“Have you considered the consequences? The government will determine that we are incapable of raising our daughter and will give her away to someone else.”
"What?! They dare to do this?!" Flint also tensed up.
"You idiot!! I knew divorcing you was the right choice!"
Flint heard approaching footsteps, but it was too late to stop the plan.
"Can we still ask the government to get our daughter back?" Flint asked his wife.
Flint moved into the New York sewers with his wife and daughter to pretend they lived there, and now the New York police have found them.
"We've received a report. Are you Flint?"
Four police officers cautiously entered the sewer and called out to the officers.
"it's me."
"Who's next to you? All of you, come out here and raise your hands!"
“It’s my wife and my two-year-old daughter,” Flint replied.
"what?"
The program's cameramen followed them, their lenses positioned behind the four officers. Upon hearing Flint's words, everyone present froze in place.
Four New York police officers thought they had discovered a criminal's hideout, but they never expected to find a family of three living in a sewer.
Chapter 12 Summon the mayor!
"This is news? The NYPD is becoming more and more incompetent."
"Aren't they pretty tough with other criminals? How come they're stuck outside the detention center with a veteran?"
“Jameson, don’t be so agitated. I’ll get out of the car and take a look.”
Ben Parker and John Jonah Jameson were in their car when someone called the Daily Bugle with big news. They drove over, only to be met with great disappointment from Jameson.
"Ben, what's going on?"
Ben Parker got back into the car, and Jameson asked him.
“A veteran with mental health issues suspects that the shelter sent a friend he met yesterday to be used for human experimentation, and he is asking the New York Police Department to help him find his missing new friend.”
“Mental problems, huh?” Jameson laughed.
Do you have a gun?
"No," Ben replied.
"That's incredibly incompetent," Jameson said, shaking his head with a cigarette in his mouth.
“It’s rare to see the police being so lenient in their enforcement, so let’s not be too harsh,” Ben Parker said.
"I'll get out and take a look." Jameson stubbed out his cigarette and got out of the car.
There was no danger, and a large crowd had gathered at the scene. The police cordoned off the area, and George Stacy was using a megaphone to talk to "Johnny."
"I am the editor-in-chief of the Daily Bugle. Let me come over here."
Jameson squeezed through the crowd and strained to peer into the shelter.
"There's only one person there, and he doesn't have a gun. Why don't you rush in and tackle him?" Jameson asked the onlookers.
"The police thought the same thing. You can take a look over there."
The onlookers pointed Jameson in a direction where three police officers were lying next to the gate of the shelter.
"One punch, one kill. Want to try?"
"What the hell?" Jameson asked, his face full of confusion.
"This is much more exciting than a boxing match."
"Why are there a few ordinary people lying around here too?" Jameson asked.
“Those concerned citizens, like you, don’t believe in superstitions,” a bystander replied with a smile.
"Look, someone's gone up there again."
Jameson tiptoed and they saw someone sneak around the perimeter of the shelter from the corner of the wall to the door. As soon as the door was pushed open, a fist came out from the crack in the door, made contact with the person's face, and the person fell asleep immediately.
"Oh my God!!"
Jameson exclaimed in amazement, saying that what he had just witnessed looked like a slapstick comedy.
"He's hiding behind the door?" Jameson asked.
"Yes. Like a child, right?"
“What mental problems does this person have?” Jameson asked the person next to him.
"I heard that his intelligence is equivalent to that of a ten-year-old child."
“These people got beaten up for nothing,” Jameson said.
"Isn't that right?" the onlookers chimed in with laughter.
People were lying in front of the shelter. Although Steve had attacked so many people, he had been diagnosed with a brain disability and had lower than normal intelligence by doctors early on, so he could only be acquitted in court.
George Stacy has been trying her best to reduce the number of "victims," but there are still quite a few people who want to get close and try Johnny's fist.
It's really interesting that he can be knocked down with just one punch.
"I am back."
Jameson got back into the car and lit a cigarette.
"What do you think about the homeless people in shelters being sent to be guinea pigs?" Ben Parker asked Jameson.
“Urban legends are like alligators in the New York sewers,” Jameson replied.
"What if it's not just a legend?" Ben said.
“This is bad for anyone,” Jameson said.
“Our leisure time is over, we should head back to the office.” Jameson glanced at Ben Parker.
"Wait a little longer..." Ben said.
"I think I see Peter."
"Peter, your nephew? He's here to see what's going on too?"
"He was doing community volunteer work with his classmates, maybe he was there to help out?"
Ben and Jameson both got out of the car and walked towards Peter.
Li Qun stood outside the crowd, anxiously watching the direction of the shelter. Although Gwen earnestly explained to Peter that Steve, who had a mental disorder, would be fine if he beat someone, Li Qun was afraid that something else might happen.
"Peter!"
"Uncle Ben? What brings you here?"
“Peter, what are you and your classmate doing here?” Uncle Ben walked up to Peter.
“The three of us were distributing food here at noon, and then we caught up,” Peter replied simply.
“Don’t make Mei worry about you, go home first. You two too.” Uncle Ben said, glancing at Li Qun and Gwen as he spoke.
“Ms. Martha, this is my uncle Ben.” Peter turned and introduced Ben Parker to Martha, who was standing next to the truck.
Hello, Masa.
Hello, Ben.
The two shook hands lightly and then quickly let go.
“I’m sorry, Ben, I should have taken Peter and the others home earlier,” Martha said to Ben.
“I can guess what those three kids are thinking; they’re staying because they want to be on TV,” Ben said.
“It’s already been done,” Peter said.
"Which TV station is it?" Jameson asked Peter.
“Uncle Jameson, it’s WABC,” Peter replied.
"They've already left?" Jameson looked around the scene again, but didn't see the WABC media van.
“They went to find Flint,” Peter said.
“Flint, that’s the missing person,” Jameson said.
"Listen." Li Qun turned to look into the distance. Two police cars had returned, and the WABC homeless program crew's car was following behind them.
Flint nervously put his arm around his wife's shoulder, while his wife held their child tightly, praying silently to God. The family of three was taken to the gate of the shelter in a police car.
"Johnny, come out and see! Flint has been found!"
George Stacy held up a megaphone and shouted at Steve.
The Flint family got out of the police car, and the crowd in front of the shelter made way for them. The program's cameramen filmed them from the side, and the program host suppressed his excitement.
Flint, are you alright?
The shelter doors opened, and Steve stepped out.
After watching for more than an hour, the crowd finally saw Johnny's true face. Johnny is arguably the most handsome homeless man in New York history.
"Johnny, I'm fine. Let me introduce you, this is my wife and my daughter."
"Flint, has your family had lunch yet?"
“Not yet,” Flint replied.
“Officer, I request that you provide lunch for the Flint family, make sure they are well-fed,” Steve shouted to George.
“That’s easy,” George replied to Johnny.
“You can’t just let them eat whatever they can find,” Steve shouted.
"OK."
Several officers and their superior, George Stacy, exchanged glances. The mental disability of "Johnny" in this shelter didn't seem to be an act; he spoke in the same tone as "Forrest Gump."
"This Flint escaped from the asylum, and his wife is also homeless?"
