Chapter 7 Murder

After playing tennis for about forty-five minutes, Cheng Yijiu went to eat lunch—he ordered confit duck legs, fried potatoes, bread, and, of course, a large bowl of creamy ice cream. After eating and drinking, he planned to take a walk in the garden and then take a nap—but his plan was cruelly dashed. Jonathan disappeared.

Jonathan was the husband of the young couple. As far as Cheng Yijiu could remember, he was the one who had actually strangled the unfortunate Ms. Danbill, while his wife had collaborated with him to create an alibi. And now, the husband had vanished—just when Inspector René wanted to find him for more questions, he vanished. He was nowhere to be found, and this time, Mrs. Jonathan was truly panicked.

Now, under the chairmanship of Inspector René, everyone gathered to summarize Jonathan's whereabouts today. Cheng Yijiu was useless here because he hadn't seen this man since early in the morning, but other guests had encountered him. The last person to see him was an old lady. The old lady was knitting on a chair in the garden. About an hour and a half later, around eleven o'clock, she saw Jonathan, greeted her, and then went up the mountain road.

No one has seen him since.

When he went up the mountain, no one accompanied him, and no one had returned from the mountain yet, so he was presumably missing alone. The servants had already gone up the mountain to search for him. Mary, the manager, was scratching her hair in annoyance—a single murder was enough to give her a headache, considering the hotel's reputation and brand... But there were also benefits—world-famous hotels always had their own legends. Celebrities staying there weren't uncommon, but the death of a celebrity staying there was even rarer, let alone such a puzzling and bizarre murder...

Ancient hotels always have many legends and many people have died there, which also constitutes their "tradition".

By four o'clock in the afternoon, the servants still hadn't found any trace of Mr. Jonathan—he wasn't on the mountain, and the broken iron gate over there wasn't open. Perhaps he had slipped and fallen into the sea? This was probably the only conclusion. Cheng Yijiu actually thought that this guy should be dead, but he probably wasn't so lucky as to fall into the sea. "Damn it! I should have been more alert. This isn't really a vacation!" He complained that he was too relaxed.

He should have known that werewolves could transform and attack during the day. However, Cheng Yijiu let his guard down and let himself get carried away, leading to this very situation—the werewolf attacked, but he still didn't know who it was, thus missing a great opportunity. Cheng Yijiu didn't exactly get himself slapped in the face; even the regret he felt lasted only a few minutes.

Soon, the guy regained his spirits. "There's still a chance! A werewolf that has drunk human blood will never calm down. There will be more attacks!" Cheng Yijiu took the initiative to step forward. "I used to be a hunter, so I want to find Mr. Jonathan's whereabouts. Don't worry, I'm sure I can protect myself."

Inspector René shook his head. "Mr. Jon, please don't do this. This behavior is too reckless and dangerous. If you must look for him, I think tomorrow is a good day." The little Frenchman sighed. "What a pity! I just figured out a few things. I didn't expect Mr. Jonathan to 'disappear.'" He stroked his beard. "How about this. After dinner tonight, I want everyone to be in the lobby on the first floor. I will solve this murder case."

Cheng Yijiu could only let it go until eight o'clock in the evening. After dinner, everyone sat down in the main living room on the first floor. Several police officers stood to one side, while Inspector René put down his small coffee cup and walked to the center. "Good evening, everyone. Now, I, René, will reveal the secret of this murder..." He rearranged the seats, and the elderly ladies sat on the periphery - Cheng Yijiu knew this was because they had already been completely ruled out of suspicion.

He sat closer to the inside, where René had arranged for him to sit closest to the exit—even though it was a semi-open space, the innermost seat closest to the exit. Perhaps it was because Inspector René thought Cheng Yijiu was like a leopard... and asked him to stop the murderer? Cheng Yijiu had his own thoughts on all this, and he roughly felt that this was like the crime in the sun from the Poirot detective stories.

The process went just as he'd predicted. Through a series of ingenious deductions, Ms. Danbill's death was delayed by approximately thirty to forty-five minutes, revealing that it was the Jonathans who actually killed her—this time, only Mrs. Jonathan denied it. Unfortunately, Inspector René, at least for now, couldn't produce any solid evidence...

