038 Defense Against the Dark Arts

A sudden thick fog obscured Harry's vision.

The whole classroom turned white, and Harry couldn't even see Ron sitting next to him.

The screams of students in the classroom made Harry unable to judge what was happening around him.

This is absolutely the worst possible scenario.

As Harry pulled out the wand from his robes, he called upon the power of light in his body and activated the aura of courage.

I hope to calm down the people around me so that I can judge the current situation.

Just as Harry held his wand on alert.

Suddenly, a few more "Bang! Bang!" sounds were heard in the classroom.

As a strong wind suddenly blew in the classroom, the fog that originally covered the entire classroom was blown out of the classroom in an instant.

At this time, Professor Quirrell, wearing a neat black robe, stood in the middle of the classroom with his wand in hand and open arms.

In the warm autumn sun outside the window, Professor Quirrell's bald head shone brightly.

"Welcome, welcome to the Defense Against the Dark Arts class. Don't panic, this was just a small test."

Professor Quirrell was like a stage actor, explaining to those who had not yet realized what was happening.

The students, who were either huddled together or cowering under the table in shock, bowed slightly.

"As you know, the name of this course is Defense Against the Dark Arts. In theory, I should teach you how to defend against dark magic."

Quirrell paced around the classroom as he spoke.

"But there is no perfect defense against the Dark Arts in the world. All I can teach you is to stay vigilant at all times, just like Mr. Potter and Mr. Malfoy did."

As he said this, Quirrell just walked up to Harry and Draco.

Quirrell raised his hand and pointed at Harry and Draco.

"In the test just now, only Mr. Potter and Mr. Malfoy took out their wands to protect themselves. Let's give them a round of applause, and Gryffindor, six points!"

When Professor Quirrell began to applaud, Harry noticed that although Ron had his wand out, he had shrunk under the table.

Hermione, who had been sitting in the same row with him, was nowhere to be seen.

After a burst of sparse applause broke out in the classroom.

"Now please return to your seats."

Professor Quirrell walked to the podium and watched the frightened students return to their seats with confused looks on their faces.

After taking out his wand and tapping the blackboard, the words 'Basic Principles of Defense Against the Dark Arts' appeared on the blackboard.

"Before we learn Defense Against the Dark Arts, we must first know what the Dark Arts are."

Professor Quirrell rested his hands on the podium and looked at the students below.

"Does anyone know what black magic is?"

It seemed that they had not yet recovered from what had just happened, and for a moment the classroom fell into a strange silence.

"No one knows? Surely one of you can answer that question."

Professor Quirrell at the podium had a playful smile on his face.

"The most famous person among us, the only one to survive the Killing Curse, Harry Potter~"

Professor Quirrell looked at Harry expectantly.

"I think you can answer this question, right?"

When Harry looked up at Professor Quirrell at the podium, he couldn't help but think of Ron's accusations against him and his contact with Professor Quirrell in the past few days.

The Quirrell who was now speaking on the podium like a TV host was not at all like the silent Professor Quirrell who took him to the dungeon to assemble dolls the night before, but they were completely different people.

"I'm sorry, Professor."

Facing Professor Quirrell's expectant eyes, Harry put on a slightly apologetic smile.

"I know nothing about the Dark Arts except that anyone who uses them will be sent to Azkaban."

Harry saw the look of undisguised disappointment in Professor Quirrell's eyes.

"Well, it seems that not everyone deserves his title."

Professor Quirrell waved his wand, and the words "Dark Arts" were reduced to nothing but "Fundamentals of Defense Against the Dark Arts" on the blackboard.

"Dark magic~ is different from ordinary magic. It is like a dragon, beautiful and dangerous."

Professor Quirrell's tone at this moment was like that of an actor singing an aria.

"Dark magic is diverse, varied, and endless."

"To fight them is like fighting a many-headed monster. As soon as you cut off one head, a new one pops up, more vicious and cunning than the original one. You are facing something unpredictable and indestructible."

"All powerful wizards in history are also masters of the Dark Arts. It can be said that the Dark Arts are the only way for a wizard to become a master of magic. I dare say that even Dumbledore knows and can perform a lot of Dark Arts."

