“I never expected you to care about something like this, it’s quite a surprise… But you can’t stay so down like this, cheer up, let’s start by coming to my birthday party.”

Hearing Adeline extend the invitation again, Lilith decided to relax and nodded in agreement...

Chapter 32: Preparations for the Birthday Party

Before arriving at Adeline's house, Lilith thought it wouldn't be much different from other houses, but when she saw the small detached duplex in front of her, she was stunned:

"Why is your house... different from mine?"

Adeline chuckled, about to tease Lilith, when she saw Lilith give her a look that said, "You're treating me differently? I'm going to get angry!" She quickly explained:

"Don't overthink it. Every time the heroes participate in killing giant beasts or rescuing refugees, their deeds are recorded, and the League of Legends will distribute the prize money afterwards."

I bought this house with this prize money. As long as you work hard, you can have one too…

Upon receiving this news, Lilith was taken aback:

"Will there still be bonuses? How come I didn't know?"

“No one will specifically tell you this kind of thing. Bring me your personal terminal, and I’ll teach you.” Adeline said, extending his right hand to Lilith to ask for her personal terminal.

Lilith didn't hide anything and handed the personal terminal stored with Amelia to Adeline, who then began operating it.

First, Adeline taught Lilith how to access the virtual account, then pointed to a line of numbers under the virtual account name and said:

"This is your bonus. In the megacity, all transactions can be conducted using this. Once you get used to it, it's quite convenient..."

Lilith took the personal terminal and looked at the numbers under the account, counting them one by one.

One...ten...hundred...thousand...ten thousand...hundred thousand...

A few days ago, Lilith killed the A+ level behemoth, the Dog Shrimp, and received a reward of one million. Although Lilith had no concept of money, the long string of numbers made her feel pleasing to the eye.

There was just one thing Lilith didn't understand:

"Being a hero is a good deed, but if this good deed can be measured in money, isn't it essentially just a transaction?"

Upon hearing this question, Adeline was momentarily taken aback, clearly not expecting Lilith to ask such a question. However, she quickly recovered and explained:

“What you say is fine, but if good deeds don’t get any reward, then fewer and fewer people will do them. Rewards are necessary to encourage more people to do good deeds.”

After speaking, Adeline didn't give Lilith a chance to respond or refute, but instead opened the door and stood in the doorway, inviting her:

"Let's not talk about this anymore. There's a lot to prepare for a birthday party. Since you're here, let's help each other with the setup."

Lilith paused for two seconds:

"So you called me here just to make me work as a free laborer?"

Adlin chuckled:

If I say no, would you believe me?

Lilith:

"Won't……"

And so, Lilith entered Adeline’s house. However, compared to the exquisite exterior, the interior was far from clean and tidy; it was a complete mess, like a junkyard.

Clothes were carelessly tossed on the sofa, socks and shoes were haphazardly thrown on the floor, and even the trash can was overflowing, yet it remained uncleaned.

Seeing this scene, Lilith initially didn't want to complain, until Adeline opened his arms and generously stated:

"Because I don't have time to tidy it up, it's a bit messy, but feel free to sit anywhere, just like you're at home."

"My house isn't that messy..."

Lilith grumbled and asked:

"Besides, how could you not have time to manage it? Giant beast attacks don't happen often. I think you're just lazy."

"It's not that I'm lazy, it's just that there's nothing I can do about it."

Adlin smiled and explained in a serious tone:

“When a city is attacked by a giant beast, not only will many people be injured, but many others will be displaced. Even the carcass of the giant beast, if not dealt with in time, will cause irreversible disasters to the surrounding areas.”

As a hero, I naturally had to deal with these troubles, which is why I didn't have time to tidy up the house..."

Hearing this, Lilith found it reasonable and stopped asking questions. However, having to tidy up someone else's house before attending a party was really hard to muster any enthusiasm for.

Fortunately, Amelia was there. Having taken care of Lilith's room for so long, Amelia had long since become a qualified maid.

Faced with the Adlin family's situation, she practically single-handedly took on all the housework, and in no time at all, she had tidied up the house, which had resembled a junkyard, into a neat and tidy place...

Wow! It's so clean! I didn't know Servants could be used like this.

Seeing her messy home transformed into a clean and tidy place, Adeline rubbed her eyes in disbelief. Accustomed to chaos, she felt a sense of unreality in the face of this newfound cleanliness.

When she came to her senses, she said happily:

"Now that the hygiene is taken care of, I'll take care of dinner. You've only been on Earth for a short time, so I bet you haven't had hot pot before. I'll show you what it's like today!"

With that, Adeline went to the kitchen and began preparing the ingredients and the broth.

Lilith, however, was hearing the word "hot pot" for the first time and wanted to figure out what it was, so she followed him to the kitchen to ask:

"You just mentioned hot pot? What's hot pot? Is it a pot made with fire?"

