Akane Shinjo couldn't help but mutter something under her breath, her tone full of absurdity:
"I thought the guy who deals cards only hires marginalized people who are dissatisfied with society. I didn't expect his business to be so extensive that he can even deal cards to animals."
On this empty and quiet riverbank, the murmur sounded exceptionally clear and was overheard by the gorilla on the opposite side.
Charlie stopped in place and tilted his head slightly.
It stood under the streetlight, and on its short-haired face, the corners of its mouth suddenly parted to the sides, revealing a very human-like, even somewhat mocking, sneer.
"Don't think too highly of yourself, humans."
Upon hearing that a gorilla could speak human language, Akane Shinjo's eyes widened instantly; she was genuinely astonished.
Even though she was a seasoned tokusatsu fan who had seen countless talking aliens on screen, the impact of actually hearing a chimpanzee speak fluent Japanese in real life was still quite significant.
Charlie looked at the astonishment on Shinjo Akane's face and a mocking smile appeared on his lips.
"Humans are always used to placing themselves in a superior position."
"In the end, you are just another kind of animal on this planet. You have only shed your body hair and learned to use tools, and now you are trying to separate yourselves from the animal kingdom."
"There was a presupposition in what you just said."
Charlie took a step forward. "You take it for granted that only humans are entitled to be given power. By what right do you assume that other species are only fit to somersault in iron cages or be dismembered on a chopping board?"
Akane Shinjo snapped out of her daze. "I didn't say why, I was just surprised..."
"Behind that surprise lies prejudice," Charlie interrupted her. "You never imagined other species could possess intelligence surpassing that of humans, did you?"
Akane Shinjo pushed up her glasses and looked at the gorilla.
She keenly sensed the intense, almost unbearable malice towards humanity in Charlie's words.
So he decisively began to question them.
"Did you kill the man who died in that alley?"
Charlie nodded without hesitation.
"I did it."
Akane Shinjo asked, "Why did you kill him?"
Charlie said expressionlessly:
"What's so surprising about this?"
"It's like you humans going to the slaughterhouse to kill pigs and sheep. What's wrong with me killing and eating you two-legged pieces of meat?"
Upon hearing such inhuman and outrageous remarks, Shinjo Akane felt that the other person was probably suffering from some serious mental illness.
Why do you harbor such deep hatred for humans? Who bullied you?
Charlie gave a cold laugh.
"Hatred? This is called equality."
It stared at Akane Shinjo and immediately launched into a story.
"You humans, relying on your so-called civilization, recklessly cut down forests, pollute the oceans, and keep tens of thousands of animals in cages to torture, slaughter, and eat them! How many lives have you taken to satisfy your appetites, for those laughable furs and luxury goods?"
Charlie took another step forward.
"Why do you humans hate animals? From beginning to end, it was you humans who started the killing! What I am doing now is just giving them a taste of their own medicine."
Faced with such a grand and extreme ethical dilemma concerning species, Akane Shinjo did not refute those grand principles.
She tilted her head and stared at Charlie, pondering intently for a moment.
Then, an incredibly down-to-earth answer was given.
"I don't understand any of this nonsense you're saying."
Akane Shinjo took a bite of the scallion pancake and pointed to the pork tenderloin inside.
"All I know is that if humans don't eat meat to get nutrition, they will get sick and die."
"Not eating meat leads to a lack of protein, which weakens the immune system and causes muscles to atrophy. This is a physiological need; how can it be considered hatred?"
Charlie clearly hadn't expected that his carefully constructed theory would receive such a straightforward, even somewhat idiotic, physiological response.
It paused for a second, then the murderous intent in its eyes was no longer concealed.
"Since you believe that you must eat other animals to survive, then as a matter of reciprocity, let me have a good taste of human flesh today!"
The white mist on the river surface suddenly surged up, and the temperature dropped by more than ten degrees in a few seconds.
Akane Shinjo's breath turned into long white streaks, and a thin layer of frost quickly formed on the metal surface of the riverbank railing.
Asagiri Aya's telepathic message exploded once again in Shinjo Akane's mind.
"Akane-chan, run! It's charging up!"
Charlie slowly raised his right hand, his five fingers spread wide. Cold air emanated from his palm, as if something was being awakened from deep within him.
Rechubas.
The freezing ability of the cosmic sea monster.
Akane Shinjo didn't run away.
Instead, she took two steps back, raising her voice as she created distance.
"Asagiri! It's ready!"
