Chapter 34 Authentic American Dinner
Dinner was a pizza delivery from a nearby restaurant, which came with a two-liter bottle of fat guy's happy water.
Given the variety of food available cheaply in the United States, it makes sense that there are so many obese people per capita.
It's safe to say that otaku exist all over the world, not just in the 2D sense. Only in the United States are there a large number of otaku who weigh hundreds of kilograms, can't get out of bed on their own, and even have difficulty walking.
But this has also indirectly revitalized industries such as gyms and boxing clubs. Especially those wealthy people have to spend some time every day exercising to maintain a good figure.
As for those who are crazy about fitness, whose goal is to build themselves up with muscular bodies and then desperately take steroids, they are creatures of another dimension.
Recalling the movie he had seen, where Thor ate himself into a fat man, Henry worried about the physical condition of Kryptonians and whether there was any way to prevent himself from becoming a fat man.
But when you're hungry and there's food in front of you, there's no reason not to eat. The memory of being so hungry at the Russian Research Institute that I wanted to dig up some dirt to eat is still vivid in my mind.
Anyone who has truly experienced hunger will be afraid of that feeling.
No wonder that in the six realms of reincarnation in Buddhism, hungry ghosts occupy one of the three evil realms, along with hell and animals.
But after taking a bite of the pizza, Henry felt a little regretful.
He is quite picky about food. Although he likes to eat delicious food, most of the time he just wants to eat whatever he wants.
In other words, for Henry, food can be divided into three categories: delicious, edible, and inedible.
Now we can add another category between what can be eaten and what cannot be eaten, that is, the category of "eating it will make you sad, not eating it will hurt your wallet."
As someone who doesn't waste food, I certainly wouldn't throw edible food into the trash or leave it out until it's past its expiration date. Doing so would be a waste of money, and it would also be unfair to the people who work so hard to provide the food.
Even if I have hundreds of thousands of dollars to invest, I can't just make things. Now I have no other income, I'm just sitting there eating up all my savings.
But some foods are just… no. Even though you won't get sick from eating them, you feel guilty about eating them.
Especially for a Kryptonian with a super sense of taste, if he wants to stop himself from tasting shit but has to eat it, he probably can only stuff it directly into his throat or even into his stomach to avoid it.
But this also makes sense, as carbonated drinks come in two-liter bottles. They're really meant for rinsing your mouth and washing your stomach!
This lesson convinced Henry that a kitchen was a must when renting a house. If he got tired of eating out, he could just cook for himself.
This is because there is no Google Maps function yet, otherwise I would have given this pizza restaurant a one-star bad review.
To forget the taste in his mouth, Henry picked up the yellow pages under the phone and began to look through them again, planning his tasks for tomorrow. Trying to distract himself.
Unfortunately, there are no customer reviews in the Yellow Pages, so I don't know which one is better. I simply don't compare similar stores and just find one that's close by.
Henry hypnotized himself that coming to a strange place in the dark should have some courage to try and make mistakes.
As long as you are not greedy and are careful, and exit in time before the situation causes huge losses, you will not get stuck in it.
The thing I fear least is that someone will overturn the table and intend to use violence.
We Kryptonians are getting angry and want to see who can kill whom.
Henry woke up bright and early in the morning and went outside to bask in the morning sun. The winter sun was always warm, making people want to chase it. It was the complete opposite of the summer sun, which they avoided at all costs.
Unfortunately, the United States is a long-established industrial nation, and Los Angeles is a metropolitan city, so the air quality is not very good. Even taking a deep breath is not without worrying about choking.
I got myself ready and headed out in the morning, first going to a nearby black dad's stand to buy a hot dog, shoveling plenty of mustard on it, and filling my stomach. I forgot the complimentary soda, which was like a bacterial culture tank.
After devouring his hot dog, Henry went to a bank and deposited all his earnings from the crabbing boat.
After all, carrying hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash around wouldn't be a big deal, and leaving it in a motel or the apartment I planned to rent later wouldn't be safe. If it got stolen, it would be a disaster. Better to just put it in the bank.
The reason why I didn’t open an account in Alaska was because Alaskan banks did not have many branches in the United States, making it inconvenient to use.
As for cashing checks directly in the U.S. with Alaskan banks, the fees involved are quite complex, with each bank having its own rules. It's essentially up to the bank; there's no universal fee or percentage.
Now that I'm in Los Angeles and planning to make it in Hollywood, I can't just accept cash payments or pay a bank check and have it cashed with exorbitant fees. So, opening a bank account is the best option.
