Volume 4, "Anything Can Happen in Gensokyo": Chapter 15 Nana: I have a plan!

During dinner, Mengmeng and Nana occupied the seats on either side of Mu Huai, constantly telling him about their experiences in this world. The two sisters' unique and pleasant voices made the food in his bowl even more delicious.

"Speaking of which... you sisters really are quite different."

Tornado paused subtly halfway through her sentence, her eyes quickly scanning the chests of the three people, and finally she sadly realized that she seemed to be only able to fight Nana to a draw.

"Having your own personality isn't a bad thing. In fact, it would be inconvenient if sisters were exactly the same, like being mistaken for someone else."

After saying that, a sudden inspiration flashed through Lala's mind. Her eyes lit up as she turned to Mu Huai and asked, "How about I invent a gadget that can make two people look the same? That way we can play 'Guess Who I Am'!"

"Is it really necessary to invent this kind of gadget? I feel like it'll be used once or twice and then just left to gather dust in the warehouse."

Mu Huai thought it was pointless, but that didn't stop the other girls from finding it interesting. Someone said, "If we all looked the same, would Mu Huai be able to recognize us?"

The living room fell silent instantly, the girls blinking their sparkling eyes and staring at him without saying a word.

"Sigh... If you guys want to play, then let Lala do it, but we need to find out about the side effects beforehand."

"Great!!!"

The girls devoured dinner and then crowded around Lala as they entered the guest room, eager to watch her invent the gadgets. Mu Huai, both amused and exasperated, helped them clear away the dishes.

Just as he put the dishes in the sink, a pair of slender, fair hands wrapped around his waist from behind.

Mu Huai didn't turn around, but the faint floral fragrance wafting through the air told him that the person behind him was Mengmeng: "Aren't you going to watch your sister invent props?"

"It's more important to wash the dishes with my brother-in-law."

"Hey, since you've said that, why don't you let go and help me?"

"Ugh~ Can't you let me hug you a little longer?"

"Then I'll let you hug me for three more seconds. Three, two, one! Time's up, come and help me wash the dishes."

"My brother-in-law has absolutely no sense of atmosphere!"

Mengmeng pouted her upper lip in dissatisfaction, let go of her hand and walked to the side. She was pleasantly surprised to find that the bowls and chopsticks in the pool had been washed clean. When she met Mu Huai's teasing gaze, she couldn't help but blush.

"How did you wash so quickly?"

"Because I smelled a different floral fragrance on you than I have before."

"You smelled it!" Mengmeng's purple eyes sparkled with delight. She had specially sprayed a new perfume made from underground plants before entering the kitchen, and Mu Huai's ability to easily recognize it surprised her greatly.

"Even though we've been apart for so long, my brother-in-law still remembers my scent. I'm so happy."

"Don't talk about me like I'm a pervert. The flow of time here is different from Gensokyo. You've only been gone for less than two weeks."

"Oh, I see. Nana and I have been here for more than a month, and we originally planned to go back this weekend."

A brief silence fell between them. Then, Mengmeng exuded an even sweeter, richer floral fragrance. She gently pressed her delicate body against Mu Huai's chest, her face buried against his chest, and mumbled, "Brother-in-law, have you missed me these past few days?"

He raised his hand and gently stroked her soft pink hair, his fingertips tracing down from the ends of her hair, finally reaching her small, pink earlobe through the strands: "I have thought about it, especially when we're taking a bath."

Mengmeng's shoulders trembled slightly, knowing he was referring to the intimate things that had happened between them in the bathroom. For the first time, joy overshadowed her shyness.

She timidly raised her head and asked softly, "Then, brother-in-law, are you... thinking about it now?"

Mu Huai didn't answer, but picked her up and carried her towards the bathroom.

Mengmeng covered her flushed face with her hands and leaned against him, feeling both shy and nervous.

A month had passed, and she worried that her skills might have become rusty and she wouldn't be able to give him a better experience. But it would be too foolish to refuse such a rare opportunity because of this.

About half an hour after the two went into the bathroom, Nana walked out of the room with a sigh of relief. She noticed that the bathroom light was on and that she did not see Mu Huai and Meng Meng in the living room.

Convinced that the two were definitely taking a shower in the bathroom, he ground his back teeth in annoyance.

She had originally wanted to take advantage of the fact that everyone was in the room to be alone with Mu Huai, but when she entered the room, Mengmeng deliberately pushed her to the front, and she was too embarrassed to leave openly in front of the others.

