[Haha, Mr. Xun has a keen eye. It is indeed as you said. It was Yin Ji who took the initiative to find her confidant. The reason I said this just now was that I really wanted to help Yin Ji save some dignity in front of you.]

[Hahaha, I am a little ungrateful. Sigh, I don’t know how Lady Yinji will tell me? ]

[Before leaving, Yin Ji once asserted to you that it was simply a fantasy for you to want to change history and preserve Changping without the guidance of an expert.]

[It has only been five or six years since the Battle of Changping broke out. It would be better to rush to Changping City to store more food or dig a tunnel.]

[Oh? Did that Yin Ji really say that? ]

[Of course, how can I lie to you? ]

[Oh, that's not what she said back then. The reason I came to Zhao was to go to Changping to do some work with the intention of storing up grain and opening up new roads.]

[But when we were about to leave, she persuaded me to stop, saying that to solve specific problems, we need to consider things from a macro perspective, not just from our own perspective, and that we need to do things that benefit the public, otherwise it would be too selfish.]

[I was young at the time, and I really believed her lies, and came to stir up trouble in Handan. Over the years, I have doubted what this bastard said, but I was fooled by her every time. Now that I think about it, I was really stupid. ]

After listening to Xun Kuang's complaints, Shen Yuelan exclaimed in her heart that she had been cheated again. This bastard Yin Ji actually left her with such a mess. It was true that one could only judge a person by his appearance.

However, Shen Yuelan did not lose her temper this time. If she were to follow her previous temper, she would have called and questioned Gan Yuelong, but that would definitely make it difficult for Gan Yuelong, and the other person might not necessarily be on her side.

As the saying goes, if a son is not well taught, it is the fault of his father. Shen Yuelan blamed Gan Yuelong for this and planned to find an opportunity to report it to Hua Liluo or Si Ziqin to vent her hatred.

Gan Yuelong, who was signing documents in the Franc's Lair, suddenly sneezed. With her experience, she immediately knew who she had a feud with again.

[Tsk, how can I offend others just by staying at home? ]

Chapter 206: The Boomerang of History

[Uh, okay, I knew this guy would do no good, but it's not too late to join in now, why don't you just move and go to Changping. ]

[Alas, my hair has turned white from black in the morning. I am already this old. Although I am not completely powerless, wielding a sword or a gun is not something I am good at.]

[I am originally from Zhao. If possible, I would like to rescue Shaolan by revitalizing Zhao. After all, it would be a pity if years of hard work were to go to waste.]

[However, my friend is right. Changping, no matter what, I must go there. But before that, I have to go to Qin State first to see what is going on and why this tiny country on the western border has grown to what it is today.]

Shen Yuelan expressed her support for Xunzi's idea of going to Qin State for research, because in the original historical context, Xunzi should have gone to Qin State as early as last year, and Yin Ji's existence did cause some deviations.

Just as Shen Yuelan was chatting with Xunzi, a teenager knocked on the door and walked in. Although Xunzi did not introduce him, Shen Yuelan could tell at a glance that this guy was extraordinary. Considering Xunzi's interpersonal relationships, this person must be Han Fei without a doubt.

However, Han Fei was still young at that time and had not yet formed any systematic legal thoughts. He was currently studying with Xunzi the "External Kingship Theory" which was different from mainstream Confucianism. His ideological transformation probably occurred after Xunzi entered Qin.

Han Fei was still quite immature psychologically at this time. He would blush for a long time even when looking at Shen Yuelan. He was a complete virgin. Shen Yuelan naturally had no interest in this little brat, but she underestimated his own lethality.

The beauty of Bai Yueguang is irresistible to any man, especially when this Bai Yueguang seems to be on par with his master. The impact on Han Fei's young mind is extremely great.

Shen Yuelan naturally didn't have the time to pay attention to little Han Fei's psychological activities. Even if she noticed it, she would probably ignore it. She had no interest in men. She had more important issues to complain about now.

Since Xunzi had accepted Han Feizi, Li Si should have been by Xunzi's side. Wasn't that guy Han Feizi's senior brother? Where was he?

Wait, where did Xun Kuang go after he was slandered? Oh, right, this guy should have gone to Chu State. At this moment, he should be serving as the magistrate of Lanling County under the tutelage of Chunshen Jun Huang Xie. Huh, did history change here?

