Does even he feel cold?
“Well, actually, I think it’s a good thing, Victor, after all, we have a few pieces of Amber Gold.”
"With Batman, right?"
“No, it’s not here. We used it to do something better, you won’t believe it,” Wang Baixi said with a smile.
"Gentlemen, may I interrupt? Who is this person?" Zatana also walked to the freezer and looked curiously at the distorted face inside.
“He is the claw of the Court of Owls and a member of the Court Council. Another man of equal renown is locked in the Batcave, and another is right here. I intend to use him to launch a final attack on the Court. Only by sweeping out the holdouts entrenched underground can my plan be carried out.”
“I see,” Zatana said after a long silence, then suddenly turned to Victor. “Mr. Victor, may I give it a try?”
"Try what?"
"Didn't you say he's frost-resistant? I want to see if his frost resistance can withstand my freezing magic."
Victor glanced at her, his eyes devoid of provocation. "Suit yourself, girl. But no matter how powerful your magic is, no one in this field can compare to me."
Zatana smiled slightly, raised her right hand, and a beam of light, almost purple blue, shot towards Clark.
"Stop freezing!"
The originally smooth surface of the freezing column expanded instantly, forming ice spikes, like ice crystal flowers exploding from the inside.
Clark's roar stopped abruptly; his lips were still open, but the arrogant expression on his face had been completely frozen.
Zatana lowered her hands, seemingly satisfied with her performance.
"By the way, I can also help him defrost. Want me to try?"
Are you challenging me?
For some reason, Zatana's unintentional remark ignited Victor's competitive spirit, and he placed his hand directly on the grip of the freeze gun.
"Come on, girl, I'll freeze someone, and you can thaw them. Let's see if your thawing magic is faster or my freeze gun is faster."
"Come on, come on."
"Aren't you two childish!" Wang Baixi stepped between the two of them. "The most important question now is: how to deal with the Court of Owls."
“I don’t care about the court.” Victor released his hand from the gun handle. “I only care about the freezing magic… and Nora.”
Wang Baixi sighed and patted Victor on the shoulder. "Alright, let's put the damn freezing magic and the court behind us and see Nora first."
After saying that, he looked at Zatana and forced a smile at her. "Come on, Zatana, don't you want to see how I perform the resurrection spell? However, the case of Mr. Freeze's wife is quite rare. Before welcoming the new life, we need to welcome 'death'."
Chapter Seventy-Five: Inside the Bat Cave
Inside the Batcave, Dick sat in the swivel chair of the Batcomputer, dressed in casual clothes, holding a cup of black tea, his eyes fixed on Batman, who was engrossed in his work.
"Do you think Zatana and Wang Boxi can get along well?" he asked.
"They'll be here soon, you can ask them yourself."
Batman was modifying the equipment slots on his belt at his workbench when he heard the question, and his hands paused briefly.
"Please, you know what I mean. I mean a different kind of 'coexistence'."
“Zatana will fulfill her duties, and Wang Boxi will treat this as a job. I believe that neither of them will overstep their bounds.”
"Your answer is too official."
"All my answers are based on reliable estimates."
"Based on intuition?"
"Based on intuition."
The main problem is that Zatana is too "old"!
He and Zatana were of the same generation, and he was at least ten years older than Wang Baixi. According to the mating standards of the animal kingdom, males tend to mate with females of similar age...
Wait, what is he thinking?!
None of that matters!
Dick's lips curled into a smile. "I still think that two magicians together might develop feelings for each other over time."
Batman looked up, and on his perpetually expressionless face, two beams of light pierced directly into Dick's eyes.
What's wrong with this guy today? He's acting all serious!
“Pretend I didn’t say anything.” Dick raised his hands in surrender.
Then, footsteps came from the direction of the training field.
Tim Drake and Cassandra walked back along the metal corridor of the Batcave. Cassandra walked ahead, wearing the unfinished, still-painted new Batgirl suit, her forehead covered in sweat, but her breathing was rhythmic. Tim followed behind, panting much more heavily than her.
“Cassandra’s physical condition is even better than I thought.” Tim took off his mask, brushed his sweat-dampened hair back, and looked wearily at Nightwing, who was still sitting in front of the computer.
Batman, who was not far away, also stopped what he was doing. He walked to the center of the training field, told Tim to go and rest first, and took over his task.
“Cassandra, come with me.”
Cassandra tightened the wristbands again.
Her intensive training has only just begun, and includes basic physical fitness tests, tactical movement correction, memorization of communication protocols, and emergency evacuation drills. Batman is the head instructor of this training program.
He trained Cassandra according to the standards used to train the previous Robins and Batgirls, because he saw the girl's potential in them.
Meanwhile, Tim and Nightwing, who had removed their masks, stood aside, contentedly serving as spectators. As people who had undergone Bat-style training, they were well aware of the difficulties involved.