This allowed her cunning younger sister to exploit the situation, causing her to act a step slower.

"But... what exactly was that amazing thing Mengmeng mentioned before?"

During a break from her dungeon adventure, Mengmeng revealed that she did something quite remarkable in the bathroom, but she didn't elaborate on what she did. Instead, the others gave her suspicious smiles after seeing her drink water.

Nana is still completely baffled, but now that there's a chance to find out, she naturally won't miss it.

She tiptoed along the wall to the bathroom door, gently pushed it open, and peeked through the crack. From the reflection on the glass door, she could vaguely see Mengmeng's shadow undulating.

If you listen carefully, you can hear another different sound of water, which comes out intermittently.

Nana pulled her upper body back from the crack in the door, pinched her chin, slid down against the wall to the ground, and fell into thought.

"Hmm... Could it be... that Mengmeng is letting her brother-in-law taste the honeydew from her hydroponic plants?"

She vaguely remembered that on Mengmeng's plant planet, there was a peculiar plant that would wither immediately upon being removed from water, called "Straw Bamboo Lotus".

Aside from having the character "lotus" in its name, it has absolutely nothing to do with lotus flowers. It has a bamboo-like exterior that looks like a straw inserted into the water, and inside it produces a sweet nectar that can purify the water and is also drinkable.

In the past, when the two sisters had a craving, they would use a teleportation phone to send the upper part of the bamboo lotus straw to them, and then insert the long straw to suck the honey inside, making the same sound as the water sounds that occasionally came from the bathroom.

"But is it really necessary to drink this kind of stuff in the bathroom?"

Nana was completely baffled and had no idea how long the two of them planned to stay inside, so she simply went back to her room and looked through the pink books she had borrowed from Ais.

When she peeked through her wide-open fingers at a particular page, the striking image immediately reminded her of the scene in the bathroom, and she instantly realized what was happening.

"So Mengmeng was doing this kind of thing?! Damn it, if this happens, I'll be left far behind her?"

Unwilling to admit defeat and somewhat stubborn, Nana immediately abandoned her shame and diligently studied the knowledge in the books. In the end, she actually found a way to surpass her younger sister in one fell swoop.

Taking advantage of the fact that everyone was asleep late at night, they launched a night raid on Mu Huai.

The next morning.

Mengmeng walked into the living room and found a pot of chrysanthemum tea brewing in front of Mu Huai, who was sipping the tea.

"Nana said she doesn't want to go on an adventure in the dungeon today, and asked me to let you know."

"understood."

Lala's invention didn't take long. Two days later, she excitedly ran to Mu Huai with a bell-shaped object in her hands, holding it up like a treasure.

"Ta-da! The 'Identical Transformation Guy' is complete!"

"I know you're excited, but tell me about the side effects of this item first."

"After using it to transform into someone else's appearance, you cannot eat food, otherwise the transformation will be immediately canceled and you will not be able to wear any clothes. The transformation effect lasts for half a day."

"What kind of strange side effect is this..."

Hearing Mu Huai's complaint, Lala scratched her head sheepishly: "Hehehe... After all, it's a very rigorous process to completely transform someone's appearance into another person. Consuming food can easily disrupt the balance I've designed."

"Then the transformation energy is released outwards, indiscriminately destroying the fabric on the body."

"The side effects of this product have been clearly explained. Are you still going to use it?" Mu Huai asked, looking at the row of small heads huddled together by the door frame.

Tornado confidently stated, "We just need to fill our stomachs before using our props, Lala, we should be able to drink water, right?"

"Water is fine, but it can't be water containing sugar."

"That's not difficult for me."

With Tornado taking the lead, the other girls also expressed their intention to use "The Same Transformation Master".

Then they pulled Lala along mysteriously and ran into the storage room. About three minutes later, a group of Lala pushed open the door and came out.

Apart from the different styles and colors of the stockings they wore, they were completely identical.

Even Mu Huai felt a little dizzy for a moment, but fortunately he remembered what kind of socks Lala was wearing when she ran over. He walked up to the real Lala and pinched her rosy cheeks.

"How come they all look like you?"

"Hehe, because everyone thinks it will be more interesting this way."

Mu Huai remained skeptical of this answer. A quick glance at the other "Lala" revealed two of them holding their ample breasts with obvious affection, as if they had acquired some rare treasure.

It's obvious at a glance that it's Nana and Tornado. Only the two of them with small breasts would react so obviously to Lala's big head that she could bury it in.