Cheng Yijiu stood up and said, "Excellent reasoning, Mr. René, I think I have to take my leave for now. The murderer Jonathan is still on the island, and I want to find him. It's okay, I don't think he can do anything to me. But if you are worried, you can arrange for a police officer to go with me." Cheng Yijiu said. He was wearing a full set of hunting clothes at the moment, and a hunting knife was slung around his waist.

René looked troubled, but he finally asked a tall police officer to follow Cheng Yijiu.

"Hello, Officer Louis, right? I don't think Jonathan fell into the sea and drowned. In fact, I think he ran away first, leaving that woman as a scapegoat." Cheng Yijiu said briskly, and he walked directly towards the mountain path. "I think he wouldn't go up the mountain path at all. This is more likely." Cheng Yijiu pointed to a small path that was faintly formed in the moonlight, going down and around the cliff.

The path was steep and dangerous; if one wasn't careful, one could easily fall down into the sea, over ten meters below. Cheng Yijiu walked steadily along it, and when he reached the bottom of the cliff, he grabbed the officer to stop him from sliding further. Cheng Yijiu looked at the marks on the ground without saying a word—they were very clear claw marks. Then he looked up at the cliff and, not surprisingly, saw another claw mark.

"This isn't a small creature..." Cheng Yijiu muttered, erasing the footprints before the officer noticed. "They look like dog paw prints, but with heels. I'm starting to get curious about this werewolf's joints..." Judging from the height of the paw prints, this werewolf must have been at least three meters tall, so Cheng Yijiu immediately assumed it was an alpha wolf.

Cheng Yijiu thought about this and continued forward with the police officer. Not far after they went around, Officer Louis saw the scene and vomited while running. Cheng Yijiu watched it all as if it was nothing new. "It seems we have to tell Inspector René that one of his murderers has already suffered retribution, and he probably has to solve another case...a double murder."

Chapter 8 The Second Murder

He told the officer to quickly find Inspector René and call other police officers—like the medical examiner—while Cheng Yijiu stayed behind. "The werewolf has already gone back and blended into the crowd. There's no guarantee there'll be another attack today," he thought. The next step was to carefully examine the situation. The lantern was raised, and Cheng Yijiu stared at the bloody mess before him.

This was essentially the remains of a person. "Completely torn to pieces! This is truly brutal. Is anyone that violent?" Cheng Yijiu muttered. The remains were bitten into a mess. Cheng Yijiu looked at the situation here, piecing together a human figure in his mind. He glanced at the sea not far away and said, "If we don't consider throwing it into the sea, this thing is relatively intact. It probably only lost 20% of the flesh and no more than 20% of the bones, right?"

The internal organs don’t count.

Cheng Yijiu certainly found the head. Fortunately, it was still there, but the face was gone, torn off or gnawed off. Judging by the color of the hair, it was most likely the murderer, Mr. Jonathan. Before the inspector arrived, Cheng Yijiu hadn't planned to actually fight. He was now focused on the traces around him. To tear a person apart so violently would require a lot of movement, so Cheng Yijiu found the claw marks he had hoped for. As for the bloody footprints, this monster might have gone to sea and left no trace.

Those were claw marks left on the side of the cliff. They were high enough for Cheng Yijiu to touch with his hand while standing upright, but they were quite deep. On the hard stone, they were almost as deep as two of Cheng Yijiu's knuckles.

About an hour later, Cheng Yijiu looked up and saw the flicker of lanterns. The detectives and Inspector René had also arrived. They seemed to have been very careful, and after twenty minutes, they finally managed to walk the less than 100 meters and stand next to Cheng Yijiu. "We're lucky. At least we found one of the murderers. It seems he's been 'punished' in some sense. I think we may have to wait until daybreak to come with the forensic officer. I don't think we can collect the body at night."

Cheng Yijiu pointed, "Because he was completely torn into pieces, not chopped or cut, but completely torn into pieces, and I almost know what did it." This time it was the turn of the detectives and Inspector René to look at him carefully. Cheng Yijiu smiled, "Werewolf, look at the claw marks here." Cheng Yijiu pointed to the top of their heads, then stretched out his hand with his five fingers spread out, and gestured a sweeping motion.

