Just as he was wandering aimlessly after school, trying to make a last effort, he found a somewhat secluded kendo hall near Shiba Park in Hamamatsucho. In the Minato area where every inch of land is valuable, this kendo hall actually owns an ancient-style dojo with its own entrance, which is out of tune with the surrounding high-rise buildings.
Uesugi Kiyoshi backed out at that moment, as he generally could not afford the tuition at a kendo gym with such financial resources.
But although he was already somewhat discouraged, he still knocked on the door and entered with the idea of trying his luck. After all, it didn't cost any money to try.
Then he met his mentor.
At that time, there was only one person sitting cross-legged in the huge kendo field. There was no disciple practicing or teacher teaching.
The man sitting cross-legged has an elegant face, a short beard, and a solemn expression. He must have been a handsome and elegant young man when he was young. Even though he is now middle-aged, he deserves to be called an old handsome man.
That was Uesugi Kiyoshi's teacher.
Go to Izumi Hidekawa!
Chapter 13: Teacher
At that time, Hidekawa Kamiizumi did not seem to have expected that anyone would come to visit him - nowadays, this kind of ancient kendo dojo is not popular, the training is tiring, the threshold is high, and the skills learned are not applicable to dragon slaying. Even after you have learned ancient kendo, you may not pass the kendo rating test - that is the level rating of competitive kendo, which has nothing to do with your ancient swordsmanship.
This dojo is the ancestral property of Hidekawa Kamiizumi. He is a well-known swordsman in the kendo circle and is not short of money. He opened this kendo hall more for the inheritance of the kendo school rather than for recruiting disciples and making money.
So, he gave a chance to Uesugi Kiyoshi who came to visit rashly.
He asked Uesugi Kiyoshi to practice the nine basic moves of ancient swordsmanship.
That is: Tang bamboo, cassock cut, reverse cassock, left pheasant, right pheasant, left cut up, right cut up, against the wind, and stabbing.
The names are quite childish. In fact, it is just the rice character "砍" (cutting rice), plus basic moves such as straight chop, forward stab, and backward stab.
This is not exclusive to Japanese Kendo. Every country's swordsmanship has these moves, they're just called differently.
But these basic movements are the cornerstone of kendo. In different schools, the method of applying force for each technique is different. Some focus on wrist strength, some focus on speed, some are open and close, and some are agile, and the effects achieved are also different.
Uesugi Kiyoshi naturally would not refuse such a reasonable request. Before junior high school, he was forced by his father to practice the "Uesugi family swordsmanship" every day. He has formed muscle memory for kendo and will not forget the basic skills completely due to a short period of lack of training.
After reading Uesugi Kiyoshi's sword construction, Kamiizumi Hidekawa's expression changed slightly. After pondering for a while, he actually agreed to accept Uesugi Kiyoshi as his apprentice, but he put forward some harsh conditions.
He did not charge tuition, but wanted Uesugi Kiyoshi to come to the dojo and do odd jobs for him for three months. During these three months, he could observe Uezumi Hidekawa's kendo training and learn swordsmanship by himself. After three months, he would see what level the boy could reach and then decide whether to accept Uesugi Kiyoshi as his apprentice.
To be honest, after hearing the words "no tuition fees", Uesugi Kiyoshi was 100% willing.
As for doing odd jobs for others, isn't that just a matter of course?
In his previous life, when he was working part-time in college, he worked as a helper in a restaurant's kitchen. He was fine, it was just a short-term job to earn money.
Those apprentices who go there to learn a skill have to do odd jobs for half a year before they can touch the chopping board, and cut vegetables for another half a year before they can start to prepare cold dishes. Do you want to learn the real skills of hot dishes? Just work your way through it!
If you go to learn a skill, you don't have to pay any money, but you have to work hard. There is no free benefit in this world, and there is no reward without hard work. He firmly believes this.
There was a reason why Kamiizumi Hidekawa wanted to take in a disciple.
