51. The Mefilas Alien, a game of gentlemen and demons.
"Rentaro, Rentaro, hey!"
Enju Aihara's incessant shouting rang in Rentaro Satomi's ears, finally giving him a glimmer of hope and allowing him to escape a question he couldn't avoid after being questioned by someone he didn't know.
Rentaro Satomi was panting heavily, drenched in sweat, his face filled with lingering fear. He had almost been forced to confront something he had thought about before, but had immediately decided to avoid as soon as he considered it.
"What's wrong, Rentaro?" Aihara Enju realized something was wrong and immediately jumped over with concern, helping Rentaro, who was panting on the ground, to his feet. "Were you attacked from the shadows? Where are the enemies?"
"No, no, there are no enemies, it's just myself..."
Rentaro Satomi paused for a moment after saying this.
Are there really no enemies?
He knows his own personality; how could he possibly think about those things on his own initiative?
However, having enemies is impossible. Even the highest-level, unique Level 5 [Twelve Constellation Gastrea], capable of destroying a country with a single head, does not possess the kind of mind-invasion ability that humans imagine.
Therefore, it's impossible that someone is invading his mind, manipulating him, or asking him questions.
Rentaro Satomi shook his head and let out a breath: "It's nothing, I guess I just stayed up too late last night and was a little out of it?"
Hearing this, Aihara Enju breathed a sigh of relief and proudly nudged Rentaro with her elbow: "Moo, Rentaro, you really scared me!"
'Hmm, this elbow strike is nowhere near as good as a Kirieloid's.'
Huh, is someone talking?
Lan Yuan Enju was taken aback, scratched her head, looked around, and then immediately shook her head. Was she stupid? How could anyone speak so vaguely?
Just as Aihara Enju proudly concluded with her hands on her hips, a sharp, piercing roar suddenly rang out nearby: "That's the Cursed Child? Gastrea is already dead, you better get her out of here, get her far away, police!"
She was a middle-aged woman with a bloated belly, thick flesh, and an obese body, who looked like a wealthy woman who still indulged in the most luxurious lifestyle even in this post-apocalyptic era.
When she saw the Gastrea approaching, she was so frightened that she almost fainted and kept calling for help.
But now that the Gastrea is dead, there is no trace of fear on her face anymore. Instead, there is a great deal of disgust and annoyance, as well as an unconscious sense of superiority.
Frowning, this fat pig-like rich woman was behaving like she was shooing away flies—no, even flies were less disliked and repulsed than Lan Yuan Yanzhu, she was ordering her around.
Even though she was clearly afraid of Gastrea, even though Aihara Enju had actually killed the Gastrea with a single punch.
But none of this prevented the fat pig lady from openly looking down on and scolding Lan Yuanyanzhu, just like she would a beggar.
"—"
Lan Yuan Yanzhu, who had been proudly standing with her hands on her hips, looking like she wanted to take credit, suddenly froze, her face turning visibly dejected. Her lips trembled as if she wanted to say something.
But seeing the same disgusted and repulsive looks in the eyes of not only the fat old lady, but also the surviving police officers and other residents, Lan Yuanyanzhu's lips moved, but in the end she said nothing.
She herself couldn't tell whether it was because she didn't have the courage to say anything, or because she simply didn't want to say anything anymore, and she was feeling listless.
Seeing the others' attitudes, Rentaro Satomi took a deep breath, quickly stepped forward, stood in front of Enju, blocking the others' gaze from Enju, and then whispered, "Let's go, Enju."
Aihara Enju hesitated, gritting her teeth, and finally stomped her foot, then shut up and was pulled downstairs by Rentaro.
Police officers are paid to remove gastrulators, but this money cannot be obtained at the scene; they must go to the police station afterward to collect it.
I made this order today and got this money. I can buy food for the next few days without worrying about only being able to eat and not being able to buy vegetables. Maybe I can even taste some meat.
These are all positive developments.