"Inspector René, what's next is probably within my job scope. I'm sorry I'm not an official, I just track down these kinds of creatures all over the world and kill them. No, no, no, it's not for the Lord in heaven, they're simply excellent hunting targets." Cheng Yijiu's smile at this moment was like a man-eating tiger showing its white fangs, "It's just that werewolves are hiding among the crowd, and it's not easy to identify them."

The little Frenchman before him looked as if his faith had crumbled, but he quickly regained his perspective. The green light in his eyes practically glowed, his curiosity overflowing with curiosity. The other officers had scoffed at first, but when they saw the claw marks, they reacted similarly to Inspector René. While science was flourishing in this era, superstition still existed and was quite strong.

The legend of werewolves has existed in France for hundreds of years. Previously, they might have thought it was nonsense, but now that there's evidence, curiosity has naturally overcome everything. An officer immediately asked, "Are werewolves afraid of silver bullets?" Cheng Yijiu nodded, "Of course, silver is poison to werewolves. But now that weapons are much more powerful, you don't necessarily need silver bullets to kill a werewolf. Smashing their skulls with bullets is also fine."

"Besides," Cheng Yijiu continued, "this one is at least an Alpha Wolf. Ordinary silver bullets can't kill it unless they hit a vital spot. The damage will be higher than that of ordinary bullets, but that's all." Cheng Yijiu gestured, "Tonight is fine. We'll try to find the werewolf tomorrow. The reason I think it's at least an Alpha Wolf is because this unfortunate murderer was torn to pieces during the day."

They could only leave the body here first, and arrange for the handyman and the coroner to clean it up tomorrow. On the way back, the group of people were very curious and asked about werewolves and other things. Cheng Yijiu didn't mind chatting with them at all. "Becoming a werewolf after being bitten by a werewolf? It's not that easy. I only know that it takes a series of procedures for an ordinary person to be transformed into a werewolf. It's impossible to become a werewolf simply by being hurt by a werewolf."

"Of course, I've seen quite a few bizarre creatures, like America's Mothman—a giant, human-shaped moth. It's more than just a bug. And the man-eating lions of Africa—those guys are no ordinary lions either. They stalk the darkness, invisible to you. And of course, there are the killer elephants that come back from the dead, appearing and disappearing like smoke. All of these were once my prey—I told you, Inspector, I'm a hunter."

"I hope everyone won't show any abnormality, lest the werewolf, who has been appeased by the fact that a person has been killed, go crazy. It will be troublesome if it starts killing tonight - at least wait until daytime." Cheng Yijiu said, and the police officers were afraid and excited, but then they managed to control their emotions - Mrs. Jonathan has been detained, even if there is no evidence, she can at least be detained for a few days.

News of Mr. Jonathan's death remained relatively quiet, primarily because most people had already returned to their rooms, packing their belongings and preparing to leave the next day. The few who remained in the lobby didn't particularly care what might happen if the police officers left. After returning to the hotel, Cheng Yijiu showered and went to bed, the knife resting beside his pillow. He spent the night peacefully.

However, the next morning he was awakened by a knock on the door and found that Mrs. Jonathan was dead.

Mrs. Jonathan lay in bed in the room where she was imprisoned, her entire body as pale as the sheets. Inspector René walked into the room with Cheng Yijiu, his face very heavy. "There were officers guarding the door all night, so it wasn't opened. And this is on the third floor, and we didn't hear any cries for help all night. She was found dead this morning." Inspector René squeezed out a sentence, "There wasn't a drop of blood on her."

Cheng Yijiu looked at the pale and shriveled face of the woman. "Oh, damn it. Is there another vampire in this damn place? Werewolves are not that gentle."

Chapter 9 Werewolf Exposed

Both Cheng Yijiu and Inspector René looked unhappy. This sudden appearance of a "vampire" was a huge surprise to them. Cheng Yijiu bent down and looked at the two shrinking wounds on the woman's neck. He was speechless. He had never seen a vampire before. Did these vampires suck blood by biting the carotid artery?

In this case, would they have to maintain the prey's heartbeat, or use negative pressure to suck out the remaining blood? In short, it had nothing to do with elegance or anything like that. "A vampire?" Cheng Yijiu muttered, looking at the cross that served as a decoration in the room. It was certain that a cross would be of no use to a real vampire. "Damn, this is so hard to find."