"Ah...we seem to have a plan to go on a dungeon adventure today. Will we be too weak to fight in our current state?"

Lala gave a thumbs up, confidently stating, "Don't worry, the 'Identical Transformation Guy' only changes appearance; it won't affect your control over your bodies. You'll feel the same way you did before."

"Let's just go and adventure on a safer floor, since we can't modify our armor or anything like that."

"Agreed!"

The "clone Lala army" sandwiched Mu Huai in the middle, marching in a mighty procession toward the Tower of Babel.

The completely identical sextuplets stunned the onlookers, who were filled with envy for Mu Huai, who was sandwiched between them.

The girls' original intention in using the invention was to make Mu Huai guess who they were, but when it came to the battle, their individual fighting styles instantly gave them away.

He didn't need to guess; he could tell who was who just by looking at their weapons and fighting styles.

Clearly, this wasn't the scene the girls wanted to see. While resting on the safe floor, they took off their gear and socks, then formed a circle around Mu Huai, grinning mischievously as they said in unison, "Guess who I am!"

"Hmm...besides looking, are there any other ways for me to distinguish them?"

"Okay." One of Lala answered very simply, then shut her mouth and kept a straight face so that he wouldn't see any flaw.

"That makes things easier."

Mu Huai bent down and squeezed out of the girls' circle. He then paused for a moment behind each of Lala's girls. Among the six, only Lala was so nervous that she wanted to turn around and look at him.

Upon noticing this detail, Mu Huai pointed at her and laughed, "This is Nana."

"You're kidding me, right? How could you recognize her after just one walk around in the back?"

(Because only Nana, across the river, still sings of the flowers in the courtyard.)

He silently complained in his heart, then walked back to the remaining five people, his gaze sweeping over their moist lips.

Another Lala instinctively reacted to his gaze and was immediately recognized.

"You are Mengmeng!"

"You guessed right again..."

The remaining four looked at each other in surprise, seemingly not expecting him to recognize them in such a short time.

"Hmph~ You're still a long way from challenging me!" Mu Huai smirked smugly, then swiftly patted their tails.

"Ah!" The real Lala cried out, her limbs giving way as she collapsed to the ground.

"Alright! Lala's out too, now it's just the three of you left..."

In less than a minute, Mu Huai recognized the true identities of the three people. The surviving Long Juan and the others did not want him to recognize them easily, but they were also worried that he would mistake them for someone else.

Fortunately, he didn't let them struggle for too long. With lightning speed, he stroked the tops of all three heads at the same time, and then skillfully used his right hand to block a small foot that was kicking at him.

Mu Huai's smile grew even more smug: "Tornado, you're out too. Then, on the left is Ryu and on the right is Ais."

"You didn't guess wrong about a single person. Not to mention Nana, my older sister, and me, what did you use to distinguish between Ais and her brother-in-law?"

"It's simple. Tornado is a tsundere and doesn't like being patted on the head, even if it's me, she'll instinctively retaliate."

"Who's being arrogant? You're the arrogant one, your whole family is arrogant."

Mu Huai spread his hands and looked helplessly at Mengmeng: "See? Wasn't I right?"

"Indeed, what about Ais and Ryu?"

"I also distinguish them by patting their heads. Ryu will show a very enjoyable expression when I pat her head, while Ais will pat my head in return after I pat her head. I call this killing three birds with one stone, isn't that amazing?"

Mengmeng was completely convinced. No wonder her brother-in-law had such a large harem; how could he not end up with a chopping block? No girl could withstand such meticulous observation and memory.

If he weren't so dense and said more sweet words, he could easily charm them into becoming pregnant women.

Half a day passed in the blink of an eye. The group left the dungeon and, as usual, exchanged their loot for Fali. Mengmeng and Nana's journey in another world officially came to an end, and they returned to Gensokyo with Muhuai and Lala.

Their biggest gain from this trip wasn't the bizarre plants and animals in the underground city, but rather that their relationship with Mu Huai had taken another big step forward, and they were very close to the time when they felt they could officially confess their feelings.

It was already 10 p.m. when they returned to Gensokyo. In order not to disturb the rest of the others, the three sisters went back to their own homes.

Mu Huai wasn't sleepy, so he jumped onto the rooftop and ate sunflower seeds while watching the bright crescent moon over Pelican Town.

His solitude didn't last long; Komeiji Satoru came looking for him for some reason.