Forget about the small banks. The American financial system has long been a mixed bag of good and bad banks, with no standard, due to the manipulation of the Jews.
Unless you have someone on the inside, a small bank is like a deep inner palace that is easy to enter but difficult to leave.
First, they attract people with high interest rates. Once they deposit their money, they have to obey whatever they want them to do.
Big banks are not that reliable either.
At least in my experience before traveling through time, I learned about the bankruptcy of the British Barings Bank, the American Lehman Brothers, Silicon Valley Bank, etc. from the buzzing news, even though I did not belong to the financial system.
So these minefields must be avoided.
Those who have the money to play may be able to find a way to take advantage of the situation; but small players like me will only be the leeks to be harvested.
Don't get so angry that you use your Kryptonian powers to storm the bank and "dispense justice."
Some banks' primary business is actually financial investment, with deposits, withdrawals, remittances, and transfers considered secondary. These banks have a high barrier to entry, requiring either a referral from an acquaintance or the rejection of "poor people" like Henry.
In short, Bank of America's tactics are shady and devious. If you're not careful, you'll fall into their trap and be left with nowhere to turn. Even if you take them to court, you won't win against these behemoths. After all, they make the laws.
The United States was founded on a consortium, and this is no joke.
The more I think about it, the more I realize the sheer number of pitfalls surrounding the goal of "opening a bank account." Even the super-brains of Krypton are tempted to give up.
As I was driving on the road, I saw a Citibank on the side of the road.
Henry thought that although he was afraid of being bullied by his store's size, once it reached a certain size, many things would become more formalized and transparent, which actually became a convenience for him.
I'm not afraid of him having too many rules, I'm just afraid that his rules will drift.
So Henry found a place to park his car, picked up his backpack, and walked towards Citibank.

Chapter 35: Deepening Bonds
Henry's appearance wasn't slovenly, but he wasn't dressed like an upper-class person either.
He had shaved his beard with a heat ray, but his messy hair definitely detracted from his appearance in the eyes of others.
And carrying an old backpack...
Okay. That backpack looks stuffed. If someone were to carry an empty, flat backpack, they'd look like someone about to get mugged.
Of course, no bank employee would approach Henry with such a handsome face. He didn't mind, and went to the information counter himself and asked, "Hello, I want to open an account. What are the procedures?"
Henry was then directed to another small compartment where there was a black man in a neat suit with a shrewd look on his face.
"Sir, what can I do for you?"
Although the bank clerk spoke politely, a hint of arrogance lingered in his words and expression, as if he was trying to make it clear that he had escaped from his original class.
Henry wasn't here to make friends. He simply placed his old backpack on the table, unzipped it, and revealed the bundles of cash inside. He said, "Open an account and deposit money. Please."
"We don't accept money from unknown sources." The bank clerk refused directly with a look of disgust.
Henry wasn't surprised. Banks, especially in the United States, are very sensitive to such things.
If illegal proceeds could be easily deposited into the banking system, there would be no need for money laundering. Otherwise, they would allow you to deposit the funds, only to later freeze them with a court order.
Henry, unfazed, pulled out some documents and said, "This is what I earned working on a crab boat in Alaska. Here's my work permit, my salary certificate, a copy of my check, and a payment certificate from the Bank of Alaska. And here's my social security card."
The clerk took the certificate from the table, confirmed the official seal, and started to calculate.
He also noticed that the banknotes in the bag were not randomly bundled, but had seals from other banks. If they were not stolen from a bank, they must have been collected directly from the bank.
He asked, "Sir, how much do you want to deposit? What kind of account do you want to open? Do you need any financial investment portfolio recommendations?"
The disgust in his words was much less. If he could promote financial business, he would get a bonus. The dark face made the white teeth shine brighter.
"Here's $290,000 in cash. Use $20,000 for a checking account and the rest for a savings account. I need a checkbook and a credit card. I don't need anything else."
Henry clearly stated his plan, which was all based on advice from Old Tom. Although the advice he gave him had some flaws, his advice on other matters was quite reliable.
"We need to make copies of these supporting documents, is that okay?" The bank clerk asked politely even though the financial transaction was not completed.
"Please."
The bank clerk took the documents to find a copier, and asked his colleague to push over a money counting machine with an authenticity detection function to prepare to count the money in Henry's bag.
Although the banknotes have the seal of the Bank of Alaska, even if the money comes from one's own bank, no one will trust whether the seal is still reliable once it has circulated outside.