But they still had to find the werewolves and vampires in the shortest time possible. "Are they afraid of sunlight?" René said, "They should be afraid of sunlight. They won't necessarily turn into ashes in the sunlight, but it's true that they will be miserable." Cheng Yijiu himself didn't seem to have seen a vampire, so he could only go along with this nonsense.

Has anyone on the island ever seen sunlight? It seems not. Almost everyone, as far as Cheng Yijiu can remember, has been out in the sun, and nothing seems unusual. Inspector René was deducing the basic characteristics of a werewolf based on what Cheng Yijiu had told him. Cheng Yijiu watched him take out a deck of cards and begin laying them out in the small living room.

Cheng Yijiu wasn't in a hurry. Even if these people were to leave, they would have to take the afternoon boat. They might have to wait for more police officers and forensic officers to collect the bodies before the afternoon boat could take the resort tourists away. René was thinking, and so was Cheng Yijiu.

"Who could be the werewolf?" he thought. "Why did it attack Jonathan? There were clearly several other people who were separated and not being noticed by others. Even with the werewolf's power, any less than three people would probably be killed instantly - unless I was one of them... Why did it only attack Jonathan? Is it because he went to the mountains?"

Cheng Yijiu could certainly conclude that this werewolf was rational and had a reason for attacking Jonathan, so the target was relatively simple—the cuckolded husband, Mr. Danbier. "If he was an alpha wolf, and his deceased wife was either human or werewolf, his daughter must have inherited the werewolf blood. With the full moon tonight, maybe he'll really lose control?"

The little guy hasn't revealed any problems yet. It's likely that his father is suppressing him. There's a high probability that he doesn't even know he's a werewolf—he's lost his memory of the transformation, which is common to low-level werewolves. Does that explain it? Cheng Yijiu even vaguely remembers that werewolves and vampires are supposed to be rivals?

Of course, this may also be misleading from the movie. In the ancient legends, the King of Vampires is the King of the Night, who can also control and command werewolves.

At this time, Inspector René also came in, his green eyes sparkling. "If I'm not mistaken, I think we've caught him." Cheng Yijiu nodded. "I guess we're on the same page. So, I'll use a silver needle to test it out. Even though Alpha Wolves aren't afraid of silver, when silver objects pierce his body, the reaction it causes is much stronger than that of an ordinary person."

It's like a needle piercing an ordinary person's body, which would only cause some bleeding and leave a needle hole. But if it pierced a werewolf - according to Cheng Yijiu's reasonable imagination and based on his previous fights with werewolves, there would definitely be redness, swelling and ulceration, which would be much more severe than the impact on an ordinary person.

A silver toothpick from the kitchen would do. Cheng Yijiu asked Inspector René and the police officers to prepare. One officer went to call Mr. Danbill and, as Cheng Yijiu passed by him in the garden, stabbed the silver toothpick into his wrist. As he and Mr. René had expected, the man took a step back, looking at the festering, bleeding wound on his wrist, the size of his little finger—this was not something a toothpick could cause.

"Found it." Cheng Yijiu's voice was emotionless, and the officers on the side also appeared with their pistols - half of them had silver bullets, and half did not. Of course, they were all using lever-action rifles. Mr. Danbier had a strange expression on his face. Cheng Yijiu looked a little relieved.

"I've always felt this place was quite dangerous, and now I understand." The man took a step back, and before everyone's eyes, his clothes were quickly torn apart by his enlarged body. Human transformation into werewolf was incredibly fast; in the blink of an eye, a 5'7" man swelled into a furry, three-meter-tall werewolf.

The first thing Cheng Yijiu noticed was the werewolf's curved hind legs. "It really has an extra joint," he muttered, and immediately drew his hunting knife. By then, the officers had already opened fire. The werewolf crossed its arms to protect its throat and nose, and blood splattered all over its body.

The officers only had time to fire the first shot, and then they completely lost track of the werewolf - he moved so fast that the officers holding the guns could not keep up with his movements and had no time to aim. If they fired randomly, the only possibility would be to hit their colleagues.

The werewolf leaped and attacked, and Cheng Yijiu followed his movements, waving his hunting knife to block his claws. "Run!" Cheng Yijiu only had time to say this. Then he and the werewolf fought fiercely. This werewolf was not as strong as a bear, but it was a giant wolf standing upright, so Cheng Yijiu estimated that its weight was probably around 300 kilograms.

