Obviously, the consecutive attacks by two ghosts made these ghosts feel panicked and fearful.

The little wizards in the library slipped out one after another, watching the scene and speculating in low voices.

"Hermione Granger seems to be a Muggle-born, right? It's normal for her to be attacked." Someone said, "Does anyone know what Ms. Grey's background is?"

"Fortunately, the attack happened outside the library. If that Slytherin heir had come into the library, wouldn't we be doomed?"

"What kind of monster is in the secret room? I'm so scared..."

"..."

At this moment, with the sound of hurried footsteps, Professor McGonagall, wearing a pointed hat and emerald green wizard robe, walked up quickly.

"Quiet!" she snapped, moving straight up to Hermione.

The noise around them quieted down with the arrival of Professor McGonagall. They wanted to see how the Vice-Headmaster would handle the matter.

It was obvious that Professor McGonagall looked very nervous. She pursed her lips tightly and her face turned a little pale.

"Ms. Wally, Mr. Hayden, please take Ms. Grey and Miss Granger to the infirmary first..." Although she was nervous, she acted very efficiently.

After giving her instructions, Professor McGonagall looked at Percy who had hurried over and said, "Mr. Weasley, notify all prefects and have all students stay in the common room. All professors will be checking the entire castle!"

"Also, from today onwards, all students must return to their respective college common rooms before six o'clock in the evening. No student is allowed to leave the dormitory after this time..."

"Also, every class will be held in a group, escorted by a professor. No student may use the restroom without a professor accompanying them. All Quidditch practices and matches have been postponed. No evening activities will be held."

Just as Professor McGonagall was telling Percy what to do next, Harry and Ron came running over, panting.

"Professor, we heard...something happened to Hermione," Harry said breathlessly. "What...what happened?"

Before he could finish his words, he saw Hermione, who was stiff as a stone statue, and he and Ron froze in place.

"Miss Granger was found next to the library... She had just left my office." Professor McGonagall looked at Hermione's two good friends, her eyes darkening. "This is my dereliction of duty."

Harry and Ron were speechless for a long time.

"How about this? Mr. Potter and Mr. Weasley will take Miss Granger and Ms. Gray to the school infirmary." Professor McGonagall sighed and said slowly, "I will escort you there personally."

"Mr. Hayden and Miss Worley, Professor Snape will be here shortly. He will escort you back to the common room."

Lycos did not raise any objections, but just stood there quietly thinking.

He always felt that the attack had left some clues, but he had no idea...and the most important point was, how did Riddle get out of the Horcrux diary?

……

Chapter 162 Who Killed My Chicken?

After the other professors arrived at the scene, Professor McGonagall led Harry and Ron to the school infirmary on the same floor.

The little wizards who were watching the fun nearby were taken back to their respective common rooms by other professors.

As the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, Lockhart was naturally among the professors escorting the young wizards back to the common room...

He seemed not worried at all about the attack. He put on a confident attitude and kept emphasizing to the students that he would protect everyone and that they didn't need to be afraid.

However, the little wizards following Lockhart did not seem to trust him very much. They huddled together tremblingly, fearing that a big monster would appear from somewhere and kill Lockhart and them all.

The ghosts also dispersed one after another, only the Bloody Baron was still following Ms. Grey with a sad face, as if he was not a ghost, but a lonely ghost wandering aimlessly in the wilderness.

Snape was the last to arrive because he stayed in the basement of the castle all year round, far away from where the incident happened.

"Slytherins, come here and form a line."

He first glanced at Lycos obscurely, then said with a gloomy face: "I'll give you one minute... If you haven't lined up after one minute, then wait here to be caught by the monster!"

The young wizards of Slytherin shuddered and gathered together as quickly as possible.

Snape snorted coldly, then threw away his long black robe and walked quickly down the stairs...

"We're here, let's go in."

When they arrived at the door of the common room, Snape waved his hand impatiently and drove the little wizards back behind the stone door hidden in the wall like chasing flies.

"Stay in the common room and don't let me catch anyone sneaking out. Do you understand?" he said coldly.

The young wizards nodded in agreement and then walked into the stone door leading to the common room one by one.

Just as Lecos was about to follow his classmates into the door, he was suddenly stopped.

"Hayden, please stay for a moment." Snape's cold voice sounded.

Lycos stopped and turned to look at the Slytherin Headmaster in surprise.

"professor?"

Snape said nothing, just shook his sleeves and walked straight to his office.

Lycos shook his head helplessly and had to follow him along the dark underground corridor, passing many green candles, until he arrived at Snape's office, the Potions Professor.

As soon as he entered the office, Snape slammed the door shut.

"Tell me, what happened today?" he asked very seriously.

"Professor, what are you talking about?" Lycos frowned.

"The headmaster has told me that you were the one who led the last attack on ghosts, for the so-called purpose of luring the snake out of its hole." Snape said darkly.

"I admit that you did lure out a ghost lurking in Hogwarts... but then, how do you explain this attack? Are you planning to lure the snake out of its hole again while the headmaster is away?"

Lycos looked at Snape and shook his head slightly.

"I didn't do this attack," he said slowly. "I still don't understand what happened."

"You didn't do it?" Snape's eyes narrowed. "You mean... besides you, there's someone else who can open the Chamber of Secrets?"

"To be precise, it wasn't me who opened the secret room. It was someone hidden in the diary who opened it." Lycos shook his head. "But now I've destroyed the diary, and the person who could open the secret room has disappeared..."