However, the counting of the 290,000 cash did not lead to any unexpected incidents, which would have given Henry a chance to slap someone in the face. After all, if a Kryptonian slapped someone in the face, it would be a truly shameful outcome, which no one wanted to see.
There is no fee to open a bank account, only an initial deposit is required. Henry's deposit is enough.
But there were additional fees for checking books and applying for credit cards, so Henry had to pay for all of this.
Anyway, he already had several thousand yuan in cash on him, so he just rummaged around and collected the money. But this set of actions made the black staff member who was in charge roll his eyes.
Pretend! It depends on you to keep pretending!
After completing all the formalities and getting his ATM card, Henry walked out of the bank. He looked at the sun at noon and felt hungry.
Credit cards require a credit check at the bank, which isn't quick. Since I didn't have a correspondence address at the moment, the bank employee told me to come back in two weeks to check.
Don't think that just because you are a wealthy person with over 200,000 yuan in deposits, the bank will not be lenient with you.
In fact, this is the result of compromise. Otherwise, someone who has not found a house yet and does not even know where to send the credit card bill would not be able to apply at all.
However, as he completed the bank account opening procedures, Henry felt that his bond with this world had deepened a little, and the sense of reality that he had really traveled through time suddenly emerged again.
The past twenty years were a blank period of my life, spent alone. If it weren't for the torture of the last few years, I would probably have forgotten that I was even a human being.
Even though it was the evil of human nature that pulled him back into this world, Henry never thought of turning evil and taking revenge on the world.
As the saying goes, you're doomed before you travel through time, and you're doomed after you travel through time. I'm just a Kryptonian, not a Celestial Dragon. Since I haven't taken revenge right away, what's the point of taking my anger out on others?
But in fact, during the recuperation period in Alaska, what supported me were still the memories before the time travel.
Watching classic old movies that exist in both worlds, I hope to find something that belongs to my pre-time travel self, something that belongs to the other world.
The feeling of unreality that I had come to a new world lingered, even when I was battling the monstrous waves on the Bering Sea.
It felt like using a max-level character to slay monsters in the Novice Village. Waves couldn't stun me, cold couldn't freeze me to death, and king crabs couldn't hurt me. Earning money was as easy as picking it up. This was a fucking game.
Fortunately, the boat captains didn't allow it, otherwise Henry could have spent the entire crabbing season on the boat.
But after arriving in Los Angeles, that feeling of being a top-level boss quickly faded from him.
This might have something to do with the path I've chosen, where my Kryptonian background is of little use. It means I'm truly starting from scratch, in an unfamiliar field, doing something I've never done before.
Or should we turn around and find something that can bring out the strengths of Kryptonians?
For example, robbing a bank.
……
How did he end up robbing a bank again? But seriously, Henry never had the thought of selflessly helping others like an ordinary superhero.
Looking at the miserable appearances of the superheroes in various film, television and animation works, one feels that this is not an excellent career development.
I don't have the great belief of unconditionally devoting myself, sacrificing my small self, and achieving the greater self. In the final analysis, I am just an ordinary person.
In a word, whoever wants to be a superhero can do it, I am just a salted Kryptonian.
If you want to change my worldview, Marvel will have to turn into a wasteland, leaving me no chance to even lie down and give up!
If a salted fish still wants to turn things around, then it still has to be a competent salted fish!
Strengthening his resolve, Henry stood in the sunlight, feeling the strength growing within him. He took a deep breath, the smell of Los Angeles.
My life has really entered a new second stage.

Chapter 36 Photo Studio
After finishing his trip to the bank, Henry went to a photo studio. This type of store, which was almost disappearing from the streets and alleys in the 20s, was still quite common in the 90s.
Especially in Los Angeles, the city that embraces Hollywood, the film capital, every photo studio has beautiful and artistic photos to show off.
It could be a particularly exquisite beauty, or a man with a personality comparable to a magazine model. Some photo studios even display photos of current celebrities or veteran celebrities when they were young.
Everyone wants to use such beautiful photos to attract men and women who come to this film capital.
If you are here as a tourist, then leave behind the most beautiful memories of your youth.
If the people who come here are young men and women pursuing their dreams, then it goes without saying that if they want to stand out in the audition, the first impression is crucial.
Without a beautiful photo, you don’t even have the qualifications to climb the red sofa. Behind this glamorous world, there is such reality and dirtiness.
For Henry, beautiful photos are secondary, but he really needs to get an ID photo for himself.
The thing I asked Old Tom to shoot in Alaska before had very poor lighting, and he made himself look like he had just crawled out of hell, looking hateful and disgusting.