After blocking a few times, Cheng Yijiu said, "Weaker than the last one!" He noticed this. Several officers had already fled, but some still tried to stay and attack the werewolf. He was in big trouble. Cheng Yijiu only had a hunting knife in his hand, so he couldn't fight the werewolf recklessly. So he dodged most of the werewolf's attacks, and the officer was grabbed by the werewolf.

The claws carved deep wounds into his body, nearly ripping him apart. By the time he fell to the ground, he was already dead. This werewolf's head looked more like a wolf-human hybrid than a giant wolf, with a less prominent mouth. Unlike the previous werewolves, this was why Cheng Yijiu was still able to fight him.

In terms of strength, Cheng Yijiu is not at a disadvantage, but he must be very careful not to be caught by claws because his defense is not good, and the defense of the werewolf's fur is actually just so-so. Cheng Yijiu's hunting knife can still break it and cause serious damage to his skin - the silver coating is still quite useful, not to mention that this hunting knife is enchanted.

Chapter 10 Killing

The fight lasted about a minute. Cheng Yijiu was unharmed, but the werewolf's forearm was cut and now festering. One officer died, and the others, including Inspector René, fled away. Cheng Yijiu couldn't even wrap his arms with clothes as protection, because those things couldn't stop the sharp claws at all.

Wrapping his arm would have been detrimental to his fighting. Now it was like two glass soldiers wielding iron rods, and if either of them was hit by the other's attack, they would be doomed. The fight gradually shifted to another location, and as a result, the servants and tourists on the dock also witnessed the battle—they had already been frightened by the volley of gunfire.

The werewolf's enormous figure was seen by them, and in return, it was met with screams and a very crisp thud to the ground. The werewolf had no time to attack others. He was also busy dealing with Cheng Yijiu's sharp hunting knife - this man was also unusually strong, and his speed could actually keep up with him. His fighting skills were also outstanding.

Cheng Yijiu had to be careful with his claws and mouth. He used a clever lifting and slapping technique to dissipate the force so that the werewolf's claws would miss their target. If the werewolf dared to bite, the knife would be waiting for him. Cheng Yijiu's hunting knife had now proven to have a very powerful magic-breaking power, and it didn't just rely on the silver plating to hurt the werewolf.

Once the enchanted blades, imbued with positive energy, cut through the werewolf's flesh, they would immediately cause a massive wound that would fester until the bones were visible. The werewolf's self-healing would also be very slow. After a few more hits, Cheng Yijiu could see that the werewolf was noticeably weakened.

This werewolf was weaker than the ones Cheng Yijiu had dealt with before. It seemed that the only thing he had to do now was not to capsize, and not let the werewolf escape. "This guy's fighting skills are pretty bad," Cheng Yijiu felt. Although the werewolf was weakened, its recovery ability and physical strength were still far stronger than those of an ordinary person. He was also trying hard to dodge the knife in Cheng Yijiu's hand, and his attention was focused on killing Cheng Yijiu. This werewolf was also unruly, and it was not yet time for him to lose his fighting spirit and try to escape.

Cheng Yijiu's fight wasn't perfect after all. The werewolf's claws had ripped three bloody grooves into his chest, nearly ripping him apart. Blood quickly soaked through the front of his clothes. The high-speed fight was incredibly draining, and Cheng Yijiu only had a hunting knife—bringing a broadsword was unrealistic and unrealistic, something he hadn't considered.

Every hunt has its flaws, and Cheng Yijiu is just a mortal.

He always hadn't thought things through, but fortunately, he hadn't made any irreparable mistakes so far. If possible, it would be necessary to have a hunting companion. However, Cheng Yijiu had never seen other "huts" and was not even sure if there were any hunters like him.

It was unlikely he'd brought a lion skin this time. Who would bring a large lion skin for a "vacation"? Smearing it with olive oil to pretend to be Hercules? Cheng Yijiu gave a wry smile. The same principle applied to the longsword. The cabin wouldn't let him bring a gun, which was causing him a lot of trouble.

The werewolf's fur was festering in several places, all of which were caused by Cheng Yijiu's scratches. He relied entirely on his reaction to use his claws to block the unavoidable attacks. Now several of the werewolf's claws have been broken, and most of the sharp nails have been cut off.

