If I had to ask, Lacier only had one question—

Why is there only one bed in the cabin?

6. Disappeared

There was only one bed in the house that the Archon lady prepared for Rachel and Charles.

Rachel discovered this ridiculous fact first, and soon, Charles also discovered it.

However, his first reaction was to turn around and leave the cabin, pick up the bronze lantern, and say to Lacier without turning his head:

"Please wait here. I will go and ask the Archon."

The speed of his actions left Lacie dumbfounded.

It was as if she had become some kind of monster, and Charles would not miss any opportunity to escape from her.

But how could Lacey let him get what he wanted?

Humph, want to escape?

Miss Witch used the warp spell.

Her figure disappeared in the wooden house, and then a light breeze blew past Charles, and Lacie appeared in the wind.

"I know you are in a hurry," she said to Charles, "but don't be in a hurry."

As she spoke, she raised her hand and pointed at the vast white fog outside the house.

"Even if you carry that lantern and are not afraid of the fog in the city, but you don't know the way, are you sure you can find the governor?"

"Besides, I don't think it's a good idea for us to split up now."

Laceier's expression turned serious.

She glanced at the bronze lantern in Charles's hand, then turned her head and looked into the depths of the fog.

As it should be, she couldn't see anything.

The thick fog covered everything, dyeing the world almost pure white, with only a few nearby buildings barely showing their shadowy outlines through the fog. Rachel and Charles stood in the fog, only one step away from the wooden house behind them, but it seemed that if they took a few more steps forward, the thick fog would swallow up the only foreign object besides them.

Then, there were only the two of them left in the whole world, and endless thick fog.

Rachel turned her head back, took a deep breath, looked at Charles' face, and said seriously:

"There's something wrong with the whole Lentiheim. You should have sensed it, whether it's the so-called mistress, the breeding room, the archon lady, or the white mist in front of us..."

"Everything feels weird, so for safety's sake, we'd better not separate unless necessary."

Perhaps he felt that what Rachel said made sense, so after a brief silence, Charles nodded:

"Then you come with me."

"?"

Lacey couldn't help but type a question mark.

She thought to herself, no, why are you always thinking about finding that Riddler Archon? Isn't my buddy cuter than her? What, sleeping in the same bed with my buddy is unfair to you, right?

Almost got it!

My buddy has no objection yet, you are not allowed to have one!

Of course, she would not say such words directly to Charles. She would only appeal to his emotions and reason with him.

"Do you remember the way to the church?" Rachel raised her eyebrows. "Aren't you afraid that we will get lost in the fog?"

Charles said nothing.

Apparently, as Rachel had guessed, Charles didn't even remember the way back to the church where the Archon was.

The fog was so thick that anyone walking through it would probably find it difficult to tell the direction, let alone find the way.

Should Charles give up now?

But what Lacie didn't expect was that Charles still seemed unwilling to give up.

"I really don't remember the way," he said, "but you should remember it. If that doesn't work, you should be able to use magic to find the way."

Upon hearing this, Lacier let out a displeased "tsk", crossed her arms, and glanced at Charles:

"I suggest you give up. I've tried it, and I don't know what's going on, but magic can't penetrate the fog. Although it doesn't affect my normal use of spells, it's obvious that this fog... or the mastermind who created this fog doesn't seem to be willing to let us find out the truth about the fog."

At this point, she finally couldn't help but ask suspiciously:

"But putting all that aside for now - Ciel, why do I feel like you've been trying to distance yourself from me?"

She had had this feeling ever since she came into contact with Charles as a witch rather than a priest, and now, Charles's behavior of trying every means to find Fuvenna to exchange houses made this feeling reach its peak.

Laceel looked at Charles with a sullen expression.

And Charles seemed to have made up his mind, and finally said:

"I think you and I should keep some distance."

"……what?"

"Because you are not married yet," he said, and then added the second half of the sentence with a somewhat stiff expression, "Of course, if you were married, we should keep our distance even more."

"Because I already have a lover. Of course, she is not with me for the time being...for the time being, but she will come back to me sooner or later. And if a young girl like you who is not married stays with someone like me and gets too close to me, it will inevitably cause criticism and even affect your reputation..."

"So, for my sake and your reputation, I think it's best for us to keep some distance."

The man's tone was humble and cautious, and he used a negotiating tone, even with a hint of timidity and embarrassment, as if he was afraid that his words would offend Lacie, but Lacie understood that this might be the bottom line he had drawn for her, which must not be violated, because she saw a glimmer of determination in the man's eyes.