He is the orthodox successor of Shinkage-ryu - his surname is the best proof of this. In the Japanese kendo world, when mentioning the surname Kamiizumi, one has to mention the founder of Shinkage-ryu, Kamiizumi Ise-no-kami, who was revered as a sword saint during the Warring States Period - Kamiizumi Nobutsuna.
He was the swordsman who was given the title of "the best in the world" by the general of the time, Ashikaga Yoshiteru.
Looking at the ancient Japanese kendo, it is mainly divided into three schools - Itto-ryu, Shinto-ryu, and Yin-ryu, and Shin-ryu is the most prosperous school in Yin-ryu.
When he was young, Kamiizumi Nobunaga served the Uesugi family during the Warring States Period and taught spearmanship as an instructor.
Coincidentally, Uesugi Kiyoshi's ancestors were samurai. It's not a lie. If he counted along the family tree back to the Warring States Period, he could actually be related to the famous general known as the "Dragon of Echigo".
The "Uesugi family swordsmanship" he learned in his childhood was actually the swordsmanship experience of the swordsmanship master Kamiizumi Nobunaga when he was young, which was similar to the later Shinkage-ryu.
Kamiizumi Hidekawa could tell at a glance that the young man was learning the orthodox Shinkage-ryu sword technique.
There are thousands of kendo schools in Japan. For example, the sword master Kamiizumi Nobutsuna once had a disciple named Hikita Bungoro, who was his nephew. Hikita Bungoro was recognized by his master. After he became a master, he added his own understanding to Shinkage-ryu, and it became a new school that was derived from Shinkage-ryu but with different details. At this time, he could establish his new school and named his new school Hikita Bungoro.
Similarly, the famous Yagyu Shinkage-ryu also came from this way.
You can say that Hikita Kagami-ryu and Yagyu Shinkage-ryu were both derived from Shinkage-ryu, but it is inaccurate to say that these three kendo schools are exactly the same.
What Uesugi Kiyoshi studied was the book of military tactics passed down by the swordsman Uesugi Nobunaga in his early years, which was the most orthodox Shinkage-ryu style. No wonder Uesugi Hidekawa was so excited to see the prey. These days, it is really not easy to find a young man with such solid basic skills and who has practiced swordsmanship of his own school.
Letting Uesugi Kiyoshi do odd jobs for three months is just to test his character and morals. As long as he is not very bad, Kamiizumi Hidekawa doesn't mind accepting him as a disciple.
He felt that it was a great fate and arrangement by God to meet Uesugi Kiyoshi, who had learned the orthodox Shinkage-ryu. The Japanese believe in this very much.
As a result, after Uesugi Kiyoshi had only been doing odd jobs for a week, Kamiizumi Hidekawa couldn't hold back anymore - the more he looked at this kid, the more he liked him!
There is no doubt that Uesugi Kiyoshi has both the foundation and talent in kendo. His natural aptitude in kendo is inherently stronger than that of ordinary people, and he has also received systematic training from his father. It is not an exaggeration to call him a kendo genius.
In addition, he has the cheats of Mirage. He can go back to Mirage and ponder every move he learns for several hours until he fully understands it. He learns much faster than ordinary geniuses.
Adding the two together, you get a hard-working genius, the kind of person who could be the protagonist in a comic.
In addition, as a second-generation man, he had a mature personality, was very respectful to his teachers, enjoyed doing odd jobs, and was very respectful to Kamiizumi Hidekawa. He did not have the impetuousness and self-righteousness of a young man of his age, which made Kamiizumi Hidekawa have a very good impression of Uesugi Kiyoshi.
Could it be that this is a talented disciple bestowed upon me by God, in whose hands can the Shinkage-ryu be developed and flourished?
Immediately, Kamiizumi Hidekawa decided to accept Uesugi Kiyoshi as his disciple and treated him as his last disciple, training him carefully for a year.
It is no exaggeration to say that in the Japanese kendo world, Hidekawa Kamiizumi is a top-notch and powerful swordsman with strong connections, and he is well connected to both the black and white parties. The Metropolitan Police Department and the Yakuza often invite him to teach swordsmanship - in today's society, the only two professions that can use the technique of killing are the police and the gangsters.
