"Sir, please be careful."
William looked dejected and his expression was terrible. Dressed in a suit and tie, he walked around in the sweltering heat of over thirty degrees Celsius, and soon he was drenched in sweat, his white shirt soaked through.
The closer he got to his home, the more people he saw. The streets were filled with people talking about the homeless man, Johnny. Major New York news outlets were also there, and several television stations were broadcasting live.
“Hey, are you William Giuliani?” someone recognized their mayor.
"The mayor is here!"
Fifty-five-year-old William was too tired to speak, but he still stopped to wave to the citizens.
"Bring the mayor here! He's arrived!"
Police officers maintained order at the scene, and the tens of thousands of people gathered in front of the mayor's house made way for 55-year-old William to walk to his front door and talk to "Johnny" and the Flint family.
Steve, who hadn't shaved since entering the shelter, turned to look at William, who was middle-aged.
Johnny's strong physique and thick beard gave Mayor William a strong sense of intimidation, but he was indeed as handsome as described on the phone.
William shifted his gaze from Johnny to the other main characters standing nearby, the Flint family.
Flint had a large frame, but his muscles weren't as developed as Johnny's. Judging from the couple's clothes and appearance, they were clearly from the lower class in New York, and you could even faintly smell the sewers.
Are you the mayor?
Steve stepped forward.
“I am William, the current mayor of New York City,” William Giuliani replied, standing still.
"I have a question."
I will try my best to answer you.
William flashed a standard American fake smile, revealing two rows of gleaming white teeth.
"What right does the government have to deprive parents of their right to raise their children?" Steve asked loudly.
“I have no idea what happened, sir. I don’t even know your name, or this family’s name,” William said to Steve.
“My name is Johnny, that’s what my friends call me.”
“This is Flint, this is his wife Sarah, and their daughter Penny,” Steve introduced to William.
William secretly observed the scene and saw that at least eight cameras were pointed at him, as well as at Johnny, Flint, and Sarah, the uninvited guests.
"Are they illegal immigrants?" William asked.
“No, we’re native New Yorkers,” Flint replied.
“And you?” William asked Steve.
“Even if they are illegal immigrants, you can’t deprive them of their right to be parents,” Steve told William.
“I’m sorry they’re going to lose their child, but it’s a matter for the law, and even if we start amending the law now, it’s too late,” William told Steve.
“Flint, Sarah, did I call you the right person? You can work hard and bring Penny back to your side once your living conditions have improved significantly. That’s the only suggestion I can make,” William said.
“Penny is sick, and her illness is something her family can’t afford. Sending her to someone else’s house is murder. Have the law and those in charge considered this situation?” Steve asked.
“I’m sorry, I’m just the mayor of New York City.” William bowed slightly to Steve.
William was terrified of being punched by Steve.
“You have to tell me now, what are you willing to do for them? Like, I gave all my money to Flint, and I even knitted him sweaters so he could sell them,” Steve said to William.
"Without a doubt, you are a good person."
“I can also donate all the money in my wallet to Flint, but I don’t have time to knit sweaters for you.” William took out his wallet, pulled out the bills, and handed them to Steve.
“I have a dollar, Johnny, pass it to Flint for me.”
William and Steve both looked toward the source of the sound. It was Li Qun standing behind the police line, shouting at them while waving a one-dollar bill.
"Johnny, catch my paper airplane!"
Li Qun folded a dollar bill into a paper airplane and threw it over; the paper airplane flew seven or eight meters.
"I also have a dollar, and I can afford to spend a dollar."
"The entrance fee to the museum is five yuan, but today it's only one yuan to see the mayor perform for us."
"When will the performance of beating up the mayor start?"
One-dollar coin after another was folded into paper airplanes and flew toward Steve Rogers and Mayor William.
Chapter 14 Are you hiding something from me?
"Johnny, the Flint family's problem has been solved at this moment."
"People's donations can help them overcome their current difficulties."
William Giuliani was speaking to Steve when the television crew placed a microphone above their heads, not wanting to miss anything in today's "program."
"That's not right."
“Money can’t solve everything,” Steve told Mayor William.
“But it is possible,” William replied.
"What happens when the donations run out?" Steve glanced at the banknotes and paper airplanes scattered all over the ground, like a green carpet.