Hiss, what should I do? Should I go to Chu and airlift Li Si here? But if I forcefully revise history like this, I'm afraid it will cause resentment from Xun Kuang. Ah, am I the culprit?

Just when Shen Yuelan didn't know what to do, Du Juan and Shao Tang, who had just separated from the crowd, suddenly came back. It was not surprising that they came back so quickly.

After all, with the existence of Du Juan, a Ghost Emperor, the two little ones could not be lost. But what puzzled Shen Yuelan was that they also brought back an unconscious beggar.

Shen Yuelan lowered her head and studied the man for a long time, and was suddenly surprised to find that the man was Li Si, whom she had planned to airlift here. This guy actually came here by himself.

Haha, this is really a case of searching for something in vain, but finally finding it without any effort. Although I don’t know how this guy got here, this is a good excuse to give it to Xunzi. It’s really God’s help.

[Mr. Xun, I heard that you have studied various schools of thought. I wonder if you can see the difference between this person? ]

[Hahaha, Mr. Shen has superb medical skills and a prominent status. I'm afraid he already knew this person's background. Why would he embarrass me here? Just tell me what the relationship is between this person and me.]

When Shen Yuelan saw Xunzi's behavior and saw Han Fei's look of anticipation, she realized that Gan Yuelong had used this trick on her before. Tsk, how boring.

[Alas, it seems that my tricks have long been outdated. Since Mr. Xun already knows what I am going to keep secret, he should also know the fate between the two of you. ]

Upon hearing this, Xunzi was very clear about what was going on. He thought it was all his own fault for his reckless behavior. He sighed, kicked Li Si on the ground unwillingly, and then waved his hand to order people to carry him away for treatment.

Although Shen Yuelan would not lie to him, he still had to go through the necessary procedures. After she woke up, he would always test her before he could accept her as his disciple.

Although Xun Kuang tried to struggle and wanted to quietly resist the so-called fate by rejecting Li Si, Shen Yuelan's words were like a golden law, which made him breathless.

During the examination, although he made things difficult for Li Si many times, he was always able to be easily solved by Li Si, so that in the end, although he was reluctant, he had to accept Li Si.

The failure of this rebellion caused a serious shake in Xunzi's heart. If he couldn't even accept a disciple, how difficult would it be for him to save his wife?

[Alas, Qin? It's time to go take a look. ]

Just when Xunzi was feeling sad, Shen Yuelan and others found a very interesting person, or a very important historical figure, on the street of Handan City.

This man's name was Ying Yiren. He was the son of Prince An Guojun of Qin and the grandson of King Zhao of Qin. His biological mother, Xia Ji, was not favored by Prince An Guojun, and he himself was the middle child, so he was treated coldly.

When Qin and Zhao were at war, he was sent to Zhao as a hostage. His situation was very dangerous, not to mention his life, which was very difficult. When Shen Yuelan first met him, this guy was not much better looking than Li Si, who was dressed as a beggar.

Shen Yuelan did not go to join in the fun with him, but only asked Li Si to help him occasionally to prevent Ying Yiren from being affected by the butterfly effect created by Yin Ji.

However, this kind of life did not last long, because Ying Yiren soon met his benefactor, who was none other than Lu Buwei, who was called "Zhongfu" by the First Emperor.

Lu Buwei had only recently arrived in Handan to do business. Not long after arriving here, he met Ying Yiren, the prince of Qin who was a hostage of Zhao.

When they first met, he immediately recognized that Ying Yiren was a rare commodity worth investing in, so he decided to use money to help Ying Yiren gain the qualification to inherit the throne.

It has to be said that Lu Buwei's imagination was different from others. He actually dared to look at Ying Yiren from a businessman's perspective. His mistake happened in the Warring States Period. If it had been pushed back a few hundred years, he would have been punished with the death of his entire clan for such an idea.

For this reason, Lü Buwei went home to discuss the matter with his father. The history books recorded this period of history as follows:

Lü Buwei first asked his father, how many times can the profit of farming be? The answer was ten times; then he asked how many times can the profit of pearls and jade be? The answer was a hundred times; finally he asked how many times can the profit of establishing a country be? The answer was countless.

Lu Buwei therefore concluded that working hard on the fields now would not necessarily ensure one's adequate food and clothing, but the benefits gained from helping a monarch ascend the throne could be passed on to future generations, and this kind of good deed with great profits was worth doing.