However, as she walked downstairs, Aihara Enju had no mind to think about any of this. She was looking downcast, her head drooping, and she walked slowly, feeling very resentful: "Hey, Rentaro... why do I always get treated like this?"
“It’s alright, Enju!” Rentaro Satomi patted Enju’s head and said firmly, “They may misunderstand you, but as long as we keep going and save more people.”
"At that time, one day, someone will stand up for you and for the cursed children!"
"One day, no one will discriminate against you anymore, and you won't have to hide your identity to go to school. We must protect humanity until we reach that future. Keep going, Yeonju!"
"Yes, Rentaro, I believe you—"
I haven't been able to say the word "you" in "I believe in you" yet.
In the quiet alley, a laugh, though abrupt and uncontrollable, was still remarkably gentlemanly—so gentlemanly that it evoked no ill will in anyone—suddenly broke the silence.
Rentaro Satomi was startled and instinctively pulled Enju behind him to protect her. He tensed up and quickly assumed a defensive fighting stance, shouting, "Who is it!"
"Hehe, don't worry. If I had any ill intentions towards you, you would have been beheaded long ago."
From the shadows of the alley, space seemed to be distorted, and a being that was neither human, nor machine, nor Gastrea slowly emerged from it.
It has blue eyes and is entirely black, except for its face and ears, which are silvery-white.
It was clearly a non-human creature; it should have triggered the self-preservation mechanism of human genes, causing the hairs on its entire body to stand on end.
Yet this inhuman being strolled in with such gentlemanly steps and elegant manners, exuding a genuine and courteous air from head to toe.
This is not an aura that can be faked. The mere half of the gentlemanly air emanating from this non-human being is enough to instantly annihilate all the gentlemen, politicians, and high-ranking officials on this earth.
Even if all the humans on this planet were bound together, if it were a contest of gentlemanly conduct, they would all involuntarily feel ashamed in front of this inhuman being, and would be unable to even be stubborn.
Such a gentleman, so gentlemanly that even Rentaro Satomi found it difficult to be on guard for a moment, his body naturally assuming that such a gentleman would not easily lay a hand on others.
At the same time, Rentaro Satomi also felt a sense of unease.
Because besides his unparalleled gentlemanly demeanor, a certain instinct told him that this non-human creature also seemed to be hiding a demonic side!
Who are you?!
Facing the tense and hostile gaze of Satomi Rentaro, the Mifilas alien remained neither angry nor annoyed.
He simply smiled, his left hand behind his back, completely unconcerned that the person in front of him was merely an ant he could crush countless times with a flick of his wrist. He gave a very gentlemanly and elegant greeting.
"Let me introduce myself. I am the wise general of the Four Dark Kings of the Empire, personally appointed by His Majesty, the Devil Gentleman Mefilas Alien. Hello, nice to meet you, Rentaro-kun."
Compared to her own race and title, being personally appointed by His Majesty the Emperor was the most important thing. Even knowing that the Earthlings before her could not know the Emperor's glory and majesty, Mefilas still smiled and spread His Majesty's fame.
"The Mefilas aliens?" Rentaro Satomi's pupils contracted. "Aliens?!"
"Exactly."
The alien from Mefilas smiled and said, "Don't worry, and don't be afraid, Rentaro-kun. I don't intend to hurt you. Put down your attack, and let's have a more harmonious and pleasant conversation."
"What do you mean by this?" Aihara Enju instantly activated her Spinosaurus form at zero frames, hissing protectively as she spoke. "Trying to deceive Rentaro into not being on guard against you, and then take the opportunity to hurt him? Don't even think about it!"
"It seems that a few preliminary steps are indeed needed before we can have a proper discussion. This is really troublesome. I didn't want to do this, because it would not be in line with my intentions if it were seen as showing off. But if it is necessary, then there is no other way."
Just as Aihara Enju was about to breathe out and rush up to attack, the Mifilas alien gracefully spread out her hands with a slight sense of regret.
The next second, clang!
"Huh?"
