Chapter Ninety-Six

“Okay, if I really am going to the Metropolis, is there anything I need to prepare?” Wang Baixi continued his conversation with Tim.

"First, you need to bring a change of clothes. Second, you need to bring a credit card. Oh, and it's best to slip a few batarangs into your belt."

Isn't the metropolis very safe?

“It’s definitely safer than Gotham.” Tim’s smile faded as he stood up from his swivel chair. “Come with me to the armory.”

Tim led Wang Baixi toward the armory. He pressed the hidden fingerprint lock on the wall, and the metal door slid open to the sides, revealing a small armory inside, illuminated by cold white light.

He took a small lead box from the armory, held it in his hands, and when he turned to face Wang Baixi, his expression had become unusually serious.

"You need to take this."

"What is this?"

"Something you must take very good care of; if you lose it, Batman will hunt you down for the rest of your life."

"Is it really that exaggerated?"

"It can only get more outrageous."

After saying that, Tim opened the lead box.

On a black velvet cushion lay a ring. The ring was very simple in design, without any patterns or inscriptions, but the gemstone set in the center of the ring emitted a faint green fluorescence under the armory lights.

Holy crap, could this be?!

"Could this be a lamp ring?"

"..." Tim blinked, a hint of helplessness in his eyes. "No, this is a kryptonite ring."

Wang Baixi remained silent for a moment.

"Batman keeps a kryptonite ring in his armory."

"In fact, there is more than one."

"Okay, I guess he probably has a big box of these. Do you guys bring this stuff with you every time you go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art?"

“Of course. But now, I have to tell you how to use it.” Tim closed the lead box and handed it to Wang Baixi, saying solemnly, “First, don’t keep it open for too long. Second, don’t get too close to Superman under normal circumstances, even though this special lead box can absorb most of the radiation. This thing is for emergencies, not for showing off.”

Wang Baixi looked down at the lead box in his hand, and was filled with emotion.

To be honest, Bruce doesn't even trust Superman, so how could he trust himself? The more he thought about it, the more chills ran down his spine. What kind of micro-bomb could that taciturn Gotham Knight have planted inside him?

That's how it's portrayed in movies.

Tim seemed to read his mind and gently patted his shoulder. "Don't worry, King, Bruce is much more forgiving of you than he is of himself."

"...Are you sure you're trying to comfort me?"

"It's true."

Tim then pulled out several more items from the armory and stuffed them one by one into Wang Baixi's backpack.

"And then, most importantly, this."

Tim handed him a small, sealed box containing several neatly arranged specimen bottles. Each bottle contained several dead insects, including spiders, centipedes, and a few beetles whose species he couldn't identify. They all carried some kind of pathogen.

"Following your usual practice, I'll freeze you to death beforehand. Once you get to the Metropolis, carry two bottles with you; you know what to do in an emergency."

"You've thought of everything, but I can only revive things that died within the last three hours. Anyway, thank you." Wang Baixi put the sealed box into the side pocket of his backpack.

“And this too.” Tim handed over a compact grappling hook gun with the Wayne Corporation logo engraved on the handle. “It has a slightly shorter range than the standard model, but it’s small enough to fit in a briefcase. I trust your proficiency with grappling hook guns.”

“I believe it too,” Wang Baixi said, both amused and exasperated, “but is Metropolis really that dangerous?”

"Each has its own dangers. Gotham's danger is that someone might shoot you in the street, while Metropolis's danger is that an alien might suddenly fall from the sky and smash the entire building on your head. Personally, I think Gotham is slightly better."

"Then you might as well stay in Gotham forever," Wang Baixi teased.

"I'll think about it."

……

Twenty minutes later.

Wang Baixi and Tim emerged from the Bat Cave, ascended the spiral staircase, and pushed open the hidden door to return to the main house of Wayne Manor.

Afternoon tea was already laid out on the round table by the window on the east side of the living room. Alfred sat in the head seat, holding his ever-shiny silver teapot, refilling Zatanna's cup with black tea. Zatanna had changed out of her dark blue trench coat today, wearing a loose beige cardigan, while Meatball was curled up on her lap, dozing off.

Cassandra sat next to Zatana, holding a teacup with a piece of Scottish shortbread between her fingers. She wasn't eating; she seemed to be lost in thought.

"Gentlemen, would you mind if we joined us?" Wang Baixi pulled out a chair and sat down, casually taking a scone from the porcelain plate.

“Of course I don’t mind.” Zatana smiled and put the teacup back on the saucer. “You must have gained something from your little meeting in the Bat Cave.”

"We wouldn't call it a success, but we do have a new plan." Wang Baixi took a bite of his scone and said vaguely, "To put it simply, I know where Poison Ivy is. She's in Metropolis. So I plan to go there and finish this quickly."

"A quick victory?"

“There’s nothing we can do. Metropolis is Superman’s territory after all. We Gothamites can’t make a big fuss when we go there to do things,” Tim added from the side.