Therefore, Ying Yiren's life has suddenly become better in recent times. As the saying goes, when the stomach is full, the mind is drawn to sex. Shen Yuelan sees that Ying Yiren's material life is guaranteed, so is it time for Zhao Ji to appear next?

Chapter 207: Mother's Status through Son

Shen Yuelan had no intention of inheriting Prime Minister Cao's hobbies or stealing someone else's love, but she wanted to collect stamps of all the famous women in history. This was her usual nature.

Among many outstanding women, Zhao Ji belonged to the group that relied on her son to gain status. She herself had no achievements to speak of, and it was even difficult to call her a positive character.

But she still left a significant mark in history because of her love affairs with several men, including Ying Yiren, Lu Buwei, and Lao Ai.

Although this [heavy ink and heavy colors] is definitely not a good thing, "Records of the Grand Historian" records that she was very good at dancing and was extremely promiscuous. However, she did not have the skills of the Queen Dowager Xuan, and could not expand the territory of the Qin State through love affairs, so her reputation was very bad.

As for what this girl looks like, Feng Menglong said in "Records of the Warring States Period" that she had hair as white as cicadas, eyebrows as pale as spring mountains, red lips as red as a cherry, and white teeth arranged in two rows of white jade.

With a slight smile, she seems Baosi trying to please King You; with slow movements of her golden lotus, she resembles Xi Shi who is able to charm Lord Wu. Her charming face has so many different looks that it is difficult to paint her alluringly.

The whole text is full of descriptions of her beauty, but when making analogies, no good examples are used. King You of Zhou and Bao Si, and King Wu and Xi Shi are all stories of women causing trouble.

From this we can see that this person's historical image is not much better than that of Daji and Baosi.

As for whether this guy's beauty is really as mysterious as described in the novel, that is not certain. Shen Yuelan squatted nearby out of curiosity, intending to see what was going on.

It is said that Zhao Ji was the daughter of a wealthy family. Later, she married the businessman Lu Buwei as a concubine. Shen Yuelan didn't understand why her family was so wealthy, and why she could become a concubine of lowly status when she was from a wealthy family. Maybe she was born to a maid.

The process of her meeting with Ying Yiren was also rather cliché. Ying Yiren went to Lu Buwei's house to attend a banquet, and then fell in love with this lowly dancer. Since Lu Buwei planned to make a [political investment] in Ying Yiren, he naturally would not care about a woman.

So Zhao Ji was presented to Ying Yiren. Not long after, Zhao Ji gave birth to a son for Ying Yiren, who later became the First Emperor Ying Zheng. With this achievement, Zhao Ji successfully ascended to the throne and was made his wife by Ying Yiren.

As to whether Lü Buwei is Ying Zheng's father, the records in "Records of Qin Shi Huang" and "Biography of Lü Buwei" are completely different.

The "Chronicle of the First Emperor of Qin" says, "The First Emperor of Qin was the son of King Zhuangxiang of Qin. King Zhuangxiang was a hostage of Qin in Zhao. He saw the concubine of Lü Buwei and was pleased with her and took her as his wife. She gave birth to the First Emperor."

However, the Biography of Lü Buwei states that [Lü Buwei took the most beautiful and good dancers from Handan to live with him, knowing that she was pregnant. Zichu went to drink with Buwei, saw her and was attracted by her, so he stood up to toast her and invited her. Lü Buwei was angry, thinking that he had ruined his family for Zichu, so he wanted to catch a surprise, so he offered his concubine to him. The concubine hid her pregnancy, and when the due date came, she gave birth to Zizheng. Zichu then made the concubine his wife.]

Compared with the rather affirmative tone in "The Records of the First Emperor of Qin", the content in "The Biography of Lü Buwei" is somewhat nonsensical.

The problem is that both "The Records of Qin Shi Huang" and "The Biography of Lü Buwei" are chapters in "Records of the Grand Historian", which means that these two completely different statements were written by Sima Qian, the Grand Historian.

As we all know, the historians in ancient China were like the stubborn stones in the toilet, smelly and hard. It was impossible for them to tell lies. This means that Sima Qian could not actually say whether this story was true or not.

Therefore, "The Records of Qin Shi Huang" should have adopted the official statement in Qin history books, while "The Biography of Lü Buwei" may have used records from other countries.

