Matt and Foggy exchanged a few words at the door and then parted ways.

His red sunglasses faced the street as he moved through the traffic at a moderate pace, his movements fluid, making him look nothing like a blind person.

As I passed through a dark alley, I paused for a moment, then resumed my normal pace and continued walking in the original direction.

Lin Nan didn't follow; tracking Daredevil would be a very foolish thing to do.

He threw the paper cup into the trash can, his gaze drawn to the used bookstore next to the law firm.

The glass display case was filled with all sorts of old books, all in a retro style, but none of them were dusty, so the owner must have taken good care of them.

In the corner of the shop window, there was a handwritten job posting with messy handwriting:

"Hiring temporary shop assistant, night shift. Requirements: meticulous, quiet, and able to handle simple accounting tasks."

"Working hours are Monday to Friday, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m."

Salary negotiable.

A thought flashed through Lin Nan's mind like lightning: directly contacting Daredevil was too risky, so why not try a roundabout approach?

After weighing the pros and cons, Lin Nan thought it was worth a try.

He pushed open the door of the secondhand bookstore. The interior was dimly lit, and there was a faint musty smell in the air. Both the lighting and the decor exuded the scent of time.

The small shop contained a huge amount of books, which were piled up haphazardly.

Behind the counter, a thin old man with gray hair and reading glasses was buried among the books, never raising his head.

Lin Nan knocked gently on the door and asked in a low voice like a shy high school student, "Are you hiring here?"

The old man raised his head, his gaze passing over his glasses and landing on Lin Nan's face: "Still a student?"

"Yes, I attend Midtown High School and am looking for a part-time job."

The old man's voice was deep, with a hint of consideration in his tone: "This place is not like yours; it's very unsafe. Aren't you afraid?"

Lin Nan seemed a little flustered: "I... need money..."

The old man stood up and wiped the table with a rag: "Eight dollars an hour, paid daily. The main job is to sort through the old books I collect. If there are customers, I pay them; if there are no customers, I just read quietly."

"We close at 10:30 sharp, pay wages in cash, lock the door and leave. I can't give you my key; I'll come back to open the door in the morning."

"If the conditions are right, is it possible to do it?"

Lin Nan nodded: "Okay."

"Can I go to work tonight?"

"can."

"What's your name, young man?"

"My name is Lin Nan."

The old man took a notebook and a pencil from the counter and placed them on the table.

"This is the ledger. It records how many books were sold and how much money was made. Just make a simple record."

During the conversation, Lin Mo learned that the old man's name was John.

The white-haired old man was in excellent spirits and explained the book's classification with clear thinking and tight logic.

I also explained to him how to use the old-fashioned cash register and some precautions for the store.

For example: you can't eat in the store, and you can't bring your friends over.

If you see a suspicious person or thing, pretend you didn't see it; if you can't avoid it, run away decisively.

Old John tapped on the counter and emphasized, "Remember, no matter what happens outside, don't go out to see. As long as they don't rush into the store, don't interfere."

"clear."

Old John muttered a few more words, probably complaining about the recent security situation in Hell's Kitchen, and the air immediately filled with a silent atmosphere.

After that, he took his old leather bag, put the exquisite old pocket watch in his pocket, and left through the back door.

Lin Nan first checked the shop to see if there was anything suspicious, such as miniature cameras or suspicious surveillance personnel.

Besides the book display area, there is only a warehouse full of old books that hasn't been sorted yet, and a small restroom.

After observing for a while, Lin Nan confirmed that there was nothing suspicious.

He sat back down at the counter, took out his notebook and books from his bag, and pretended to study diligently.

But in reality, he had already focused his consciousness on the drive in his chest, simulating the exercise in meditation.

For the next hour or so, there were only two guests, and nothing particularly noteworthy.

Around 8 p.m., the streets become very quiet. People here probably don't have much of a nightlife because of security issues.

Suddenly, Lin Nan's ears twitched; he caught a sound that seemed unusual.

A faint sound came from next door, either from next door or nearby. It seemed to be someone dragging something heavy, mixed with a faint groan of pain.

Has Daredevil started his operation? Or is there some kind of criminal activity?

