"Bang...bang..."
When the melodious school bell rang from the castle's clock tower, all the young wizards were already sitting in the History of Magic classroom.
"Strange, isn't the History of Magic professor coming?" Draco looked at the empty podium and whispered to Lycos, "Then didn't we come so early for nothing?"
"Don't worry, the professor of History of Magic will come." Lycos glanced at the History of Magic textbook on the table and sighed.
He didn't know if he could endure the most boring classes at Hogwarts...
Just before the bell rang, a pearly white ghost emerged from the wall behind the blackboard in the History of Magic classroom.
The ghost wore a pair of small, thick glasses and held a tattered transparent book in his hands. He looked old and shriveled.
"I'm Cuthbert Binns, your History of Magic professor, and today we're going to be talking about..."
As soon as the ghost entered the classroom, he began to talk to himself in a dry voice.
The young wizards were shocked. They had never expected that their History of Magic professor was actually a ghost! They had never expected that this ghost professor could make a good class so boring...
After trying for five minutes, Lycos found that he really couldn't stand Professor Binns's buzzing teaching style. It felt like he was an old vacuum cleaner working at the podium.
Then Lycos began to whisper the story to Draco and Professor Coppins:
"I heard that Professor Binns, who continued teaching until he was very old, fell asleep in front of the fireplace in the staff room one night, and forgot to bring his body with him when he went to class the next morning."
"Afterwards, he became the only ghost professor at Hogwarts. He might never retire."
"So this is also what's written in Hogwarts: A History?" Draco asked curiously.
"Hmm..." Lycos fell silent, feeling that such gossip might not be recorded in "A School History".
"Maybe……"
He said ambiguously.
……
Chapter 13 Professor, you are awesome!
"Snoring... snoring..."
The September weather was still a bit hot, and the scorching sun shone through the three stained-glass windows into the History of Magic classroom, illuminating the old desks so brightly that it made people dizzy.
Snoring sounds could be heard from time to time in the stuffy classroom, with two of the snorers being the loudest.
"I really don't understand. How can these two guys continue to sleep after sleeping for a whole day?" Draco raised his neck from the bright table.
He was already drowsy from Professor Binns's lecture and was already lying on the table ready to take a nap.
But the deafening snoring of Crabbe and Goyle behind him made it impossible for him to fall asleep.
"Maybe the lullaby is too effective." Lycos forced his eyes open and agreed casually.
He forced himself to listen to the History of Magic lecture for a few minutes, resisting the urge to sleep. He discovered that although Professor Binns' tone was like that of a dry, old vacuum cleaner, the content he described was all knowledge that did not appear in the textbooks, and some of it was quite useful.
"...The British wizarding world was originally chaotic and disorderly. Wizards were often hunted by other forces, and most wizards were unable to cast magic correctly. It was not until the late 10th century that the four founders established Hogwarts..."
Professor Binns was still floating above the podium, talking eloquently. If his tone wasn't so dry and unpleasant, there would actually be a lot of useful information in his content.
"Lex, so those disappearing stairs are really traps to defend against foreign enemies?" Draco leaned close to Lycos and asked quietly, "I thought you were lying to me before."
"Of course, otherwise would Ms. Ravenclaw torture her own students?" Lycos nodded boredly.
"...After the 12th century AD, the growing wizarding community established the Wizards' Council, the predecessor of the British Ministry of Magic established in 1707... However, a department that appeared earlier than the Wizards' Council was a mysterious Department of Affairs, of which there are almost no traceable records..."
Professor Binns continued to talk incessantly, with almost no pauses, as if he didn't need to breathe at all... As a ghost, he really didn't need to breathe.
By now, even the little wizards in Ravenclaw who loved learning could no longer hold on and were lying on the table.
"Hey, Lex, do you think he never even looks down at the classroom?"
Draco looked at Professor Binns, who was only focused on the transparent notebook in his hand, and started to have evil thoughts.
"This ghost doesn't even care about sleeping in class, and he doesn't even move his eyes. Will he not notice if we sneak out of the classroom?"
"What if he calls the roll before get out of class ends?" Lycos supported his chin with his palm and responded incoherently.
"What are you afraid of? I bet he doesn't even bother to take care of us." Draco shrugged. "Besides, my dad is the school director. Can he fire me for leaving early for once?"
Draco did what he said, hunched over, following the shadows in the classroom where the sun didn't shine, and planned to sneak out of the classroom early -
"Ma Fen, what are you doing?" The dry voice like an old vacuum cleaner suddenly stopped.
Draco froze in place.
When the "lullaby" stopped, the sleepiness in the whole classroom was cleared away.
Many sleepy little wizards were no longer sleepy, and they all turned their eyes to Draco who had left his seat.