His skills as a teacher and his ability to impart knowledge are naturally excellent.
Therefore, Uesugi Kiyotaka was able to master this powerful swordsmanship that could destroy ghosts and gods in just one year.
Talent, hard work, luck, a good teacher, and a cheating system - none of them can be missing.

Chapter 14 Kamiizumi Rin
When crossing Shiba Park, Uesugi Kiyoshi stopped.
Shiba Park is located near the dojo of Hidekawa Kamiizumi. It is one of the oldest parks in Tokyo. Tokyo Tower can be clearly seen from here. It is a great place for many residents in Minato Ward to visit.
It is now around four o'clock in the afternoon - Haicheng Middle School finishes school at 3:30 in the afternoon, and the rest of the time is for club activities.
At this time, there were already many elderly people and children playing and walking in Shiba Park, as well as scattered groups of high school students in high school uniforms gathering in groups of three or five.
The reason why Uesugi Kiyoshi stopped was because he saw an acquaintance.
On a large lawn not far away, there were many children who looked to be middle school or elementary school students, each holding a wooden sword or bamboo sword, practicing sword moves in an orderly manner.
Uesugi Kiyoshi could tell at a glance that they were practicing the Shinkage-ryu's sword form - although they were all based on the ordinary nine forms of ancient swordsmanship, the Shinkage-ryu's sword form was obviously different from that of other schools, and an expert could tell the difference at a glance.
In front of the formation of the Boy Scouts stood a beautiful figure.
She was wearing a very formal black and white kendo uniform, wooden clogs, and holding a wooden sword. She was like an ancient sword master, leading the movements of the group of little kids, shouting out in unison from time to time, and her moves were very methodical and standardized.
"cold!"
Uesugi Kiyoshi raised his voice slightly and greeted.
When the girl in the kendo uniform heard someone calling her name, she twitched her ears alertly, turned her head and looked around, and immediately found Uesugi Kiyoshi. She cheered, and without caring about her group of boy scouts, she trotted and jumped to the side of Uesugi Kiyoshi, revealing an innocent smile that was full of youth and liveliness, which made her already beautiful face even more charming.
To be honest, Uesugi Kiyoshi didn't feel there was anything charming about the girl. Maybe they were too familiar with each other and he understood the person's personality. He just felt that the girl in front of him was like a big husky acting silly.
"Qing, you're here~"
"I'm hungry, do you have anything to eat?!"
Uesugi Kiyoshi smiled helplessly, took out a few pieces of candy and chocolate from his trouser pocket and handed them over - these were the sugars he kept to replenish his body after practicing swordsmanship, in order to avoid exhaustion. However, every time he came here, most of them would be taken away by the girl in front of him. After a year, he had gotten used to it.
The girl in the kendo uniform is named Rin Kamiizumi. She is a beautiful girl with a beauty and figure that can be rated over 90 points. She is also the master of Uesugi Kiyoshi and the only daughter of Uesugi Hidekawa. It's just that Uesugi Kiyoshi started learning a little late. If he had become a disciple of Uesugi Kengo since he was a child, this might be his childhood sweetheart. The following plot is that they fall in love with each other over time, and then marry into the Uesugi family, inherit the family business, and save decades of struggle in life.
But after Uesugi Kiyoshi's mind had matured, it was difficult for him to have romantic feelings for the girl in front of him, even though they were already very familiar with each other.
His feelings towards Rin Kamiizumi are more of a love for the whole family. Hidekawa Kamiizumi taught him and answered his questions, and his kindness was as great as a mountain. Naturally, he also took good care of his master's daughter and had a very high tolerance. If anyone dared to attack Rin Kamiizumi, he would be the first one to rush forward with a sword in hand. This was more like a responsibility.
Although Uesugi Kiyoshi has never been in a relationship, he has a clear view on choosing a partner.
