Perhaps feeling that these people were not worth her time, she said nothing, pulled the girl out of the recruit's arms, and removed the crossbow bolts from her body one by one.
The blood-stained crossbow bolts hovered in mid-air, looking particularly eerie. Then, she took out a crystal bottle from somewhere and personally fed the spring water inside to the girl who had fainted from blood loss.
A miracle occurred; everyone watched in horror as the girl's wounds healed at a visible speed. The huntress, enraged, demanded, "Do you know how many lives she's taken?! Why are you helping a monster?!"
The next moment, all the suspended crossbow bolts trembled, changed direction in unison, and pierced through the huntress's entire body in her terrified gaze.
Syndra never needs an excuse; she acts entirely on her own whims, and anyone who makes her uncomfortable is in for a world of trouble.
The wolfhound howled in agony, and having broken free of its master, it immediately charged at Syndra. Like a moth drawn to a flame, it was snapped in the neck, its body tossed to the branches of a tree.
Vayne stared at the two corpses, wisely refraining from making any rash moves, and remained silent. In all her years as a witcher, she had never felt such intense oppression from a single person.
"Take her away from here, I'll deal with the rest. But if you try to do anything, don't blame me for killing you too," Syndra said to the recruit. The recruit, feeling like he'd been granted a pardon, grabbed the girl and ran off, forgetting even to pick up his weapon.
After being saved by the bird demon at the cost of his life, he decided to throw the laws of the country aside. To hell with the demon hunters! This isn't a monster; this is his sister!
She hadn't walked far when she suddenly stopped, cautiously turning her head to ask, "Excuse me... are you the fallen witch my sister is looking for?"
"A fallen witch?" Syndra never expected to be mistaken for someone else. She neither denied nor nodded, leaving the question to haunt the other person for the rest of their life.
After chasing the siblings away, she turned to look at Vayne, the demon hunter who had harmed the most harpies. Just as she was about to crush her to death, she heard Wild Hunt mutter a few complaints.
“It’s absurd. A hideous monster risks its life to protect a stranger, while a seemingly human hunter betrays his companion as bait.” The Wild Hunt shrugged. “But if you had acted sooner, they wouldn’t be injured like this.”
"It's just one bottle of your Blessed Water, why are you being so petty?" Syndra complained. The Wild Hunt had placed a lot of Blessed Water in the hive, just in case.
“I don’t mind, I just think you’re being a bit awkward. You were clearly about to make a move, but to make yourself seem less casual, you waited until the person was almost dead before you acted.”
"Mind your own business!" Syndra was furious at being called out. She didn't want to be seen as a good person and was about to take her anger out on Vayne, but Wild Hunt stopped her.
“Leave this person to me. She has some grudge against Evelyn, so it’s a good opportunity to let Cassiopeia practice on her.”
"up to you."
Chapter 527 Mother of the Veil
The solitary Syndra ventured deeper into the forest, where the pine trees were denser, and the midday sun could only cast dappled patterns of light between the shadows.
Suddenly she stopped in her tracks. A huge, moss-covered rock blocked her way, but as she approached, she saw a stone statue that had been decayed by time.
The statue's left arm is broken off at the shoulder, but its right hand is outstretched, as if inviting her to come forward. Above her head, there must have once been an exquisite veil, but now it is covered by vines.
Her shoulders bore two feathered, mangled limbs, giving her a dilapidated and wretched appearance. Part of her face had been deliberately mutilated, and the remaining half was not beautiful either, with one eye filled with filth and an expression of disgust.
“The Mother of the Veils.” Syndra looked the statue up and down. Wild Hunt had told her that it was a figure akin to a reclusive sage.
Although few speak with her, people believe she is older than the dawn and wiser than anyone on earth. When people have disputes they cannot resolve, they seek her out for answers.
They sought wisdom and forgiveness—and occasionally, punishment in return. But their visits were always conducted with great caution, for people knew that the lessons she imparted could be severe.
Syndra used her magic to search the surrounding area and finally located a hidden cave within range.
"Finally found you." She put her hands on her hips and sighed with relief. Searching for someone deep in the mountains and forests was no easy task.
Half an hour later, Syndra entered a cave lit by many candles. Water dripped from the ceiling, and strange potions were placed on the walls. The air smelled of grave soil and moss, and dozens of raven-black feathers were scattered on the ground.
