"Someone insignificant. The Penguin kidnapped me because I swallowed his nightclub. What about you? How did you get kidnapped?"

"Ha... The Harry Circus was planning to perform back in Gotham, so I came back to check out the venue, but I was stopped by their people before I even got into the city."

"Is it really that simple? So the reason they kidnapped you was really just to steal your circus?"

“Maybe,” Harry sighed, “I don’t understand why anyone would still care so much about a circus that’s long gone. There are many circuses in the world that are younger and more vibrant than ours.”

"There's nothing we can do. The person who's eyeing you all just happens to be a madman." Wang Baixi gestured with his chin toward the clown, who was sitting on the carousel grinning foolishly. "Madmen don't need reasons to do things."

“Perhaps it was my destiny to meet this group of lunatics.” Ha stared blankly at the warehouse ceiling with his one unswollen eye. “This is what they call karma.”

"retribution?"

Why is there metaphysics involved?

“Many years ago, I did something bad, and I know very well that I will eventually pay the price for it.”

Wang Baixi leaned closer to Harry, "What bad thing happened?"

Then something suddenly clicked in his mind.

Harry's Circus? Bad news?

Isn't Nightwing from Harry's Circus? Could it be...?

"You weren't behind the Graysons' deaths, were you?"

Harry's body jolted when he heard the name. "How could that be? It was an accident! How could I possibly harm them!"

Before Wang Baixi could ask any further questions, a light round of applause came from the carousel.

"I'll testify! I'll testify!" The clown jumped off the rocking horse, clapping his hands as he walked towards them. "The esteemed Master would never want to see the Graysons get into trouble! Impossible! Absolutely impossible!"

The clown quickened his pace, crouched down in front of Harry, and rested his chin on his hand, assuming a thoughtful pose.

But when Harry saw this, his face quickly darkened.

“Because,” the clown laughed, “he’s waiting to arrest little Grayson and his parents and hand them over to the Court of Owls.”

Court of Owls?

Harry's swollen eye suddenly widened, "You..."

Wang Baixi's ears perked up as well.

“What?” The Joker put his hands on Harry’s shoulders. “You think I don’t know? Everyone knows about the Court of Owls. Who do you think you can fool? Let me tell you what this hypocrite did: After Grayson was adopted by Bruce Wayne, Harry, in order to make up for the Court’s losses, found an innocent boy to take his place. But that boy shouldn’t have had this misfortune, should he?”

Harry didn't answer; he had goosebumps and all he wanted to do was lower his head, as if that would prevent the mistakes he had made from haunting him.

The clown also lost interest in torturing him. He spat and silently looked at Wang Baixi.

"Enough, stop talking about retribution," he glanced down at the fake watch with a smiley face on his wrist. "Wang Baixi, there's still an hour until midnight, but Batman hasn't shown up yet. He hasn't given up on you, has he?"

……

11:30.

The Batmobile is traveling through the city.

For the citizens of Gotham, this is one of the very few times they can see the Batmobile during the day, and Batman does this mainly to deter those who are at large during this special period.

Nightwing, sitting in the passenger seat, glanced out the window. "The last time I sat here was when I called 'Robin'."

"The first time you rode in this car, you threw up the whole way." Batman kept his eyes fixed straight ahead.

"Really? I seem to remember you were the one who made me eat too many hot dogs." Nightwing couldn't help but laugh out loud, leaning back. "Time flies. Robin is now Tim, but your ride is still so... classy."

Batman, his face grim, said, "Are you mocking my taste?"

No, absolutely not.

“I remember when you first saw this car, you said, ‘I want a cool sports car too. Girls are obsessed with sports cars.’”

Nightwing was somewhat speechless.

Is today's theme about memories? Why are there so many firsts?

"So what did you say back then?" Nightwing lowered his voice, mimicking Batman's tone, "'That's why Superman likes to go it alone.' Great Lone Ranger, couldn't you have been a little nicer when you talked to kids?"

Batman didn't respond, because he genuinely had nothing to say.

Nightwing, believing he had successfully shut Batman up, laughed as if he had won a battle.

But after only a second or two of smiling, he suddenly stopped smiling.

"On another note, are you sure we made the right decision? Do we really not need to turn back?"

"Absolutely correct, and undeniably correct."

……

Eleven fifty-eight.

The Penguin had been sitting in the armchair for two whole hours, and those two hours were more agonizing for him than three days in Arkham.

"How much longer until midnight!" he shouted impatiently.

"Two minutes, boss." One of the subordinates checked his phone.

"Two minutes!" The Penguin sprang to his feet, looking around as he discovered the Joker was nowhere to be seen. "Batman didn't come, and the money didn't come! Where the damn Joker is? Where did he go again!"