The two sides separated immediately. The officers watched the high-speed battle for about five minutes. Just as they recovered and saw the werewolf had disengaged from the fight, they immediately raised their guns and opened fire again. The werewolf wasn't afraid of these bullets at all. Even a silver bullet wouldn't be a problem unless it pierced his heart or shattered his skull. He quickly turned and fled, braving the bullets.

At that moment, screams rang out from below. Cheng Yijiu steadied himself and looked down. Sure enough, the little girl had lost control. The thirteen or fourteen-year-old girl had transformed into a two-meter-tall werewolf, slaughtering everyone. "Her hunting skills are poor. She hasn't killed anyone yet, only several with minor and serious injuries." Cheng Yijiu quickly rushed down and stopped the out-of-control werewolf from continuing its killing spree.

The werewolf's eyes were red, and it was devoid of any rationality. Its face looked more like a human, with a less prominent mouth and nose. "Ugly orc," Cheng Yijiu muttered. He found it easier to deal with the werewolf. This girl was more dangerous than her father because she was a completely mad and uncontrolled monster.

Of course, she's much easier to deal with than her father. Upon waking, she'll completely lose all her memories of her werewolf life. By the time she regains her memories, she'll have reached the level of a Gamma Wolf. A Beta Wolf is one who can control themselves after transforming. An Alpha Wolf is one who can fully control their transformation and maintain their sanity.

Although Cheng Yijiu's injuries had not healed, it did not affect his movements. He cut open the female wolf's front paw with one knife, split her palm between the middle finger and ring finger, and split the wrist bone all the way until he separated her radius and ulna to the elbow.

The enchanted blade sliced through the wolf's flesh like a hot knife through butter. The pain caused the wolf to pause, and then a long, painful howl. But Cheng Yijiu showed no mercy. He drew his blade and cut directly across the throat of the underage werewolf in front of him. "From the beginning, I was born a werewolf, and this was destined to be my fate," he thought.

The blood-spurting werewolf fell to its knees, its hands clutching its throat as a sound like the pumping of a bellows echoed. Cheng Yijiu, standing above, calmly observed the final blow as it pierced her heart. The werewolf gradually shrank, eventually returning to its original form as an underage girl. From the depths of the island, the howling of an angry and mournful wolf echoed. Cheng Yijiu didn't react; he simply reached out and closed the girl's eyes.

The mission wasn't complete yet, Cheng Yijiu realized. It seemed he still had to kill the werewolf. Inspector René said he would report the situation to his superiors. Cheng Yijiu figured that since there were werewolves, there must be a department dedicated to dealing with these dark creatures—France, as a major power, couldn't possibly not have such a department. And Cheng Yijiu had to kill the werewolf before they did.

Inspector René later found Cheng Yijiu again and said, "The body has disappeared."

"What body?" Cheng Yijiu was a little confused. "That guy hid his wife's body." Inspector René said. Ms. Danbill's body was gone, and there were claw marks everywhere in the room.

Chapter 11 Tracking

Okay, the werewolf Danbill took his wife's body, but why? Was it necessary? His werewolf daughter wasn't born to this wife, but to his deceased ex-wife. So why would he take the body of this non-blood-related wife? If she was pregnant, then maybe it would be useful - dark creatures can grow their strength by devouring blood relatives of the same bloodline.

Cheng Yijiu knew this all too well. Zombies, also beings of darkness, would first target their blood relatives, either parents or children, followed by siblings and even relatives up to five generations. Only then would they target their wives and ordinary people, who had given birth to their offspring. Werewolves and vampires were probably similar, prioritizing their ordinary relatives.

Cheng Yijiu turned back to the island, while the manager and servants were persuaded to leave due to the werewolf's presence. Only Cheng Yijiu remained on the island—he had insisted on staying—and two police officers, who lived in a sturdy hut on the dock. Cheng Yijiu, knife in hand, bandaged his own wounds and then went to look for the werewolf.

Tracking the werewolf was now a bit easier—the smell of blood and festering wounds, the natural scent of the beast, and finally... Cheng Yijiu was very surprised that he couldn't smell the corpse. "If I had a hound, I'd probably have managed to take care of this werewolf a long time ago." Cheng Yijiu was a combat hunter, not a trap hunter.