She looked around; there wasn't even a table. Piles of books were haphazardly stacked in corners and on wooden crates. Birdcages hung from the ceiling, but no birds were inside.
"The owner of this cave is someone who doesn't like to tidy up," Syndra commented.
"Where is he? Is this some kind of test, requiring you to sort and organize all the books here before he'll show himself?" Wild Hunt joked.
"Get lost." Syndra didn't find this funny at all. Thousands of books—even if she had magic that allowed her to avoid bending down to pick them up, figuring out their purpose and categorizing them would be a rather tedious task.
She noticed a dark purple altar in the center of the cave, and the pool within it reflected her face like a mirror. It wasn't a simple reflection, but rather an eerie, third-person perspective, like a crystal ball used by a witch for divination.
A figure emerged silently from the shadows to meet her—it was a masked man.
She stood barefoot on the cold, rocky ground, a black headscarf obscuring most of her face, but her strange, tear-streaked eyes gleamed with a purple light through the veil. The chains only bound her wings, not her limbs, which made it take Syndra some time to consider her intentions, prompting her to speak first.
"Fallen Witch, what brings you here?" The other person's voice was full of energy, but it surprised Syndra as soon as they spoke.
"Reversing the Heavenly Gang, it seems you're the real leader, aren't you?" she retorted, narrowing her eyes. (The rest of the text appears to be nonsensical and unrelated to the previous sentences.)
“I know everything that happened in the forest,” Morgana explained, raising her hands in a Zen-like gesture, her fingers forming a delicate orchid shape. “Tell me, have you come seeking wisdom, or forgiveness?”
“It’s not your place to forgive me.” Morgana’s casual, instructive tone annoyed Syndra, who threw half of the divine sword in front of Morgana and demanded, “Do you remember this sword?”
"Where did you get this sword?" The expression beneath the veil changed abruptly.
Morgana certainly remembered the sword; it was a sword passed down from their mother. The two sisters each took half, but after she gave it up, Kyle should have been holding it.
At this moment, her mindset also changed. The other party knew her identity. They came for Morgana, the Star Spirit's Daughter, not the Veiled Woman of Demacia's legend.
"Where else could it be? Of course, it was taken from your dear sister." The Wild Hunt rarely showed himself in front of someone who wasn't a member of his family, because he felt that Syndra was unable to communicate calmly and fully convey his thoughts.
Naked, he pulled a robe from the insect hive to cover himself, lest he be too indecent or impolite. Of course, he could also grab Syndra as a shield, but he would likely be kicked away and crushed into mincemeat.
"This all started with a great battle that took place near Mount Targon..." Wild Hunt described the events to Morgana, who stared at him the whole time.
He first explained the nature of the war: a group of war criminals who wanted to reform themselves united to fight against traitors of an ancient empire as a pledge of loyalty. Although neither side was a good person, good and bad are relative, and in this comparison, the former clearly stood on the moral high ground.
What was supposed to be a widely anticipated event spiraled out of control due to the interference of two Protoss individuals. Mishira perished, the Darkin army was wiped out, and Runeterra was nearly destroyed by Zoranny. It was a war with no victors.
"As Mihira's daughter and Kyle's sister, Morgana, what do you think about this?" the Wild Hunt asked.
"The justice they uphold is so heartless. I can't control it, and I don't want to," Morgana said, shaking her head with a touch of melancholy.
It seems that because the two sisters were taken away by their father at birth, their mother, busy with upholding justice, never looked for them and never fulfilled her duty of raising them. Morgana did not show any outward emotional reaction to the news of her nominal mother's death in battle; in fact, her reaction was not as strong as when she saw Kyle's half-sword, after all, her twin sister had been with her throughout her childhood.
Wild Hunt also specifically emphasized that Mishira was swallowed by Zoranny, while Kai'Sa spared Kayle's life, making it a non-stick pan to avoid giving Morgana a bad impression.
"Okay, since you don't mind, then don't get involved when I settle accounts with Kyle."
"Wait! What exactly do you want?"
Wild Hunt's words disrupted Morgana's mind; she couldn't just stand by and do nothing.
“Literally, Kyle’s actions have displeased me, and that birdman must pay for it,” Wild Hunt said.
"A desire for revenge is a root of trouble; it will lead you astray."