“What they lack is not money, but a social environment where their family can live a stable life,” Steve said.
"You are the mayor. If you make it impossible for a family to live, then this is your responsibility."
“Sir, we are not a communist society,” William said to Steve.
“No matter what kind of society, what kind of ideology, or what kind of doctrine it is, the core is people,” Steve said.
Steve begins debating with the mayor of New York City, and the onlookers unanimously support him. Mayor William is the antagonist of the story, while the ordinary man "Johnny" is the protagonist of their righteous tale.
"Has the captain regained his memories?" Li Qun asked Peter beside him.
As Steve's emotions escalated in his debate with Mayor William on social issues, he spoke faster and faster, his language became increasingly aggressive, and his analysis of the issues became more and more profound.
William's face flushed red, humiliated by Steve's rebuttal. He kept glancing towards the door, wanting to hide inside.
Who are these people saying that "Johnny," who rushed to his doorstep, is mentally challenged?
If we're talking about his mental health issues, it's only that he's too idealistic.
Johnny, the leader of this fantasy society, is a man of extremely high moral character. The citizens are friendly and kind, and the laws are comprehensive and detailed.
“Go home! Pick up the donations on the ground and go home!” William yelled at Johnny, his temper breaking.
“Aren’t you going to let the police arrest me?” Steve asked the mayor.
"You..."
William wanted to call the homeless man "Johnny" mentally challenged, but he stopped himself. Insults were illegal, he remembered, and he couldn't give his opponent a reason to attack him.
"Is the debate over?"
A tall figure stood out from the crowd, his white suit and 2.33-meter height making him stand out from the crowd.
“Mr. Fisker…” William immediately calmed down.
Next year will be an election year for the mayor of New York City, and Wilson Fiske is determined to win the position.
William still wants to continue serving as mayor of New York City and does not want to leave the position.
If he can hold on for another term as mayor of New York City, becoming the President of the United States in the future will not be too difficult.
Wilson Fisk walked forward, stepped over the police line, and stood in front of Steve. He took out a check with the amount written on it from the inside pocket of his white suit and handed it to Steve.
“A million?” Steve looked up at Wilson Fix.
“You may not have known me before, but from today onwards, you will know who I am,” Wilson Fisk said.
"Some people call me New York's number one philanthropist."
Wilson Fisk turned and walked toward the Flint family, kneeling on one knee before Flint's wife and daughter.
To avoid tearing his white suit trousers at the crotch, Wilson Fisker had no choice but to kneel on one knee.
Wilson's behavior was much more humane than Mayor William's.
Even if one feels that Wilson Fisk is acting at this moment, he is still a very competent actor.
Steve walked over to Sarah and handed her a check for one million dollars.
Flint and Sarah divorced and went bankrupt with debts, and the person in their family who needed the money the most was Sarah, the mother who was raising Penny.
"Sir, you don't need to give us so much."
Sarah handed the check back to Wilson Fisk, who raised his palm in refusal.
“Johnny, I think you’re absolutely right about how you describe the distribution of social resources.”
Are you interested in working for me?
"Flint, what can you do? I can give you a job."
Li Qun stood behind the cordon, wanting to shout out to Steve to reject Kingpin, but he feared he couldn't stop him.
“I used to be a truck driver, and a car accident ruined my job and my truck,” Flint replied.
“My company needs an experienced driver like you,” Wilson Fisk said to Flint.
Can I see your daughter?
Sarah showed Wilson the unconscious Penny.
Out of desperation, she and Flint had given Penny some sleeping pills earlier. As long as the child was asleep, she wouldn't cry incessantly because of her illness, and their anxiety wouldn't be tied to their daughter's restlessness.
"Could you tell me what illness it is?" Wilson Fisk asked.
“It’s a disease caused by a genetic mutation, and it’s very rare. If Penny had been born earlier, the disease could have been named after her,” Flint replied.
“If you would like, I can introduce you to scientists from Osborn. In the field of genetic diseases, Osborn is at the forefront of the world,” Wilson said.
"Thank you, Mr. Fisk."
Chief Black arrived late, but that was the fastest he could manage. He found Inspector George Stacy and showed him his identification.
"Could you please disperse the crowd? When I came over, I saw seven or eight thieves stealing things among the crowd. Please help find the owners of these wallets."
