The design of the new museum building combines the traditional Suzhou architectural style, placing the museum between the courtyards, so that the building is in harmony with its surrounding environment. The main courtyard of the museum is equivalent to the extension and modern interpretation of the architectural style of the Humble Administrator's Garden in the north.

The new museum courtyard, the smaller exhibition area, and the courtyard of the administrative management area break away from the traditional landscape design ideas in terms of landscaping design. The new design idea is to seek a new direction and theme for each garden, to continuously excavate and refine the essence of traditional garden landscape design and form the future development direction of Chinese garden architecture.

The glass roof will complement the stone roof, allowing natural light to enter the event areas and museum exhibits, orienting and entertaining visitors. The construction system of the glass roof and stone roof is also derived from the traditional roof system. The past wooden beam and wooden rafter frame system will be replaced by a modern open steel structure, woodwork and paint ceiling system. Metal sunshades and nostalgic wood A framework will be used extensively under the glass roof to control and filter the sun's rays entering the exhibition area.

Among them, the most unique is the northern courtyard on the central axis, which not only allows visitors to see the characteristics of Jiangnan waterscape through the glass in the lobby, but also directly connects the courtyard to the supplementary garden of the Humble Administrator's Garden through the north wall, integrating the old and new landscapes into one.

The main courtyard is surrounded by the new building on the east, south and west sides, and adjacent to the Humble Administrator's Garden on the north, accounting for about 15 spaces of the new building. This is a creative landscape garden carefully built on the basis of classical garden elements. It is composed of ponds covered with pebbles, rockery, straight and curved bridges, octagonal pavilions, bamboo forests, etc. It is not only different from traditional gardens in Suzhou, but also in line with China Humanistic atmosphere and charm, the landscape garden is directly connected to the supplementary garden of the Humble Administrator's Garden through the north wall. The waterscape begins at the northwest corner of the north wall, as if water is diverted from the west of the Humble Administrator's Garden.