This is really weird.

Lacie bit her lip subconsciously.

She suddenly felt that the Charles in front of her had changed from a pure little virgin to a divorced single father struggling to make ends meet with a child.

What about her?

If she puts herself in the current delicate relationship between the two of them, she becomes a bad woman boss who covets the widower's beauty and thus harasses him in the workplace.

"Father, you don't want your child to lack the care and love of a mother from an early age, right?"

Maybe she should say this weird line to Ciel.

In fact, Lacie was just feeling confused.

She thought to herself, what is going on? Some people have not even gotten married, or even been in a romantic relationship, yet they are already widows?

But her favorite thing to do is to tease young widows - of course, widowers are also acceptable.

The most interesting thing in this world is to bring down the noble, to frustrate the proud, and to make the devout become immoral.

Lacele felt that if she teased Charles now, he might give her an interesting expression.

But she chose not to do so in the end.

Finally, she just tilted her head noncommittally and said:

"So what should we do tonight?"

After a brief pause, she continued:

"Neither of us can remember the way back to the church, so it's impossible for us to ask Fuwenna for another house. In addition, with this thick fog, it's best for us not to separate. In this case, where else can you go except sleeping in this cabin with me for a night?"

As Lacie spoke, she almost couldn't help laughing.

She felt as if she was forcing good girls into prostitution.

Of course, she not only did not feel any guilt for doing this, but she was also very happy. She felt the joy of a good harvest and her whole body was filled with strength.

She even wanted to whisper to Charles in a teasing voice when he was forced to sleep in the same room with her:

"Brother, brother~ If your dead lover knew that we slept together tonight, she wouldn't be angry~"

She was looking forward to what expression Charles would show at that time.

Of course, she was more looking forward to what expression Charles would have now.

But what she didn't expect was that as soon as she asked the question, Charles showed a relieved expression.

He seemed to have already thought of the answer:

"You can sleep in your room. I am not too sleepy. And as you said, no one can predict what will happen in Lentiheim at night, so I plan to keep watch."

"...Ah?" Lacey was stunned. "Night watch?"

"Well," Charles nodded to her seriously, as if it was true, "so you go to sleep, and I'll go to keep watch."

After he finished speaking, without waiting for Lacie to react, he sat down cross-legged on the spot and placed the bronze lantern in front of him.

The lantern gave off a soft and peaceful orange light, diligently dispelling the fog around Charles, while Charles closed his eyes like an old monk in meditation and stood motionless in front of the door of the cabin.

"?"

Lacey typed another question mark.

She thought to herself, am I so unpopular with you? Why do you avoid me like the devil?

Did Ciel feel that sleeping with her was like being in prison?

So after he figured out a way to avoid sleeping in the same room with her, he felt like he had been pardoned.

Lacele even felt that Charles' back was shouting at her, "Goodbye, cage!"

She was very upset, but there was nothing she could do about Charles, probably because he had just sworn his loyalty to her.

——He is always loyal to the priest Rachel, but because of this he wants to draw a line between himself and the witch Rachel.

That's weird, isn't it?

So Lacier was unhappy with the hero in front of her, but she also felt that she didn't want to really hit him hard.

Driven by such contradictory and complex emotions, the witch lady finally just snorted coldly to scare the hero, and then she no longer paid attention to the hero, but turned around and went back to the wooden house.

Charles said he would keep watch, so of course Lacee would not continue to work for him.

Her kindness was not so cheap. Since Charles was unwilling to go back to the cabin and sleep on the floor, let him suffer the cold in the thick fog alone.

"But some people are really stupid," Lacey thought disdainfully after lying on the bed, "They don't even know how to beg me to help them light a fire. They are so stupid."

Of course, even if Charles begged her, she would never help him light a fire.

Some people deserve to drown in the thick fog on the streets of Lentiheim, holding their dead lovers in their arms!

Lacie thought about it, covered herself with the quilt, closed her eyes, and forced herself not to think about any messy things.

She still had to investigate Lentiheim tomorrow, so she had to go to sleep in order to retain enough energy.

So, under the protection of the brave man, the witch slowly fell into a deep sleep.

But not long after she fell asleep, Lacie heard someone calling her name in her sleep, very loudly.

She lost all desire to sleep and subconsciously opened her eyes, wanting to curse whoever was eating instant noodles without the seasoning packet and disturbing her sweet dream.

Then, she saw Ciel.

"Wake up!" the brave man said to her seriously, "The fog has disappeared!"
