered with a question.
"What you said makes a lot of sense, I'm speechless. Let's go."
Liu Zheng led the way down the suspended ladder leading into the sewer.
The sewers were very dark, with only moonlight filtering in through some pre-drilled holes providing light.
"Delivery driver, do you need lighting? If you turn on the lantern, it might attract the attention of creatures in the sewer."
Andrina reminded her.
"That's perfect, let's order."
He nodded.
"Follow your orders."
Andrina said respectfully.
Compared to her previous formulaic communication, her tone carried a hint of sincerity.
There's no way around it; any hunter who sees Liu Zheng effortlessly slaughtering those terrifying monsters would be filled with respect for such a powerful figure.
Not to mention, his handling of monster corpses was even more professional than that of a real hunter.
With a snapping sound, a faint glimmer of light appeared in the darkness.
Immediately afterwards, a flame the size of a human head lit up, illuminating the area around the three people.
"Your lanterns are quite impressive."
Liu Zheng squinted and said.
Judging by the fire, it's big enough to roast a whole lamb.
"Because wild animals are afraid of fire, Atlantis has conducted in-depth research on fire."
Andrina took his criticism as a compliment.
"Be careful of playing with fire and getting burned."
Liu Zheng said something meaningful, then walked forward.
The further you go in, the stronger the stench becomes.
However, compared to the sewers of the metropolis, which are filled with countless chemical or mystical waste, the stench of the Atlanta sewers is much milder.
But the Atlanta sewers also have their own unique characteristics, namely, an odor that smells like rotting blood.
"Fuck!"
Xia Kai shouted.
"what?"
Liu Zheng asked irritably.
"Hey boss, look over there."
Xia Kai pointed to a shadowy area.
Liu Zheng looked in the direction he was pointing and saw several strange creatures staring at them with eyes that looked like rotten egg yolks.
They look like mice, but they are much larger than normal mice, about the size of a human head.
Their thick fur covers their entire bodies, but it's not fluffy like that of cats and dogs; instead, it has a hard, smooth, metallic texture.
What's even more terrifying are their limbs, which are like human hands but deformed.
"Just a few mice, what's there to be afraid of?"
Liu Zheng said irritably.
It's ugly and weird, so its fighting ability must be terrible.
Look at the creatures in the sewers of the metropolis; even the skinned monster has a kind of muscular beauty.
Xia Kai didn't dare to talk back, but just gave him a resentful look.
Who's as carefree as you, remaining so calm even when someone sucks your guts out?
The fact that he didn't turn around and run away in fear of such a sanity-draining thing shows that he was already showing consideration for his dignity as a player.
Is it on the list?
Liu Zheng turned to Andrina and asked.
"No."
The hunter shook her head.
"Then you're lucky. Get lost."
He raised the boning knife towards the human-handed rat.
As if it understood, the human-handed rat, with its tail covered in tumor-like protrusions, ran towards the deeper shadows.
They ran and chirped, their sounds echoing through the sewers.
"Are they calling for someone?"
Xia Kai asked worriedly.
"That would be perfect. If we could bring the man-eating wild boars over, I wouldn't have to search for them."
Liu Zheng said nonchalantly.
"The boss is right."
Xia Kai nodded vigorously.