He took out the Horcrux diary, of which only the spine was left, and frowned.

"Logically, when I destroyed the diary, that person should have perished along with it... but he didn't. I don't know how else he could have survived."

Lycos did not tell Snape about the Horcruxes.

Because Dumbledore didn't tell him - maybe because of Harry Potter, or maybe because of other reasons. In any case, the headmaster must have his reasons, and Lecos would not break this.

So he glossed over the Horcrux Riddle, only mentioning that there was a person living in the diary who could open the Chamber of Secrets...

"I really don't understand why Dumbledore is going crazy with you." Snape cursed inwardly, "If a magical creation can escape control at any time, why take the risk of controlling it?"

He paced back and forth on the spot, his face looking extremely ugly.

Lycos also sighed softly.

Neither Dumbledore nor Lycos himself ever thought that the Horcrux Riddle could be separated from the Horcrux itself and survive in another way...

They had never expected that a goblin would appear out of nowhere and be able to restrain Dumbledore, dragging the most powerful wizard in the wizarding world somewhere else, giving Riddle the opportunity to act in Dumbledore's absence.

Thinking of this, Lycos' heart moved.

He was a little confused. Was it because Dumbledore went somewhere else that Riddle found the opportunity to act? Or... was it that Dumbledore's absence was planned by Riddle and he reached a consensus with the goblin?

Lycos felt as if he had grasped something...

Just then, Snape's voice interrupted his thoughts: "Can you open the Chamber of Secrets now?"

"Um, yes, yes..." Lycos hesitated.

He had already learned many words and sentences in Parseltongue, so opening a secret room door was no problem for him.

"Take me in." Snape pursed his lips. "We can't just sit there and hope he won't do more."

"But the monster in the secret room is a basilisk," Lycos said seriously. "Because the basilisk's innate ability is to kill people with just a glance. With all due respect, even if you go there in person, there's a chance you'll capsize."

"It's not your turn to teach me how to do it." Snape said coldly, "You just need to answer me - can you take me to the Chamber of Secrets?"

Lycos took a deep breath and nodded slowly.

"If you insist on going..." he said softly, "you'd better ask Hagrid for a few roosters. One of the basilisk's weaknesses is the crowing of roosters. That sound is fatal to the basilisk."

"Okay." Snape didn't object this time and nodded obediently. "Now come with me to find him and deal with that basilisk that could hurt people at any time as soon as possible."

As he spoke, he pushed open the office door decisively, his footsteps crossing each other quickly, and his robe even pulled into a line parallel to the ground behind him.

Lycos had to jog to keep up with Snape.

However, when the two of them walked to Hagrid's hut as quickly as possible, they found that Hagrid was not the only one in the hut...

"Severus? And Mr. Hayden?" Professor McGonagall opened the door of Hagrid's hut and looked at the two wizards, one big and one small, standing at the door with confusion.

Lycos saw through the open door that there was a very strange-looking man standing behind Professor McGonagall - the stranger was short, fat, and stocky, with messy gray hair and an anxious look on his face.

His clothes were a strange hodgepodge: a pinstriped suit, a bright red tie, a long black cape, purple pointed boots, and a dark green top hat tucked under his arm.

"That's... Cornelius Fudge?" Snape didn't answer Professor McGonagall's question, his face darkening. "What is the Minister of Magic doing here?"

Lycos also slightly widened his eyes, feeling that something bad was happening...

"It's Professor Snape." Fudge also noticed Snape at the door and turned to greet him.

"Excuse me, but the Ministry of Magic received a report this morning stating that Hogwarts had been attacked twice, and this time even involved a young student?"

Lycos saw that Hagrid in the shed had turned pale and sweat had begun to form on his forehead. He sank into a huge chair and looked at Professor McGonagall and Professor Snape, then at Cornelius Fudge.

"If I hadn't received that letter of complaint, you might have kept me in the dark." Fudge's face wasn't looking good either. "This kind of vicious incident... Professor McGonagall, you should understand that you should report it to the Ministry of Magic."

"But you asked Dumbledore to leave today!" Professor McGonagall emphasized, "He left Hogwarts to fight the goblins with the Aurors in order to save your financial income!"

"If Dumbledore hadn't left the school, I'm sure the attack wouldn't have happened!"

"Oh, no, no, no, Professor McGonagall," Fudge said with an annoying emphasis, "Hogwarts is not Dumbledore's Hogwarts, it's the Hogwarts of the entire British wizarding community. You can't expect Dumbledore to stay in the school all the time."

"Trust me, I will take care of this..."

After saying this, Fudge turned his gaze away from Professor McGonagall and looked at the big man who was slumped in the chair.

"It's terrible, Hagrid," Fudge said in a crisp, rapid voice. "It's terrible, but we have to come. Because you already have a criminal record, as Minister of Magic, I have to take appropriate action against you."

"I didn't," Hagrid looked at Professor McGonagall pleadingly. "You know I didn't, Professor McGonagall, Mr. Fudge..."

"I hope you understand, Cornelius, that both Dumbledore and I have complete trust in Hagrid." Professor McGonagall pursed her lips tightly and said to Fudge in a tough tone.

"But you see, Professor McGonagall," Fudge shrugged, "Hagrid's criminal record is very unfavorable to him. The Ministry of Magic will have to do something - we have already contacted the school board."

"But taking Hagrid away won't help at all!" Professor McGonagall said coldly, her face pale with anger, her eyes flashing with anger, "Even if Hagrid is taken away, Hogwarts is still in danger!"