Although Shen Yuelan also wanted to investigate the matter, she was stopped by colleagues from the Time Management Bureau on the way to Ying Yiren's mansion and was given a small warning.

Just as Shen Yuelan had taught Shaotang before, at certain special historical junctures, even losing a hair would be a sin. Hua Liluo didn't dare let Shen Yuelan, a troublemaker, get close to here.

Therefore, Shen Yuelan had to return empty-handed and honestly went back to Xunzi's Thatched Cottage to help him prepare for entering Qin.

[Speaking of which, Mr. Xun is the first Confucian scholar in hundreds of years who intends to enter Qin. I am afraid that he will be isolated and suppressed by other Confucian scholars in the future.]

[Humph, my teachings are inconsistent with mainstream Confucianism, and this has been going on for a long time. Suppression and isolation are commonplace. Why would I care if they scold me a few more times?]

[Alas, in the final analysis, it is just the gossip of a group of people who have no self-reflection ability. What is there to care about? ]

It has to be said that Xunzi had a very thorough understanding of the current situation of Confucianism. In fact, it is hard to say whether the mainstream thought in Confucianism after the Han Dynasty was Xunzi's doctrine or traditional Confucianism.

Because Xunzi had more than just Li Si and Han Fei, two Legalist disciples. In addition to them, Xunzi had four other disciples who were both Confucian and Legalist. Compared with Han and Li who became famous earlier, these four of them were mainly active in the Han Dynasty.

The first one is Zhang Cang, Marquis of Beiping. When Liu Bang led his troops through Yangwu, he clung to the Han Dynasty. After the establishment of the Western Han Dynasty, Zhang Cang successively served as Prime Minister of Dai, Prime Minister of Zhao, and Chief Censor.

Later, because of his contribution in assisting Zhou Bo in establishing Liu Heng as emperor, he was promoted to the position of prime minister. It is said that during his reign, he restored most of the systems of the Qin Dynasty. The reason why the Han Dynasty was able to form the so-called Han inherited the Qin system, Zhang Cang's role cannot be ignored.

The second is [Taizhong Daifu] Lu Jia, who was also an important participant in the establishment of the Han Dynasty. It was said that [Lu Jia's learning probably came from Xunzi]. His greatest achievement was his diplomatic mission to Nanyue. With just his mouth, he made Nanyue submit to the Han Dynasty.

Lu Jia once proposed to Liu Bang the ruling strategy of "conquering the enemy and defending the country with the will, and using both civil and military power", advocating Confucianism, and at the same time supplemented it with Huang-Lao's "ruling by inaction". Under Liu Bang's order, he summarized the lessons of the demise of the Qin Dynasty and combined Confucianism's benevolence and righteousness with Taoism's teaching of inaction, which had a certain influence on the Huang-Lao politics in the early Han Dynasty.

The third is [Da Mao Gong] Mao Heng. This person is not very famous. His greatest achievement was that he preserved many ancient books including "Yushi Chunqiu", "Xunzi" and "The Book of Songs" when Qin Shihuang burned books and buried scholars. He also annotated "The Book of Songs". The version of "The Book of Songs" circulated in later generations was derived from Mao Shi.

The last one is called Fuqiubo. There is no biography of this person in the official history. The records in the classics are extremely fragmentary. It is difficult to form a complete life story of Fuqiubo even after searching through all the books. At present, we only know that he was an important figure in the process of Confucianism's transformation from old Confucianism to new Confucianism during the Qin and Han dynasties.

These four people were mainly active in the early Han Dynasty, which was the period when Huang-Lao school of thought was popular. This was also the most depressed period of Confucianism. During this period, mainstream Confucianism was not taken seriously by the rulers of the Han Dynasty.

However, the Confucianism of Xunzi inherited by these four people has been active on the political stage of the Han Dynasty because of its inclusive and flexible guiding ideology, and was even absorbed and referenced by Dong Zhongshu's new Confucianism.

Of course, Xunzi had far more than six disciples in his life, but only these six became famous and recorded in history. Don't think that this proportion is small. Any one of these people would have become an academic giant who could influence national policies in later generations.

As a teacher, being able to teach a county governor is already quite impressive, let alone these six great minds at the level of the Chinese Academy of Sciences?

Xunzi's outstanding performance made Shen Yuelan start to consider whether she should stay with Xunzi for a while and learn something from him, but this idea was quickly rejected by Xunzi himself.