Batman and Cassandra stood face to face. Cassandra made the first move, feinting an attack with her left hand towards his mask, but then withdrew her right fist halfway through. She then lowered her center of gravity and swept her leg towards his ankle.
Batman took a half step back to avoid the sweeping kick, and just as her kick was about to give way, he stretched out his leg and pressed down on her instep. Cassandra used the momentum to spin and break free of the suppression, then swung her hand at his collarbone, only to have it parried once again.
“Your moves are too predictable,” Batman said, taking a step back. “Again!”
Cassandra had no choice but to readjust her breathing and attack again.
"Timothy," Dick, who had been quietly watching the game, suddenly called out to Tim, "Cassandra doesn't seem to be doing too well. Do you think she's still thinking about Wang Baixi?"
"What do you mean by that?" Tim asked, puzzled.
"I was just talking to Batman about whether Zatanna and Wang Baixi might develop a romantic relationship, and he completely ignored me. But then I remembered: Cassandra was there when he announced it, and I remember her expression was really strange. What do you think?"
“Dick,” Tim squinted at Dick, who perfectly embodied the playboy archetype, “have you been getting into trouble with some unwanted women lately?”
Otherwise, why would he make that connection?
Dick's expression froze for a moment, then he decisively shook his head. "No."
"So, it was one of your ex-girlfriends who asked you to meet up?"
“Well, actually, a friend asked me to meet her. Her name is Lajavestri, a friend I met at the circus.”
"A friend from the circus?" Tim asked in surprise.
“Yes, we haven’t seen each other for many years. She contacted me through Alfred and said that the Harry Circus was planning a memorial performance about the Flying Grayson family and wanted me to come and see it. After all, how could a memorial performance be without the Graysons?”
"But didn't Captain Harry die?" Although Tim wasn't there at the time, he had heard about what happened.
“Yes, but who knew that Harley would designate me to inherit the entire circus in his will, so the activities must continue.” Dick’s tone was quite complicated.
"So, you inherited a circus? That's much more troublesome than Wayne Enterprises."
Dick sighed. "Of course, Mr. Joshua is managing Wayne Corporation now, but what about the circus? Not only is it entangled with the Court of Owls, but I also have no similar management experience."
"I do have a recommendation."
"Who?"
On the training field, Cassandra had just been thrown to the ground by Batman using his momentum, and was lying on the mat panting, covered in sweat.
“Wang Baixi,” Tim said.
Nightwing looked at the girl who was getting up from the ground, then turned his gaze back to Tim with gentle eyes.
"You're quite the thinker, but there's definitely a possibility. His mind is full of all sorts of earth-shattering plans. Don't even mention the circus; he's already taken over the nightclubs. Who knows what else he'll do?"
"Whatever he does, we have to keep an eye on him. His abilities are highly sought after, just like his close monitoring of all sectors of Gotham. Many people are also eyeing him. Miss Zatanna is not only there to supervise him, but also to protect his Dick. I think that's why Batman doesn't want to deal with you. This matter is much more serious than we think."
“I understand, Tim, of course I understand.” Dick’s tone suddenly became heavy.
Not far away, Cassandra stood up again, stretched her shoulders, and assumed a fighting stance once more. This stubborn posture reminded Dick Grayson of the second Robin, Jason Todd.
Barring any unforeseen circumstances, his tombstone in the Middle East will be next to his mother's. That is undoubtedly the most unforgettable scar in Batman's life. Even the deaths of his parents did not cause him such guilt.
“Be careful, Batman, don’t hurt her,” Dick yelled to Batman.
Batman ignored Dick and glanced at Cassandra indifferently: "Now do it again, let me see if your feints are any better."
Cassandra remained silent, then feinted with her right shoulder, quickly lowering her center of gravity and delivering a powerful sweeping kick that slammed Batman onto the training mat.
"Well done." Batman said, his voice unusually tinged with satisfaction.
Dick took in all of this. "Hey, Jason and I didn't seem to get that kind of gentle treatment from him back then."
Tim laughed and said, "Although I've never met Jason, I guess he would agree with you if he were here."
"Then it's better if he's not there."
What would he think if he found out Batman had a new Robin? What would he think if he knew the Joker wasn't dead? Should they leave the battered boy there and not let anyone else disturb him?
Dick Grayson struggled to provide an answer. The ability to bring the dead back to life was undoubtedly terrifying. As Tim said, the villains' ambitions were already burgeoning. But what about the so-called righteous people? Could they really suppress their own thoughts?
The patriarch of the Bat family could not forget his adopted son, and the last member of the Grayson family could not forget his parents who had died tragically.
Dick couldn't bear to bring up these sad topics of separation by death. With the appearance of Wang Baixi, did people get a chance to redeem the past, or did they open Pandora's box?
He was too lazy to think about it anymore. Now he only had one task: pack his bags and see his old friends one last time before returning to Brudhaven. As for the Harry Circus...
Perhaps entrusting it to Wang Baixi is actually a good idea.