He held his breath, not daring to press himself against the wall to listen, but instead communicating with the dream capsule and mobilizing a trace of its power.

My senses were heightened, and I could vaguely hear a sound.

It looked like a woman, and there was more than one crying.

Chapter 17 New Ideas

A thought struck Lin Nan, and a gloomy suspicion arose in his mind.

In Daredevil's main storyline, there appear to be cases involving human trafficking and the coercion of women.

Is something like this happening not far away?

Lin Nan's heart raced slightly. He stood up from behind the counter, walked to the back door, and gently opened it a crack to look outside.

Outside the back door is a narrow alley filled with garbage, dark and very quiet with no streetlights.

After staring at it for a few seconds, he decided to make a move.

He slipped out the door, disappearing into the darkness like a shadow. Relying on his keen senses and keen observation skills, still before it got completely dark, he crept towards the vicinity of the law firm like a night owl.

After groping around in the alley for a long time, I finally got close to my target.

A small door leading to the basement was opened in the dark alley. The door was tightly closed, with only a faint light shining through the crack.

The closer they got, the clearer the sound became. It was indeed coming from this building, but there was a slight discrepancy between what they initially thought. It wasn't Mark's firm, but rather an international law firm further away.

As he got closer, he heard other sounds.

Besides the woman's sobs, there were also the man's scolding and low laughter.

"Behave yourselves, and after the goods are inspected, you'll have your good days."

"This one looks pretty good, gag her!"

"Jazz will definitely love it!"

A chilling murderous intent surged within Lin Nan: human trafficking! Daredevil didn't show up! The crime happened nearby.

His hand instinctively reached for the driver on his chest, but after touching its cold texture, he forcibly suppressed his impulse.

No, no.

He's currently a working-class high school student named Lin Nan. If he were to appear as the Knight, S.H.I.E.L.D. and the police would immediately link him directly to the Knight.

It's not time to reveal everything yet; there's too much unknown information.

And does Daredevil know about this? His law firm is so close to this location, with his superhuman senses, could he have already noticed something?

Will his rash action disrupt Daredevil's plans?

But he couldn't do nothing. If crimes had different levels, human trafficking was one of the most intolerable to Lin Nan.

After he returned to the bookstore, he locked the door and pondered the matter repeatedly.

The original story is full of tragedies caused by information delays and insufficient power.

Perhaps he could provide evidence directly, rather than directly intervening, to offer clues that could alter the course of events.

Suddenly, he picked up the shop's landline phone and dialed a number.

Lin Nan did not call the police because, given the dark tone of Daredevil's stories, the police in Hell's Kitchen were unreliable.

The number he dialed was for Nelson Murdoch's firm.

The phone rang six or seven times before it was answered.

A slightly tired but enthusiastic voice came from the other end of the phone: "Hello, hello, Nelson Murdoch Law Firm, this is Virginia Nelson."

The sound on the other end of the phone was very loud, as if it were outdoors.

Lin Nan activated the power of the impact capsule, making his voice sound even stronger: "Mr. Nelson, I heard unusual noises coming from the basement near your house."

“There seemed to be the sound of a woman crying, and several men’s voices. They mentioned jazz and inspection, which sounded like illegal detention or human trafficking.”

"What? Illegal detention and human trafficking? And it's happening in our vicinity? Are you sure you're not joking?"

Fergie's voice suddenly turned serious, clearly indicating that the news had greatly impacted him.

“I’m absolutely certain the sound is still going on. I suggest we deal with it as soon as possible, as they could move at any time.” After saying that, Lin Nan immediately hung up the phone.

He walked to the window and stared intently in the direction of the law firm through the crack.

About five minutes later, a dark red figure appeared, swift as a leopard, silently slipping out from the dark corner of the building opposite.

Daredevil is here!

Lin Nan focused intently, using the dream capsule to enhance her senses, and listened carefully.

He needed to discern Daredevil's attitude from his voice.

Should Daredevil choose to investigate or storm in and take care of the situation?

A few minutes later, the noise suddenly grew louder. A series of dense, muffled impacts followed, subsiding in less than a minute.