Morgana wanted to say something, but Wild Hunt cut her off.
"Don't lecture me, Morgana. I don't need your advice. I know exactly what I want. If you don't want anything to happen to your sister, then you should atone for her sins."
Chapter 528 Giving Up Resistance
The biggest concession the Wild Hunt could accept was for the sister to repay her debts, but according to Morgana's understanding, the sisters' relationship wasn't that good; on the contrary, it was quite strained.
Sure enough, Morgana was enraged after hearing him say that.
"You came to me to punish someone, so you should bear this pain yourself! Instead of making me pay for it!" she hissed, opening her palms and binding Wild Hunt with chains burning with dark flames.
The flames flashed with a ghostly purple light, and Wild Hunt could not break free, nor did he bother to: "So you sisters are nothing but a den of snakes and rats."
“Nonsense! I’m not punishing you for Kyle’s sake, this is punishment for your disrespect.”
Morgana's magic causes pain to the bound; all the shame, pain, and loneliness inflicted on others by the target will backfire on the target, turning into a terrible weight that torments the soul, allowing the flames of shadow to lick the flesh.
However, this had no effect on the Wild Hunt; only he himself could feel the pain. Although the Wild Hunt couldn't break free of his restraints, he still had Syndra.
The witch did not stand idly by. With a wave of her hand, she released an invisible shock that sent Morgana flying, and the chains binding the Wild Hunt were also released.
"When did it become your place to discipline them?" Syndra floated in front of the Wild Hunt, whether to protect her master or her food, it was unclear.
Wild Hunt felt that none of these were quite right. Her most likely mindset was that she could beat Wild Hunt however she wanted, but no one else could touch her punching bag.
"You're such a good baby. Go, go and beat her until she submits."
"Shut up, or I'll beat you up too!"
Wild Hunt looked up to admire the view under her skirt, and while praising her, he didn't forget to take the opportunity to annoy Syndra. The greasy nickname made her neck stiffen, and she couldn't help but look down and glare at him through the gap between her legs.
The sound of chains being dragged echoed through the cave. Morgana stood up, wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth, and stared at Syndra with disbelief.
"With such powerful magic, you must not be an unknown person."
"Sorry, I'm not from Demacia. You should go out and see the world."
Syndra spread her arms, and several dark orbs appeared around her, the resulting gravity causing the surrounding books to rustle and the black feathers scattered on the ground to flutter.
The sphere swallowed the already faint light in the cave like a black hole. Even Morgana on the other side felt her soul being pulled away. The gloomy energy entangled her, making her feel a sense of hatred and despair for no reason.
Without a doubt, if the fighting continues here, her secluded place will be destroyed. Mei ne ne Mei ne Lin Kong ni Lin Zai Zai Mei ne...
"This place is too crowded. Let's find a better place for us to show our skills. If you insist on challenging me, then come along."
As soon as she finished speaking, Morgana's long dress burst into flames of shadow, and she vanished with the flames, leaving only a ball of fire leading to an unknown destination.
Syndra hesitated for a moment, but after realizing that the flames were almost identical to Evelynn's Shadow Flame, she immediately leaped into the sea of fire, letting it burn her entire body.
A moment later, Syndra found herself still in a cave.
However, unlike the previous ones, this cave was larger and more spacious, and the light from the amethyst gave the ground a dark purple hue. The cave was surrounded by statues of various shapes and sizes, some pleading for mercy in a posture of torture, and others in a repentant pose, which looked quite eerie.
"Welcome to the Shadowlands. This is my execution ground, and you will receive my punishment here." Morgana's raised hands were engulfed in shadow flames.
She doesn't just console those who have gone astray and repent; she also teaches those who are unrepentant and dishonest a lesson that will never be forgotten.
As the sister of the Angel of Judgment, Morgana will naturally also conduct judgments. The biggest difference between her and Kayle is that no matter how serious the crime, she will not be mercilessly executed.
She believes in punishing those who deserve it, but every sinner should have the opportunity to reform, although the punishment may be extremely painful, so painful that it completely changes a person inside and out.
"The Shadowlands? That demon has a palace here too, huh?" Syndra finally knew where Evelynn had been hiding when she was invisible. After looking around, she focused her gaze on Morgana and narrowed her eyes slightly: "No one has the right to punish me."
"Then let's give it a try!"