One of the young Ravenclaw wizards sitting by the window was so considerate as to half-open the curtains, letting the sunlight shine on Draco's face like a spotlight.
Draco straightened up woodenly, thinking for a long time, but he couldn't figure out how the ghost professor, who didn't care about his students at all, found him.
"My... my name is not Mafen, my name is Malfoy." As he changed the subject, his mind was spinning rapidly, thinking about what excuses he could make for being caught leaving early.
"Okay, Marvel, what are you doing?" Professor Binns changed the subject smoothly, although he still didn't call Draco's name correctly.
"I... I just had a stomachache." Draco blushed.
"That's a lame excuse. I've heard it thousands of times in my teaching career. One point deduction from Slytherin." Professor Binns said indifferently, "Return to your seat, Malzahar."
Even when scolding students, Professor Binns' tone was still the same as when he was lecturing: dry, indifferent, and without any ups and downs.
Draco sat back in his seat, feeling really stupid.
"I'm so stupid, really." He said to Lycos with a painful expression, "This ghost has been teaching for hundreds of years. He knows all the tricks of the students. Why should I leave early under his nose..."
"It's okay, at least you livened up the atmosphere." Lycos praised his actions, "Didn't you notice? The originally dull classroom is now filled with a cheerful atmosphere."
Draco turned around numbly and found that most of the young wizards who were originally sleeping soundly had woken up and were looking at him happily.
They were pleasantly surprised to see something fun in the boring History of Magic class!
Except for two people who were still sleeping——
"Crabbe! Goyle!"
Draco gritted his teeth and put the blame on his two followers.
"If you two hadn't been snoring so loudly that I couldn't sleep, I wouldn't have thought of leaving early and become the laughing stock of the whole classroom!"
The more he thought about it, the angrier he became. Draco slapped Crabbe and Goyle's throbbing arms again and again...
Crabbe and Goyle were still not awakened, but Professor Binns noticed something unusual.
"What's that noise?" asked Professor Binns.
Draco froze again and held his breath, hoping that his little movement would not be noticed by the professor.
"No need to be so polite." Professor Binns suddenly said something incomprehensible.
His expression changed for the first time, and a smile uglier than crying appeared on his face.
"Just take good notes, no need to applaud. I'm not that vain ghost."
Professor Binns waved his hands repeatedly, as if someone was really applauding him.
"...Lex, do you think this professor is sick?" Draco had a very strange expression.
"I think anyone who teaches day after day without any emotion will develop a mental illness," Lycos analyzed seriously. "Professor Binns can't see the problem because he's a ghost."
"Furthermore, Professor Binns has received nothing but negative reviews throughout his years of teaching, which is very hurtful."
"Maybe he just lacks a little positive feedback?"
As he spoke, Lycos suddenly moved closer to Draco and whispered a few words.
"Is this... is this possible?" Draco was dumbfounded.
"Go ahead, young man!" Lycos patted his shoulder. "Don't you want to make up for your previous mistakes and become a joke in the History of Magic class?"
Draco swallowed hard, finally made up his mind, and nodded vigorously.
"Clap clap clap..."
He suddenly clapped his hands vigorously and shouted:
"Professor, you are a great speaker!"
……
Chapter 14 Quirrell Requests for Support
Professor Binns was a little confused.
For the first time since he started the lecture, he raised his eyes from the notebook in his hand and looked down at the podium in the classroom.
Draco's originally pale face had turned as red as a monkey's butt due to embarrassment, but at this point he was already in a difficult position and could only clap his hands and offer insincere praise...
The Ravenclaw wizards around him looked at him strangely, and the Slytherins were stunned by the actions of this pure-blood.
They said they didn't understand.
How could Slytherin have such a shameless student who could tell lies that even a dog wouldn't believe?
However, when no one understood, Professor Binns threw away his transparent notebook and wiped his eyes with emotion.
"I knew my class would be understood one day." He looked at Draco, his transparent face clearly inscribed with the words "true friends are hard to find." "Well done, Mazda, ten points to Slytherin!"
"Professor, I'm Malfoy..." Draco's expression seemed indescribable.
"Okay, Malaka." Professor Binns responded as readily as ever. "You are the most outstanding student I have ever taught in these hundreds of years!"
After this incident, Professor Binns's emotions and tone in the following lectures suddenly became fuller. He vividly and emotionally described the era he had experienced and the history he had studied carefully for many years.
The young wizards were stunned, then overjoyed. They took out pages of rich notes from their feather notebooks that hadn't been touched during the entire class...
……
"It's incredible that this ghost professor has such a deep understanding of the history of magic."
On the way to the auditorium for dinner, I could occasionally hear the little wizards discussing the History of Magic class.
Draco became the hero who "awakened the sleeping Professor Binns". He held his back high and his chin held high along the way, wanting to brag about his achievements in the History of Magic class to everyone he met.