"Don't make it sound like we're dealing with warlordism. We're partners of justice, not gangsters," Wang Baixi complained.

"Your Majesty, you are the least qualified to say that."

"Alright, alright, let's not talk about that now. Now, I need someone to help me," Wang Baixi continued. "Miss Zatana, Cassandra, which of you would be interested in coming to the Metropolis with me?"

Zatana picked up her teacup and took a sip. "You just need someone to protect you, don't you?"

"That's really hurtful. I can protect myself."

“Actually,” Tim interjected seriously, “this is my request. As before, we need someone to keep an eye on this guy and make sure he doesn’t do anything bad in Metropolis.”

Cassandra, who had been listening silently, raised her hand.

Wang Baixi was speechless. "Hey, you get all excited as soon as you mention supervising me, huh?"

Cassandra didn't answer, but instead made a face at him. Wang Baixi found the expression both cute and infuriating, but Zatana saw a deeper meaning in it.

“In that case, I’ll go with you. I don’t have any performances lately anyway. If you run into any magical trouble, having me along will be an extra layer of protection,” Zatana said with a smile.

"Then it's settled. Pack your things and head to the Metropolis immediately."

"What about the meat pie?" Zatana pointed to the black cat that was still snoring on her lap.

“Let Alfred take care of it. There’s no one more suitable to take care of the cat in the entire Wayne Manor,” Wang Baixi said.

Unfortunately, unlike Hedwig, it can't return to its lair on its own.

Meanwhile, Alfred placed the silver teapot back on the tray, a slight smile playing on his lips. "It's my honor to serve Miss Zatanna. However, more than the cat, I think Mr. Wang should be concerned about transportation right now. Would you like me to arrange a private jet for you?"

Private jet? Metropolitan isn't far from Gotham, isn't that a bit too extravagant?

“That would be perfect,” Wang Baixi replied without hesitation.

Yes, that's exactly what I want – luxury.

"Also, I'll call Mr. Perry White, the editor-in-chief of the Daily Planet, right away, and I'll help you schedule an appointment for the last two hours before he leaves work," Alfred added.

"Alfred, you're always so thoughtful. I'm so lucky to have you." Wang Baixi gave a thumbs up.

"It is my honor."

Tim stood up, yawned, and said, "Alright, I won't go with you guys. I have to go back to the Batcave to keep an eye on that little crocodile."

"If Killer Croc remembers anything, notify us immediately. I don't want to have worked for nothing."

"Don't worry, Wang, you just need to believe that going to the Metropolitan will definitely give you an unforgettable experience."

Chapter Ninety-Seven Planet Daily

The Daily Planet's headquarters are located in the New Troy district of Metropolis. When the huge golden globe on the rooftop gleamed in the afternoon sun, they knew they had come to the right place.

Wang Baixi took a car from the nearest helipad to the building entrance, looking at the globe, with only one thought in his mind:

This place is even more extravagant than the Wayne Group headquarters.

He absolutely must go back and get one for the company too!

It's just not gold; gold is too tacky...

"Hey, King, what are you thinking about?" Zatana woke him up.

"Oh, I'm wondering how to greet Mr. Perry," Wang Baixi said with an awkward smile.

At that moment, he was wearing a lead-gray suit, with Zatana on his left arm and Cassandra carrying a briefcase behind him. He didn't look like a young man with flamboyant ideas, but rather a proper businessman.

And what about his two female companions? Zatana had changed into a white shirt with a dark blue pencil skirt, her long hair loosely tied back, making her look both professional and elegant. Cassandra, on the other hand, wore a sharp black suit and black-rimmed glasses, looking like a young consultant who had just graduated from business school.

Yes, it's the same familiar setup. Only this time, they're not meeting the court's leader.

As soon as they walked in, they introduced themselves, which immediately attracted a lot of attention. The receptionist almost immediately dialed the internal phone of the editor-in-chief's office upon hearing the words "Wayne Group".

They were then led into the elevator. Zatana checked her makeup in the elevator mirror, then suddenly turned to Wang Baixi and said, "Wang, a rich man, a female celebrity, and a female assistant, don't you think this combination is too conspicuous?"

“Hmm, you’re right,” Wang Baixi thought for a moment with an air of seriousness. “To be precise, we shouldn’t call them female stars, we should call them ‘magic superstars.’ As for whether we’re conspicuous or not, this is Metropolis, Superman is the superstar. Nobody will care about us, relax.”

“That makes sense.” Zatana looked at him with a smile.

"arrive."

The elevator doors opened with a ding, and the unique atmosphere of the editorial office wafted out, seemingly more vibrant than in Gotham.

"I'm going to have a word with Mr. Perry. You all wait for me nearby."

At Wang Baixi's instruction, Zatana grabbed a free coffee from the break room, while Cassandra leaned against the wall, quietly observing every face in the editorial department.

Wang Baixi walked past the desks, wondering: Where is that familiar person?

I don't know if he's had any "facial deformities" done, but he can't really fake it just by looking at his eyes.

Finally, he saw it.