Therefore, he could only rely on his superior sense of smell to track. His previous punishment missions as man-eating tigers and sharks had also sharpened his sense of smell considerably. Cheng Yijiu began tracking from the corpse's resting place. It was at this moment that he noticed something unusual: the scent of Ms. Danbill's body had disappeared. Could it have been devoured by a werewolf? Cheng Yijiu followed the scent and the footprints on the ground—the werewolf's footprints were now clearly visible, with an extra joint, forming a heel.

Combined with his massive body and his instinctive tendency to swipe and grasp, he left behind numerous traces. This creature, no longer careful and cautious, was simply moving in werewolf form. Cheng Yijiu had previously estimated that he spent most of his time wandering in human form, transforming briefly into werewolf only to attack prey. Cheng Yijiu observed the claw marks, footprints, and hair hanging from branches, and knew exactly where the werewolf was heading.

He followed silently. Werewolves are much more cunning than wolves. What if they set an ambush in front, circled around, and attacked him from behind? This would be difficult to deal with. Cheng Yijiu landed lightly on the ground with the front of his foot. His movements were like those of a big cat, only the hunting knife in his right hand gleamed dimly, like a tiger's fang.

While tracking the werewolf Danbill, Cheng Yijiu couldn't help but think of Mrs. Jonathan, who had been drained of blood. "It certainly wasn't the work of a werewolf, so... who was the vampire? Why would they consume Mrs. Jonathan, who was under police guard, instead of just picking an ordinary tourist in the hotel?" This question puzzled Cheng Yijiu.

Vampires are much easier to hide than ordinary werewolves, but they still have a gap compared to alpha wolves - their fatal weakness is that they cannot see the sun. So who hasn't gone out to bask in the sun? After thinking about it, it seems that no one has not basked in the sun?

Cheng Yijiu paused as he pondered these questions. He had a strange premonition that a duel was about to unfold at this twilight hour. This was a meadow, with trees a little further away. Looking down, he could see a corner of the garden maze. The werewolf had just emerged from the trees and was slowly approaching him. "Have you come to your senses?" Cheng Yijiu stood there, gazing at the werewolf. The werewolf's eyes were calm, and though grief could still be seen, nothing else remained.

Werewolves can speak. Standing before Cheng Yijiu, Danbill looked as if he wanted to say something, but ultimately, nothing came out. Talking about his daughter? That was meaningless—Danbill seemed to understand this. His only responsibility was to fight the hunter to the death. Only if he won could he consider other things. Cheng Yijiu did the same—he stated without pretense that humans and werewolves could not coexist.

After a pause of a few seconds, the werewolf half crouched down and rushed forward with a howl. Cheng Yijiu also half-crouched down, and the knife in his right hand flashed, and he caught the werewolf's attack. Cheng Yijiu's strength was also extraordinary. He took the initiative to grab the werewolf's claws, and the werewolf grabbed his right hand to avoid being stabbed by the knife. The two sides began to wrestle - the werewolf tried to bite Cheng Yijiu, but he hit him on the chin with a headbutt, almost biting off half of his tongue.

Because of his attempt to bite, his arms weren't strong enough, and Cheng Yijiu used his momentum to suppress him, slicing the werewolf's wrist with his right knife. The werewolf then had to retreat, or else Cheng Yijiu could stab him in the chest and abdomen dozens of times in a matter of seconds. If he took all those stabs, the werewolf would have died. "Your fighting skills... how did you become an alpha wolf?" Cheng Yijiu couldn't help but ask.

The werewolf before him wasn't very good at fighting. How should I put it? He wasn't very good at utilizing his unique abilities. Perhaps he hadn't systematically learned combat techniques, having learned them all on his own. So, facing Cheng Yijiu's dagger technique, he seemed unprepared, using the wrong attack methods more than once, leaving him with several wounds. Now, this guy was retreating, panting with his tongue hanging out.

"Who the hell are you?!" The werewolf's voice was unclear. It was time to doubt Cheng Yijiu's true identity - ordinary people couldn't wrestle with a werewolf. Cheng Yijiu didn't bother to answer such nonsense. This time, he took the initiative to attack, but the werewolf bit his mouth and began to fight back - this guy sacrificed his left paw to restrain Cheng Yijiu's hunting knife, and used his right paw and mouth to attack, also using his height and weight.