He paced back and forth in front of the chair three times, then stopped, pointed at Wang Baixi, and cursed, "Look at Batman, he doesn't care about you at all! He'd rather let you die here than pay a single penny!"

"That's about it," Wang Baixi said with a calm smile.

"Ok?"

"I mean, that's about right."

"What do you mean?" the penguin asked warily.

At that very moment, the warehouse's iron gate was smashed into two flying metal panels by the front of a medium-sized refrigerated truck. Penguin instinctively turned around, and one of the smashed metal panels landed heavily on him.

The truck's front end rapidly magnified in his field of vision, and finally, the truck miraculously came to a stop in front of Wang Baixi, with the driver's side door suddenly springing open.

"Penguin, let him go."

The penguin stared wide-eyed, about to speak, when he noticed a few drops of blood flowing from his forehead and immediately fainted.

Immediately afterwards, Mr. Freeze jumped out of the driver's seat, the freeze gun hanging on his waist still emitting white cold air.

He glanced at the people in the warehouse, his gaze lingering on the trembling gun barrels pointed at him.

"I said, let him go."

Chapter Sixty-Seven: Blowing Gotham Up

It was exactly 12 noon.

The Penguin fell backward onto the concrete. After confirming that Mr. Freeze had suddenly appeared and the Joker was gone, he rolled his eyes and pretended to be dead. Mr. Freeze didn't even glance at him, turning his gun back to the Penguin gang.

I don't want to say it a third time.

The henchmen all retreated, and the one in front even threw his gun on the ground.

Just then, a slow, leisurely clapping sound came from deep within the warehouse.

"Quite a few guests today." Suddenly, the clown appeared from behind, a modified revolver in his hand. "Victor, shouldn't you be in the lab with your frozen wife? What are you doing here, acting as a bodyguard for some greenhorn?"

Mr. Freeze didn't reply, but his finger was already on the trigger of the freeze gun.

The whole thing started two hours earlier. Wang Baixi did send a message on his phone, and the content was indeed checked by the Joker, but he never expected the recipient to be Mr. Freeze.

Mr. Freeze was indeed clever; without asking any questions, he informed Batman and then attacked.

After all, Wang Baixi is really important to him.

Meanwhile, the Joker continued to laugh as he looked at the crowd, his attention particularly drawn to the indifferent Mr. Freeze. "Smile, Victor? Actually, if we all kidnap this guy together, we can still achieve your goal."

"Shut up."

"So there's no room for negotiation? Oh well, fine."

Then, the clown quickly put away the revolver and grinned as he pulled a remote detonator from inside his suit.

"Looks like today's kidnapping party will have to end early." The Joker sighed, glancing at the dozen or so Penguin henchmen around him who were still unaware of what was happening. "Gentlemen, I was originally planning to wait for Mr. Penguin to wake up before discussing the escape route with him, but it seems he won't be waking up anytime soon. Since Batman won't come, let's try a different approach: blow this warehouse and everyone inside up into the air. Surely he'll come then?"

"Wait, we're still inside!" one of the henchmen shouted in terror.

"Of course you're in there, otherwise what's the point of this joke?"

With that, the clown pressed the red button on the detonator, but at that very moment, Mr. Freeze's gun went off.

A white ice spike shot from the muzzle of his gun, aimed straight for the Joker's chest. But the Joker reacted faster than anyone expected; he lunged to the side, the ice spike grazing his left shoulder, and the detonator flew from the Joker's hand.

Before the Joker could mourn the detonator that had left him, he pulled out the revolver again in the next second.

"You ruined my party! Victor!" The clown immediately raised his gun and fired back.

boom! boom! boom!

The Joker fired three shots. Mr. Freeze moved slightly and dodged the first two shots by turning to the side, but he couldn't dodge the third bullet. The bullet grazed the barrel of his gun and shattered the thermometer on the side of the barrel.

"Hahaha, is your gun broken?" the clown shouted, laughing as he loaded the bullets.

Mr. Freeze glanced down at the shattered thermometer, then pointed his gun at the Joker again.

Just as the two were fighting, Wang Baixi suddenly called out to a trembling henchman who was about to collapse: "Hey, come over here and help me untie the rope!"

The man was sweating bullets, trying to avoid being caught in the crossfire of the battle between the immortals, while looking at Wang Baixi with fear.

"me……"

"What do you mean, 'I'? Do you even want to live?"

The other party is silent.

"Do you still want your money or not?!"

A determined glint finally flashed in the man's eyes. Ignoring the risk of being hit by a stray bullet, he went straight to Wang Baixi's back and helped him untie his restraints.

"Alas, capitalism."
