In order to resurrect his lover, Imhotep stole Ansuna's body from the tomb and entered the city of the dead, Hamunaptra, where the tombs of successive pharaohs and treasures were accumulated.

In Hamunaptra, the city of the dead, Imhotep obtained the holy book that controls death, and used the mysterious spell on it to summon Ansuna's soul back from the underworld. When the ceremony was about to be completed, the pharaoh's guards broke in and interrupted the ceremony.

Imhotep and some of his men were punished by the guards, and their men were mummified alive. Imhotep was sentenced to the most horrible punishment in Egypt, insect eating, because he killed the pharaoh and disturbed the peace of successive pharaohs.

Imhotep was wrapped like a mummy and placed in an iron coffin. Egyptian scarabs were poured into the coffin, which slowly devoured Imhotep's body until he died.

According to legend, if a person who suffered this punishment returned from hell, he would become a monster that destroyed Egypt. Therefore, the place where Imhotep's mummy was located became the place where the guardians were guarded by the pharaoh's messengers.

But Imhotep's remaining men have never given up on welcoming Imhotep's return. They have been working hard for this in the name of the "Holy Snake".

During the Ptolemaic Kingdom, they even supported a puppet pharaoh, and the plan was close to success, but unfortunately they provoked the wrong person, Bayek, known as the Egyptian Kratos.
