“Gwen, why are you like this too? Tell me, which department?” Li Qun lowered his voice.
“History,” Gwen replied.
Chapter 35 The Cooling Principle of a Refrigerator
Of all the subjects, the two language subjects that gave Li Qun the most headaches were English and Italian.
English, any language can be used, and new words are constantly being added to it. The broader and deeper Li Qun's knowledge becomes, the more new English words he needs to master, like a mountain of excrement. This greatly limits Li Qun's self-learning ability.
At noon, after finishing his lunch, Li Qun went to the school library and found a copy of "Amateur Radio Operation Guide".
After flipping through more than ten pages, Li Qun was baffled by the technical terms in the book. He needed to borrow a professional dictionary to understand the meaning of some of the strange words in the book, and the sentences formed by these technical words were even more incomprehensible.
Radio enthusiasts need to have an individual amateur radio license, and the "Amateur Radio Operation Guide" that Li Qun borrowed is not an introductory book to radio; reading it requires a certain level of basic radio knowledge.
John Sullivan and Frank Sullivan are both radio enthusiasts with personal amateur radio licenses, and Li Qun now plans to join them to learn how to operate a radio station.
While Leopold was learning radio operation on his own at school, Leopold was also entering the world of radio at John Sullivan's house.
John's father, Frank, left behind a stack of radio textbooks, which John Sullivan used to study to obtain his amateur radio operator's license. Frank and John filled the books with dense notes, making it much easier for Leo to learn radio operation than he would have learned in school.
Leo didn't touch the radio in John's house; he just read books and studied the theoretical knowledge first.
When Frank's voice came through the radio, traversing thirty years, Leo immediately responded on the other end.
"This is W-2-QYV. Your call has been received. Please speak," Leo replied earnestly into the radio.
“Duke, has John not returned home yet?” Frank asked.
“Yes, Mr. Frank, I’m home alone right now. I made a sandwich using your toaster at noon, following a recipe on TV, but I’m sorry I broke it,” Leo said.
"How is it broken?" Frank asked.
"My bread machine always burns the bread, and I can't figure out what's wrong with it."
“Oh, if you can find the instruction manual, Mr. Duke, you can follow the steps in the manual to operate the bread machine. It’s designed to be foolproof. Generally speaking, it won’t break down,” Frank said.
"Duke, did you operate any other household appliances today?" Frank asked.
As a firefighter, Frank was worried that Leo, a down-on-his-luck nobleman from 1876, might accidentally set his house on fire, and he didn't want his son to lose their house thirty years later.
“There’s also a refrigerator and a microwave,” Leo replied.
“Johnny has a microwave oven at home, which is very easy to use. You just need to set the heating time and wait. However, your microwave oven is an older model, which can only adjust the heating time, not the heating temperature.”
"How does a refrigerator keep cool? Mr. Frank, I'm very curious about that," Leo asked.
“I can’t answer that question,” Frank replied.
"Ok."
“Duke, please call me if John returns home.”
"no problem."
……
"Liqun, do you want to be a detective? Help investigate the serial murders from thirty years ago?" Gwen asked Liqun in a low voice.
“The killer must be a white man, and not particularly physically strong, because his victims were nurses who had just finished their shifts. Nurses who have just finished their shifts are mentally and physically exhausted and cannot put up a strong fight when attacked,” Li Qun told Gwen.
"The fact that the murderer was able to precisely evade the police investigation shows that the murderer was very familiar with the police's investigation process for homicide cases and that his profession gave him sufficient knowledge of the work of the police."
"Could it be a reporter?" Li Qun speculated.
"Could the killer also be a police officer?" Gwen wondered.
"police?"
"Is it the darkest place under the lamp?" Li Qun pondered this possibility.
If the murderer is indeed a police officer, and the crime was committed within his own jurisdiction, then there could be a mole within the police department, which could indeed turn the case into an unsolved mystery.
“Peter, do you have any ideas?” Li Qun asked Peter.
“What were you talking about? I was paying attention in class,” Peter replied.
After finishing his last class on Monday, Li Qun tidied up his locker and met John Sullivan, who was waiting for him outside the school.
"Leon, has your memory changed?" John asked, concerned about the historical changes as soon as they met.
“No,” Li Qun replied.
"These are Parker and Stacy, my good friends."
Li Qun introduced Peter and Gwen to John Sullivan, and the melancholy officer greeted the two men.
Hello.
“Parker, is it? I think I’ve seen you ride your bicycle past my house before. My house is at 343 42nd Avenue,” John said to Peter Parker.