Hey hey hey hey—
Without any warning, without even a snap of the fingers, both Aihara Enju, who was still sprinting, and Satomi Rentaro, who was trying to pull Enju back, found themselves suddenly appearing at an unknown height in the air.
All they knew was that when they looked down, there was a thick layer of clouds, and they were falling rapidly. After passing through the clouds, they saw a land filled with endless mountain ranges, and they could even see a Gastrea that looked hundreds of meters long wriggling between those mountains.
Given its size, there's no need to even guess; it's absolutely one of those level five Gastrea creatures, one of the twelve constellations, capable of destroying entire nations—a truly unique species in the world.
What's even more terrifying is that Rentaro discovered that the place where he and Enju fell was right near that Gastrea!
"Aaaaaaaaaaa!"
Click!
The next second, their howling suddenly stopped.
It wasn't that Enju and Rentaro had become mute, but rather that the surrounding environment had become a vacuum, completely devoid of sound waves. Even if the two of them were opening their mouths and making "abba aba" sounds, not a single sound could be heard around them.
Enju and Rentaro were shocked to see something even larger than before.
It was a blue planet.
It is the home of humankind, the birthplace on which they have always depended for survival, the round, blue, azure Earth.
Not in the sky, but in the outer sky?
Wait... Oxygen, the oxygen is going out, the oxygen is gone, I'm going to suffocate!
Swish!
Just as the oxygen began to dissipate, the scenery before Enju and Rentaro suddenly shifted, transforming into a scene beyond their comprehension, more colorful and indescribable than anything humans could see.
At first, Rentaro didn't realize it, but he quickly understood.
"Bacteria, it's bacteria!"
Rentaro was deeply shaken. Although he was not a medical student, he had some experience with bacteria and viruses under a microscope because he had connections with doctors.
However, it looks completely different now than when you look at it under a microscope.
He and Enju were now pitifully small compared to bacteria. Compared to them, the countless bacteria and even viruses spreading and wriggling around and in the distance were as huge as gastrulation organisms tens or even hundreds of meters long.
However, compared to gastrulators, these most primitive bacteria and viruses are far more magnificent and captivating.
Even knowing they were not safe at all, Rentaro and Enju were still mesmerized by the viruses and bacteria.
It wasn't until a giant bacterium spotted the two tiny creatures and swiftly drifted over, ready to devour Rentaro and Enju, that the two screamed in terror, feeling an oppressive force far more terrifying than that of Gastrea.
The scenery changed again in the next second. After experiencing three different fantastical adventures, Rentaro and Enju subconsciously tried to grab onto something around them to hold themselves still and stop drifting with the wind.
This time there was indeed something around them, but Rentaro and Enju were astonished to find that their palms passed right through the things nearby, as if those things didn't exist—no!
It's as if I no longer exist!
Rentaro saw it; this was definitely a sewer located outside of human territory, completely unmaintained for the past ten years, and long since in a state of disrepair.
This sewer was not only covered with a thin layer of green moss, but also had holes of varying sizes in various places, from which extremely filthy sewage was gradually seeping out.
Whether it's the sewer pipes or the sewage, it should all be so foul that any human who comes by and smells it will immediately vomit and experience intestinal peristalsis.
But now, Rentaro and Enju only visually know that these things are smelly and disgusting, but they don't show any other reactions or symptoms. Even when they instinctively want to cover their mouths, bend over and vomit, they are surprised to find that they don't feel like vomiting at all.
I felt light and empty, like a ghost in legends, and I couldn't touch anything. Conversely, at this moment, nothing could touch me.
"Chirp chirp!"
A rat swarm was raging through the sewers. Countless normal rats, some even larger than adult cats and dogs, poured out of the holes in the filthy pipes. Tens of thousands of them crowded the space and rushed off in one direction.
Rentaro and Enju are in this direction.
The rats couldn't trample on either of them at all.
This was an incredibly wonderful feeling that Rentaro couldn't describe no matter how hard he tried, even with all the vocabulary and phrases he had ever learned in his life.