"Hot pot is a bit complicated to explain."

As Adlin prepared the ingredients, she sorted out her thoughts. She said:

"Hot pot is a specialty dish from the eastern part of the city. The way to eat it is to put a pot of boiling broth on the table, put raw ingredients in to cook, and then dip them in sauce before eating."

Most importantly, hot pot is usually spicy, which can be very stimulating for people from other regions who are used to milder cuisine…

Listening to Adeline's description, Lilith initially didn't understand what was so appealing about hot pot until Adeline finished preparing the ingredients and started making the soup base, when the spicy aroma wafted into her nostrils.

The smell was very strange. When it first entered her nasal cavity, Lilith felt a choking sensation, but after a few seconds, she could smell a fragrance in the pungent smell.

This was a scent Lilith had never smelled before; it was tingling and slightly bitter, but if you smelled it carefully, you could also detect a sweet note. The combination of these scents created a very complex aroma.

Lilith didn't know what the smell was, but after smelling it, her mouth started to salivate like crazy. Clearly, her taste buds, which were used to eating boiled cabbage, were captivated by the hot pot broth in front of her.

"It smells so good... Can we eat it now?"

Lilith swallowed hard, peering over the counter at Adeline preparing the pot of bright red soup base, and eagerly asked a question.

Seeing Lilith acting like a child, Adeline couldn't help but indulge her, saying:

"It's still early. We need to wait until all our friends arrive before we can start eating."

"How much longer do we have to wait?"

As Lilith asked this question, a knock on the door sounded at that very moment.

dong dong dong.

After the knock, a strong, resonant voice replied:

"Hey, you there, I know you're in there, come open the door for me..."

Chapter 33: Who ambushed me?!

Hearing these somewhat rude words, Adeline was quite surprised, clearly not expecting the owner of the voice to come.

Although she really wanted to greet them herself, the kitchen couldn't do without her; Amelia had gone to take out the trash, so she had to entrust the task to Lilith.

"My friend has arrived, could you help me entertain him? Maybe you can even become friends with him."

"Friends? I don't think so..."

Lilith scoffed at the statement, but despite saying it, her body betrayed her as she left the kitchen and went to the front door, opening it behind her.

Click.

It was the sound of the door lock being unlocked. After the door opened, standing outside was a muscular man with silver curly hair.

When the man saw that it wasn't Adeline who opened the door, but a girl he didn't recognize, a hint of confusion appeared on his expressionless face.

He craned his neck to look into the house and shouted:

"Hey, you there, when did you have a daughter? Who's the father? Tell him to come out and meet me..."

Before he could even finish speaking and before Adelin could respond, he was struck hard on the jaw, his brain went blank, and he fainted on the spot with a "whoosh".

As the heavy impact sounded, Adeline, who was busy in the kitchen, couldn't help but peek out.

If you don't look, it's fine. But once you do, you'll see that the muscular guy with silver curly hair is lying sprawled on the ground, while Lilith is in an uppercut position.

Adeline was completely bewildered, clearly unaware of what had just happened.

However, she knew her friend's character all too well; he must have said something to anger Lilith, which led to this predicament. So she said to Lilith:

"Don't take his words to heart. Aside from his annoying way of speaking, he's actually a pretty good person... By the way, what did he just say?"

Faced with this question, Lilith simply repeated what that guy had just said verbatim.

Upon hearing this, Adeline's eye twitched, and he immediately joined forces with Lilith:

"This guy really deserves a beating..."

After dragging the unconscious, silver-haired giant into the house, they had barely closed the door when another knocking sounded.

Upon opening the door, one sees a woman in a red dress. Although she is only slightly taller than Lilith, her impressive figure exudes maturity.

When Lilith opened the door for her, she was first surprised that it wasn't Adeline, then she narrowed her eyes and said with a grin:

"What an adorable little sister, I've never seen her before... Were you kidnapped by that guy Adeline?"

Lilith had absolutely no desire to answer this question. If she answered yes, it would only cause misunderstandings; if she answered no, it would be too troublesome to explain.

Lilith remained silent, simply staring blankly at the older woman in the red dress.

The older sister felt a little uncomfortable under Lilith's gaze, so she smiled politely and went past Lilith to find Adeline.

A moment later, the eldest sister found the kitchen, from which came a burst of sweet, melodious laughter...

Next, two women and one man visited: a girl with long, straight black hair wearing a white shirt and black skirt, a muscular woman with short, neat hair, and a guy with a jackal's head.

Of the three, Lilith recognized one of them very well; the girl with long, straight black hair was the examiner during the hero assessment.

The girl with long, straight black hair recognized Lilith. She was slightly surprised, and after realizing that Lilith was also a guest at the party, she nodded slightly to Lilith as a greeting.
