#292 - Sweet Potato Island International Space Port

A long time ago, Tang Chao wanted to build a space launch center on Sweet Potato Island, but in the beginning, practicality was the priority. First, the company's site was built, and after the company's factory area was completed, the construction of the space launch center on Sweet Potato Island started.

In the blink of an eye, it's almost the third year of the establishment of Navigator.

The Sweet Potato Island launch center would not have been completed so quickly. At least a few more months would have been needed, but now everything is accelerating, and this construction site must naturally accelerate as well.

Moreover, it does not need to be 100% completed. First, complete the necessary basic infrastructure, and it can be used.

Other "fancy" things can be done slowly in the future.

The predecessor of Sweet Potato Island was Sweet Potato Reef, which is shaped like a long ellipse, like a sweet potato floating on the sea, hence the name.

However, this sweet potato is quite large, a full 120 square kilometers.

Its long axis runs in the northeast-southwest direction, 26 kilometers long and about 8 kilometers wide. The southwest end, north-central part, and northeast end are all solid land reclaimed from large areas of reef, while the south-central part is a largelagoon.

This largelagoon is 55 square kilometers, basically occupying half of the island's area.

As a lake, or a lake in the sea, its depth varies from 14 meters to 40 meters, resulting in slightly different colors of the lake water.

Because this lake is too large, it basically divides the island into two halves. Only the north-central part of the island is connected to a one or two kilometer wide land, while the south-central part is only tens of meters wide, and the largelagoon cannot be enclosed, requiring many ship entrances and exits to be left.

Among them, the southwest end of the island was the first to be reclaimed, and complete large-scale infrastructure has been built on it, with a sufficient scale of living communities, residential areas, vegetable gardens, supermarkets, hospitals, schools, airports, ports, etc.

Most importantly, this offshore island has freshwater resources, which is very important for an island.

Because of the freshwater, it means that this island is a "living island", and animals and plants can survive here. This makes it valuable for development, has a bright future use, and has everything it has now.

The Navigator company's space launch center is located at the northeast end of the island and belongs to the second phase of the project.

The Sweet Potato Island space launch center is a full 10 degrees lower in latitude than Tianxia's original southernmost coastal launch site, within 10 degrees north latitude, very close to the equator.

These 10 degrees not only save a lot of fuel, but also allow the rocket to fly directly southeast after takeoff, passing over the Sulu Sea and the Sulawesi Sea, and then entering the vast Pacific Ocean, heading east along the equator.

The Navigator's space launch center is already at the northeasternmost end, and the entire route is over the sea, so there is no need to worry about the landing point of the rocket debris.

Perfect.

Although the "Voyager" rocket does not need to consider the debris landing area because it is reusable, the large area of ocean to the east is very important for its optimal landing area, and it can also save a lot of fuel.

Moreover, the Navigator company also has the "First Voyager" rocket, which is not reusable.

However, this "small rocket" with a payload of more than ten tons, and which cannot be recovered, has a somewhat awkward position in the Navigator company.

Don't think it's only been two years.

In the past two years, the Navigator company has developed too fast. This kind of rocket, which can be used as the main rocket in other companies or countries, really can't keep up with the Navigator company's development speed and mission positioning.

From the beginning, the "First Voyager" rocket was an emergency product, only used by the Navigator company to open up the situation and enter the space club, so it did not consider much about follow-up matters.

Because of this, Navigator did not do micro-payload launch missions from the beginning, and even did not do other companies' missions, specializing in national-level orders and its own business.

And this kind of national-level order does not have small payloads, and Navigator's own payloads are getting heavier and heavier. Just a "Mars Probe" is over 30 tons, so this kind of "small payload" rocket is gradually useless.

Now its technology has been sealed up or authorized to other aerospace companies.

However, the coastal advantage of the Sweet Potato Island space launch center has not disappeared, because it is a commercial launch center facing the world.

Very close to the equator, with minimal restrictions on rocket debris falling, this is very attractive to other commercial rocket launch companies.

Moreover, it is also on the busy main international shipping lane, with many ships coming and going, which means that transportation is very convenient for special large components such as rockets and aerospace equipment.

Logically, Tianxia's positioning of it is an international material distribution center, after all, it is located at the intersection of two oceans and two continents, and can provide services such as ship docking, cargo transshipment, material supply, and maritime rescue.

This convenient transportation is too important for commercial space launch, or for any industry.

When Tang Chao got off the plane, it was the first time he stood on this island.

The first impression was that this space launch center was huge!

Huge!

It's not that the super-heavy vertical assembly building of the Binhai launch center is not big enough, and because other buildings are relatively small, it is even more prominent, but the hugeness of the Sweet Potato Island space center is different. All the buildings are as huge as the super-heavy vertical assembly building.

Even the super-heavy vertical assembly building here has two more assembly workshops than the building at the Binhai launch center, which obviously has more assembly mission requirements.

He discovered this when the plane was still in the sky.

The most ⊥ new ⊥ small ⊥ say ⊥ in ⊥ six ⊥ 9 ⊥⊥ book ⊥⊥ bar ⊥⊥ first ⊥ hair!

In addition to this, there are huge orbital shuttle hangars, huge waiting halls, huge runways, huge control towers, and so on.

Seeing the renderings is one feeling, but actually standing in front of these huge buildings, no, not in front of them, but at the foot of them, is a completely different feeling.

If ordinary people see it, they will definitely only sigh at the excessive hugeness of this space launch center, but if professionals see it, they will definitely be able to see some clues.

Judging from the Navigator's current announced plans and vehicle scale, it will definitely not need such a large-scale space launch center, unless Navigator has larger subsequent space construction plans, larger space transportation equipment, larger... ambitions!

And Tang Chao said, of course there are, this is just the beginning.

Putting aside other things, the huge runway is not only prepared for general passenger planes and orbital shuttles. After all, even the orbital shuttle, which makes more noise during takeoff, only has a wingspan of 20 meters. As far as aircraft are concerned, it is just a small thing, so the huge runway can only be for more powerful guys.

"Finally, it's almost built, and we don't need to borrow the Binhai launch center's site anymore."

Tang Chao drove around the launch center in a mobility scooter, and then took a few people to the top of the assembly building to overlook the entire Sweet Potato Island.

Looking at the large and small ships parked in those ports, and the ships waiting to dock outside, he was very sure that he had chosen the right place as the Navigator company's space launch center.

Because he not only wants to build it into a single space launch center, but it will eventually become an internationalspaceport.

Connecting Earth and space, connecting the bustling human world and the vast universe.

It will become the first ground port for mankind to go to the stars, and it will become the most famous space transfer station in human history together with the planned space station in Earth orbit.

"Okay, set up the equipment, let's take pictures from the top of the assembly building."

By the way, I wish everyone a happy National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival!