“Really? Your house is four blocks away from mine, not too far,” Peter said.
“You don’t need to worry about Lyon, he’s not involved in any dangerous cases,” John told Peter and Gwen.
“Officer Sullivan, we all know, but only the three of us. It hasn’t spread to anyone else. My father is George Stacy. You should know my father, right?” Gwen asked.
“So you’re Officer George’s daughter?” John smiled at Gwen.
“Want a ride? I can take you home, it’s on my way,” John said.
"The car is parked over there."
Gwen and Peter didn't stand on ceremony with John and got into John Sullivan's car with Li Qun.
In the car, John handed his notebook to Li Qun, which contained key information copied from the case file.
“This afternoon, one of the victim’s files went missing. I think my dad must have done something to stop the killer,” John Sullivan told Li Qun.
Li Qun flipped through the notebook. The victims all had the same neck wounds. The murderer used a rope-like weapon to strangle the victims when they were unable to resist, causing them to suffocate to death.
“The newly discovered female skeleton in the alley behind the old restaurant on Dickman Street is the first victim. She died on April 28, 1969, earlier than the time of the series of cases recorded by the police. The on-site investigation shows that the murderer disposed of the body very hastily after committing the crime…” John told Li Qun about the results of the skeleton examination he had obtained today.
Chapter 36 Schrödinger's Cat
Cecil Steadman rang the Osborne's doorbell; he was looking for Duke Leopold of Albany.
S.H.I.E.L.D. has sorted out Leo's identity, and America now has another legal citizen with a full range of social welfare benefits.
“Hey Cecil, Leo’s not home, he’s… I’ll have to call someone else,” Harry said to Cecil, who had come to visit, in the living room.
“Where did he go? Did you keep your confidentiality agreement properly?” Cecil scrutinized Harry Osborn, with the butler Bernard standing behind Harry.
"Of course, none of us have talked about Leo."
Harry called Peter, who gave him John Sullivan's address over the phone.
“42nd Avenue, Queens…” Cecilia frowned as she wrote down the address.
“Is there anything else, Mr. Cecil?” Harry asked.
"that's all, thanks."
Cecil left the Osborne house and drove to the John Sullivan house.
John's house was bustling with activity. Steve, who had just finished get off work, came over to see if there was anything he could do to help.
“Johnny, how old were you thirty years ago?” John Sullivan asked.
“I don’t know,” Steve replied.
"I'm sorry," John said apologetically.
“Mr. Frank, could you make us a time capsule? One that will remain untouched for thirty years?” Li Qun said to Frank on the other end of the radio.
"A time capsule? Good idea."
"Son, do you want me to put something in there?" Frank asked with a smile.
"Vinyl records, Led Zeppelin III, Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon."
"There are also baseball cards, Topt or Fleisch hairstyle cards."
“You like these? That’s great, I like them too,” Frank said.
“Mr. Frank, you haven’t taken any action yet, have you? But you already have an idea in your mind to carry it out. Have you thought about where to bury the time capsule?” Li Qun asked.
“I don’t bury things, I only put things away. There’s a loose plank under the seats by the window in the restaurant, on the left side. That’s a good place to hide things,” Frank said.
“Mr. Frank, I’m going to take a look at the place you mentioned.”
“I haven’t put anything in yet,” Frank said.
“Schrödinger’s cat,” Li Qun said.
“We are looking at the future, thirty years from now. You have been leading the changes in the past, and we are accepting the changes.”
"Although we can synchronize activities at two ends of time and space through radio, it is possible that you only need to have a thought in your mind to change the future we live in."
"Is it really possible?" Frank sensed a power in Li Qun's words, a power that could change the future.
"Wait for me a moment."
Li Qun walked to the restaurant, lifted the cushion of the window seat, felt around and found a loose wooden board. Lifting the board, Li Qun found an iron box in the space underneath.
Li Qun laboriously pulled the iron box out of the gap in the wooden planks, and after opening it, he saw the things he had just told Frank about that he wanted inside.
Li Qun excitedly carried the metal box back to the radio station and told Frank that he had gotten the item.
"Mr. Frank, I've got the stuff."
"It's an iron box."
"Were you just thinking of storing these things in a metal box?" Li Qun asked.
“I’ve thought about it, oh my god!!” Frank exclaimed over the radio.
"My dream has come true!"
“Mr. Frank, I think the idea isn’t important; what matters is the decision in your heart.”
“If you decide to do something in the past and don’t change your mind for thirty years, then we will immediately see the impact of your decision after thirty years,” Li Qun said.
“Let me think about it…” Frank said.