"If you want to be a powerful wizard, then you must not miss the opportunity to learn the dark arts."

Having said this, Quirrell suddenly changed the subject and his voice dropped several octaves.

"But if you want to become a great wizard through dark magic, then the only advice I can give you is... never perform dark magic!"

"Because the most special thing about black magic is that the consequences of performing black magic cannot be eliminated."

"The biggest difference between performing black magic and white magic is that the caster also needs to pay a price, and these prices are irreversible."

Professor Quirrell waved his wand and dozens of photos flew out from the cabinets in the classroom.

The wizards in these photos look like evil spirits crawling out of hell.

When these evil ghost-like wizards saw the students in the classroom, they all showed crazy expressions and waved their hands wildly as if they were about to jump out of the photo in the next second.

These photos of terrifying wizards once again caused screams in the classroom.

"These photos are from the Wizengamot. The people in the photos are wizards who were imprisoned in Azkaban for abusing the dark arts."

"And these..."

Quirrell waved his wand again, and another batch of photos flew out of the cabinet.

This time, the people in these photos looked much more normal, and there were even quite a few handsome men and beautiful women among them.

"This is what they looked like before they learned and used the Dark Arts."

Professor Quirrell put the two batches of photos together.

Even Harry, a seasoned adventurer, felt that the cost of using dark magic was too high.

"This is the first rule of Defense Against the Dark Arts. Never abuse the dark magic."

Professor Quirrell tapped the blackboard again.

After the word "black magic" on the blackboard, two arrows pointing up and down appeared.

"And now, let's get into the official course of Defense Against the Dark Arts and let's learn some dark arts."

039 Never learn the black magic

After seeing those photos, I heard that Professor Quirrell wanted to teach me the dark arts.

A voice of surprise was heard again in the classroom.

The expressions on almost all the students' faces were as if Professor Quirrell was not going to teach them the dark arts, but to perform dark magic on them.

Looking at the horror on the students' faces, Professor Quirrell smiled pleasantly.

"Very good. It seems that you all remember the dangers of the dark arts. I hope that you can remember how you feel now when you face the temptation of the dark arts in the future."

Hearing Professor Quirrell's words, the students below the podium all breathed a sigh of relief.

Just when Harry felt that Professor Quirrell was just reinforcing their memory.

Professor Quirrell, who was standing on the podium, waved his wand, and the words "curse", "poison spell" and "curse" appeared above and below the arrows drawn on the blackboard.

"But now we really need to learn some dark arts."

Professor Quirrell tapped the blackboard with his wand again.

A string of letters appeared after the words "evil curse", "poisonous curse" and "curse" on the blackboard.

"According to Wilbert Slinka, the author of Magical Defense Theory, which is your textbook, curse-breaking spells and counter-curses are just another name for curses, but they sound more acceptable to people."

At this point Professor Quirrell had an expression on his face that Harry knew very well.

This expression is often seen on Captain Evil's face, when he shows this expression and says "Guys, I have a plan."

Harry knew that he would definitely see some scenes that were too exciting for a paladin.

So most of the time, Harry chose to close his eyes.

The rest of the time, Harry chose to put the sword to Captain Evil's neck.

Harry showed his disapproval through his actions. Dear Captain, please reorganize your words.

Sure enough, Professor Quirrell's next speech reminded Harry of the original feeling.

"But I don't agree with Mr. Slinka's statement, or in other words, he is talking nonsense that is misleading!"

Quirrell slammed the table hard.

There was a loud "bang", and the students in the classroom trembled with fear.

"Dark magic includes most of the commonly used personal defense spells. For example, the anti-apparition spell that is always used in Hogwarts is a type of dark magic."

"The commonly used black magic classification standard divides black magic into three levels."

Quirrell pointed his wand at the curse on the blackboard.

"The evil curse is the one with the least negative effects among all the black magic. It usually only causes slight discomfort to the victim, such as adding a little pimple to the face of your annoying classmate."

"Its effects can usually be defended or eliminated through counter-jinxes, jinx-breaking spells, etc."

"This is also the limit that our dear Mr. Slinka can accept. In your textbooks, you can find many antidotes for this level of black magic."

Quirrell raised the book "Magical Defense Theory" in his hand.