[No, no, how can I be your teacher? You have done me and my wife a great favor, and I will never be able to repay you in this lifetime. If you don't understand something, just ask me directly. I will never refuse.]

Chapter 208: Xunzi Enters Qin

Although Xun Kuang said so, Shen Yuelan didn't really dare to ask him. If there were people who had no ability to think independently, Shen Yuelan thought that she was one of them.

The great truths she spoke of were nothing more than the spiritual wealth left by the sages of past generations, rather than her own thoughts. In this regard, Shen Yuelan was very self-aware.

Before Xun Kuang left, Shen Yuelan wrote him a letter of introduction. The recipient was Ying Hou Fan Sui. Although the relationship between the two was limited to a meal, it was enough for Xun Kuang to knock on the door of Fan's mansion.

Shen Yuelan herself had no plans to accompany him to Qin. After all, she had only been in Qin for a short time and didn't want to go back for a while. Staying in Handan for the time being and watching the birth of the First Emperor from afar was not as interesting as going to Qin to understand the people's sentiments.

Moreover, the story of Xunzi's visit to Qin has been recorded long ago. Xunzi described the relevant process in detail in his work "Xunzi. Strengthening the Country", and it is believed that the story is similar this time.

[Its location is strategic, its terrain is convenient, its mountains, forests, rivers and valleys are beautiful, and it has many natural resources, which is why it is so advantageous.]

【Looking at their customs, their people are simple, their music is not vulgar, their clothes are not fancy, they are very respectful of the officials and obey them, they are the people of ancient times.】

【As for the government offices in the capital, all the officials are respectful, frugal, respectful, loyal and honest, just like the officials in ancient times.】

【Look at the scholars and officials. They leave their homes and enter the government; they leave the government and return to their homes. They have no private affairs. They do not form cliques or cliques. They are all open and impartial. They are the scholars and officials of ancient times.】

【Looking at the imperial court, it is very leisurely, listening to and deciding all matters without delay, and being calm as if there is no governance. This is the court of ancient times. 】

【So the four generations have had victories, not because of luck, but because of fate, and this is what we have seen. 】

In short, in one sentence, the Qin State was great. No matter the people, officials, doctors, or court, the Qin State had the style of the rule of Yao and Shun. No wonder it could defeat the six states in Shandong and make them cry for their parents. The Qin State was awesome!

When Shen Yuelan first read this article, she thought that this guy was threatened by Fan Sui, so he praised it so exaggeratedly. But later she realized that it was not the case.

This guy only reveals his true colors at the end of the article, arguing that the Qin government was good in every way except for one small flaw, which was that it lacked Confucianism.

Xunzi felt that the Qin government was too rigid and would easily break, and that Confucianism was needed to neutralize it in order for the Qin State to survive for a long time. So he wanted to integrate Confucian thought into the Qin State's politics.

However, this proposal was not adopted by King Zhaoxiang of Qin. Although the old king admired Xunzi, he thought that his ideas were not suitable for Qin, so he did not use Xunzi. Seeing that he had no way to serve his country, Xunzi could only leave Qin with regret.

The outcome of Xunzi's trip to Qin was already determined, but the impact of this trip on Xunzi's thought was enormous. It directly led Xunzi to walk out of the broad road of Confucianism and onto the path of Legalism, and this path would be carried forward and expanded by his successors.

[Okay, my friend Shen, I will send you here. We will soon reach Changping. Although I am old, I still have Han Fei and Li Si with me. I will not let anything happen to me before I see Shao Lan.]

[By the way, if you don’t mind my thatched cottage, you can stay there first. ]

[Is it really possible? Wouldn't that be too much of a bother?]

[Of course not. This kind of house will collapse if no one lives in it for a long time. It would be great if you are willing to take care of it for me for a while.]

[In that case, Na Lan agreed without hesitation. The wind whistled and the Yi River was cold. The warrior left and never returned. Master Xun must come back safely.]

[Uh, Yishui? Isn’t that the territory of Yan State? And this word doesn’t seem to fit my taste. Is Mr. Shen bullying me for being uneducated?]

[Hahaha, who dares to say that Master Xun is uneducated? I just want to remind you that the old King of Qin and Fan Sui are narrow-minded people. Only if you respect them, you can have no worries about your life in Qin.]

[If you dare to argue with the scholars in the Qin court and offend those two, I'm afraid you will never come back.]