This slightly miscalculated Cheng Yijiu. If a werewolf really didn't care, it would be difficult to kill it. Cheng Yijiu's left arm was injured, and his shoulder was bitten - he wouldn't turn into a werewolf because of this, but the wound was swollen and poisoned. Cheng Yijiu kicked the werewolf in the chest and forcibly pulled out the knife - his left claw was already corroded beyond recognition and should have been unable to restrain it.

Cheng Yijiu responded by using a knife to cut open the wound on his shoulder that was bitten by the werewolf. When the blood flowed out and touched the blade, it was smoking.

Chapter 12 Incident

Cheng Yijiu moved his injured arm, "It's a bit restricted." He muttered. The werewolf opposite was also cruel enough. He bit off the festering front paw from the middle of his forearm in one bite - this would prevent the festering from continuing, and the clean wound would heal faster.

It should be able to regenerate.

Cheng Yijiu took the initiative to attack. The werewolf's movements were getting faster and faster. Cheng Yijiu's body was inevitably cut by his claws. "His movements are starting to change. Is this guy learning to fight in battle?" Cheng Yijiu cut the werewolf's claws with a knife, which almost destroyed the werewolf's weapon.

He observed the werewolf's left arm. The flesh at the broken part was wriggling, the bleeding had stopped, and the wound was regenerating. The werewolf jumped up, revealing a flaw. Cheng Yijiu grabbed his calf and, enduring the pain in his arm, hung on it.

The werewolf brought people with him, so he miscalculated and failed to jump to the height he had originally planned, and fell directly. Cheng Yijiu also fell to the ground. He was prepared and completely ignored the pain of falling. He struggled to strangle the werewolf's neck with his injured arm and stabbed the werewolf in the back with a knife.

This werewolf was indeed not very strong. After being suppressed by Cheng Yijiu from behind, it completely lost its ability to resist. He then stabbed it several times and cut its throat. It fell to the ground and twitched - the werewolf's powerful healing ability was ineffective. Cheng Yijiu's enchanted hunting knife was indeed quite effective against these monsters.

Cheng Yijiu put more effort into it, using his hunting knife to sever the werewolf's bones and lop its head off its neck. Now, no matter how strong the werewolf's self-healing ability was, it was dead. "I'm lucky this time," Cheng Yijiu muttered. He felt good about successfully killing his prey.

This time the hunt was surprisingly easy. Cheng Yijiu hummed a little tune and began to look around for a door. But the door never appeared. "Forget it, maybe I can go back to the hotel to wash up?" Cheng Yijiu didn't care. He picked up the ugly wolf head and walked directly towards the hotel.

He placed the wolf head on the table in the hotel lobby and went upstairs to shower. He knew there might be something more to this matter the moment he opened the door and didn't return to the cabin. "Do you want me to hunt vampires?" He shook his head. "Whoever it is, they should have escaped by now."

After washing himself, he found a set of clean clothes to change into. When he returned to the hall, the wolf head hadn't changed at all; it was completely dead. "It didn't regenerate into a human form after death? That's a bit strange—I remember werewolves were supposed to regenerate into human form after death. I should have brought back a human head."

Cheng Yijiu felt something was amiss. "There must be something fishy going on here!" He began to seriously consider a question—what if Mr. Danbill wasn't a true Alpha Wolf? This guy, struggling to regain his human form, didn't seem quite like an Alpha Wolf. Perhaps his lackluster combat abilities proved otherwise?

So how did he stay sane? How could he control his transformation? Who was controlling him? Cheng Yijiu scratched his chin, lost in thought. Of course, there was also a strong possibility that the above was all nonsense. Danbil was just an alpha wolf who wasn't very good at fighting. After all, they had to hide in human society and probably had no experience in large-scale combat.

Perhaps the werewolves of this world simply don't revert to human form after death—then how did the little girl Danbill revert to human form after her death? In short, it was very confusing. Cheng Yijiu pondered for about ten minutes, but ultimately came to no conclusion. So he left the head on the table and went to sleep.

"Whether it's true or not, there shouldn't be any werewolves or vampires on this island." This was Cheng Yijiu's opinion. He closed the doors and windows, lay down on the bed and fell asleep - of course, the knife was still next to the pillow, and his sleep was the kind of intermittent alert sleep.