Morgana suddenly reached out and threw out a ball of Shadowflame, while Syndra flicked her wrist and threw out a Dark Orb. The two collided and unleashed a terrible impact, instantly shattering some statues. The aftershocks of the explosion caused many purple crystal clusters to grow out of thin air in the cave.
The two then exchanged blows several more times, with the same result each time. Seeing that she couldn't gain an advantage through direct attacks, Morgana threw her black flames into the sky, turning them into a rain of fire that ignited the entire arena.
Syndra had nowhere to hide and used a barrier to block the rain of fire. But the black flames that landed still licked at her angle, bringing unimaginable pain, and the cave above her head restricted her height, preventing her from flying high.
She simply cleaved the earth, tearing a deep abyss out of thin air amidst the sea of fire. Unexpectedly, Morgana, using the cover of the black flames, suddenly summoned chains around her and bound her.
Chains bound Syndra tightly, dragging her down with unimaginable weight. She was someone who didn't want to suffer any loss, and when things got heated in the game, she'd suddenly erupt in a small rage.
The immense magical power broke free of the chains and wrested control from Morgana, turning its power against their owner. Morgana erected an anti-magic barrier, but it couldn't withstand it all, and Morgana was met with the same response.
Now she is bound by chains, and the pain in her magic is backfiring on her, causing her to let out a shrill scream.
Suddenly, magnificent purple wings burst forth from behind her shoulders, and her eyes were engulfed in light. But just as she was about to break free of her restraints, she gave up resisting, allowing the chains to bind her tightly.
"Why not use your wings?"
"I have sworn to relinquish these wings and resolved to walk on the earth on my own two feet!"
"Good! You have guts!" Syndra threw the half-sword in front of Morgana again and commanded, "Take it, cut the chains, and fight me."
"No... I will not abandon my humanity in order to regain this power."
Syndra lifted her into the air, her eyes radiating dark energy: "If that's the case, what are you still struggling for?"
Her aggressive approach eventually forced Morgana to give up her futile resistance. The Wild Hunt stepped forward and ripped off her veil, revealing a pale face streaked with black tears and tightly pressed deep purple lips.
"Now, let's have a calm and rational discussion. Morgana, I can change your current situation of being constrained. Would you like to hear it?"
Chapter 529 The Altered History
Morgana was no match for Syndra and gave up after a struggle.
"Kill me or torture me, it's up to you." She steeled her resolve and proudly raised her head.
"Legend has it that the Veiled Maiden is the mother of all the mages in Demacia, and I believe this is not unfounded. Morgana, you have always wanted to choose a wise ruler to change the situation of your children in Demacia, haven't you? Unfortunately, the current king does not have that awareness, and you are worried that your return will attract Kayle, whose justice can turn Demacia upside down."
As Wild Hunt spoke, he circled behind Morgana and placed a hand on the base of her magnificent wings.
The wings felt smooth to the touch, yet were also very hard. Morgana regarded these symbols bestowed upon her by her mother as a curse, wanting to sever them but unable to find a weapon sharp enough.
This was not the Wild Hunt's focus. His hand moved slightly upwards along the base of the wing, landing on Morgana's shoulder in a corner where Syndra couldn't see it.
Unlike her sister, who was clad in full armor, the younger sister wore a backless gown, allowing the Wild Hunt's hands to freely caress her smooth, cool back and feel the rise and fall of each vertebra.
"Heh, you know quite a lot." Morgana frowned at the rude gesture, clearly displeased, but dared not complain because of Syndra's presence. Besides, it was just putting her arm around his shoulder, not really that much of a breach of etiquette.
"Did I say something wrong?" Wild Hunt chuckled lightly, finding the feeling of inner resistance coupled with physical indifference quite subtle.
"No."
“Alright.” He continued, “In that case, why not join forces with me? As long as you help me subdue Kayle, you can freely intervene in Demacia and put an end to this escalating conflict.”
Morgana was lost in thought, momentarily ignoring the increasingly forceful hand behind her. She felt compassion for those who had been treated unfairly, but was it too inhuman to betray her own sister to save them?
Although she had long since broken ties with her sister, Kyle's actions weren't a serious mistake; they were simply a matter of differing ideologies. Helping outsiders against Kyle wasn't considered sacrificing family for the greater good, and therefore lacked legitimacy.
“Demacia is not something I can control,” she said.