The air above the riverbank suddenly distorted.
Chapter 239 Sophistry
Before the distorted air above the riverbank could recover, Charlie moved.
His movements were so fast that they exceeded the limits of human vision.
The gray afterimage shot towards us almost skimming the ground, so fast that even the streetlights couldn't catch up.
Then, a thick, hairy arm was raised high, its five fingers bent into hooks, and its sharp claws aimed directly at Akane Shinjo's face.
Akane Shinjo stood still, without even making a backward movement.
The strong wind, carrying the stench of rotting sewage and the smell of blood, had already reached her glasses.
"boom!"
Just as the hand, radiating deadly cold, was about to touch Shinjo Akane's nose, a petite figure appeared out of nowhere, blocking Shinjo Akane and Charlie's path.
Asagiri Aya maintained her Zetton form and steadily caught Charlie's powerful claw with one hand.
Charlie felt as if its paw had struck a solid tungsten steel plate, the enormous recoil making its entire arm go numb.
He hadn't even seen how the girl appeared.
But the shock only lasted for half a second.
When his first attack failed, Charlie immediately changed tactics. Taking advantage of the extremely close distance between their palms, he firmly gripped Asagiri Aya's wrist and then activated the power of the Reijubas card within his body.
A bone-chilling cold, at absolute zero, surged from its palm toward Chao Wucai's blocking arm.
Asagiri Aya frowned, noticing the unusual drop in temperature, and immediately loosened her grip, shaking off the other person.
But this eerie chill was like a living venomous snake, biting her arm tightly and refusing to let go.
The moisture in the air instantly condensed under the extreme cold, and white frost spread up her forearm at a visible speed, spreading throughout her body.
Charlie seized the opportunity to leap back several meters, landing on all fours in the thick fog. As he watched the ice layer expand, a smug, cold smile spread across his face.
"It's no use. Once this cold air invades your meridians, your blood will soon turn into ice crystals."
"Now, you are a corpse beyond saving."
Asagiri Aya looked down at her left arm, which was almost frozen to her shoulder, but her expression did not show the fear that Charlie had expected.
"And then?" She looked up, her voice coming through Jaden's signature synthesized electronic voice, devoid of any emotional fluctuation.
Charlie clearly hadn't expected the other person to remain so calm even on the verge of death. He snorted and began to describe what was about to happen.
"Then, your body will turn into a lifeless ice sculpture, and you will die completely without feeling any pain."
"But don't worry, your corpse will not be wasted. I will treat you and your friends as a feast tonight, savoring every bite."
Seeing the other person's perverted appearance, so familiar with the process, and even savoring the taste of their own saliva, Asagi Aya suppressed the churning in her stomach and asked the question that had been on her mind.
"Do you often engage in this kind of cannibalistic behavior?"
"of course."
Charlie readily admitted it, and even began to comment on it with great seriousness.
"But to be honest, all parts of you humans taste terrible. Especially the liver and fat, which have a lingering sour taste, and even the internal organs have a strange taste from chemical additives."
It wrinkled its nose. "I've thought about why that is. And then I came to a conclusion."
"What conclusion?"
"Because your race has committed too many sins, making the earth a mess, even your own bodies have been polluted and corrupted. Eating you is just cleaning up the garbage."
These remarks, which made cannibalism sound so noble and even carried a morally superior tone, completely ignited the anger in Aya Asagiri's heart.
"You're judging people like food..." Asagiri Aya clenched her left fist, which wasn't frozen.
Charlie found it ridiculous to see Aya Asagiri angry because her fellow humans were being treated as food.
"What? You can't even handle this?"
"You are angry because your fellow human beings are treated as food, but when you humans sit in a restaurant and use knives and forks to cut into chunks of meat from animals that have been raised and slaughtered, why don't you feel any sense of madness?"
"Don't those beef, mutton, pork, and chickens that you serve on your tables have the right to anger and revenge? I'm just doing what you've always been doing, so what right do you have to criticize me?"
This kind of moral blackmail through a fallacy of distorting the truth, if it had happened a few days ago, might have caused the timid Asagiri Aya to fall into self-doubt.
But now, Aya Asagiri's thought process in her Zetton Girl form has long been forcibly straightened out.
She wasn't swayed by this grand narrative; instead, she stated frankly.
“When I see stray cats and dogs on the street, I feel sorry for them and I will feed them.”
“But I am very clear that all my sympathy and compassion are based on the fact that I am a ‘human being’.”
