Once the Crescent Moon is damaged, no matter how tenacious the Wild Wolf Warriors are, they will only end up being completely lost in the subspace.
Space Wolves warriors were never afraid of death, it was just a call from the All-Father to ascend to Valhalla. They just felt regretful that they might not be able to fulfill their promise to Wolf King Leman Russ and sink into the Sea of Souls with their mission.
What fate awaits them, falling into the jaws of the Wolf of Doom, or drowning in their own blood?
Faffnal optimistically began to imagine how he would die, thinking that it would be a very interesting thing.
"If we are lucky enough, the warp storm will wash the wreckage of our ship ashore in an unknown corner of the universe. Perhaps a boy will pick up our legendary story and record it."
"I hope the one who picked me up wasn't a hateful alien, otherwise I will come back to life and give him an axe!" The loud laughter of the wolf brothers rang out from the communication channel, and everyone was laughing out loud.
Faffnir stroked his power axe, a finely crafted weapon carefully forged by Fenris's technicians. It had helped him kill many alien enemies.
He hummed, with a distant emphasis, some minor tune popular in Fenris.
"All-Father and Russ, please guide us in the direction—"
It was not known whether the calls and prayers of the Wolf Warriors really worked, but in the confusing subspace, an extremely eye-catching spot of light suddenly lit up.
Faffnir stood up suddenly, rushed to the Navigator's room, grabbed the Navigator's shoulders and lifted him up, his nose almost touching the tortured psychic.
With foul saliva spurting out, the Space Wolf could not suppress his excitement, his cold blood from Fenris was boiling.
"Tell me, tell me now! What is that! That glowing beacon!"
The Navigator has a slightly deformed eye on his forehead, which is a distinctive feature of this human subspecies.
Through the third eye, they can see clearly the appearance of the etheric current.
This extremely haggard man was also screaming with excitement; the whispers from the warp almost drove him crazy.
"A beacon! It's a man-made beacon! It's glowing, pointing in a direction!"
"But I don't know whether this beacon is pointing to something good or bad, sir. It could be an intentional trap, waiting for us to step into it."
Faffnal punched the metal cabin wall, making a dull thud.
"Listen to my orders, the Cang Yue will start its engine immediately and move towards the direction of this beacon!"
"at all costs!"
Chapter 134: Subspace Encounter
The tiny Crescent Moon bravely advanced in the waves of the Warp. Like a fishing boat on the Fenris Ocean, it resolutely and stubbornly broke through the ice and headed straight for its goal.
It is difficult to judge the exact distance in the warp. Even if the flashing beacon is right in front of you, it may take several days of sailing to reach it.
Faffnir stared at the direction of the beacon with his naked eyes, although he knew it was useless.
Subspace navigation is not something that can be accomplished by simply glancing at the coordinates. Here, spatial positions and even temporal positions are changing all the time, and the navigator needs to constantly report directions so that the ship can calibrate its own status.
The wolf's two big hearts kept beating, pumping out more blood than usual.
He suppressed his excitement and tried to remain calm. He was delighted at the glimmer of hope he saw, but he was also afraid that this hope might be extinguished at any time.
The cruel nature of Fenris taught the Space Wolves a lesson: hope and opportunity only appear once, and once missed, the losers can only freeze to death in the extreme cold and blizzards.
"How is it? How far is it?"
The wolf was patient and spoke as gently as possible to the navigator.
This is the only navigator they have.
"Sir, according to calculations, it may take nearly two days of sailing." The navigator answered Faffnal's question while determining the direction of the beacon.
His tone was sometimes high and sometimes low, and his limbs were waving as if he was grasping something. The wolf knew that this was the navigator trying to capture the light of the beacon with his third eye.
"Is that the light of Terra? The Astronomican?" the wolves asked.
The navigator shook his head. He was a little hesitant, but still said, "I can't be sure. The damaged equipment on our ship can't give an accurate conclusion. But based on experience, I don't think it's the light from the Astronomican."
"It's a similar, but not exactly the same beacon."
Faffnir strapped his battle axe to his waist, crossed his arms across his chest, and stood beside the navigator.
"So it's most likely a signal released by some entity. It could be hope, or it could be some disguised malicious bait."
The wolf's words puzzled the navigator. He asked doubtfully, "Should we continue to move forward? You said it might be a bait."
"Do not."
Faffnar stared at the navigator and spoke word by word.
"So we should hold our weapons tightly and see for ourselves whether it is good or bad, until we know the truth. If it is of good intentions, then we can fight side by side, and if it is of bad intentions, we can unleash the wrath of the Space Wolves."
The navigator shuddered, then put aside all distracting thoughts. After all, he was only responsible for navigation, and if there was any real danger, these Space Marines would be the first to take the lead.
He scanned the warp with his psychic eyes. After an unknown amount of time, he screamed again. The sharp noise made the wolves around him frown.
"what happens?"
"It's a ship! It's an Imperial warship! I see them!"
The navigator's information immediately cheered up the wolves, but then the atmosphere in the cabin quickly dropped to freezing point.
They didn't know whether the ships that appeared here were friends or enemies. After all, not all those lost in the warp were loyalists.
"We only have one ship left, the Cang Yue, which could disintegrate at any time. If a void sea battle were to occur, we would have no chance at all."