What he wants is a girl who is as outstanding as himself, gentle and considerate, like the Yamato Nadeshiko, as his partner for the rest of his life.
When I am struggling, she will silently support me behind my back. When I am frustrated, her arms will be the peaceful harbor for me to lick my wounds.
Well, it would be better if you were prettier and had a better figure.
That’s about it.
The requirements may be a bit high, but Uesugi Kiyoshi doesn't think it is excessive - he has worked hard and strived to become an excellent person, so naturally he has to make the most important vow in his life with equally excellent people, otherwise what is the point of his efforts?
Rin Kamiizumi may only have a little in common with the image of his perfect wife: she is pretty and has a nice figure, that's all.
To put it nicely, her character is naive; to put it bluntly, she is heartless. There are only three things in life that interest her: eating, playing, and practicing swordsmanship. Her greatest pleasure now is to teach a group of children nearby to practice swordsmanship in Shiba Park after school every day. After seeing Rin Kamiizumi's swordsmanship, those children were amazed and their reputation was boosted by her. They all came to participate in Rin Kamiizumi's kendo training obediently. At this time every day in Shiba Park, rain or shine, there will be a wonderful sight of a girl leading a group of scouts to practice swordsmanship. Many people are no longer surprised.
This is definitely not a good wife.
Rin Kamiizumi excitedly took the candies and chocolates, and couldn't wait to peel one and put it in her mouth. She smiled sweetly with her eyebrows curved, chewed with her mouth bulging, and mumbled something incoherent to Uesugi Kiyoshi.
"Ah, it's milk candy. This brand of milk candy is my favorite."
"Thank you, Qing!"
"Are you going to the dojo? Dad asked me to mop the floor, but I also want to teach Ichitaro, Nitaro, and Santaro how to practice swordsmanship. Can Qing help me mop the floor?"
"Dad, what a fool! The dojo isn't dirty, so why does he have to mop it every day? I haven't even checked their homework yet!"
Rin Kamiizumi suddenly remembered the training assigned by her father and frowned in distress, but then she looked at Uesugi Kiyoshi with expectant eyes, almost showing little stars.
Uesugi Qing naturally would not refuse such a simple favor. He nodded readily. He had done a lot of odd jobs and was very skilled at it. Mopping the floor was not a big deal.
"Okay, go ahead and have fun, but remember to get back to the dojo before six. I have to go home at six, and the master won't be able to see you then, so watch out for your butt!"
After receiving Uesugi Kiyoshi's promise, Rin Kamiizumi smiled happily and waved her hand nonchalantly.
"I know, I know. It's great to have Qing here."
She excitedly patted Uesugi Kiyoshi's shoulder, expressing her joy and gratitude, then cleverly snatched the remaining candies and chocolates from Uesugi Kiyoshi's hands, turned around and ran away like the wind.
Soon, the young girl teacher's shouting in an orderly manner was heard on the lawn again.
Uesugi Kiyoshi touched his shoulder with a grin, his expression helpless - Uesugi Rin was a freak, she had been extremely strong since she was young. In terms of strength alone, he, a time traveler with the Mirage plug-in, was no match for this super-strong girl. If someone else had been hit by these blows, he might have been knocked to the ground.
After seeing Kamiizumi Rin excitedly busying himself with his own affairs, Uesugi Kiyoshi withdrew his gaze and slowly continued walking towards the kendo field.
About five minutes later, he turned out of a somewhat hidden alley and arrived at an ancient Japanese-style sword dojo with a single door.
After entering the room, it was empty as expected. At this time, his master should still be meditating and practicing.
He first went to the locker room to change into his kendo uniform and tabi, then went to the utility room to get out a bucket and a rag, and spent about fifteen minutes skillfully mopping the kendo field. He was in good physical condition, and he did a lot of this work, so he was very good at it. He mopped the floor quickly and well, and it was shiny.
Afterwards, he looked at the fruits of his labor and nodded with satisfaction. He tidied up his belongings, held the ebony sword in one hand, and stood quietly in the center of the kendo field, falling into a state of meditation.