"If they are enemies, then we can only conduct a void boarding." The Faffnir Blood Alliance raised his battle axe, and the roar of the Fenris people echoed in the ship.
The remaining Space Wolves responded in the same way, raising their frosty battle axes above their heads, their smooth axe blades reflecting the filthy light of the Warp.
These Fenris men laughed, as if what they were about to do was not a life-threatening shipboard mission, but a hunting outing.
"Can you confirm the other party's identity? All-Father, I hope that they are friendly forces." Faffnal asked with his head down. Sweat kept dripping down the navigator's smooth head, making him look like he was fished out of the water.
The wolf's keen sense of smell could smell the sour stench coming from the navigator's body, which was fermented due to lack of water for cleaning, as well as the strange smell of subspace energy.
Then, before the navigator could reply, Faffnal smelled a hint of relaxing pheromones.
Crisis resolved.
"My lord, those are the ships of the Tenth and Fifth Legions. They have also discovered us."
Faffnir murmured, savoring the sequence of the two legions, the Iron Hands and the White Scars?
To the Iron Hands, the Space Wolves sympathized with these cousins, whose father had been slain by the treacherous Fulgrim on Isstvan's Landing, and to whom they were unquestioningly loyal.
Even among the many loyalists, the Iron Hands were the least likely to collude with the enemy. The death of Ferrus Malus left an indelible mark on all the Iron Hands, and the echoes of his death will forever haunt the Tenth Legion.
"As for those White Scars, humph, a bunch of bastards! Complete bastards!"
The Space Wolves remembered that the VI Legion had marched to Prospero at the Emperor's command.
The Emperor ordered the Red King Magnus to be escorted back to Terra, but this order was distorted by the Warmaster and the Wolves were ordered to burn down the home of the Thousand Sons Legion. Wolf King Leman Russ severely injured and broke the Red King's spine.
In the ensuing melee, the VI Legion led its retreat, only to encounter the main force of the Alpha Legion. When Leman Russ appealed to his brother Chagatai Khan for help, the Khan of Chogoris was annoyed by the conflicting information.
Khan chose not to help anyone, and the White Scars drove their fastest battleship in the universe and sailed away from the encirclement of the Alpha Legion.
Although it seems like neither side is helping the other, in the eyes of the wild wolves, these Chogoris barbarians are simply watching people die without helping.
If the Sixth Legion had not been strong enough to hold on, they would probably have met their end because of the White Scars' indifference to their will.
Faffnar snorted coldly, but still pinched his nose and acknowledged the existence of the white scar.
Now everyone is trying to survive in the subspace storm and has no time to dwell on past grudges.
The Waning Moon was just a Zeta-class envoy ship, not to mention that the poor ship had been tortured by the raging warp storm and most of its equipment had been destroyed.
And they could all spot the fleets belonging to the Iron Hands and the White Scars, so naturally the other side had already discovered them.
The Space Wolves had the Navigator signal their identity.
After the two sides briefly exchanged information and their respective identification codes, the Cang Yue took the initiative to approach the large fleet in front of them.
The vast majority of the ships in this fleet belonged to the White Scars, with only a single scarred battleship belonging to the Iron Hands.
At the other party's signal, the Faffnal Blood Alliance quickly transferred all the personnel and remaining supplies on the Cangyue to the safer battleships by barge.
The Space Wolves stepped onto the hated White Scars' ship, and when they felt the thick steel under their feet, Faffnir breathed a sigh of relief.
Regardless of whether they can find a way to survive through the beacon, at least the brave Space Wolves will not accept the call of the All-Father just because of the ridiculous reason that the ship is scrapped.
Led by the servitor, the tall wolf passed through the complex cabin pipes. At the bridge, the special captain of the Space Wolves Legion met two colleagues.
One of the Iron Hands warriors was dressed in black mourning garb, while the other had a White Scar warrior with a strange bun on his hair, looking as pale as the frost on the Fenris tundra.
"Space Wolves, Blood Alliance of Faffnir." said the Wolf warrior, and then squeezed out a Fenrisian slang from his mouth in a strange tone.
"Winter has not yet come, but we have already met, my cousin."
Dressed in mourning and looking a little dispirited, Iron Hand responded politely.
He extended one of his signature cybernetic bodies and greeted the Space Wolves.
"Hands of Steel, Elon Cleaver."
"The White Scars, Timur Gantura."
The white scar named Gantula gave a polite smile. He certainly knew what the wild wolf in front of him was trying to express.
See you in winter, this is a common saying in Fenris culture. Generally speaking, this saying is used to say goodbye to a dying person.
When Chagatai Khan chose not to help either side, he responded to his brother Leman Russ with these words: See you in the winter.
It seems that Fenris's brother is still brooding over what happened.
Chapter 135 Gathering in Macragge
The beacon lit by Faros illuminates more than just the Faffnir Blood Alliance ahead.
The Destruction Storm comes suddenly, which means that any ships that have not left the Warp before the storm arrives will be lost in the Warp.
The raging ether currents destroyed most human ships, but a large number still survived.
After Macragge was lit up and the flashing beacon was released into the Warp, within hours, days, and weeks, survivors began to arrive in the Macragge system from the Warp.
Most of these ships are isolated individuals, and judging from the appearance of the warships, they have all suffered long-term torture and damage. If they do not receive guidance from the beacon, they may soon capsize in the Sea of Souls.
